100% Increased Speed mount that is only usable inside The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj. It's important for everyone in your AQ40 raid to get one of these bug mounts. Once you kill The Prophet Skeram and enter the actual Temple, you can no longer use your normal mount. AQ40 is huge and having one of these bug mounts will help negate some of the downtime.

-The red version of the bug mount is considerably harder to come by. It's drop rate is a good deal lower than the other 3 colors.

In an attempt to farm this mount for the Feat of Strength, I found that you can treat the first pull as you would SWP Trash farming. Kill the eradicator first off, and kill 3 of the sentinels and run out with one still up. Sentinels reset, rinse, repeat. I have not seen one drop yet, here are most that I have seen drop.

When I raided this place pre-BC, I did it with 2 guilds.
If I recall correctly, it dropped twice for both guilds, in around a span of a month.., after that, I didn't see it much.

It is the rarest, I wouldn't say best looking (Not the biggest fan on red), but it's something quite good to have.

I remember my guild leader saying on vent:
"Oh look its the red mount, im ninjering it, take 300 DKP points". So everyone was like "lol".

But you could tell that only the Guild Master, and officers were entitled to this =p;

This mount won't drop in the beginning of the instance. I generally tends to drop after the Twin Emps. Thats probably why its a feat. Due to the fact that guilds actually had to be somewhat good pre-bc. Not that that matters now and u can easily rock the place with 70s probably even easier with 80s

went into aq40 today on my 80 DK to try and get this mount. in less than 30 minutes and killing about 10 mobs had all 4 drop including the red. don't know if I got lucky or they're dropping more regularly since fewer people are running AQ for the achievement.

Perfectly soloable by Protection Warriors.

I got mine after roughly 5-6 hours of grinding myself and the best way of grinding it appears to be:

Kill off the patrol at the start of the instance.
And charge the pack of 4 Anubisath Sentinel's.
Kill off 3 of them, run out of the instance & run back in, the 3 you just killed will have respawned and you just continue on killing those 3 for as long as you want.

Just keep in mind that they always have random buffs which they share with their 'brothers' when they die, and when the remaining anubisath's gain a buff and they're healed for 50% of their hp, so don't bother spamming cleave/tc/sw, just focus them down one by one.

Their Abilities (ninja'd from wowwiki):

* Mending aka Renew - Healing for 4752 every 3 seconds.
* Mortal Strike - ~3200 damage to the target.
* Periodic Knock Away aka Knockback - Periodically knock enemies away, reducing their hate. Immune to taunt.
* Periodic Mana Burn - Periodically casts mana burn.
* Periodic Shadow Storm - Periodically casts Shadow Storm. Targets all players outside of melee range and up to some distance >40 yards.
* Reflect Arcane and Fire
* Reflect Shadow and Frost
* Thorns - Causes 475 to 525 Nature damage to attackers. Resistible
* Thunderclap - ~800 Nature damage, no debuff, resistible.

Basically, leave the Mortal strike- & thorn-mobs until the others are dead (Unless you get one with Mending) If you're a paladin attempting to do it like this, add the mana burning mob to the list.

Mortal Strike was a little too rough for me as a death knight, so I'd just reset them until none of them had it (completely random).

There's also a visual bug with the Anubisaths who have the mending ability. If you kill one before the one with mending, the mending buff will disappear from under their name. (it will still have mending)

I got the red mount on my second pack of Anubisath.

god this sucks to farm, didn't think it would take that long but i have had 19 mounts drop so far (10 blue, 5 green and 4 yellow) but not a single red im going crazy!

Me and a friend went in last night and started killing the beginning trash. We killed the first pat, went around the corner and killed the other 2 pats plus all the Sentinels before the first boss. Then we started reseting the first 4 sentinels. Killing 3 and then running out. Killed the pats and the sentinels as they respawned. Overall we did this for about 90 mins or so and got 5 Red, 4 yellow, 4 green, 2 blue.

They must have increased the reds drop rate cuz there is no way we got that lucky to have it drop more often than any others.

Farming this now at 80 as a hunter with a gorilla, BM spec with talents for pet tanking. I've gotten about 26 mounts so far yet no reds. I'm clearing the first three patrolling Obsidian Eradicators and then resetting. It's easy to solo them. I beat the instance lockout period every time and have to wait before I can resume farming.

Sigh. I'm still going. I'll update if I get it.

Edit: I changed from SV to BM to be able to solo the raptor boss in ZG. So if you want to spec for soloing, don't forget about him too (drops the raptor mount). I haven't tried AQ as anything but BM as I originally switched for ZG. So, I can't comment if AQ is possible in other trees.

Ya, it is pretty rare, but don't get bogged down. I got it after about 6 rounds of the "Kill starting trash" method. This'll go great with my Pally Tier 2 set! Good Luck all!

Got it on the 5th reset, from the last Sentinel. (in each reset we (protpala+svhunter) killed all the trash till the first boss)
On other repu runs it always dropped before C'thun, so i think you need to kill a fix amount of mob before it can dropp, regardless of the chance.

Disagree about the fixed number thing you mentioned, GD. We got on the first trash pull after first boss, and then 3 mobs later another one dropped. 2% is 2%, no trick to get it. Its just rare.

