With holy talents, this spell does 10% more healing, costs 15% less mana, and casts .5 seconds faster.

While it's a bit clunky to use by anyone not specced holy, a properly talented raiding priest uses this spell to its maximum potential.

Since this spell has the same cast time as Heal (and that spell has no more ranks learned past level 36 (?) or so), this spell can be considered a replacement for Heal except under very specific circumstances.

With around 1.8k +healing this can be used insted of Flash heal rank (Rank 9). Its bottom end is around the same and can crit for over 4k(600 more than a Flash heal critical)

so talented becomes 91.43% bonus healing, with a +1500 healing gear u have a maximal critical heal (considering maximal of the healing, so 2784) 6233 heal spell.with a 10% bonus healing of the talent means ~6800 hp.

sounds nice healing but the mana cost is quite elvetaed, would scale down at least about 2-4 ranks.

This is the last rank of greater heal since wotlk. It has slightly less healing done than http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=48782#screenshots, and the coefficient is the same from bonus healing. With holy talents, it would have the same casting time as holy light, and also the same coefficient. Empowered healing can help increase this coefficient by approx. 20%, and idk what effect it would have with http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=18535, but all i can say is that for now, Holy light seems like a better heal, with the holy talents for the pala treee that increase haste, to the ones that reduce HL cast time.

Wrong. Holy Light has a casting coefficient of 2.5/3.5, but greater heal has a coefficient of 3.0/3.5. Hence, when your spellpower is high enough, greater heal will outheal Holy Light. Although I'm not sure on the exact number of spellpower needed, I can safely tell you that the calculation for plus healing depends on the original casting time of the spell and does not take any talents into calculation. This is why even if a mage is specced improve fireball 5/5 and has his/her fireball cast time at 3.0, the spell itself will still take benefit of 100% spellpower because of its ORIGINAL 3.5s cast time.

Holy Light has a higher coefficient than Greater Heal because of the effects of Blessing of Light added to the base spell. This increases its scaling with spellpower by approximately 25%.

Greater Heal gets a 180% (roughly) SP coefficiant talented, while Holy Light gets 166%

So i was wondering how much Spell power a Priest would need to start beating a paladins Holy light (assumign the Paladin is at the sam SP level as you)

These are all based before taking into account plus effectivness abilities they deal purely with Holy light and Greater heal talented to take extra SP.

The average Holy light is 5166
The average Greater heal is 4270

Diffrence is 5166 - 4270 = 896

Using the SP coefficients from http://www.wowwiki.com/Spell_power_coefficient

Holy light 166%
Greater heal (talented) 181.35%

Diffrence equals 181.35 - 166 = 15.35 %

So 15.35 % of you sp is to "fill the void" between the two spells so your 100% SP will be 896/15.35 *100 = 5837 ~ SP

Checking this
Holy light - 5166 + (5837*1.66) = 14 855.42
Greater heal - 4270 + (5837*1.8135) = 14 855.39

The passing line is at a ridiculous 5837 Spell Power, adding effects such as Healing light and Imp. devotion, of course paladins will most likely be able to spam Holy light for longer than Greater heal.

Sadly Greater Heal just fails to compare against Flash Heal for both Discipline and Holy. Greater Heal's cast-time is too long and it has a high HPM cost.

There's essentially no point to even talent into Divine Fury or Imp. Healing because Flash Heal does everything downranked Greater Heal did in the past.

I am new with the role as priest, but i decided be a priest as a healer.
But i dont get all the healing spells you get as a healer.
I only use 3 spells for healing the renew, the flash heal, and sometimes heal nova
Ok am still an youngster level 34 atm, but my question is: why priests has got so many different healing spells like lesser heal, heal, greater heal and so on

On a side note, you can put GH's long cast time to mitigate the effects of Sindragosa's Unchained Magic. Because all spells with cast time only apply a stack of Instability when you finish casting, you can time it so that Instability falls off before your GH lands, as opposed to doing nothing at all until the stack falls off. You can also queue up a Prayer of Healing to the same effect. This is only really notable in ten man p3 if your other healer gets tombed.

This is priests' slow, big heal.

In Cataclysm (as of 4.0.3a), all healers have the following types of heals:

Quick, expensive heal: 1.5 second cast, very high mana cost, high heal value.
Inexpensive heal: 3 second cast (usually talented to 2.5), very low mana cost, low heal value.
Slow, big heal: 3 second cast (usually talented to 2.5), high mana cost, very high heal value.

The mana costs differ very slightly between classes. Two of them have the quick heal cost more than the big heal.

Heal is WoD's version of the previous Priest spell Greater Heal and is a slow, quite cheap heal with a moderate healing output. In this post, you'll be able to see and compare a few priest spells' mana efficiency and time efficiency. In order to make these post relevant to priests of all Levels, Item Levels and with different amounts of Spell Power, Haste & Base Mana, I've decided to exclude Spell Power, Base Mana & Haste of my calculations. By doing this, you can't view any correct amounts in neither Healing Ouput, Mana Cost, Cast Time, Healing Per Mana nor Healing Per Second but you can however compare the different values between different spells.

Healing Output: 332.64% of Spell Power = 3.3264 *
Mana Cost: 2.0% of Base Mana = 0.02 *
Cast Time: 100-% of Base Cast Time = (1-) * 2.5 sec

Mana Efficiency = Healing Output / Mana Cost = 3.3264/0.02 = 166.320 HPM (Healing per Mana)
Time Efficiency = Healing Output / Cast Time = 3.3264/2.5 ≈ 1.331 HPS (Healing per Second)
