I did this on my 39 RET specced Paladin. I believe the quest is a bit buggy. I killed a path to the tower door, then Divine Protection I ran into the tower and up the short steps to the very end. For some reason this reset all the aggroed mobs. Balos will return to the small landing on the stairs. Killed him solo. Returned to top of stairs. For some reason this is a safe zone of sorts. Waiting on DP timer... then ran out.

Hope that helps some of you ^^

I have done this quest in the past without any problems, but it seems with the new patch , there is an issue with repawn rates. I have yet to make it up to the tower with my level 36 hunter. No sooner do my pig and I clear a path and we have to start all over with the respawned mobs.

Okay, I did this as a 36 Enhancement Shammy. I ran past Balos up the steps (stops right behind) him and died. I reincarnated and by some miracle was able to keep myself alive to finish the quest.

Otherwise, i wouldn't be able to reach Balos before repops get me.

Did this on my level 37 hunter. I used Eyes of the Beast on my pet and had him aggro the entire room. I then ran up the steps past the npc and feigned death on the broken steps. I then stood back up and res'd my pet. I was then able to sit there evading all of his attacks until I was at full hp / mana. I then walked down onto the steps and fought him. Easy if you can make it to the broken steps no mobs can hurt you.

As a lvl 37-38 mage I tried this quest many times but always ran into problems with respawns. In the end ran in to the tower & died. Rez'd right at the very top of the stairs in the tower & managed to eat, drink & buff. It kept putting me in & out of combat but Balos couldn't touch me. Once ready, moved close to Balos & easy kill. Don't get too close to him though otherwise you pull 2 other mobs. Ran out/blinked with mana shield on & job done. I guess I could have done this to get onto the top of the stairs! Good luck

評論來自 grawss

Yeah, at 1% health and ready to die, all the mobs went into evade mode. They cannot attack you on the edge of the steps. So run through all the mobs, into the tower, and once you get to the end of the steps just wait for them to reset. Once they do, edge down until Balos attacks. Kill him, then run out. If you get too close to Balos, you'll aggro a mob or two below, so stay near the wall and as near the steps as possible.

Did on my 41 rogue, actually forgot about it, stealthed in, beat Balos into submission, only had one add. He went to get help so I vanished. Easy if you can stealth, watch the add, he will get help.

I tried this quest today on my 37 priest found it very hard to do. At one point i got pissed and just ran in there and found out that if you stand at the top of the stairs just above Balos they can not attack you. I healed up and moved down far enough that he wouldnt evade my spells and had no problem with the other NPCs in the tower. Quest complete.

I tried this as a lvl 36 prot pali 2k/2.5k health/armor (respectively). Stupidly I didn't read EVERY comment just where it was. I pull 3. 3 melee mobs vs 1 prot pali is just ezmode. 3 more mobs aggro some how and one runs for help.

So I pull them to the road LoH to live, then drink/eat up. I head toward the tower pull one guy walking around and another I SWEAR I just killed. Then the fun started they started to respawn as I was fighting it was then about 8-10 on one...needles to say I was a dead pali.

I was about to try the run up and talk but as I'm typing this a son of hakkar looking mob ate my face and now I need ot repair.

I ended up getting killed and then when I went back to body to resurrect, I just stood behind Balos Jacken. Don't have to kill him, just get him below 20 or 25 % and he'll turn green to finish the quest.

評論來自 lcarnegie

agreed I died right by him and then used divine protection, gift of naaru, a pot, and someone killed him and the other 2 gaurds that were on me. It's not worth it at all. You have to be able to able to heal or have a group for this one.

評論來自 88457

No deaths needed, just a bit of stamina. I tried a few times to fight my way in but the mobs respawned far too fast to keep up with them - got about four down before the first came back at me because I was still in his aggro range.

Completed it after reading the above, but without dying. Run in and veer slightly to the left, run up the slope and onto the steps behind Balos, and the mobs start evading. From these wooden steps I was able to step off them and burst Balos down before stepping back on them to make the others to evade again. Once Balos turned friendly I could complete the quest from the steps and accept the next part before running out.

Note for shammies: I managed to use ghostwolf while stood on the wooden steps so ran out in that form, never though to use it on the way in though as I figured it would be 'indoors' anyway.

Have uploaded some screenshots, they should be there once approved.

EDIT

As a druid (shapeshift and prowl) it was easy at lvl40, just attack the target and hope the rest turns friendly before u die.