Perhaps I'm just extremely lucky, but all four mounts dropped for me in one session, about 2 hours total killing just the first pack of Anubisaths and the Obsidian Eradicators. I was on an 80 feral druid specced for cat and in blues with some Pre WotLK tanking epics. You can Armory Calluna on Khadgar to see my point.

Just keep resetting the mobs until you get a pack with no MS'er, and it's easy days.

It's very easy to farm all of the 4 colored mounts without killing any bosses at all. You only need a tank with decent gear at minimum. I've soloed it on my prot warrior who has Naxx10/Naxx25 mixed gear. The mobs on the beginning of the instance respawn fast enough and you can farm those. Having a rogue to pull the boss and vanish speeds up the respawning procedure. It's not 100% confirmed but I've seen it myself. All the mobs respawned the same second that the rogue vanished. But it seems you have to wait a bit for this to happen... Not sure how exactly it works...

There's no point in killing 3 and running out to reset. You don't get saved until you kill the first boss, so you can run in, kill the Eradicator, all 4 Sentinels, then run down the stairs and kill 2 more Eradicators and 4 more Sentinels. I mean honestly, what if the one you left alive was the one that was going to drop it?

100% sure guide how to get it:

I got that mount. There were 30 people in the group and I rolled 100. For information you don't need to use the mount to get the archive,you just need to have it in your inventory.In two runs it dropped twice. But only one time in each. The drop is low but the lower the people the higher the chance to get it. I got all bug mounts except the black one. And I got them in 5 runs. With 20+ people and to say its not hard to get one. Just group up with guild and make it up who will get witch, so you make sure you get one. And if you pug never let the group loot on. I know it takes much to check the rolls but its worth then if you make the rule that you don't roll if you get or got already one mount and its on group loot, then they will need, its always one person. So its quite good and safe way that you make master looter in pug then there is always one that ninjaes it. If you read this carefully you wont have a problem with group to get the mount.

Already killed like 500 of the sentinels and a lot of eradicators, even got one of those 0.1% epic drops from them, but not a red crystal... Yeah, random can be very random and this is sad.

As a Death Knight tank, I can solo all four Anubisath Sentinels and come out at 100% life. Only negative effects is that it takes a while for me to kill them because I'm a tank, and the regrowth buff screws me over. I have to Shadowmeld out of combat and wait for them to reset. As I'm soloing, it's often very hard for me to find somebody willing to be in a raid group because you can't do dailies or quests, so I just find somebody that doesn't mind a two second invite, convert to raid, enter, and then leave the group. It doesn't kick me out and since I never die I can stay in for as long as I like. With Shadowmeld, I don't have to reset to kill the mobs. The Burn Mana buff is also very nice, as I don't have mana.. Heh.

Basically, my strategy is to run in, aggro them, kill three, then shadowmeld. Being a night elf sure has it's advantages.

Just advice, when they get the 'Regrowth' buff, kill the ones without it and then use any way possible to leave combat, because it's much faster just to ditch the one and let the others respawn and then try again then spend ten minutes grinding him down.

Unfortunately, I have really bad luck.. Gotten a few epics to drop, about thirty of each mount type, and still no red.. /cry.

Got all the mounts after only a 30 min farming, including the red one :)
Realy easy as a hunter, just kill the three "gryphons", run out and reset. And then just run in again and kill them.

I was lucky enough too get it on my first solo try. A lvl 80 can easily kill the 2 single pats before the first boss, but my hunter had trouble taking on the three anubis guards. The first time I did it i got yellow from the first pat and red from the second. The second time I got nothing from the first pat and blue from the second pat.

Both has, according to The Armory, 1-2% chance to drop Red Qiraji Resonating Crystal. Therefore, you should in the teory have the mount after ~66.66 kills. which is around 22 resets.(if you kill all 4 on the 22th attempt)

When one dies, the rest will be healed for 46-50k Health (~42%-~45.5%)

I did 18 resets, meaning that i killed 55 Anubisath Destroyers. In this timespan, i had 3 Obsidian Eradicators respawn, meaning that i killed 4 of them, making it 59mobs.
Yellow Qiraji Resonating Crystals Acqiured: 6 - Run 1, 4, 9, and 16 & Obsidian Eradicator Respawn 2 and 3 (~10% dropchance for me)
Blue Qiraji Resonating Crystals Acquired: 3 - Run 3, 7, 13 (~5% dropchance for me)
Green Qiraji Resonating Crystals Acquired: 3 - Run 8, 13, 17 (~5% dropchance for me)
Red Qiraji Resonating Crystals Acquired: 0 (0% dropchance for me)

This is all the available buffs for the Anubisath Sentinels.
On the pull i quickly target all 4 of them, and marking them in the order i'm gonna kill (Skull > Cross > Star) - This goes quick if you have the marks bound.

They are placed in my Ret Pallies killing order.

