No Patch Tomorrow, Rolling Restarts Instead
Looks like RSS feed leaks have deceived us!
Despite our
last post
, it looks like patch 4.0.6 is
not
coming next week—there will be a batch of rolling restarts instead. See the blue post below:
We will be performing rolling restarts for our weekly maintenance on Tuesday, February 1st, beginning at 05:00 AM PST. Downtime for each realm is expected to be minimal, and the overall process should conclude at approximately 06:00 AM PST.
Thank you for your patience.

Patch 4.0.6 Coming Next Week?
MAYBE.
An interesting blog showed up in our RSS readers and (for a brief moment) on the official World of Warcraft website. This placeholder blog post, which obviously wasn't supposed to go live (oops), features none other than the Patch 4.0.6 Official Notes! Blizzard are obviously getting ready to post these official patch notes - does this mean the patch is coming next week? Hopefully!
(Thanks Civrock!)

PTR Patch 4.0.6 Notes Updated (1/28)
Just a quick batch of Friday night PTR patch notes updates! Notable changes include:
Tol Barad
Attacking forces will receive a 200% capture speed bonus when they control 2 keeps.
Defending forces will receive a 200% capture speed bonus when they control all 3 keeps.
Normal PvE helms (item level 359) no longer have a chance to drop from Nefarian or Cho'gall on Heroic difficulty. Instead, the Heroic PvE helm and shoulder pieces (item level 372) only require their associated Crown/Shoulders of the Forlorn tokens to purchase, and do not require players to obtain the normal helms or shoulders first.
As always, you can find the full patch notes right here on Wowhead!

BFF Report - RIFT - It Has PvP.. Just like WoW!!
If you've ever been in an MMO beta, you know that everyone in it is terrible at PvP. It's not that the terrible players from current games are looking for a new MMO (although it seems like it at times), it's that players are simply testing out different facets of gameplay.
"Oh look, I can kill people!"
*keyboard turns*
*clicks auto-attack*
*holds S until passes out*
It's the equivalent of someone grabbing the flag, running out the tunnel, making a 90 degree left and going right up the ramp. THIS IS EVERY GAME IVE PLAYED.
So, consider this a PSA for
non-PvP'ers
who are looking into getting into RIFT..

We're kicking off a Core Hound Pup adoption campaign and we need your help! Simply send us funny, cute, or just plain epic screenshots featuring your fiery two-headed buddy. We'll be picking two of the most memorable images each month in 2011 and awarding the winners with a brand new iPad.

Latest Cataclysm Hotfixes (Jan 19-26)
Latest Cataclysm hotfixes have been posted!
Notable hotfixes include:
Heroic set tokens have been moved to earlier bosses on 25-player Heroic difficulty (chest from Halfus, legs from Maloriak, gloves from Magmaw, helm from Nefarian, shoulder from Cho'gall).
Tokens for normal versions of the helm and shoulder set pieces (item level 359) now drop from Nefarian and Cho'gall on Heroic difficulty, as they are required to purchase the Heroic helm and shoulder pieces (item level 372). An additional change to this functionality is slated for patch 4.0.6.
Horde players now correctly gain 75 Bilgewater reputation as well when completing the Lunar Festival elder quests as part of the Horde reputation gain.

News Roundup: Archaeology Grind and Cross-Realm Heirlooms
Another quiet day, just a few quick Blue posts worth sharing!
...on the Archaeology "Grind"
Yes, I know this is a secondary profession, but the RNG involved is absolutely atrocious. After crafting my 5th "Delicate Music Box" and still getting numerous Fossil sites, even after having solved all of them, I am wondering what on earth Blizzard was thinking with this profession.
If you want to grind it out, it's going to be a grind. While the RNG of the tradeskill is sort of what makes it what it is there are some changes being thought of that could ease some of the more painful aspects. Maybe getting a common won't be a total bummer, but a fractional-bummer, and maybe even just a 'dang'.
...on Cross-Realm Heirlooms
There was a blue post on this a long time ago saying it was something they were looking to implement, Then Cata was heralded and it got put on the backburner I presume so nothing has

Gamers Documentary Reviewed
A while back I was fortunate enough to get in touch with the team responsible for a film I had caught on the
Documentary Channel
titled
Gamers
, which gives an introspective look at the phenomenon of massively-multiplayer online games, specifically World of Warcraft. I got in touch with their team and they sent me a copy of their documentary to check out, and I thought I'd share my opinions with you guys. The filmmaker, Ben Gonyo, interviewed a variety of World of Warcraft players just like you and I for insight into their world and playing habits. It was a pretty interesting look at the subculture we've grown so accustomed to, and many subjects common to seasoned players were addressed, such as finding a guild and the dedication and requirements of being in one.
Check out my own view on the film as well as a video clip after the break!

PTR Patch Changes and Additions - Artifact Sell Prices Changed, Again
Today's PTR patch brought only a few class changes, mostly those which were
added to the official patch notes
yesterday. We have the latest spell diffs as well as
updated
values for artifacts in patch 4.0.6! As it was stated in the patch notes:
The sell value of all common artifacts has been doubled, while a small subset of common artifacts have had their sell value increased far beyond that.
This excited many players who were put off by the fact that most
Archaeology
artifacts are currently (basically) worthless. In this latest PTR patch, Blizzard has changed the sell price of many artifacts (yet again), increasing most common artifacts to values well over ! It's also worth mentioning, however, that the
Word of Empress Zoe
(which had many players excited over its previously reported sell value) has had its sell value reduced to . Oh, well.
We've got the latest spell diffs for you guys, as well as

PTR Patch 4.0.6 Notes Updated! JP From Level 85 Normals and more!
The PTR Patch 4.0.6 notes have been updated yet again, with some
major
changes!
Level-85 dungeon bosses in
Lost City of the Tol'vir
,
Grim Batol
, and
Halls of Origination
now drop
0
Justice Points
Justice Points
each when killed.
The daily Random Dungeon reward on normal difficulty has been increased to
0
Justice Points
Justice Points
, up from 0
Justice Points
.
Players no longer need to discover Cataclysm dungeon entrances in order to access them via the Dungeon Finder.
These changes will probably cause a lot of "omg catering to casuals lol" forum rage, but for those of us who
like
conveniences rather than feeling as though we constantly need to be challenged (such as by having to fly ALL THE WAY to a dungeon entrance to "discover it"), they're definitely welcome changes! Yeah, I get it, it makes things easier but c'mon, get real - it wasn't exactly some huge challenge or marvelous feat in the first place. I haven't even wanted to level my warrior (for whom I wanted to use the Dungeon Finder to victory) just because I don't feel like going to discover al

It's worth mentioning that due to the Cataclysm, some Elder locations have been changed! Most Elders locations have changed only slightly, as they remain in the same general area - it's just that the general area itself may have moved!
