Welcome to Wowhead's Phase 1 Best in Slot Gear list for Demonology Warlock DPS in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Gear in this guide is primarily obtained from Naxxramas, Obsidian Sanctum, and Eye of Eternity. This guide will list the recommended gear for your class and role, containing gear sourced from raids, dungeons, PvP, professions, BoE World drops, and reputations.
Best In Slot Gear for Demonology Warlock DPS in Phase 1
When gearing, there is a multitude of different things to consider; different talent specializations, your currently equipped gear, and your raid composition all play a key part. Perhaps the biggest deciding factor of them all is Hit rating - having too much or too little Hit rating from either talents, gems, or buffs will result in you swapping in different pieces of gear or gems to reach the relevant Hit cap. You can learn more about stat caps and priorities by visiting the Warlock Stat Priority Guide, but here are some important things to note:
Hit cap is determined by the level of the target, with level 83 raid bosses requiring +17% chance to Hit, whilst level 70 trash mobs require only +4%.
You should typically gear for bosses, but it may be worthwhile to have a specialized setup for clearing trash.
For Alliance players, any a Draenei grant 1% Hit to their party through

We also gain other stats based on our raid composition and whilst they have a minor impact on the relative value of our stats, they do not have a maximum amount where they are beneficial like hit rating. This makes it that those things are less likely to show up or cause us to gear differently.

Demonology Warlocks are in a unique position when considering gearing. Not only do we want to optimize the amount of damage that we personally deal, but also that of our fellow raid members. This is due to the fact that

provides spell power to the rest of the raid based on our own amount. We want to provide an as big as possible

whilst sacrificing the least amount of personal DPS.
How valuable an item is from the raid point of view depends on two main variables, the number of casters in the raid and how much they gain in terms of DPS per point of spell power. This means it will be highly dependent on your raid composition, the recommendations in this guide are based on conservative estimates and considering the cost compared to your personal DPS. If you run a caster-heavy composition or the opposite the order of items in this guide might not hold up.
Gems
For gemming, you will want to use these slots to balance out your Hit and reach your meta gem requirement. Most often it is not worthwhile to get the gem bonus unless it is a spell damage bonus or spell hit bonus. For more in-depth info on gems, see the Gem Guide.
The gems displayed in the Socket Slots of the items are based on whether or not it is worth getting the Socket Bonus. (Ignoring the requirements for

, but this is accounted for in the Gear Embed). For your Meta requirement, you will want to use an item with blue socket slots that give a good bonus (high spell power, hit, or haste).

I have to say, I'm very disappointed that this guide was written from the standpoint of a support class. I fully understand there are things in there that say "best personal", but there are 4 locks in my raid right now and 3 of them are demo (including me). I am not the support lock so this is more or less a waste for me.
