It's meant to be used on Single Targets just as on AoE...
You can cast it on your Prismatic Crystal too, and in fact you can cast it twice in a row on your prismatic crystal to excellent effect.

I'm assuming this spell also works with Shatter? In that case, expect to see frost mages using Freeze or in combo with this. Quite brutal.

Does this not interrupt anymore? Even since Highmaul opened it doesn't interrupt trash spells anymore.

My comments pertain to Single target, before you rush to down vote me (sigh).

This ability has limited value for single target. It generates a GCD and yet the debuff only lasts 2s. You must therefore use it like a two button combo in other games, but suffer that GCD.

There are two charges and the cooldown is short enough that you could save it for your big shot abilities so that they now become 'two button' big shot abilities with double damage. Very nice.

But the down side is to take this talent you must forego your bomb. For WoD and MoP at least, the bombs are a key part of a Mage's rotation.

That last point of mine is the clincher for me. The bomb just seems to fit better and for Frost, the synergy with my lance can't be overlooked.

Someone else can talk about cleave and AoE, lol.

Just in case anyone wants to know what happens when you replace Frost Nova with Ice Nova:

has no effect on Ice Nova.
Charred Glyph still grants an automatic Frost Nova, but it doesn't turn into an Ice Nova.

the 2 sec 100% damage buff can be consumed by RNG artifact trait Shadowbind or icicles. You can use Ice Nova to shatter an Ice Lance but make sure there are no icicles in the process of being fired before casting Ice Nova.
