I wonder how it would be if they made the spec fully mobile, a la BM Hunter. It sounds strong on paper, but with the limited range, it could be exactly what Preservation needs to shine.
I think, if they are set at limiting Evoker to 30 yards, Evoker should out-heal every other healer in that area, outside of HPally getting max value from their mastery.
They will have to eventually ditch the range limitation. There is no way to balance the downside. They'd have to make them stronger than other healers, and if they do then all the other healer specs get ditched.
I can see the future: Blizz will keep it at 30 until release, then buff to 35 yards in 10.0.5 after they get data showing very low raid representation. They will buff to 40 yards in a week or two into 10.1 when they see the numbers haven't changed for the new raid. Evoker will then be giga-overtuned for the rest of dragonflight season 2, and if we're lucky the nerfs that dragonflight season 3 gives them will put them in a good place for a patch or two before 11.0 rolls the dice again.
Its like with covenants - do we really need to go through with changes so slow? just make it 40/45 yards to match all other healers already.
Definitely looks like Blizzard needs to abandon this nonsense idea with low range.
Of course you'd keep trying to make a push to 40yrds.... why am i not surprised..Aside from that there are some actual good points i agree with.
When you’re healing, there is already so much to think about. They might be able to carve out a niche for Evokers on paper, but in practice I suspect it will be unwieldy to play and just frustrating. Requiring extra effort to do what other healers to do quite easily, for limited payoff. There are already mobile healers in the game with full spell range. A lot of their kit seems quite basic as well, so you aren’t actually gaining any advantages that I can see. So far I am unimpressed.
I don't know if I'm getting the right idea here but I think it could be a massive improvement if Evokers simply could cast everything while moving except big CDs. As Devastation it's a similar issue. If it hits it's absolutely amazing and it looks cool af. But for this to be seen it has to hit. You knoiw what I mean? And with something like "Hover" as a passive alltime active ability (kind of) this class could become very enjoyable (if it's balanced right to not become overpowered).Don't know, I would love to see the class work, it's such a beautiful design if it comes to fantasy.
This will probably be the reverse priest in mythic raiding.Shadow brings very little to the table as a sprec, so having a priest healer is just so much better. Because they bring all the utility a shadow has and you can fill the dps slot with a dps who does 10% more. Or in aoe fights 100% more. Like a hunter or warlock. With evokers you want the utility, but it might just be enough to have a dps evoker. In mythic raiding you try and make almost every second count, every gcd is being planned and used. Being able to "move fast" to heal, well, every other healer does not have to waste 1-2 seconds on movement to do that, they are 1-2 seconds faster every time the group is in trouble. And to be honest, in the fun fights you don't have that time. Healing needs to be instant and high. Every delay means someone could die. And 56% of the area is just not going to be enough. It means the group had to pay around it and it means that weak auras and voice calls have to be made so that people know that they are not in range. And this already happens with 40 yard healers. For the dps it's another cup of tea. They can manage that better
This article has a lot of words to otherwise say preservation lacks a niche, the 30 yard range feels limiting and their utility is questionable at best.
