WOOT! First post! Yay me!

This bag drops in Heroic Oculus, from the chest after killing Ley-Guardian Eregos. This is lootable by the whole party. The contents are usually 2 Emblems of Triumph and a rare quality gem. As of Feb 4, 2010, I was fortunate enough to loot the Reins of the Blue Drake from this bag as well.

More to follow on specific drop rates and such.

This only drops when you do the instance as the result of putting yourself in the queue for a random heroic: it will not drop if you choose to do the Oculus.

Probably changed to this from the Sack of Blue Gems to discourage people killing world dragons in hopes of getting the blue drake. Discouraging using old content is strange...

Be sure to loot this before leaving the instance. I teleported out right after rolling for group-loot. After reading the chat log I tried to go back, but the instance had reset.

Apparently you don't get it if you weren't on the drake when the boss was killed (e.g. if the group pulled it when you were not mounted).

I've read a comment that said if you run Oculus without the random dungeon finder only one person gets the bag. Is this true?

This thing is the reason I love the Oculus. This thing brings the total badges from Oculus to 8 (4 bosses + 2 from random + 2 from the cache), considering the average run is about 20 minutes that makes it a badge every 2.5 minutes, which better than just about everything except Azjol-Nerub.

You will only personally get this item if you got into the dungeon through the random dungeon finder. You also need to manually loot the chest, it will not go straight to your bag when loot pops up.

On a side note, the drake seems to have a 100% drop rate on emblem-farming alts, and a 1% chance on your main that has 96/100 mounts -.-

wow i just got this i rushed over to the chest before my group members, have no idear if this affects getting it i looted it and omg there was a lovely drake in there! he is very pretty and i had no idear such an amazing mount could drop from here, can anyone confirm the drop rate! :D btw i did this in a random dungeon, under the 20 min timer :)) also got a jem scarlet ruby i think.

Lol, first time on my main, I got the reins of the blue drake. I am a lucky bastard.
I was hoping it was a 310% mount, but then I realized it probably wasn't, due to being a drop from a heroic.

In my opinion, this wasn't a really smart move by Blizzard. On one hand, people are willing to stay for The Oculus, on the other hand you have people queueing with the dungeon finder all day and leaving every heroic they enter except for The Oculus since they are after the mount. It would be way better if you could get the bag(and the drake) by specifically queueing aswell.

Open a ticket.

I once died to some incidental whelp aggro after downing the boss. By the time I had run back the group had disbanded, but I opened a ticket and within a few hours I had the Cache in my mailbox. No mount, though.

I was worried about Oculus from all the negative comments and ppl getting lost on their drakes. But now, usually someone in the group knows where to go and if they do it's over in less then 20min.
I say it's well worth doing for the extra badges and possible mount.
Although drop rate for the blue drake doesn't seem all that high as some people suggest.

I have been attempting to get a Blue Drake without success now for many months. With little else to farm or work on, I've turned my eye to getting this now, before Cataclysm makes it impossible to run Heroic Oculus.

So far I have seen two interesting methods for "farming" this mount, which I will explain further and request input on.

Method one: group-assisted specific dungeon queuing.

Pros:

Almost guaranteed one Oculus run per day

Cons:

Requires a team of 2-3 people, or access to multiple accounts and group roles (healer and tank vital)

How it works:
One of the features of the random LFG system, is the ability for players in the random queue, to be placed into groups who are queuing for a specific dungeon. Thus, the aim here is to have two parties working together. Party one queues specifically for heroic Oculus (none of the players in this party will receive the "Cache of the Ley-Guardian" bag). Party two queues for a random dungeon, gets put into party one's group (the members of party two WILL receive their bags, because they found the dungeon as a random.

Now the problem here is that it can be difficult (nigh impossible) to tell if you've joined up with the right party. The best solution to this problem is to have party one contain a healer, and party two contain a tank (the two limiting factors for quick queues). You could swap those positions too (having the tank in group 1 and the heals in group 2) but since tanks are usually the biggest limiting factor, they'd work best in group two. This way, it can be easy to tell exactly when queues pop and which roles are being filled.

If you are a tank or a healer, this can be an ideal solution to farming, since you really only need to find a healer/tank friend to make a go of it. If you're a DPS though, this means you need to find both a tank AND healer, who are willing to fiddle around getting into what many view as the most annoying 5-man instance at level 80.

This method isn't 100% guaranteed (especially at peak times) but it's as close as you can get right now.

Method two: dungeon lockout extensions

Pros:

Requires no outside assistance
You don't actually have to do anything extra if you're already farming heroics.

