The damage of this attack (when assassination specced) is absolutely terrifying. Cold Blood was MADE for this skill! After a cheap shot and backstab (or mutilate) or two, pull of a (Cold Blood) 5 combo point eviscerate and you may easily do 2,000+ damage. This makes killing clothies and leather wearers easy, and increases your chance at being able to defeat hunters and warriors.

with 2.0 all rogues are given rank 9 eviscerate which previously was quite a feat to get. With initiative and seal fate, you could cheapshot, backstab, if backstab crit and initiative worked you could have a 5 point eviscerate as easy as that. The damage on eviscerate is ridiculous 5 points can hit for 2.5k easy.

For Rogues that do not have this rank 9 evis yet, you need to get it! My evis crits for about 2,000 damage on cloths, about 1800-1900 on leathers, around 1400 for plate. It is very nice compared to rank 8.

Is it just me, or is the formula shown in the website's tooltip flawed?

Consider this rogue with 2000 AP. According to the formula given, his Eviscerate damage would be:

Which leads us to a negative damage of -120 hit points.

And it doesn't matter what his AP would be, because it is multiplied by .15 in both terms, so it makes no difference.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

the - listed is showing the range, it's not a subtraction sign. the first set of brackets is the low end, the second set is the high end.

1285 - 1405 would be an eviscerate that hit for 1285 to 1405.

I do indeed think Eviscerate is a bit underpowered, but 2000 damage crits at level 70? I remember doing 2300 before level 64 (i.e. with rank 9), and am currently doing upwards of 3000 (level 67, around 1200 AP).

unfortunately his Ability suffers a lot from resilience and armor. When the tooltip says ~1150 Damage, it can actually CRIT for 1150 damage, since resilience really makes this ability less useful. Not saying its worthless, but seeing on Druids "Eviscerate" , from each energy point they gain more damage, and in my opinion, that would be nice to give Eviscerate too.

Having a druid, I can tell you that it SUCKS to have the extra energy go towards damage. It is not calculated like Execute is, and therefore doesn't factor into a ton of bigger hits. The calculation for Ferocious Bite looks something like:

So if your evis hits for 3K now, with the Ferocious Bite formula it would hit for 3K + roughly 200-400 dmg.

It totally sucks, because instead of mangling right after biting, I get a piddly amount of damage.

So... careful what you wish for.

I couldn't agree more with Fistdantilus, the return of damage from the extra energy from eviscerate would be apalling. We're better off having enough energy to gouge, blind, kick (whatever the case may be) after an eviscerate than losing all that energy for what an extra offhand white damage hit (equiv), no thank you.

In reguards to cold blood + eviscerate as an assassination rogue, please dont waste your cd. Under assassination, specced with imp kidney shot and find weakness, cold blood + mutilate will always do more damage than a 5 point eviscerate...unless you're naked

I cant really decide what is better to use in raids...(eviscerate or envenom or rupture when malice is up?)I have gone crazy by calculating dps etc testing specs and all that stuff...I also hear and see many different opinions about what is better in raids...Can any1 say what is the best spec and what is better in dps to use in raids with some proof plx? Basicly i play the common 19/42/0 swords with 2 @ resist stun & fear effects which is quite good in some fights (aka archimonde where the main goal is to avoid the fire when u getting feared)Anyways i play only with eviscerate as a finishing move (since i have the bonus from T5) shiv to refresh or add deadly poison stacks and ss ofc...I am confused...bah any suggestions? :P

While it may be true that Eviscerate used to hit harder back in the day, I don’t think it’s underpowered. It still has its uses in PvP and PvE (Finishing someone/something off ; while Rupture and Slice’n’Dice is already up ; Dealing damage and still being able to gouge/blind etc…)
Additionaly, with the right spec this can still hit like a truck:

On a target with Exposed Armor (0 armor on cloth/leather targets), with a 19/0/42 or similar Shadow Step spec a critical Eviscerate on a low health target can hit for about 5,000 damage, making it as effective as a 35% Execute in that context.

This can be achieved with 2000 base attack power + Improved Eviscerate (+15%) + Dirty Deeds (+20%) + Shadowstep (+20%) + Critical Strike (+100%)

1405 Base damage * 1,15 * 1,20 * 1,20 * 2,0 = 4,700

The situation isn’t even that uncommon. If your target is low on health and tries to run away, you can Shadowstep and finish the job in a quite impressive way doing this…

I killed a lock with 6500 hp in 4 seconds with:
Premeditation->Shadowstep->Ambush->Vanish->Ambush->Eviscerate.....
pretty easy

Yeah that's great if you like wasting a whole vanish to kill a pansy lock.
I can kill a lock as Muti or Combat (if I get opener) is ten or less seconds.
Why not wait a few seconds and NOT blow all your important cooldowns?
Just something to think about...
Yeah Eviscerate should ignore armor or act like execute ... Its almost useless now that we have resilience.
Or does blizz intend it to be a grinding PvE type finisher? But "finisher" implies its the end of the battle. I have 5 combo points before the mob is below 50%...
If Blizz does we should see rupture get a ... Or at least have Muti not have the prerequisite of being behind the target before you mutilate... hmmmm....idk...