Fire and Arcane Reflection - Reflects all Fire and Arcane spells & abilities
Shadow and Frost Reflection - Reflects all Shadow and Frost spells & abilities
Periodic Shadow Storm - Casts Shadow Storm every 9 seconds (~500 damage)
Periodic Thunderclap - Casts Thunderclap every 7 seconds
Periodic Knock Away - Casts Knock Away every 13 seconds
Thorns - Causes 475 to 525 Nature damage to attackers.
Periodic Mana Burn - Casts Mana Burn every 11 seconds
Mortal Strike - Casts Mortal Strike every 11 seconds (3000+ Damage)
Mending - Heals 4752 every 3 seconds (1584HPS)

Mending is by far the worst, as you have to do 1584 DPS, which is hard to keep up when you're using your healing 1H/Shield.
The worst combo i have yet to meet is (Mending, Mortalstrike, Manaburn, Thunderclap) - I just ran out and resat
The reflect abilities reflect weapon procs(example), trinkets(example). EVERYTHING in that school

AQ Specific Drops:
2 Clay Scarab

Mining:
Each time an "Anubisath Sentinel" dies, a "Small Obsidian Chunk" will spawn.
Mining it can give you:

Arcane Crystal <- Used for arcanite bars -> Thunderfury

Reputation:
Each mob gives 100 reputation (110 for humans) with Brood of Nozdormu
Since i killed 59 mobs, that gave me 6490 reputation.

Money:
57 Black Stone = 8g 55s
20 Runic Stone = 8g
Mining
84 Small Obsidian Shard = 21g
5 Large Obsidian Shard = 2g 50s
+Random $%^&

That's minimum 40g earned.
My repair was at 52g. That's 12g lost, not considering other drops.

Conclusion:

You farm for a hot "eat of Strength", and it doesn't cost you anything but time.
The mount also count's towards the other mount achievements which, in the end, will reward you with a Blue Dragonhawk Mount(ally) Red Dragonhawk Mount(horde)

I myself, will continue this untill i get my Red tank!
Why? Because it's red!

I just thought I'd mention that if you reset the instance after clearing all the pre-boss trash, all the mobs reappear. You don't need to pull the prophet and vanish to speed up respawns, you don't need to clear three sentinels but not the fourth --- there's no needed "trick" to resetting the spawns. Just clear all the trash, walk out, reset, and walk back in. If you clear ALL the trash before Skeram, which includes 3 eradicators and 8 sentinels, you shouldn't beat the max number of instances per hour timer (especially if you're just doing it with one other person).

Also, I wouldn't recommend soloing the trash, if only for the fact that the regular colors drop like candy and will help your buddies out with their mount achievements. Myself, I went on a resto shaman with a death knight friend. Put up an earth shield and dpsed away! We both got extremely lucky and ended up with all four colors in about an hour of trash farming.

Very easy for resto-shammies to solo... just earthshield, flame shock, and fire nova totem... takes a little while but it works... changing your glyphs to speed up elemental drop rate and flame shock glyphs help, but it's an easy solo. I also solo raptor boss and tiger boss (though make sure you wear hit gear for interrupts on tiger boss.)

I have seen about 50 or 60 mounts so far of the other colors... no red yet... but at least you can keep re-killing them unlike all the other instance rare mount drops that you have to wait for a reset...

Took me 116 kills. I am a demo lock. I killed a mix of the Eradicators and Sentinels, but the mix was heavily skewed towards Eradicators, even though this caused me to run into the "too many raids" warning a few times. I just found it too hard to have my demon hold aggro on all 4 Sentinels, and one with Mortal Strike pretty much meant game over.

If you have a pet, I highly recommend hanging well back while sending in your pet to see what buffs you're up against. If you get a Mortal Strike or another undesirable (Shadow Reflect, *shudder*), hightail it out, and chances are you'll get your Soul Shard back before you ever leave the instance. Even so, I was running mighty low on shards towards the end, so bring plenty, as it could be a long trip. Good luck.

Did this as a 80 ret pally. Killed 14 Obsidian Eradicators dropped 2 blue crystals, 1 green crystal. Killed 285 Anubisath Sentinels dropped 20 yellow crystals, 13 green, 12 blue, and the 1 red. 20% chance to drop at least one of the mounts. Total mounts dropped 49, 299 total kills, total damage done 32,577,313. I was unlucky, hope you get it faster ;)

Got 1 tonight and my friend also got it.
Me-SV hunter full epix pve ToC 25 geared-along with my bear pet plus my drood friend who was a healer for it, went in and started to farm the Santinels as mention above( 3 dead than reset).
1 one dropped after 65-70 kills( i counted the obsidian chunks on the floor ) and second after next try so total is 25 resets plus or minus 2-3 times that i tried different approach and died cause of aggro. Guess we were lucky regardind the above posts which state lower drop chance :).
P.S.- i ALWAYS killed the sentinel with the healing buff/mortal strike first.

