This quest comes up when you bring up the Dragon Isles reputation summary (off the mini-map) if you haven't yet done the starting quests for Zaralek Cavern. It will tell you "Complete the quest Smells Like Loamm near Loamm in Zaralek Cavern". I found, on an alt, that I could go into Zaralek Cavern and do daily quests on an alt even though I didn't have the quests to go into the cavern. And this quest did not show up when I went to the correct location to pick it up.

If you have this showing on your Dragon Isles reputation summary as a requirement, it's because you have to unlock The Land Beneath. And, in order to unlock it, you need to have finished chapter 1 in The Forbidden Reach. I could not find anything saying that you had to have something finished in The Forbidden Reach before getting the quest to go into Zaralek Cavern. In fact, all of the 10.1 notes indicate that all of your characters should get the "The Land Beneath" upon logging in after 10.1 goes live.

I got very worried that I wasn't getting credit for Loamm Niffen reputation on my alt because this reputation showed as "Faction Locked". However, I did get faction reputation rewards from the reputation guy in Loamm, even though the Dragon Isles reputation summary showed the faction as locked.

It is very important you first grab this quest A Worthy Ally: Loamm Niffen
So the rep rewards count for credit allowing you to basically get the first sparks with no grind involved.

If you came here wondering where to get this quest, you can only find it when you do the introduction quests for zaralek cavern. Because there is no skip for alts to the niffen. Yet.

The worst quest chain design by Blizzard in Dragonflight. It is so easy to miss this confusing quest chain and spend hours fighting monsters in Zaralak Cavern without unlocking Loamm Niffen rep. (Ask me how I know...)

Not explained here: there appear to be several quests prior in the general vicinity prior to Smells Like Loamm.

Secrets From Our Father
The Earth Gives Way

Then the little dude came up and offered me Smells Like Loamm.

If you were like me, and everything you tried including others suggestions don't work and you just cant get the "Smells like Loamm" to pop,
You will have to be like me and "Suck it up" and do the intro chain from hell, its a hour of your life.

Remember why your doing this all... Spark of Shadowflame among other reasons... to get your Loamm Niffen faction grind to progress...

Solution I Used

I had to go back to The Forbidden Reach, and complete the quest line ... The Best we Have sucks but that's the way it is.

I.E. Do all the 10 quests in the Story Line A Creche Divided

And then instead of doing "Return to Viridia" I talked to Ebyssian and picked up News From Beneath ; He will offer the SKIP OPTION and take you to Valdraken instantly... You can go back later and wrap up the Forbidden Reach quests... == > If you return to Forbidden Reach (via flight path after going for a coffee... You talk to Scalecommander Azurathel and turn in all 3-4 quests you managed to finish and you get a Rep boost to Friendly with Obsidian Wardens.

Finish off the quick intro quest "A Crack In The World"

Optional: Talk to Nozdormu and pickup "Dawn of the Infinite"

Now you have to complete the chain ...
News From Beneath is the long chain of 16 quests, Of which # 13 is Smells Like Loamm .. which is what we are after

A Crack In The World ==> Leads you to When the flames fell which is the entrance to the Zalarek Caverns that everyone refers to.

Basically something failed and the Skip options either were missed or didnt work as expected but this is where you get back on track.

You might as well do "Rest well warrior" its right there, and you get 15 Flightstones...

When done, talk to Sabellion and get on with it, fly down through the tunnel to Zalarek Caverns.
Do everything you have to do as prompted, dont skip anything and dont leave the zone .. takes about 15 - 30 minutes if your lucky.

Maybe a hour of your life you will want back but it will all work out in the end.....

If you're simply doing the WQs for the weekly to get the Drake Crests, the unlock doesn't matter. I only have 5 of my 18 characters who have completed the chain quest. Several of the others are almost to rep level 20, so really it looks like it unlocks for the basic gameplay, you just can't see it unless you talk to to Mimuup.

If you are trying to enable Loamm rep but have the lock that says you require "Smells like Loamm", you must first get past the Forbidden Reach. If you don't have any quests in the Forbidden Reach, then you first need to talk to Kurazidaia at the top of the tower in Valdrakken. Then, log out and log back in and you should see The Land Beneath quest in Valdrakken, which is the starting quest you need to unlock Loamm Kniffen rep (not the "Smells like Loamm" quest that is listed in the lockout for the rep). Because this entire line of quests is unreasonably unintuitive, additionally please note that Hadexian is not at the world marker for "The Land Beneath", he is actually across the way on the top platform at 51, 35.

Such an annoyingly unintuitive unlock for this rep on alts, zzzz.

If you've been told that you need to complete this quest, but can't find Elder Honeypelt anywhere around Loamm, you need to go back to where she initially gives the quest. This is in Deepflayer Nest at 57 / 38. The quest log implies that you can just turn the quest in, but you need to pick it up first. And that means going back to her original location.