Assuming 3000 AP (level 80) this skill would be doing

2427 - 3281 Unmitigated damage.. then add Improved Eviscerate and you get
3927 top-damage non-crit. :p

Let's compare the new ranks of both Eviscerate and Rupture

Let's say we have our toon at 2500 AP at level 80 (that I consider more realistic than 3000 AP of the above poster)

Eviscerate:

2352 - 3106 for an average eviscerate

Normal=2729
Talented=3302

mitigation on raid boss...i can't remember how much it is but let's set it to 30% including both kind of bosses (caster/melee) and average Armor penetration and we'll have

EvisNormalMitigated = 1910.3
EvisTalentedMitigated = 2311.4

we are going to see what's the average damage per energy of this skill so

Normal 1910/35 = 54.58 DpE
Talented 2311.4/35 = 66.04 DpE

anyway eviscerate can crit, as usual our crit rate should assest around 30% so

Eviscerate on a long fight will do

Normal
1910+1637.4= 3547,4 average with
3547.4/35 =101.35 DpE

Talented
2311+2278.38 = 4589.38
4589.38/35= 131.12 DpE

but considering armor mitigation at 30%

EvisNormalMitigatedAndCrit = 2483.18 (70.94 DpE)

EvisTalentedMitigatedAndCrit = 3212.566 (91.78 DpE)

Rupture damage ignores armors, and we can have up to 60% improve for Rupture:

I don't feel like doing the math but I'm curious how this and envenom compare since envenom is unmitigated and if you are assassination spec you probably wont be using rupture as much so you can keep SnD up. So if you could please add envenom.

As assassination eviscerate and envenom will refresh SnD, so you won't have to worry about reapplying it after its initial use.

That would be awesome, but with the average rogue's AP going up in Wrath (2,500 as a ball park estimate) I could see this becoming OP extremely quickly.

Assuming 5 CPs:

2,500(2.5)= 6,250

Assuming the average player's health is around 20,000 in PvP gear at 80, that is about a quarter of someone's health.

I do not know how to turn regular damage to critical damage, but I saw you multiply by two. That would mean that on a critical Eviscerate at 80 would do a whopping 12,500 damage, and over half of the average player's health.

It would be Execute gone mad and on steroids, and I'm guessing it would be so even with mitigation to the damage, though I do not have the hard math to say so for sure.

Warning: Sloppy calculations and some guesswork ahead.

Envenom scales better with higher AP (every 6.66 AP increases the damage by of Eviscerate by 1, whereas every 2.85 AP increases Envenom by 1), but Eviscerate has a considerably higher base damage.

The current tooltip for Envenom is bugged, saying the same base amounts for ranks 2, 3, and 4. This is admittedly purely speculative, but based on the increases of Eviscerate's minimum damage as a percentage, I'd wager that Envenom rank 4 will have a 5 point max of about 1470 base. I'll go from that hypothetical amount.

5 point Eviscerate averages 2104, so that will be our base amount here.

For a 2500 envenom, you would need 2,935 AP. For a 2500 eviscerate, you would need 2,637 AP.
For a 2600 envenom, you would need 3,220 AP. For a 2600 eviscerate, you would need 3,303 AP.
Here's the magic number. For a 2579 envenom, you would need 3,160 AP. For a 2579 eviscerate, you would need 3,163 AP.

Those, of course, are against a mob with 0 mitigation and with no special circumstances (such as talents or crits). In fact, if you factor in the 20% armor (Wrath raid bosses will have an armor bonus but I don't know how that will affect things exactly), then...

To get a 2500 eviscerate, you would need to deal 3,125 pre-armor. This would require to 6,800 AP! Even rank 2 envenom (740 base) only needs 5,016 AP to deal 2500 damage.

Envenom is made even better with the 3.0.2 buff to Envenom, which increases the chance to apply poisons by 15%. Throw in Master Poisoner and Precision, and each attack has a 60% chance of applying deadly poison. Using a mutilate build, factoring in the ton of haste being included in Wrath, you should be able to get up to 5 stacks again in between poison ticks (Unless you're unlucky, anyway). You might even get away with only using deadly poison with one hand (Say, a fast off-hand, since the "slow off-hand for mutilate" myth has largely been dispelled), getting some extra dps in the main hand with a talented instant, and still envenom'ing more often than not.