Is it possible that the drop rate has been changed for these? I literally saw three drop within 24 hours. I was soloing (with a friend in the 'raid' while in Winterspring) and got two and then later when guildies joined, we had another red drop.

i just thought i would put in a helpful little way to farm these 4 mounts

i did this on my dk and my druid, trust me it works

doing this, i got all 4 mounts in 3 days (3 on one day, didnt go the day after that, went back the next day, got the last one)

get like u and 1 other person, u could solo it, but its just always easier to have like 1 person

anyways, go in, kill the black bird thing first, loot it, roll on a bug if it drops

then go on to the huge 4 dog people things, kill them, make sure u loot them all, get the bugs, then kill the next to 2 black bird things, loot em, move on

then kill the 2nd group of big dog people, loot em all, get the bugs

and then heres what u do

after u have looted all the dudes from the mobs u just killed

run out of the instance

reset all instances

no, a lot of u may be thinking, "well, u cant reset a raid", well, actually, u can!

as long as u dont get saved to the raid

if u DONT kill any bosses, u can just keep doing this forever until u get all the mounts

go in > kill mobs > stop > dont even touch the first boss > run out of instance > reset all instances > go back in > rinse and repeat

Not sure if they did officially change drop rate on these, but I was solo'ing the trash before prophet. Did 3 resets by myself, got 1 yellow and 2 blue mounts from those 3 resets. Then, had 2 guildies join me for my 4th reset. On 4th reset, I saw green and red drop. I was sad because I lost red roll, but won green. Then on 5th reset, we saw 1 yellow and 2 reds. So in 5 trash resets I saw the following:

2 yellow mounts
2 blue mounts
1 green mount
3 red mounts

I hope you have as much luck as I did, it still is feat of strength so I am assuming this is still a low drop rate, but definitely not as hard to farm as barons mount.

Soloing as a prot warrior, a trick I found to make it much faster was to kill 3 of them all at the same time with a shockwave.
To do thi, get three of them to about 20k then carefully work each of those down to about 3k. if you get it right, they all die together so you dont have to burn through their heal again.

Easy to farm solo as a feral druid.
Stayed in bearform the entire time, almost never dropped below 80 % health, did it in tanking spec but in dps gear. Have mostly ToC 25-Man gear but think it is doable with lower tier gear since the mobs are only lvl 60.

Asked a guildmate to help me get into a raidgroup with one of my own alts so I could grind away without any problems.
After killing the first pat mob I pulled the four Anubisath Sentinel's and pretty quickly I found out that their debuffs didn't matter except the healing buff, just always ignore that mob.
Took them down one by one with mangle, maul, lacerate, faerie fire and swipe on a free gcd. When there was one left I simply shadowmelded (being a nelf) and the last one resetted, and all four spawned back up again.
Found a bug after a short while, when I shadowmelded and the mob started to reset I simply started running towards it and it attacked me again, the other three joined as they spawned. The first one never got a buff, and thus never healed the other ones when it died making the whole grinding faster.

On average it took from 1:30 min to 2:00 min to kill 3 mobs. Got the red crystal after about 2 hours and 10 min of grinding.

As a mage, I decided to kill the patrolling Obsidian Eradicators, since fighting the four sentinels would be too difficult for a squishy. Had to spec as frost and use mirrors, though. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to get the red one on my very first kill! I was floored x_x..after a few resets, I had a paladin healer friend come in, and we killed the sentinels with little difficulty. We both left with 4, and 3. A red one never dropped again.

Retribution paladin with no progression gear (only emblem gear) clears the trash without problems. It can get close if you get a unlucky combination of buffs on the big ones. This can be farmed easily by just doing the trash before the first boss and then reset it. Remember to ask guildies/friends who are around the 60s (some xp, if you are lucky a nice green+useless mounts) or are skilling mining (the obisdian ore "dropped" by the trash give skill pretty long time). Just tell them to stay behind and survive.
I recently tried it with 3 guildies (all 80, prot warrior, mage, priest, wanted the mounts) it goes a bit faster and a lot smoother (you don't need to watch your health for self heal if you take a healer with you). After 3 resets everyone had every common mount (at least one time...) but I still need to farm trash a bit for the red one.

This is what I do to farm th em, get in, kill the first patrol, and 3/4 of the 1st group of trash, loot them, get out, then get back in, and the group will reset as long as you don't kill the 4th, in that way, you wont have to "reset" the instance :)

For weaker classes/geared players, killing 1 or 2 is ok too :)

You can even loot them after getting out and coming back in if you like :)

Just went in came back from a short trip in AQ40 farming the trash before first boss. I went as a resto shaman with a fury warrior friend of mine. We did three runs, used not much more than a few minutes each time. On our third run we both got ourselves a new Red Qiraj Battle Tank each :)

Remember not to use a Qiraji Battle Tank to ride through the gauntlet in AQ40. You will still be dismounted by any damage.

As a hunter i went BM and a gorilla pet - Both lvl 80.

I cleared trash all the way to 1st boss once then i reseted and went in again and it dropped on the first set of 4 mobs- it took me prob 10min to get the red tank mount *luckyyyyyy* seeing you guys take hours and hours of farming.

- the winged patrols and the 2 sets of 4 mobs.. Very easy - when they go in a frenzy you just tranq shot them and buff goes away. Plus if you have a gorilla with full tank spec he'll heal himself plus your mending pet glyph etc etc.. piece of cake your pet wont ever DIE ever.

The mobs heal themselves but at lvl 80 that wont really do anything you can easily burn them down like nothing happened one by one.. I tried dps one by one and getting them all down to about 20k but they would heal little by little.. its better to just target one and kill it then next mob.. and rinse and repeat.

