Blizzard has stated that this ability may replace Flash Heal for Disc priests. This makes sense since currently Greater Heal is a Disc only ability; the logic here is that Disc players use PW: Shield in place of Heal, Spirit Shell in a pinch to replace Flash Heal, and Greater Heal when simply preventing damage won't cut it.

is it just me or is the spellpower modifier extreme on that abilty with around 11k spellpower and 20mastery it would be like 80k absorb

From some limited testing, this is what I've observed:
1) Not on the GCD.
2) Caps at 60% of the caster's Max health.
3) Disables Divine Aegis for duration.
4) Absorb scales with ~~and~~ crit chance.

Will update as things change.

This is easily one of the best parts of Discipline now. ~~While it is active, you recieve a substantial throughput boost from the combined crit and full mastery~~ scaling. The ability to stack absorbs relatively high on many people with a very short cooldown makes this a strong choice against burst and sustained raid damage.

Have to say, I like the 15668 mechanic, especially if it turns out to not be on global cooldown! I'm gonna see what it's like in practice.

Edit: In the beta the mechanic turned 80% of the remaining absorb amount into a heal when the absorb expired. I miss that mechanic. =(

Been testing this in it's current form (Cast it and for the next 15 sec you create absorbs) and it's VERY powerful.
A greater heal usually hits for ~100k but the spirit shell absorbs ~150k.
Prayer of Healing heals for ~26k and absorbs ~10k (with my current mastery being on the low side).
The spirit shell form of PoH creates a ~47k absorb.
Hitting 5 targets with PoH: ~130k with 50k absorb; PoH Spirit Shell: ~240k
It's like having a guaranteed crit built into it without having to rely on the spell crit %. Very useful and very powerful absorbs.

This is somewhat out of date, SS value acts like a heal so it's sorta unpredictable. I'm also not liking the way Inner Focus and SS work together so I don't use them in conjunction since 5.2.

A few notes of importance:

~~Scales with~~ Doesn't scale "directly" anymore.
Scales with (single target heals while in Spirit Shell add a stack of grace)
Scales with your crit chance

Very important play-style tips!

Is affected by . A 5 target PoH + IF + SS >> 5 target PoH + IF.

A very simple way to stack a lot of absorbs on the tank fast (i.e a tank CD): Penance -> + Heal -> Spirit Shell + Heal
If you are careful, you can get absorbs up to 100% of your health on a player. 40% on the DA cap, and 60% on the SS cap.

Calculating Spirit Shell for Prayer of Healing: (Tooltip heal value)*1.5*(Mastery %)*(Crit Chance)
For any other spell, generally speaking, remove the 1.5 multiplier
HOTFIX: Nov 5, 2012. Divine Aegis now is a 1.5 multiplier.

I have made a macro that does the above in about 5 sec. If you are using FDCL it's even better. It's also recommended to do this macro with 5 stacks of Evangelism.

With my health at 400k, this macro makes a huge heal with a massive divine aegis (160k DA) and then pops SS with a GH and a FH for a 241k Spirit Shell.

As of 5.2, Spirit Shell

"...can no longer be dispelled and now provides an absorb shield equal to the average healing and absorb of the triggering spell, including criticals and Divine Aegis."

However, it should also be noted that Divine Aegis is no longer a guaranteed shield through Prayer of Healing. This means that while Spirit Shell now includes , there is no way to predict when both will happen at the same time.
