Between Us and Freedom is part of the Demon Hunter starting quest chain. - Vault of the Wardens storyline.
We were chained in Vault of the Wardens after the events of previous Mardum quest chain. Now we are in Legion time and the Wardens prison is under attack... We have to escape and save Illidan, but Gul'dan manages to take Illidan cage with him.

All of the DH quests while levelling where you have to kill a beast and 'take its power' have bugged for me. I've had to kill two of these quest devils twice, and Bastillax three times before it finally completed. Thought I was doing something wrong, but I think they're just bugged.

1. Between Us and Freedom
• Accept the quest, Between Us and Freedom, from Kor'vas Bloodthorn at coords 24.4, 55.9 (The Warden's Court of Vault of the Wardens).
• Travel up the stairs, located to the south, and follow the corridor to coords 50.4, 77.7.
• Defeat Bastillax, an Eredar.
• Exit the Chamber of Night (and Vault of the Wardens), to the east, to coords 84.1, 82.8.
• Turn in the quest to either Kayn Sunfury or Altruis the Sufferer (depending which Illidari Champion you chose to follow).

As of today, it's still bugged.

Had to kill him 3 times before I finally got "take his power".

-you get the power by killing & looting him.

Completing this quest still requires multiple Bastillax kills as of 1/10/18. I did not abandon the quest; I did a /reload after killing Bastillax and not receiving completion credit. I received credit on my third kill.

This quest is some %^&*ing bull#$%^, bugged and overtuned like ^&*!. How are you supposed to survive here? Died so many times all my gear is broken, really great designed quest ffs.

As of 11/1/2018 this fight is bugged and way overtuned...took like two tries for me to even complete this quest.

It's been bugged for me for several attempts. Eventually, I got through, and this is what I did:

After I'd killed Bastillax without progressing, I was on the other side of the circular arena, standing on the steps. When he respawned, I threw a glaive at him and realized he was anchored to the middle of the room.

By staying just out of melee range (I never entered melee range, either) and using abilities like Eye Beam, Glaive Toss, and Blade Dance, Altruis and a few other NPCs managed to kill him. It was a slow fight, but whatever.

After he was dead, I stood by the body, was finally given quest completion, and was able to leave. Hopefully this works for others; I haven't tested it further because like HELL I want to slog through the starting zone all over again!

Today I made a DH and did get credit on Bastillax on the first kill. I did die 15 times. I think the DH starting zone is WAY overtuned. I don't think it should be this hard to get thru any starting zone. I will NEVER make another Demon Hunter.

still seems bugged, But it might also be because we kill him too fast.

I tried killing him slower 3rd time, where he cast a spell, after that the quest complete, might work for others too :)

Killing it too fast seems to bug it, i killed him several times without credit. Last time i just auto attacked it till lifted me air, then nuked it down. That seemed to work and got i it done (finally)

Apparently no longer bugged and no longer overtuned, as of 12/30/2019. I took him on the first try and barely lost any health. If you're having problems, be sure to use your interrupts (first Disrupt, then Chaos Nova) to interrupt his special moves.

As of today he is still bugged (patch 8.3). Had to retry 3 times, last time that worked was because I stopped bursting him and let him give me a beat until he lift me in the air

As of Patch 8.3. This quest is bugged. This will be #3 killing Bastillax. I wonder if it's cause he summons more demons and I tunnel vision him. With another DH doing it. We killed it quick without him summoning demons.

Still took multiple attempts as of 8.3.0, here are the things i did different the third time, no clue if any of them actually helped get completion or if it was truly just random:

1) killed him slow
2) took time to kill most of the demons in the room while fighting (maybe quest completion is somehow tied to some of these guys idk)
3) killed him when he's out of his dodge phase (this one seems like a shot in the dark, but idk bugs are buggy)

As of Sept 30, 2020 it was still bugged. I went ham, like you do on a DH and seemingly killed him too fast? Anyway, the second I just auto attacked for the most part and just let it happen.

12/23/2020: As many have said, it's "bugged".

If you do not get credit and are left there with his body lying on the floor, just type /reload.
He'll respawn.

After you kill him, do not loot him until you get the quest completed notification.

10.0.5 still bugged, had to kill it 3 times. That seems to be the number.