Just incase anyone is considering attempting these mounts but think it may be too difficult, it is REALLY easy, I was doing it on my blood DK with 5.3k gearscore in my DPS gear and spec and I only died once out of about 200 kills (And even then it was because I pulled the single mob and the sentinels)

If you can solo the Bloodlord in Zul'Gurub, you are more than qualifyed to farm for these mounts.

It may take a few attempts though, once you get it down in what order you should kill them depending on their skills you can smash your face on your keyboard and still farm these mounts.

A note on droprates...

When looking at the drop chance, you need to account for statistical dropchance, not just face value. 1% doesn't mean you will get one in 100 kills no matter what, it means each kill has a 1% chance of dropping the mount/rare thing you are looking for.

To calculate this, we instead look at the chances of the item NOT dropping in so many consecutive times.

(chance of not seeing item)^(amount of runs) = Chance to NOT see the item drop
Chance to see item drop = 1 - (chance of not seeing item)^(amount of runs)

This is the equation that must be used to calculate your ACTUAL drop chance

For say a 1% droprate, the chances of not getting a drop is 0.99. If you run it 100 times, you get the following:

Chance to drop = 1 - (.99)^100
Chance to drop = .634 = 63.4%
To ensure a 75% chance of drop, you need 138 kills, a 95% drop, 298, and a 99% 458kills are required.

Yes this definitely isn't what you want to hear, but it's the truth. Some of us will get lucky and see it within a day. Others will farm for months and still never see it. Such is the case with random chance.

I thought I'd post my actual results from the mobinfo add on.

It took me about three hours to do 92 kills (then I got tired). (Pulling and resting guards at entrance)

Yellow Crystal: 6
Green Crystal: 5

Red Crystal: 0, zilch, nada.

It makes me appreciate the fact that my alt has the red one and got it moons ago on his virgin run through AQ40.

As a Mutilate rogue it's nearly impossible to kill all 3... however its possible as Combat.
I usualy have 400/24442 of my hp when i Vanish after i killed the 3rd, i wait for arush bf ks and evasion every pull. I usually rest if i have less than 50% after mob 2 and I'm out of cds.

Also on MS/TC/Thorns/Heal i only kill 1-2 this is by far the worst you can get... ms hits for 8-9k and autos for 1-2

Similar experience to Onenightstab. Was with a group doing a full clear (about 20 of us). Loads of yellow and blue ones dropped (at the end of the raid, everyone was passing on them). 5 red ones dropped altogether but only a couple of green ones. Possibly a coincidence but would be interested in hearing other's experiences.

Went in there with a friend. Saw all 4 mounts drop in about 45 minutes. We killed the first four guys and reseted 4 times, and then killed all the trash up to the first boss.

For priests soloing, this is a pita after you've used up your resets soloing the 3 pats.

What I'm currently doing is attacking while I wait is stacking the 3 dots on the first Anubisath Sentinel on the right, toss shadowfiend on him, and burn him down. The other 3 attack the shadowfiend while you finish off the first guy. Then pop dispersion and run out. Come back in, loot, wait on CD, repeat.

I know this is boring, but it's one way to be productive while waiting on the reset timers!

Did this for the first time a couple weeks ago or so, and had never been in AQ prior... Went through a long stretch where crystals were dropping like candy from a piñata...we all just hit greed for all of them, and I ended up getting a 100 on the red one (not knowing how rare it was or about the achievement)...ended up with a red and a yellow...got the blue a couple days ago...would have had all four, but I gave the green one I got to the guy in our group who had no crystals at the time...

Soloed this like 100 times without drop, went with a guildie (now on ignore list) and it dropped, he won ofcourse cause the game hates me. He goes afk for 20 mins and then says cya and logs off. Same exact thing happen with Phoenix pet, though the other guildie was nice and gave me 500g. Now i have soloed it 100 times more and no drop FML

Something I thought I would add, since it seems a couple people I've talked to are misinformed.

The Anubisaths heal a large portion of their max health when a packmate dies, but they DON'T heal to full. You CAN use AOE to wear them down faster, provided that your AOE is capable of doing enough damage to make it worthwhile.

For instance, on my feral druid popping Berserk and spamming mangle gets 3 of them down to around 25% when one dies; this makes the next two kills much faster than starting at 100% even after they heal. Because you only want to kill 3 and either run out or, if a NE, shadowmeld, it doesn't matter that you never damage the 4th.

Been farming this for a while now and I've learned a few tricks to help speed up the process. There are several ways to go about farming this. I started with the basic kill order method, which as a prot pally goes something like:

spell reflects>shadowstorm=thunderclap>thorns>knockback>mortal strike>mana burn>mending

You can pretty much follow any kill order you want in current gear, so long as you leave mana burn and mending for last. Mana burn won't be much of an issue for non-mana issues obviously, but it's quite the nuisance if you are. I actually found that it was better to just reset if you got a mob with mending, as the time it took to burn it down was not worth the effort. Following this kill order, I would kill the 4 Sentinels and the Eradicator, loot, and walk out and reset. However, with it taking only 5 minutes or so to complete this process, I started running into the "too many instances per hour" problem.

