Gearing in Early Warlords
This guide provides an overview of how to gear up in Warlords of Draenor! While some ways take longer or require more effort than others, we’ve described all the ways you could reasonably get gear in the first month or so.
We’ve also covered how you can modify/enhance your stats (gems, enchants, consumables) and a table sorting gear by slot and item level.

Warlords Questing (505-610)
As you quest and level up in Warlords of Draenor, you will inevitably get rid of your Siege of Orgrimmar gear. Here are some factors to keep in mind besides the item level:
Trinkets from Siege of Orgrimmar have reduced effectiveness at level 91 and higher, such as

All specs have an “attunement” spell that boosts a specific secondary stat by 5%. Several specs have stat boosts for new stats that are not plentiful on Siege of Orgrimmar gear, such as Holy Priests with
. Consider picking up quest items with this stat.
While quest gear does not come with sockets or set bonuses, it has a small chance to be 10 or 20 item levels higher than the quest log displays.

Proving Grounds (610)
Completing Proving Grounds Bronze rewards an ilvl 610 weapon.
Just complete

The mobs scale up to your gear as long as you have normal dungeon gear or better. For maximum effectiveness, you want gear at ilvl 615 or better, but slightly below will be acceptable for silver.
Tier set bonuses are not active, and neither are extra gem sockets or tertiary stats.
Stats from flasks, enchants, and food are not reduced. You get full amounts from these in Proving Grounds.

Warlords Dungeons
There are three types of Warlords dungeons--Normal, Heroic, and Challenge Mode. You can run these dungeons the week of launch.
Dungeon loot rules have changed in Warlords of Draenor.
Previously, each boss had a set of uniquely-named loot. Now, multiple bosses can drop loot of the same name, but different bosses are assigned unique item level versions of the items. For example,

Another change is that loot tables for each boss appear much larger than before. Instead of a boss dropping a belt, there is a chance that a boss will drop one of five belts for a particular armor type. These belts vary in the types of secondary stat combos they have--the combos are set in advance and are
not
random.
Finally, Normal-mode dungeon gear has the chance to have a tertiary stat, and Heroic-mode dungeon gear has the chance to have a tertiary stat, Extra Socket, and/or be Warforged for a +6 item level boost.

To queue for a heroic dungeon with friends, you must be level 100 and have ilvl 610 gear.
To solo queue for a heroic dungeon, you must complete Proving Grounds Silver and be level 100. Check out our

Challenge (640)
In Warlords of Draenor, players are rewarded for simply completing a Challenge Mode--attaining bronze, silver, or gold only rewards vanity perks.

PvP Gear
PvP gear is not as strong as it used to be for PvE.
PvP gear does not have a chance to be Warforged, come with an extra socket, or tertiary stats.
PvP gear is more powerful in PvP combat. Honor gear goes from 620 > 675 and Conquest gear goes from 660 > 690.
The PvP season will start on December 2nd, so you shouldn’t plan on grabbing epic Conquest items as “easy” gear boosts at the start of Warlords.
Several weeks into Warlords, Conquest gear may be decent gear in general, as it is ilvl 660 while Normal Highmaul loot is ilvl 655.

Garrison: Crafting without Professions (630-640)
This next section takes some effort at your
Garrison
, so it may not be for everyone!
Some Garrison buildings let you craft epic gear without having a particular profession, but it will take time to level up your buildings, gather the Garrison Resources for constructing them, as well as collect the materials needed for the crafted gear.
All of the following Level 2 buildings require you to be 96 or to finish Talador to purchase their blueprint.
All of the following level 3 buildings require you to be 100 and complete

To get the materials needed for these items, you will have to queue up Work Orders which take 4 hours to complete. If you have a profession, you can also get between 4-10 materials from a daily transmute cooldown depending on your skill level.

Players with a crafting profession can make all the crafted gear listed above as well as some consumables that can permanently boost the item level of a crafted item. Armor goes 640 > 655 > 670 and weapons go 630 > 645 > 660.

However, it will take you 10 days to buy both recipes needed for the item level boosts--you can only create one “Secret” item per day and it takes 5 Secrets for each recipe. This is on top of spending “Secrets” on recipes for actual gear.
There are additional timesinks when upgrading your epic gear.

The items take dozens of materials gained from Work Orders and daily transmutes--you will not be turning these upgrade items out on a daily basis.
With all the work involved, you should think about upgrading items that do not have easily-replaceable counterparts--these take a while to craft or will be pricey if you try to buy them on the AH.

