Is this going to be an easy to get alternative for Noble's Monocle used by bank alts? Seein how it's just crafted i don't think the rare blue color make it worth replacing your white quality item since the latter is much harder to get, and if prices are right Noble's Monocle has even higher vendor value.

At first I thought that these monocles would be a gold mine, but the mats to make them on the AH cost more than the going AH price of the monocles them selves.

Am I missing something, or is this strictly a vanity item with no practicle use? And if so, what is the point of a vanity item few players will ever zoom in close enough to see?

I heard a rumor that using one of these allows you to cut "perfect" gems. This would make it useful. Can anyone confirm this?

The monocle is NOT in color. Like the picture shows, it is strictly glass looking and is a !@#$%ing look for my banker! Black tuxedo jacket and pants, dress shoes, and white tux shirt. Shows class all the way, and his name is Farthing.

All the three versions of monocles have no visual differencies in color, at least as I can see it. So mats for Emerald one should generally worth less than others.

Both the pattern and the item have now changed to the Amber Monocle (and any existing Emerald Monocles are now Amber)

Mats are now 3 Amberjewels instead of Dream Emeralds.

It now also has an amber glow colour instead of being plain.

There are four (Ultra) rare recipes in Cataclysm that teaches Jewelcrafters how to make awesome headgear. They are highly sought for vanity reasons and are very likely to fetch a nice price in the Auction House:

I compiled several other information that I could gather from all of the comments in the itens and recipes' pages:

They can't be transmogged as of Patch 7.0.3.

They are a rare World Drop from Cata and MoP (and can drop from almost any creature).
They can only drop for Jewelcrafters ***
The Drop Rate is ~0,01% and is a bit higher on Cata creatures.

- This pattern is a worlddrop and can drop from every mob in Cata and MoP.

All those itens are throwbacks to the old 紅寶石遮陽鏡.

It used to cost some thousands gold when it was added in TBC. Its price got reduced to coppers shortly before it was removed, some time in Wotlk.

While they can't be transmogged, there are no level restrictions nor any status gains.

They can - and most likely will only - be used to pimp your AH lvl1 alts with the coolest gear.
