one of my favorite classes ever. Enh shanam used to be one of the best hydrids in vanilla , they even could tank ( yes, there was some mail gear especially desighned for enh shaman tanking back then). Now elemental imo is all the rage, the insane burst, the great sp totem buff with the low mana cost, the powerful and hated thunderstorm that makes us kings of the AB and eye of storm, a great pvp spec with the addition of some early enh talents. Generally shamans were always one of the most desired classes for a raid thanks to their totem buffs and bloodlust. Oh and dont forget resto shamans, good at both raid and single healing, rly fun to play healers.
My choice of race is troll, because of their racials additional haste increase and the cool dance XD.

Little trivia: although the screenshots contain pictures of Thrall as a Shaman, in WC 3 he was in fact a Far Seer. This hero class in that game shared several of the Shaman's skills:
summoning wolves

Enhancement single target updated for 4.0:
(When it becomes available, Unleash Elements will be your opener for a boss)
1) 5 stack searing flame Lava Lash (I may edit this in the future, but i see better results when I wait for my stacks to build to 5, unless there are zero stacks in an AoE fight on it)
2) Feral Spirit (2 minute cooldown means more freedom from slows and roots)
3) Stormstrike (if debuff is not on the target already)
4) MW5 Lightning Bolt
5) Unleash Elements
6) Flame Shock when debuff is not on
7) Earth Shock
8) Stormstrike
9) Remember to use your instant cast ghost wolf to connect with your target faster if you are moving!

In 4.3, your set bonuses will make it more beneficial to cast Lightning Bolt. However, your single target priority will not change, as Feral Spirit will give you more Maelstrom procs and you still need to make sure that Stormstrike's debuff is on your target.
Before you summon Feral Spirits, apply Flame Shock to your target, as you likely won't have a free GCD where you aren't casting Lightning Bolt. If Flame Shock falls off during that time, it's okay, but remember to reapply it first thing when your feral spirits fade.

as an Enhancement weapon, like Eye of Purification. It's a bit too fast, as we don't really want to go below the threshold of 2.4 speed. Deathwing's axe will likely be better than this mace, but if it's proven that you can do more damage with it, you'll be casting Lightning Bolt with as low as 2 stacks of Maelstrom Weapon when you have free GCDs. If that happens, I will post both priorities here.

Mental Quickness has been redesigned to no longer let us gain spell power from other "sources." This means that we'll no longer be using spell power weapons, ever. They did buff the amount of spell power it gives from 50% to 55%, but this is to make up for the fact that we'll no longer get spell power from the flat % buff provided by things such as Totemic Wrath.

Notice I did not put Searing Totem on there, that's because you will have free GCDs (even with Unleash Elements) and you can probably refresh it at least every 30 seconds without seeing a DPS loss.
**Do your best NOT to clip Lava Lash if the GCD will still be up for a long time when it becomes available. This goes against how Enhance was before, but it will yield more DPS because of the massive damage it deals at once**

Shamans can cast Bloodlust (or Heroism) to boost the entire group's damage and healing.
This buff is unique and oft sought after for a raid group
.
Just like to say that Bloodlust/Heroism is no longer unique as Mages have their own version of the spell as of Cataclysm.
Time Warp
. The only difference is that shaman's learn Bloodlust at 71 while Mage's don't learn Time Warp until 85.

Playing as a low level Elemental shaman feels like a great leveling spec due to its "death of a thousand cuts" tactics. Primal Strike, Searing Totem, Flametongue Weapon, and Lightning Shield do mediocre damage on their own, but when you combine these, you'll be wondering where the mob went, it went down so fast. Combine with your auto-attack and Earth Shock for tougher mobs or groups.

So, as you all know, I play a Shaman. I'm currently the best geared Shaman in the world and I have multiple world DPS records on WowMeterOnline. So I go into this Battleground because I feel like gracing my battlegroup with my presence, right? Everyone is cheering as I enter. They don't bother putting down a mage table or healthstone because they know that they're not going to need it--I, the Darkness, has come.
So I cast Lightning Shield on myself, because that's what Shamans do. They call down MOTES OF ELECTRICITY FROM THE HEAVENS and they SURROUND THEMSELVES with DEADLY AMOUNTS OF LIGHTNING! All of my teammates are instantly electrocuted to death, but me? I merely bathe in the energy; it is my plaything. Even though my teammates are now charred corpses, they continue to cheer, because they know that I can solo this. The gates open. I run in. With Ghost Wolf, my movement speed is increased by
40% PERCENT
Horde sees me run by but they can't do anything about it because I'm a ghost and I'm wolfing at
40 PERCENT
a Blood Elf Paladin with Crusader Aura on bubbles and flees in terror when he sees me traveling at
40 PERCENT
They can hear the howl of my ghost wolf. They are all cowering--no, literally, they type the /cower emote and just stand there--as I cap the Stables. Just then, I see something through my Sentry Totem. It's the WoW General Forums! --People are complaining about how overpowered I am! They're saying that Shamans need to be nerfed. I smirk.
That's when I decide to take out my HAND OF RAGNAROS.

