There is a chance to discover "Optional Reagent" recipes during an 工程學 "Tinker Malfunction". The 10-minute on-use cooldown for these tinkers will reset after killing a raid boss. A good practice for triggering these discoveries is to clear older raid content for more malfunction chances. The following are all of the recipes that can be discovered, including their respective quailty level.

There's not a lot of info about this yet, so here's what I've gathered so far:

Success is NOT guaranteed.

There's a reddit thread talking about how this brez tinker is only a CHANCE, and is no longer the guaranteed eng brez from previous expansions.

Of particular note is Removebyfriction's post:

I'm an engineer and yesterday this tinker failed 5 times in a row during one single boss fight - I got polymorphed by it, knocked back a few times, and once it almost killed me. It's nice when it works, but sadly it doesn't work more often than it does.

All this said, a chance is still better than NO brez if your comp doesn't have one.

*edit: For comparison, here's my own success rate so far: 5 out of 5 successful brezzes. This was as an engineer using 嚴重失敗預防裝置 (as I had specialized in something far from Inventions), using silver quality 技工裝置：弧光活力修正器, and no other tinkers anywhere.

How to raise your brez success rate (or at least die less):

If you're an engineer:

Option A:
1. Have both the engineering-crafted helm and bracers. (Helm requires engineering to wear.) Socket 技工裝置：接地電路 in one, and 技工裝置：弧光活力修正器 in the other. 技工裝置：接地電路 seems to guarantee success before it goes on CD (duration currently unknown), so that's your best chance at ONE guaranteed brez in a fight. If suddenly someone dies again, though, refer to the next option:

Option B:
1. Spec into the engineering specialty Mechanical Mind > Inventions - specialization. This gives you the passive "Your tinkers can no longer drastically malfunction", making it no longer necessary to have 嚴重失敗預防裝置.
2. You can then have 精確校準的安全開關 built in when making your bracers.
3. Use the highest quality 技工裝置：弧光活力修正器 you can afford, because it probably has different failure rates per quality (unproven--more info needed) as the hp rez amount stays the same.

If you're NOT an engineer:
I'd suggest using 嚴重失敗預防裝置 when making the bracers. At least it won't kill you when it backfires.

How to use this without engineering?

Check out the following bracers crafted by engineering, which do NOT require engineering to wear:

They start at 384 and go up to 418, just like the other spark of ingenuity crafted gear. Just find an engineer who specializes in these and send them a crafting order.

I was really interested in how well tinkers worked when you maxed out your 4 tinker anti-failure nodes (35/40 Mechanical Mind spec node, Unlocking Inventions subspec, 35/40 Inventions subspec node and Generalist 35/40 subspec node) as well as crafting my equipment with Calibrated Safety Switches (Reduced likeliness of tinker failing by 15%) and here are my findings so far.

With 3/4 of anti-fail nodes (missing the Generalist node) and Calibrated Safety Switches, my Rank 3 (2s cast) Vital Correctors worked 6 out of 7 times. The one fail, I was poly'd for 4 seconds.

I now have the last ant-fail node and I will post and update my findings as I continue to use the vital correctors in content.

UPDATE: I now have 2 engineers, one has ALL of the anti-fail nodes and 1 is missing the last one in Optimized Efficiency. Here are my stats so far:

Bres: 7/8 w/o the last Opt Eff. node

Bres: 4/4 w/ all tinker nodes

Breath: 18/21 w/ all nodes unlocked

Breath: 7/9 w/o the last Opt Eff. node