Invasions (645)

Missions (615-655+)
This next section takes some effort at your Garrison, so it may not be for everyone!
Another key element of your Garrison is collecting
followers
and assigning them to
missions
. When your followers hit 100 by gaining experience in missions, they are given a base item level of 600 and can go on missions that have special gear as rewards.
There are four tiers of missions they can go on which reward high-level gear tokens that turn into an item for your loot spec (similar to the Timeless Isle):
Tier 1, 600
: A few level 100 missions reward ilvl 615 gear.
Tier 2, 615
: Several missions reward ilvl 630 gear as well as tokens for your followers.
Tier 3, 630
: Several missions reward ilvl 645 gear as well as tokens for your followers.
Tier 4, 645
: These missions reward a Highmaul Foundry cache which contains armor from the raid. No weapons are included and the difficulty generally corresponds to the raid tier higher than what you have completed, but you cannot run Highmaul normal once and expect to get a heroic mission cache.
Keep in mind the following things when rushing to complete missions:
It will take some time to level followers up.
You may not have missions in your log that reward gear--they show up infrequently and many item level missions do not reward gear.
If the mission has threats your leveled-up followers don’t counter, there is a high chance you will fail it and not get gear.
You can increase the item level of your followers the following ways:
Completing Work orders at the

for follower tokens.
Opening Salvage at any level

for follower tokens.
Completing missions that have follower tokens as rewards.
You do not increase the item level of your follower by giving them gear to wear, like you would for increasing your own item level.

Legendary Questline Ring (640-680)
Similar to the legendary cape in Mists of Pandaria, there is a legendary ring questline in Warlords of Draenor.
You can get early versions of the ring from the first part of the quest line:

Modifying Your Gear
With Reforging gone, there are less ways to customize your character to get the secondary stats you want. However, there are still ways to do so.
Gems
Heroic Dungeon and Normal/Heroic/Mythic Raid gear has a chance to have a socket.
This socket is prismatic and all the Warlords-quality gems are also prismatic.
There are no socket bonuses or meta gems in Warlords gear.
Warlords gems can be placed in gear ilvl 600 and above.
Warlords gems cover all secondary stats and come in two tiers: +35 and +50.

Enchants
Enchants can be placed on necks, rings, capes, and weapons.
Enchants for necks, rings, and capes cover all secondary stats.
All enchants from Mists of Pandaria and previous expansions cannot be placed on items above ilvl 600.
There are two tiers of enchants for necks, rings and capes. The top tier enchant for capes also add a movement speed bonus.

Rerolling Secondary Stats
All crafted items come with two randomly-selected secondary stats. You can change these stats with special items. Note that these items

work on crafted items--if you loot a BoE in the world, you cannot change its secondary stats.

There are no new elixirs providing primary or secondary stats in Warlords of Draenor.
You can cook food that
covers every secondary stat in Warlords
, either for a +75 or +100 boost. You have the option to cook the +75 stat food using either meat or fish, and the +100 options require you to fuse together a meat and fish dish with some herbs. Learn more about food with our

Gear Options by Slot
Armor
Armor items change primary stats (Agility, Intellect, Strength) when you change specs--so they are pretty versatile. You don’t need to collect different armor pieces for each spec, they will simply adjust. You will only need to collect multiple pieces for the same slot if you’re interested in different secondary stat combos.

Weapons
Weapons have numerous sources in Warlords of Draenor, so we’ve provided links to useful filters that can help you narrow down what you want.
Weapons do not change their primary stats and also do not have Bonus Armor or Spirit.
With these filters, you can look at the “Source” column to see which bosses drop the weapons so you know what dungeons to run or raid bosses to use coins on.

This is a really good guide from what I have read and practiced so far.
In regards of the proving grounds I completed bronze and silver today back to back right after hitting 100 with an ilvl of 599. So as long as you know what you're doing you should be fine. Just like with other quest the weapon that is rewarded for completing bronze can be upgraded. Mine was upgraded to an epic version with an ilvl of 630.

One thing missing, is the mention of the War Mill / Dwarven Bunker. It doesn't just increase the chance at the random upgrades for quest rewards, it also increases the ilvl gain for them. The Proving Grounds weapon for instance becomes a 640 epic, not a 630 epic if you have the War Mill / Dwarven Bunker - for gearing up, that one building is indispensable and should be built before you enter Nagrand.

Just wanted to add that I obtained a 'Butcher's Terrible Tenderizer' ilvl 655 MH Mace with 90int, 136stam, 51 versatility, 1209Spellpower, 66Mastery from the Butcher. I noticed you had a section for what weapons drop off whom, and wanted to add this item to the list.

You should remove the mention of Motlen Core if you want to keep the guide current.
Also, I wanted to test the linking in the gear by slot sections to see if they take you to the right places. I clicked on Kargath and it links to the wrong one (not the Highmaul boss). In fact, it seems that all Highmaul boss links go to the wrong ones.

If you want to speed up your leveling from 91 to 100 exponentially, buy the following in AH (about 15k gold) for your level 91 character:
1 x Warlords Crafted ilvl 630 weapon (2 handed preferred)
1 x Warlords Crafted ilvl 640 Chest armor
1 x Warlords Crafted ilvl 640 Legs armor
Chest and Legs armor have the highest stats of armor pieces.

Thank you for this guide! My character just unlocked heroics, will running them be able to get her ilvl to 635 the required amount for highmaul? Her ilvl is 622 right now.