Cons:

Not actually proven to work (kind of a big one...)

How it works:
Here are some blue posts on how the random LFG works, and how it favours certain dungeons under certain circumstances:

As mentioned above though, the heroic dungeons you have run the most that day will be the least likely to be randomly selected for your continued play by the dungeon finder system."

The facts as stated above, are that you are less likely to run a dungeon via random queue, if you ran it "recently". Some people have made the assumption that being saved to a dungeon decreases the likelihood of running it again. However, people have also argued that blizzard may in fact use another system to track dungeons you've run independent of your lockouts.

The problem is, without a massive amount of statistical data, it's very hard to prove one way or another. The good news is, if you are farming for a Blue Drake, it doesn't much matter. Simple solution: each day when you start running heroics in search of Oculus, simply extend all other heroic instance lockouts. It "might" increase you chances of getting Oculus. No amount of anecdotal evidence will really prove this, but it can't hurt to try.

I hope some of the above information helps other potential Blue Drake farmers get their mount before Cata. If you have luck anything like mine, you need all the help you can get.

Has the drop on this bag continued to only drop for random queueing since you can now reenter heroics that you are locked out of by using the random dungeon tool making it near impossible to have any faith at all of even ending up in the occulus! Any ideas on how to farm the drake now?

it still drops the blue drake.. Yesterday i was in there.. and it dropped 2 drakes at one run for 2 of the party members! Ofc i wasnt one of the luckers :(

I just received the Reins of the Blue Drake out of a cache that a GM restored to me after a run last night during which the group disbanded before I could get back to the Cache of Eregos in time to loot.

So, just to reiterate, if you were gipped out of the bag DO NOT hesitate to petition a GM. The sooner you do it the better. My case was sorted out in a few hours, and I finally got the cool Blue Drake. Best of luck to anyone who's yet to get it. Cata launches tomorrow, so who knows for certain when (or if) it'll ultimately be moved back to 10-man Malygos's loot table as Blizz stated it would be.

you Can get this mount from the "Cache of the Ley Dragon" that you get from blizzard , if you get screwed by people leaving before you looted the chest. I did.

When you hit level 83, no more Random Heroic WotLK runs as the option removes itself from your LFG tool. Get the Azure Drake before that, or you won't be getting him at all. Such as myself. *Sniff*

They changed it, once you hit 81 you cant que for random WotLK hc anymore (if you are in a que before hitting 81 you finish that que and enter - tested it myselfe)
which makes it rather annying to get 藍龍韁繩 from 地脈守護者寶箱.
However it is contained i 奇特神秘背袋 at a 0.3% droprate a reward from 物資短缺獎勵, you get it for queing solo at 85 (and finish the dungeon) if theres short supply of you class.
Defacto meaning you have to roll a tank or healer as Ive never seen dps being in short supply.
After getting the satchel all you do is to mail it to the char who needs the drake, dont loot it as mount is bop

Update: for MoP
Can now que until lvl 83 for WotLK hc
will however have to reque whenever you level up, so cant que as 83 and finish que at 84

As a LVL80 EXP turned off, owning Cata expansion, you CANNOT QUEUE for Lich King Heroic. You can only queue to Cataclysm Dungeons or Specific Lich King dungeons.

"As far as I know, the option to queue for random, non-heroic LK instances is not available to any level 80 character that has the Cataclysm expansion applied to their account. It may not even be available to non-Cata players (I'm not sure if the LFD system differentiates between the two).

You can always queue for individual instances; you just won't get any bonus rewards for it.

Ultimately, the game is meant to be forward-progressing, so Blizzard designs the mechanics and level restrictions with that in mind."

At lvl 90 you are unable to que for northrend dungeons so is it possible to get a group of two or three to go in and try to get it to drop?

I got the Drake out of this years ago, and didn't even know that the bag dropped a mount... Friend had to point it out to me, in which she was completely ecstatic about it.

The Cache of the Ley-Guardian may not be available to solo players. After over 30 attempts to get the Cache, it never appeared, thats certainly not a 59% drop rate.

I posted a question about this on the Blizz forums and was told that the Cache was only available to random groups assigned a random dungeon.

So yes the dungeon is solo-able. But no cache drop (with a Blue Drake possible).

Blue Drake and Azure Drake are both 5% drop chances when killing Malygos in the Nexus Eye of Eternity just above the entrance to the Oculus (but that is a weekly reset).

All this "queue" business and I walked in, finished the dungeon and the bag dropped. No mount mind you, but you don't need to queue.