So, I started using the method described by another user to reset the mobs without leaving the instance. To do this, kill off the mobs until you have your one "undesirable" sentinel left standing, then head to the instance portal and jump on the smaller, rectangular rock to the right of the portal (as you are facing it). If you position yourself so that you are as far away from the sentinel while still on the rock, he will reset after 10 seconds or so. This way, you can reset the first pack of sentinels without having to leave this instance or use shadowmeld or some other type of aggro-dropping ability.

Interestingly, I noticed that the mob which you reset loses its buffs once it resets. As the sentinel is walking back to its original position, it has no buffs and does not gain any buffs upon being aggro'd, however if it reaches its original position, it will function normally. Thus, If you are quick enough to re-aggro the mob by jumping off the rock before it resets completely, you can add a "free" sentinel to your group. This sentinel has no buffs to pass to the other mobs when he dies, so it should be killed first. After using this method for a while, I also noticed that the "free" sentinel does not heal his allies once he dies, unlike the other sentinels.

This leads to the strategy of pulling all four sentinels and performing the rock-reset method. If you can re-aggro all the mobs before they reset, you will have a group of four sentinels without buffs, who cannot heal each other upon dying. With this strategy, you can burn through the mobs much quicker than you would be able to normally, and greatly increase your farm speed. I have also tried this reset method on all 8 sentinels that can be found before the boss, however I found it difficult to keep all 8 of the mobs on me after resetting them, but it would certainly be faster if you could perform this reliably.

I would encourage all people interested in farming the mounts to attempt some of the methods outlined here to see which works best for them. If anyone finds an even more efficient way to farm, I would love to hear it. ~200 kills with no mount is getting old.

After 200 kills, I got it to drop. Then I decided to try to solo the first boss, just for fun, and another one drops on the way.
Also, I can't mount on it or any other scarab mount, even inside AQ...

I find aoeing as an ele sham to be decent, however with fire immunity I pity the mage... Anyway I've been clearing about 10 times. No red yet. However, I think aoeing constantly isnt a good idea, even icc geared I can oom with my aoes. And if they barely scrape um, not worth it. Otherwise farming front trash is your best bet. With the new 'too many instances' its crap though.
edit: Right after posting, my 11th reset, it dropped. SOOO keep on! I mean people said it never would... well looky there.

Here are some tips for getting the mount and quick facts.
Drops from trash mobs in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (AKA AQ40).
Awards a feat of strength for obtaining.
The slimmest drop chance of the four colors (approximately 1.39% average across all mobs that can drop it).
Can only be used in Temple of Ahn'Qiraj.
Dismounts the rider with any hostile action towards the rider (even falling damage).
Increases speed by 100%.
Only requires riding skill 75 (despite it's 100% speed increase).

My strategy of choice for obtaining this mount:
1: Get a group, as small as possible, but good enough to clear the trash up to first boss quickly.
2: Enter the instance and kill the 10 mobs leading up to first boss (having 10 mobs per run, it should take you approximately 9 runs to have it drop once, without any luck).
3. Go outside the instance and reset, repeat steps 2-3 until you get your mount.

Other mount drop chances (average across all mobs that have any chance at all to drop them):
Yellow-12.15%
Green-11.62%
Blue-10.64%

I got to admit, this mount is really hard to get. I have been doing many AQ 40 raids and I never got it. The weird thing is now on my Worgen DK I got this mount near the first boss. Guess my luck is better on the alliance side ;)

This caught me by complete surprise when it dropped for me today from a Anubisath Defender. I was just in there to tame princess and get some rep. After a couple of years of casually trying to get it, it was a nice surprise and even nicer since it was a solo run so it was all mine xD . The other mounts still drop like rain (constantly.)

EDIT: This mount is still dropping for me, always in the same area which is the last room before the twins, where the Defenders are patrolling. As a lvl85 hunter you can solo up to this part being a BM and using your spirit beast to fight the first boss while you FD behind a pillar (many youtube clips on this method.)

Hopefully one day we get to use it outside of the instance.

Me and two of my guildies (85 dk and 85 pally) decided to run aq out of boredom and the red one dropped on third trash mob. The dk managed to win it and ever since then i have been farming to get it with no luck yet. Thinking bout giving up after 3 weeks of farming aq with nothing but a crap ton of epics and about 5 of those "ancient qiraji artifacts" dropping.

Needless to say I was shocked...

Fairly easy to solo the instance as a level 85 Death Knight though, so people trying to farm it should be able to pretty simply now.

I used the strategy of killing the first 3 mobs in AQ40 and leaving the 4th, enter/exit the instance.

Easily farmable. I got mine within 10 minutes, but I was probably slightly lucky. Basically, go in, kill everything up to and around the first boss. Leave, reset, repeat. Thats 11 kills every reset, meaning you can get 55 kills an hour, by yourself. Soloing them is extremely easy for anyone at 85. Even if you have to do it two or three times, you're almost sure to see it by then.