My well geared hunter (lvl 38) and well trained pet only made till the opening of the tower before we died. Some gifts of naaru and mend pet and potions didn't hold up against the crasiest respawn rate of the game... Not looting the body's doesn't help either, they respawn before u know it.

評論來自 mrdummy

Level 41 shaman made it with more work.
Balos is inside tower with 2 mobs there. Around tower 4-6 mobs. You can perhaps see him up the broken trap inside tower.
Make decide which mob you fight. The timed respawn rate is 2 minutes, also without looting body.
That means don't loot bodies to save every second.
It's better to maximize your mana and stamina. You need it to fight to the tower. Don't fight all another mobs which is not in way, it's just waste of time and high aggro risk thanks to high respawn of 2 minutes.
Use best food for fast health regenation. Or use bandage. Try maximize dps to avoid new aggro, kill fast, they run away at low health.

Once damaged Balos and done quest part, just run away as possible from the tower. The mobs outside are still red.

評論來自 naano

Attempted this on a 38 shadow priest...the respawn rate is about a minute, even without looting the bodies. Very hard to do, especially if you have to drink after every 2-3 fights. After about a half hour of attempting to clear the place to no avail, I brought out my 70 shaman.

NOTE: if you use this method, do NOT bother clearing the entire place with your high level toon if your alt is just sitting on the road, because by the time you run your alt to the tower, things will already be respawning. I made this mistake a few times before realizing it doesn't work.

I ran my priest into the tower near the stairs (but not close enough to aggro Balos) and let her die. Then I ran back to my priest's body without rezzing. I logged onto my shaman and cleared out the inside of the tower (except for Balos) and the 3-4 mobs standing outside of the tower entrance. Then I quickly relogged my shadow priest, rezzed, ate/drank quickly and then started beating the !@#$ out of Balos. Managed to turn in and receive the follow up quest before things started respawning, then ran like hell out of the tower.

Very frustrating quest. But if you complete it you get about 7.8k of exp (3.9k exp each when talking to Balos and then Vimes afterwards).

評論來自 Fumblebuck

Confim the above method
(Run into tower to the top of the wrecked wooden stairs, mobs reset).
Tried it with my lv36 Shaman, worked a treat.
(Didn't bother trying to run out, just Hearthed. :)

Soloed him with ez at lvl 36 with warrior.
Trick is to run in (u don't need to kill anybody), dosen't matter if u die of not.
Pass him and jump to the broken stairs.
Now the trick is to do it the safe way or the quick way.

Safe way:
once u get out of combat (might take a while) start eating and regaining lost hp.
Then when your full recovered, jump down (far from Balos) and kill one or all of the mobs.
if u killed all the mobs eat down there or run up eat and drink, run down and kill the last one.
Yes there spawn time is nuts, but if ur fast enough it will go smooth.
Since u have killed all there, just attack Balos and wait till he turns green.

Quick way:
Regain the lost Hp from when u ran in.
try to jump to Balos (without pulling others) and beat him down till he turns green.

lvl 38 WARLOCK: Impossible to kill the mobs, they run away and come back full health, and all mob at once. Respawn is too fast on this to do it as a Warlock alone.
I read some tips from above and completed quest like this:

I used my VoidWalker to go in ahead of me and pulled EVERYONE to attack him. I ran by un-noticed and when up to the broken wooded steps. (Had to sacrifice my VW, but I was almost untouched.)
Regen/and called forth a fellhunter and we came off the steps. I sent him out to drop Balos & friends melee damage, and I focused on killing Balos. 2 other guys ran up, but I was able to defeat Balos fast enough that I could jump back up on the steps before the other guys finished me off. (lost my fellhunter to the mob) called forth another VW, used it as a decoy and ran out like I did coming in. I still got chased and died on the road.

Experienced as a well-geared (PvP blues) 40 affliction warlock. The bugged element to this is the definition of zones for the mobs on the stone approach to the tower. If you are off of the stone and they are on it, constant evades as I tried to land spells on them, even though I registered as in combat. When I was on the stone, I was able to engage them, but if one of the mobs ran (for example from Fear spell) then it would start evading, also seemed to cause all other engaged mobs to evade at same time. Worst case was I had 3 of them, all nearly dead from DoT's. All evaded, 2 of them instantly re-aggro'd at full health, and me at about 20% mana. Survived though!

General suggestions: use a succubus and ensure that your soulstone is up.

Comment for Altaurel: stick with it - the Shady Rest Inn chain has some excellent XP and rewards.