Now, if you're combat or subtlety, eviscerate might still be your finisher of choice, because it will take time to reapply those deadly poisons and you might lose DPS in the long run. But if you're running mutilate, and rupture and slice and dice are both up, you should be able to just spam mutilate and envenom until you need another rupture, while keeping hunger for blood up.

For a personal example, my freshly-dinged 70 mutilate rogue with about 1200 AP will crit an envenom for just over 3k, and against the same mob, only crit about 2k with eviscerate from armor. In no case have I seen envenom deal less damage than eviscerate, but that's partly due to envenom being talented and eviscerate not. Even without vile poisons, envenom would still deal about 2.5k on a crit.

The HAT is required for the eviscerate to be 5 point. Or you can go with Seal fate instead.

I've tested out the formula on my excel chart, but for some reason the values that this formula proclaim are not the same as the in-game tooltip value. In addition, my Recount Addon meters are showing me #s that are, on average, off from the formula's speculation. I have also tried Wowiki's Eviscerate formula but it, too, is wrong. Anyone else seeing this problem?

I'm not entirely sure what to say about the math shown above me. Even specced into Rupture, with the 4-piece set bonus for Tier 8, my Rupture was still doing less damage than my Eviscerate critical strikes (when specced into Eviscerate.)

I simply find it much easier to use Eviscerate repeatedly instead of keep up Rupture and use Eviscerate while Rupture is ticking. When I'm in a 25-man raid, my Eviscerate crits for about 10.5k on a raid boss.

lets say we have 5 rogues specced into Ruthlessness Relentless Strikes and Honor Amobg Thieves.

now if all 5 of them are in the same group, and spamming Eviscerate, they can put out insane dps. as in over 9000.

Eviscerate = 35 energy
100% chance to refund 25 energy on eviscerate
60% chance to apply another combo point when you use eviscerate.
every time someone crits with an ability (ie Eviscerate), you gain 1 combo point.
gain 10 energy per second.

with an 70% crit chance, (obtainable simply by stacking agility), this is probabilities of how many combo points you will have per eviscerate:

0: 0.0972%
1: 1.2798%
2: 6.993%
3: 20.286%
4: 32.928%
5: 38.416%

now with high end raid gear and just stacking agility, expect to have over 9000dps on a standard patchwerk fight.

While 9k is pretty impressive, that scenario will probably never happen.

How many raids have you been in with 5 rogues? Let alone 5 spec'd HaT? I am not doubting you, I just know on my server that is next to impossible, we only have 1 HaT rogue in the top 50, and I question why they are still spec'd HaT.

I know it is possible to do some pretty high dps with HaT, but IMHO HaT is not a viable raiding spec. You rely to much on everyone else, and if you don't have another rogue in the raid, forget about it. HaT rogues are so dynamic, they can be first, or last in DPS, depending on the rest of the group. Even with a really good 25 group, my HaT build could not even come close to my Muti build. With Focused Attacks, Ruthlessness, and Relentless Strikes, I gain more energy/CP then I ever did with HaT.

Tier 8 4pc effectively increases the dps of your rupture by (your crit rate)(2.06)(1.2). The 1.2 is the combat talent Prey on the Weak, so ignore that if you're calculating for mutilate. 2.06 assumes relentless earthsiege diamond (2 x 1.03 = 2.06).
My average crit rate on rupture, based from WoL in raids, is around 50%. So my calculation would look like this:
x (.5)(2.06)(1.2), which comes out to 1.236 . What that means is that t8 4pc increases my average rupture damage by 123.6%.

You're doubling the benefit of crits where you shouldn't be. Your calculation is solving for the damage increase from rupture critting, and you crit for 100% more damage - not 200% more. Multiplying by 2.0 would mean you have a crit damage multiplier of 300%. The calculation (though it is not likely to be accurate, still) would be .5*1.03*1.2. This works out to be a 61.8% dps increase which is more in line.

Think about what you said logically. Let's say rupture ticks 8 times. If it can now crit and you have a 50% crit chance, that means that 4 of the ticks crit - which effectively gives you the damage of 12 ticks (if you were to crit for simply double), a 50% increase. You crit for 20% more because of PotW so you increase the dps boost (50%) by another 20%, which gives you 60. Factoring in the 3% increased crit damage gives you the 1.8% further increase (.6*.03).

In order for you to get a 100% increase in damage from rupture critting for double, you would need a 100% crit rate. Be careful when designing your own formulas that you don't forget what you're solving for - in this case an expression of the damage increase through rupture critting, and not total damage done.

Rupture is more dps button press for button press... what you fail to realize is your going to get many Eviscerates off before Rupture runs its entire durations.