When you first zone in to AQ40, you see four mobs plus the pat mana-drain mob thing, right? Kill the mana drain that respawns every 45mins i think but the point is, those four mobs, kill three and leave instance. BAM! All four are back again as the group must die all or it's a full respawn back when groups wiped on it. =D Much easier way to farm the mount, no need to reset instances and get locked, kill 3 out of 4 run out then run it. Good luck farming.

Got this the first mob on the first time i ever farmed it. Had 48 mounts and was trying to get two more, so i went with a 79 fury warrior and myself, a 76 prot pally. We just killed the first Obsidian Eradicator and it dropped.. haha.

Finally got this little bugger (no pun intended) after 4 tries. Just ran in, killed the mobs, ran back out, and reset. Didn't kill the first boss. I got the blue crystal the first time, the green and yellow the second time, nothing the third time, and red the 4th time :) keep at it!

I did like 5-6 solo runs of this, and at last, from the last anubisath defender but one it dropped.

Doing it solo as a warrior, I cannot beat the twins and thought it would've been impossible to get it before them.

Anyway, just before them, it dropped; it's really good to have another feat of strength.

By the way, I could've killed like 300-400 mobs before getting this, so not the best drop rate.

Those first 4 add (and pack before 1st boss) will not conitnue to respawn if you kill the 1st boss.

Got tired farming them (vanish on rogue works fine saving having to run out).
Could pull 1 grp kill 3, mark 4th then go pull kill other grp leaving 1 then vanish.

However in the same solo run (first farming run in ages) I moved on through and it dropped just before Princess.

Used vanish to skip 1 boss > Fankriss the Unyielding who is rather annoying. Others I killed on the way.

Random luck is random is right. I went farming for these at 70 and couldnt do it so I went at 80 with ilvl of 216 and it droped within the 10th kill. I got the Feat of Strength and the other 3 colored tanks. I am a Elemental Shaman, I just killed the first 3 pats ignoring the sentinals and left the raid to reset. Easy, but your gonna need a little luck. Its a shame you cant use these outside of the raid, they look so great!

I've been running AQ40 on my lvl 85 rogue (as sub no less) killing evrything up to the Twins for about a month now (4x's). Today I had this mount drop on the very last mob before the Twins room, the last of the Anubisath Defender.

I didn't realize there is a Feat of Strength achievement for getting this: Why? Because It's Red

Grinded myself exalted. No red. Farmed the entrance with a friend for couple hours. No red. Got myself Rarity addon to track kills, went solo this time, now at 501 mobs killed. No red. If you wonder probabilities, 501 kills has 99.35% odds of dropping a red. Not enough for me it seems.

Back to farming. Btw, full clear on AQ40 had only 55 mobs capable of dropping a red.

edit: 595th kill did the trick finally. Farmed the first pack of 4 at the beginning of the instance.

If you are running AQ40 a lot and looting all the items and hate taking all the time to delete the mounts (you have to type delete out and everything), here is a macro that will delete all four types of mounts (one per click I believe):

/run for b=0,4 do for s=1,GetContainerNumSlots(b) do local i = GetContainerItemID(b,s) if i==21218 or i==21321 or i==21323 or i==21324 then PickupContainerItem(b,s) DeleteCursorItem() end end end

If you're hunting the red one, remove the "or i==21321 " (or just learn it immediately before hitting the macro :p).

For those looking to get the mounts:-

1.) Form a Raid with a friend or, as I did, .....
2.) Finish a Tol Barad BG, hearth to SW, portal to Uldum & fly to AQ (usually someone will be d/c or not left Raid.)
3.) Enter Temple of AQ.
4.) Kill Obsidian Eradicator and the Anubisath Sentinals by the entrance.
5.) Leave instance.
6.) Reset instance.
7.) Repeat x 5

Drops:-

- 6 Yellow Qiraji Resonating Crystal
- 2 Green Qiraji Resonating Crystal
- 2 Blue Qiraji Resonating Crystal
- 2 Greens
- Lesser Eternal Essense
- Illusion Dust
- Ivory Scarab
- 7 Black Stone

All in, this took about 20 minutes, 3 mounts for Filling Up The Barn achievement but no Red Qiraji Resonating Crystal on this run. Next time!

But there is allso a mount that is no longer obtain able and that is the Cristal Ressonante Qiraji Preto, this mount was obtained by doing a long and very difficult quest chain in Classic WoW that allso opend the gates of the Ahn'Qiraj and Ruínas de Ahn'Qiraj
To come through this quest chain you had to do 40 player raids and be lucky to win the loot, for the final quest Bang a Gong! that you could do within 10h on each realm after the first one to complete the quests you received the Cristal Ressonante Qiraji Preto and the title ''Scarab Lord <Name>''.
This mount can be summoned out side Ahn'Qiraj and if you would ever come to face any one with the title ''Scarab Lord <Name>'' or the Cristal Ressonante Qiraji Preto you are facing a powerfull individual.
This is the only legendary mount that players can get a hold on, the other mount is Apito do Piu-piu and is a GM mount but is the same model as Cinzas de Al'ar

I farmed the first 4 mobs on my rogue (3 of them, thanks to the comments) for about 2 hours, maybe a little more.
I don't know how many resets I did exactly, also took a few minutes break, but I tried to do 3 runs per vanish - run out 2x, vanish 1x, so I was close to 3 mobs per minute.
I don't know how many other mounts I deleted or greens disenchanted but as an indication I got the following grey vendor trash:
181 x black stone
67 x runic stone
1x epic: Neretzek, the blood drinker - 2h axe.
1x Ancient Qiraji Artifact.