Dragonwrath can proc off Elemental Overload
It is possible to get two procs out of a single cast (approx one in twenty casts)
Each proc has a separate chance to crit (If flame shock is up, three Lavaburst crits do insane damage)
Obtaining three procs out of a cast is presumed impossible
Dragonwrath adds approximately 10k dps on the Baeleroc heroic fight

To test if the Staff can duplicate an Overload, I tried alternating Lava Burst and Chain Lightning on a test dummy for 15 minutes or so. (The log can be found
here on World of Logs
). Since
Elemental Overload
results in a damage reduction on a spell, it is possible to spot where a proc originated from. To keep this simple I have only looked at the Lava Burst damage, while using the Chain Lightning to distinguish the separate casts. For example:

The last three are pretty similar, and as far as I can tell, they all have a separate crit chance. Theoretically it could be possible to obtain a quadruple lava burst, but I can't say I have noticed any. It may well be impossible because it means some lucky burst results in one shotting a player. A bit of further testing reveals that flame shock will result in all three of these critting. Some pretty nasty burst there, particularly if its an instant cast!

Having a priest, druid and shaman healer, I would like to say that resto shaman healing seems to me much easier (or convenient) than druid or priest healing. Probably because some of shaman healing spells are "smart" heals.
Chain Heal
- Jumps to targets that need healing prioritizing on the percentage (I think) of health missing.
Earth Shield
- Which trigger upon receiving damage. (Smart HoT you may and must say)
Ancestral Awakening
- Not only increases your critical healing bonus, but also does not let it to be wasted. Its rather likely that sometimes your critical heals will overheal, but this talent will give that portion to someone who needs it.
Grounding Totem
- Totem that I will always consider part of resto shaman healing rotation in both PVP and PVE is also incredible tool.
Wind Shear
- Nice Interrupt with no GCD, which is important
These 5 spells (talents) make me enjoy healing in raids and heroics.
Can not really compare it to paly healing (don't have paly), but I definitely prefer resto shaman more than druid and priest (although disc spec is my second favorite, and holy is least favorite). This my subjective and biased opinion.

Here is my
opinion
on Restoration... (If you are new to the class/considering making a shaman for healing)
If you like to play a supporting class. I would recommend resto shaman without hesitation. Learning this healing class is a breeze. The mechanics have been simplified, attributes are very homogenized, and rotation priority is easy to figure out.
Though shaman are nowhere near the healers we once were(comparing to previous expansions) You can still go a looooong way if you spend the time and effort learning to play this class properly
As far as PVP goes. like any other healing class, we have our advantages and disadvantages. Its up to you to decide if we are "good" or not :-P
My credentials:
Resto shaman was my pve main throughout WoTLK
After I leveled it to 85 when cata released, my shaman sat collecting dust for about a year(till 4.3 patch)
I only pvp now

ONE thing I hope they do for shamans is give us more frost damage dealing spells, cause the only two I know of are FROST SHOCK and I suppose the proc from Frostbrand weapon. I find it kinda funny that for a Class who has control over the four elements can only use two damage dealing frost spells. But I guess that's where their proficiency of using the "cleansing power of water" to heal, for their mastery over the element of water.

Shaman talent overview(WoD included)
Tier 1 Talents :
Nature's Guardian - probably the best choice for levelling 1-100 as you might sometimes pull too many mobs or are unaware that you are about to die.
Stone Bulwark Totem - increased by your spell power, so it is very good in PvP in situations where you need a heal or in PvE if you're well geared and need to soak up damage. Very good for elemental, also not a bad choice for enhancement with high attack power, since 65% of your ap is turned into sp
Astral Shift - arguably the worst choice, although pretty good for fights like Malkorok when you need to stack and soak up the damage.
Tier 2 Talents :
Frozen Power - only use this in PvP, completely useless in PvE.
Earthgrab Totem - useful in PvE and PvP, a bit more on the PvP side of things since you don't really need to run from mobs in PvE.
Windwalk Totem - best choice for PvP, especially in arenas where a pesky frost mage or druid roots you ^.^ Not bad for PvE, but still, only in a few situations you will use this.
Tier 3 Talents :
Call of the Elements - pretty good talent for levelling and PvE when your raid desperately needs that healing from your Healing totems.
Totemic Persistence - not really useful unless you lack healers in a raid and you need double healing totems up.
Totemic Projection - arguably the best talent for PvP. You can move your Capacitor totem to stun others, not so useful In PvE because you're usually confined in a space and you don't move all that much.
Tier 4 Talents :
Elemental Mastery - very good for both PvE and PvP burst.
Ancestral Swiftness - really good choice for enhancement shamans, also nice if you need an instant cast heal in any specc.
Echo of the Elements - in WoD, it will make some of your abilities not incur a cooldown when used. Currently, it's only really good for PvP for all speccs.
Tier 5 Talents :
Rushing Streams - good for 2s and dungeons.
Ancestral Guidance - good for burst part of boss encounter when group takes heavy damage.
Conductivity - arguably the best for enhancement, resto and elemental shamans in PvE. It's passive, just cast Healing Rain once and through damage or healing you will basically do passive healing to the raid.
Tier 6 Talents :
Unleashed Fury - average talent for PvP and PvE.
Primal Elementalist - BEST choice for PvE. Do not use in PvP unless you're doing it for fun. It will boost your burst and when your CDs are over it will boost your sustained damage.
Elemental Blast - BEST choice for PvP. Do not use in PvE since this is for burst only and your sustained damage and DPS will decrease greatly.
WoD Tier 7 Talents :
Shocking Lava - seems to be best with elemental's fulmination.
Storm Elemental Totem - seems to be best for raid encounters with lots of trash and when your raid stacks.
Spew Lava - use this only if your totems are glyphed to have more health else this will be a waste.

I have tried Enhancement and Elemental Shamans before and I did not like them all that much, but recently I decided to try a second healing class out (My Main is a Discipline Priest) and after much thought I have decided to go with a Resto Shaman. Not sure if I will like the play of one but I am going to try it out because I have done much research into the Resto Shaman and heard a lot of good things about the play style that interest me.