Thus in the same time frame Eviscerate will win.

Now that being said. The two should not be pitted against each other. Its apples and oranges. Your going to use both on any boss fight. Regardless of how you're specced you're going to get rupture up and running then while its up you're going to get another finisher off a couple times.

The in-game tooltip right now incorrectly reads "16 Energy". It does take the full 35 to cast, but it "lights up" at 16 Energy as being available when it's really not.

No it's actually correct, or so it seems. As I've been leveling my rogue, I noticed this ability started costing very little energy, and as I level, I notice that the energy cost slowly rises, up to 35 I am assuming.

The reason for this seems pretty clear -- If it cost 35 energy, no rogues would ever use it, because they are probably not going to reach the point where they either have 5 combo points to use it with, or that it does enough damage to warrant 35 energy with 2-4 combo points.

Just my two cents. But anyways, it is not incorrect from what I've seen. I have definitely been using this ability below 35 energy.

If you have more detailed information on this to prove me wrong, of course, please let me know. I'm interested in this too.

Assuming you have 7000 attack power, the 5 point Eviscerate will hit for an average of 6042-6394 damage. If you put 3 points into the Coup de Grace talent, which increases the damage done by your Eviscerate and Envenom by 20%, Eviscerate will hit for approximately 7250-7672 damage. The damage will be different because of your opponent's armor and your talents. Also, I think your AP will most likely be higher as a level 85, so...do the math.

Also, I did some calculations as well for a Sub rogue...It turned out pretty awesome!

Check this out:

Assuming you have 7000 AP (It will be higher at lvl 85, this is just an example)

You were supposed to hit for 6042-6394.

Assuming you will hit within 6 sec after breaking Stealth (Master of Subtlety), you will cause 10% increased damage: 6646-7033.

Assuming you have a Bleed effect on your target (2 points in Sanguinary Vein), you will do 10% increased damage: 7310-7736.

Assuming you have maxed out Coup de Grace (located in the first set of talents in Assassination tree), your Eviscerate will do 20% increased damage: 8772-9283.

Assuming your mastery, Executioner, does 25% increased damage, you will hit for: (now this is crazy): 10965-11603.

Of course, your damage will be reduced by the opponent's armor, but still, its pretty awesome!

If you are playing as any horde character, eviscerate can be used to summon forth the Song of the Nightelf.

To do that, simply engage a male nightelf in PvP. When he is low on health and you have accrued five combo points, use this ability. The male nightelf immediately kneels before you, pushing back his shoulders and extending his arms as he prepares his sonata. He opens his mouth wide enough to allow you look straight in his stomach and goes Uwgh. AAAAAAAAAAAH!

The only disadvantage of the song is that it's so short. However, it might be possible to use Fan of Knives in a group of male nightelves to intensify the results. I haven't tried this yet, but maybe someone else can.

Dispatch actually is only available for Combat, Subtlety Rogue,

for Assassination Rogue, Envenom replaces Dispatch.

Rogue **specializations** that increase Dispatch damage! These "specializations" are **automatically acquired at a certain level** with a certain specialization(spec), with the exception of Mystic Touch: it is spec. independent, and is acquired at lvl 36, by all rogues.

if Subtlety!:

Master of Subtlety Requires lvl 10.
Requires lvl 10.
Find Weakness Req. lvl 20.
Mystic Touch Req. lvl 36 . Causes Mystic Touch .
Req. lvl 60.
Mastery: Executioner Req. lvl 80.

However, I can tell you from personal experience, this is a blessing in disguise, because due to the overall mechanics of the assassination spec., you wouldn't want to use evisc. anyways.

PvP multipliers are not in the tooltip or minable in the spell data.

From the August 26 2016 7.0.3 hotfix notes:

Run Through (Outlaw) damage reduced by 15% in PvP.

At six combo points (with Deeper Stratagem), the tooltip for this ability says it does 205,326 damage (on my Rogue at the time of writing this comment).

But when I used it on an enemy with the full six points... it crit for a measly 105,000-odd.

So either I'm missing something, or this ability is bugged. Feel free to correct me on this.

Daggers, for instance Ambuscade Dagger are currently not "one handed melee weapons" and therefore you cannot use Dispatch.

The Darkshore world quests do, however also award the Ambuscade Sword.

FYI, it appears that one handed daggers are not counted for this spell at least currently in BFA. So make sure to choose one of the weapons it lists on the description above as you are leveling.

Im coming in late to the discussion. Its plague time, 2020. Why hasn't Blizzard fixed the tool tip? I came here to find out why Dispatch, only slightly important to the spec, wasn't working and I was dying Groundhog Day style. As you all have said, my one-handed (I checked) Dagger was a fail. Sigh. Blizzard, this is just lazy.