I know it can be a long frind but truth is, if you want the feat of strength, or the 100 mount achievement, it is worth it.

Went in as an 85 ret paladin and killed the first set of sentinels and the eradicator, then the second set of those before the the Prophet. First loot click on the second set of mobs got me my red crystal on the first zone in so it is possible to get the red mount damn near a step through the door.

Did AQ40 with a friend last week and this dropped two times in one pull. However, I was not able of looting it due to me being too far away from the mobs when they died :( (My friend killed them while I was being disconnected).

Although this is purely anecdotal from my point of view, considering the last two comments it seems very likely that the drop rate for this has been dramatically increased. Over the course of a full clear last week, most of which skipped all skippable trash, my partner and I saw a total of nine of these drop. I'd been soloing up to Twin Emps on a weekly basis before Mists and had never seen one. Still, it's possible we were just ridiculously lucky; take it with a grain of salt.

There is NO QUESTION the drop rate on this has been insanely increased, though I don't know if it was intentional or an error made when adding the new pets to the instance. In just the first set of trash mobs I had THREE of these drop. I've uploaded a photo where you can see I have one in my inventory AND have a window open to loot a mob where another one appears. This would NEVER have happened before. People spent years farming this!

I used to think 1 Red Qiraj dropped in every raid.

IThat was my experience when I was running the rain pre 5.04

I have now run the raid twice with a friend to help them get mounts and rep.
We killed everything.
No Red Qiraj in either of those raids

I'm not sure the statistics behind this, but I went in with a guild-mate that had never been here. He managed to get all four mounts in his first run! I felt happy getting the red. Pretty cool mounts, but too bad you cannot use them outside of this instance!

It's kind of funny. I look through all these comments of people who have ran this instance hundreds of times and never seen this mount drop. EVERYTIME I run this raid I see this mount drop, almost every time on the first mob that you encounter. It's a shame they are soulbound, otherwise I would make a killing in the Auction House. :D

First time in this dungeon in hopes of getting the mount. First MOB killed... bam... dropped a blue one. Next group got a yellow, then 4 more blues. (no red yet) I'd say the drop rates overall have increased. http://royrivers.com/temp/mount.jpg

I just soloed this raid, and i had the luck of getting one off of the adds just before the Bug Trio, and then i continued on, got to the Anubisath Defenders just before the Twin Emperors, and with my stupid luck, 2 dropped, and in the adds a few rooms after the Twin emperors, another.. Too bad i am unable to share the extras with friends outside of the raid. Maybe if there was the option to sell the unneeded tanks to the vendor, like the normal ones for like 10g each and the red one for 75-100g.

Cleared trash at the door, run out reset.

2nd run the Yellow dropped
3rd run the Blue, Green and Red all dropped from the 5 mobs I killed..

Got mine from the trash right before first boss. (I actually Killed the first boss then thought, "Hmm I guess I can kill these guys to might as well." I had no hopes for this after so many runs >.>

I got all 4 within about 1 minute just redoing the first 3 mobs and leaving the last up to reset. There's no way these dont have a high drop rate now, imo.

Got 2 of them to drop from trash. a lot of blue/green/yellow drops as well. super easy 4 mounts to get.

Dropped for me today, i had been farming the starting trash just before the first boss and the blue,green and yellow dropped constantly each time but not the red... got tired and decided to complete the entire dungeon and got the drop from the anubis just before twin emps.

Dropped for me today so it is possible to get it.

I did about 8 runs on lvl 100 char.

Definetly red one has the lowest drop rate. Yellow, green and blue mounts you can easily get in 1-2 runs.

I suggest doing it with frost mage so you can also get an easy pet from Viscidus and when you clear Emperor bosses you will also get Anubisath idol pet. In my opinion one of the best there are.

Before the entrance there are also 6 pets running around, so you can capture them easily.

One full run takes about 15 min. Do not forget to use mounts inside :)

I have all AQ bug mounts except for this one, and ive been running this raid since 2015. wtf?

The best method of farming this mount and the others is to simply enter the instance and kill the first 2 groups of trash up to the first boss. Don't engage the boss, run out and reset.

The drop rate on these seems to have been massively increased from what I remember back in the day. I only came because I never got the red one, but got it on my 4th clear of the first 2 groups, for an idea on how common these are now:

First: 2 Yellow + 1 Blue
Second: 2 Green + 1 Yellow
Third: 2 Green + 1 Blue
Fourth: 1 Blue + 1 Red

OK, now that's just wrong. I spent three years running this thing over and over trying to get this to drop. Today, while farming something else (I'd at this point given up) it drops for me twice in the same run.

I just wanna remind everyone, that there's both an Ahn'Qiraj Temple and an Ahn'Qiraj Ruin...
Don't be an idiot like me, wasting like an hour on running into Ruin. It's in Temple. xD
