If you're really lucky, you can find this on the AH for almost nothing, 'cause some people mistake it for a normal parrot.
Which, of course, is very nice for us pet-collectors :)

With the new Pet Battles on the horizon, it will be interesting to see what this bird will do. Being one of the rarest pets currently live, hopefully we can expect a little something extra.

Had this one drop yesterday, while kiling every gorilla I could find on Jaguero Island, from a bonobo, bit later the rain started and got rare Baby Ape, succesful morning indeed.

Compared to my other lvl 1 battle pets, it appeared my H. Macaw had superior stats, did it's rarity (epic) translate to Battle Pet rarity?

Battle Information

1st Slot: Slicing Wind (1) / (10) Thrash
The opponent's type should determine which of these two abilities you should use. If type is irrelevant, then Slicing Wind is better because it has a chance to strike 3 times for the same amount of damage as Thrash.
2nd Slot: Hawk Eye (2) / (15) Adrenaline Rush
Adrenaline Rush seems to be a better option, because it deals static damage and provides a more beneficial stat, despite lasting 1 less round.
3rd Slot: Lift-Off (4) / (20) Cyclone
Lift-Off is a much better upfront offensive ability. Cyclone only has a 35% chance to strike the enemy team, and if a strong attack is expected from your opponent, you can time Lift-Off to allow your pet to avoid damage altogether.

Notes: It's only breed being 3, the Hyacinth Macaw is not a specialist pet and therefore quite run of the mill as far as competitive pets go. Beyond battling however, it can still be worth leveling for the prestige and reputation of the pet itself.

Level and Quality aren't the only factors that determines a Battle Pets stats. One of the reasons many Wowhead users are posting inconsistent stats for a given level or quality is because pets can also come in a number of different breeds.

The following table will display relevant statistics at level 25 for each breed of this pet.

To determine what breed your pet is, you can use the Pet Breed IDs addon. It will display the Breed ID of enemy pets when a battle starts in the chatbox. Or, if you want to find the Breed of a pet you have already caught, put the pet in your first battle slot, then type /breedid.

Breeds 4/14, 5/15 and 6/16 are the best breeds which have the maximum of 2 points spread focused in one of the three stats (Health, Power and Speed). 7/17, 8/18 and 9/19 are the second best with a total of 1.8 points spread across two stats, while 10/20, 11/21 and 12/22 have 1.7 total points with a minor focus in one stat. 3/13 is the worst breed with 1.5 total points spread evenly across all three stats. Poor quality pets are not included in this table, mostly due to space restriction but also because there is no point in leveling a poor quality pet to 25.

Got it for 10k off the battle pets section. Lotta people dont realize its the same one thats an epic item under misc tab. Normal price is like 20k+

Gonna level it up, yes it wont be incredibly competitive, but hes not horrible either. Named mine "manydeadpirates".

Remember he has "street cred" as it were among us pet collectors. That nets him a lot of points despite his less than steller move list.

If your going to complain about his move list, remember the moonkin hatchling movelist. It is terrible, does not work together at all. They could have had a moonkin feel set of moves that worked much better together, but opted for that sack of fail.

Also I am fairly certain that the noises it makes, when compared to other parrot type birds are unique. Could just be imagining it though.

Like many of the battle pets in World of Warcraft this pet shares a moveset with similar birds. There are in fact 17 pets that share the same six moves in three different permutations.

The Imperial Eagle Chick, Rustberg Gull, Sandy Petrel, Sea Gull, Tickbird Hatchling, and White Tickbird Hatchling all have the following moveset.

The next set of birds is Blue Mini Jouster, Cockatiel, Dragonbone Hatchling, Fledgling Buzzard, Gold Mini Jouster, Green Wing Macaw, Hyacinth Macaw, Parrot, Polly, and Senegal. These ten keep the same six moves but rearrange the second, third and sixth. One major difference with this moveset is that it places your two big cooldown abilities on the same option.

Finally, the Jade Owl shares the same six moves in yet a third arrangement. This moveset swaps the second, third, fifth, and sixth moves from the first set. Essentially leaving you with the same moveset as the second. The only difference is of course in the leveling process as to which moves you have access to first. Once you have all six moves unlocked at 20 they are for all intents and purposes the same. The major difference here is that the Jade Owl is a magic pet.

If you are looking for this pet, simply jump out into stranglethorn and kill! It has a small drop chance from any mob in Stranglethorn Vale, northern and the Cape. Its drop rate is about 1 in 1000, so expect to have a grind ahead of you, though if you do find it, it is a great pet!

Just a note that this still drops as of 7.3.5. I was doing The Bane of Many a Pirate on my Level 41 warrior and had to gather bushels of lime. The first bushel I grabbed, a lime thief spawned. After disposing of her, I saw a purple something drop into my bags. *Happiness!*