36.54 are correct for the tower. He is lvl 38 non elite...pretty easy as a 33 hunter. for me i hadnt been to that area before this quest brought me there...watch out for the beasts around...they are 38-39 as you start getting closer to the tower that you need. And the quest works just fine.

評論來自 Thottbot

I had trouble getting past all the deserters to get to him in the tower. So I basically rushed into the tower and ran up the ruined stairs.

All of the mobs who had chased me stopped on the landing below the end of the stairs. They couldn't approach me. I could see Balos but he evaded when I tried to attack.

All of a sudden, all the deserters returned to their positions. Balos, however, came up to the landing and started attacking me. I fought him down to where he turns green and just as I was getting the quest, the other mobs noticed me again. I grabbed the quest and ran and made it out alive.

just did this as a 42 hunter, went from the back of the tower (from the east), started by killing the 2 guys closest to the stairs, then worked my way around after walking up the ramp, never agro'd more than 2 guys so far. when I got into the tower, my pet agro'd the 3 deserters, I healed him and they went down pretty quickly, then there was just Jackos left to defeat, wasn't hard. then I mounted (Yes, still in the tower) and ran out of there to theramore.

Seeeeriously bugged. Avoid at all costs, there's just no-way you can really complete this without vainly trying to find a loophole.

評論來自 Thottbot

The quest is quite simple. You have 2 choices:

1) Run inside the tower and up the stair. You can stop in top of the ruined stairs. All mobs will stop attacking you. There actually is a spot where you are out of combat and you can eat and drink less than 3 feet in front (or behind ) of Balos Jacken.

2) You can die almost inside the tower (preferably inside) and ress up the stairs in the same spot.

After you reached the spot, wait about 30 seconds or so. You just come down the 3 ruined stairs, kill Balos Jacken and one of the deserters that will charge you, and you r done.

評論來自 Allakhazam

I found the easiest way to do this was clear up to the tower {35,54}, but they respawn pretty quickly, so go fast. Once you have the two on either side of the tower entrance cleared, run in and up the stairs and to the top of the last step. When you're on those wooden steps they can't get you. Wait for them to deaggro {Balos will not}, then step down onto the normal stairway and kill Balos. He turns green at 20 or 15%, I forget, and then you can talk to him to finish that step of the quest.

Tried this as a 34 Mage with a 36 Warlock. It is crazy hard post 2.3 patch. The respawn timer is FUBAR. Guys re-appear before I can finish drinking, and we didn't loot anything! Then you get in a room with 5 37-38 MoB's...Maybe we are underlevel, but still. This is way hard for a solo quest. Used to be that the deserters were yellow, now all are red and respawn like crazy.

You can zerg the tower, and die there, then rez on the top step of the tower. It's bugged, and no one will attack you while you are there. Eat, drink, buff, and step down and kill Balos as fast as possible, try not to aggro the guys on the bottom floor, and loot. Best to hearth, so you don't have to die/rez your way out of the tower.

I think Blizz needs to either:
Make the adds yellow
Increase the respawn timer
Thin out the MOBs
THEN fix the top stair bug.

Good luck.

P.S. What is that nonsense about raptors in the quest description?

評論來自 Allakhazam

My spouse and I (36 Druid and 36 Ranger) just tried this one for the 5th time. These guys have INSANE agro range and they repop like rabbits! If it hadn't been for the fact that a wandering 35th Priest joined up with us and kept us alive, we wouldn't have stood a chance. As it was, we all ran out of mana several times and just couldn't catch a chance to drink. It was a pretty constant 30 minutes of combat before we could get into the tower to take out Balos.

Bliz needs to either lower the aggro range or the repop rate on this one. I don't advise running it without a tank and a healer.

評論來自 Allakhazam

Level 41 hunter. I had no problem with this once I figured out how to do it.

How NOT to do is is to try to fight your way through the deserters. They respawn faster than rabbits. Several times I'd be attacked by two or them, kill one, be fighting the second, and the first would repop.

But it isn't necessary to do that.

Ignore the deserters and run straight into the towers. If you have a pet, make sure it's on passive so it doesn't stop to fight. It'll just get killed. Run up the ramp and onto the broken steps. That's a "safe" spot - the mobs won't attack you there and the ones that are chasing you will stop and start milling around. You'll still be in combat, but they won't be attacking you.

Bandage up if you need to, then attack Balos. As soon as you step off the steps, the mobs that were attacking you before will be back, so be ready. I focused on Balos until he went green, then turned to the 3 mobs that were attacking my pet. If you need to heal, step back onto the steps, bandage, and step back off.

