Elemental shamans get 9% hit rating from talents, 3% from totem. That makes it 12% if you have the totem on the ground always. Now then, you need 4% more hit to hit the cap. So yes, you need hit. And theres mp5 on the gloves, which is very important too. I atleast have to chug atleast 2-3 mana potions per a boss fight.

I'd never use these on an ele build. As has been repeatedly said, no crit is bad.

On the other hand, they make nice soloing gloves for my resto shaman. I actually need the +hit & the resto version is worse than Gloves of Centering anyway (although some might disagree due to the 2-piece bonus).

Gotta worry when tier gear is more suited to an off-spec...

Thank you for that enlightening comment. It's possibly the worst thing I've read on WoWhead.

These gloves are, in fact, quite lackluster for an elemental spec'd shaman. It's currently easy to attain 12% hit from talents alone. Shamans need precious little hit on gear to reach the raid boss cap, and positively none to be capped for non-raid and most raid trash content.

In addition, mp/5 is a lackluster stat for Elemental. Crit scales better for mana efficiency. The build is heavily based on a high crit rate to keep spells cheap through clearcasting. These gloves are lacking in several ways; a level 67 blue (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=31280#comments) is arguably better even for raid bosses.

I Believe the value of these gloves (although very close to WotLK) have gone up since the amount of hit% a shaman can gain from talents has gone down.

This makes it a little more appealing but still not what all shamans want.