This approach worked like a charm for me.

評論來自 Allakhazam

Ok, this is my strategy remember I am an idiot so I decided to do the quest at level 37 paladin.....

First Run start into the tower get in front Bathos and here is the key DIE!

Seriously just die....Then run back to your body, Respawn drink a large health potion, and take on Balos, if u do this correctly u will only face Balos and one deserter.
Fight Balos first, take care of him until he is green. Then take on the deserter, Defeat him. Talk to Balos. Get the quest.

And then bubble and run like crazy.... This will probably only work if you are a Pally...

This is insane there is no reason for someone to complete the quest this way it is just a suggestion.

評論來自 Allakhazam

When I first saw the tower I noted that there were a lot of deserters, levels 37 and 38. I was about to call for reinforcements when I realized that they were green to me, friendly (I am a level 36 Alliance Dark Elf Rogue). I walked on into the tower to find the leader, Balos Jacken, expecting he would be friendly also. Instead, he jumped down from an upper floor and attacked me once I had entered the tower. He was level 38. None of the deserters joined in to help him, so I only had to fight him. Once I got his health down to about 25% he surrendered and gave me the information about Reethe to take back to Captain Vimes in Theramore.

評論來自 Allakhazam

This quest was broken in 1.10 but apparently fixed on the 2.3 quest realignment when they added new quests.

The bad point in this quest now is the respawn timing. There is a blindspot to these mobs. If you go on the broken steps they won't attack you. Wait for two minutes and they stop attacking you and only the leader of the tower will attack when you step off.

Then after he confesses he gives you a ? and a ! then run like hell out of there.

The quest is found at Lost Point. If you explored the entire map they are next to the words "THE QUAGMIRE" on your map.

Full Reethe Questline Info

It's a long story following Rethe's mystery on both alliance and horde side. I will tell the alliance side of things. I can also confirm it works in classic, you just need to get the required prequests. Questie will show the badge on the map, even if you didn't complete the prequests yet.

Alliance starts with 詹姆士·海爾 and the followup 詹姆士·海爾 OR 他們叫他微笑的吉姆 (you can do only one of the prerequisites)

Once you got these prerequisites you will be able to loot the 被燻黑的鐵盾牌 and 雷瑟的徽章 as well as inspect 蹄印 in the burned down Inn in Dustwallow Marsh at 29 47.

The badge is really small sitting on a plank in the middle of the inn, the shield hangs on the chimney, the hoofprints are in front of the house.

These items start 3 quest:

帕瓦爾·雷瑟上尉
黑色盾牌
可疑的蹄印

You are then send around 2 more times to other NPCs with the shield:

黑色盾牌
黑色盾牌

And the badge continues to the following questline:

帕瓦爾·雷瑟上尉
戴林的下屬
叛逃者
叛逃者

There is no follow-up to this quest, though you do get a bit more from the Horde's perspective if you come back and do their side of the chain. The conclusion to the mystery was not added into the game until Patch 2.3, thus we won't be seeing it in Classic. That patch addressed many of the abrupt endings to quest chains in Dustwallow Marsh.

On Horde side:

帕瓦爾·雷瑟上尉 from 塞拉摩衛兵徽章

可疑的蹄印 from 蹄印

黑色盾牌 from 黑色盾牌
黑色盾牌
黑色盾牌
黑色盾牌

盤問雷瑟

After handing in 雷瑟的徽章 you get an escort quest to help an ogre go talk to him.
However before you can get anything out of him some alliance show up and kill him for treason.
After all three of them has been completed horde gets a quest to go talk to the smith of the 被燻黑的鐵盾牌 in Thunderbluff.
Unfortunatly the smith cant possibly remember for whom he made the 被燻黑的鐵盾牌 so the quest ends there.

This quest appears to be "fixed" in Classic. Based on the other comments it seems that the deserters used to respawn super quickly. I completed this fairly easily on my 38 shaman. It's still a pain because there are tons of these guys and they all run at low health.

WARNING: Do not try the broken steps glitch, that appears to be fixed in Classic. Everything kept attacking me on the broken stair.

評論來自 haiasi

If anyone is trying this on Hardcore, none of the other mobs aggro'd. I watched videos from a long time ago and they all used to aggro. Some say it's a bug?

Regardless, I fought him and all the other deserters just ignored us fighting. Pretty easy solo fight.
