Does seem like you're limited to one drop of the vet track gear this week, I did the undermine special assignment to get mine and then did not receive a vet track piece from this quest.
If you get to renown 7, you can get up to 3. Any of the weekly activities (including s1 weeklies) drops a S2 item from the boxes - at least the first 2.

You can also get up to 2 pieces of Season 2 Veteran gear from weekly open world activities such as the Theater Troupe and the delves weekly quest from Brann. The Surge Pricing weekly might be included in the 2 per week limit as I definitely did not get a Veteran piece from that.

Kind of weirdly bait title, the gear is 623 and can be upgraded using a number of crests that does not currently seem very feasible to acquire. Obviously you can upgrade this gear easily in a couple weeks, but it's not really a useful "get ahead" / "prepare" angle because you will obviously have a million sources of veteran and higher gear in that time period.
The gear is not 645 lol. It has to be upgraded. You're better than click bait titles, wowhead.
They are right, it is available meaning you have ways to get it. There are actually 4 options though, the R7 boots, the 2 weekly quests and the surge quest. All will give you roughly 623 / 626 ilvl items that you can upgrade.
Whatever you do, don't replace your 4pc tier with these. 4pc will outperform a 6ilvl upgrade for most people.

If you do the Special Assignment quest in undermine this counts towards the first two pieces of gear but is only awarding Adventurer not Veteran track currently. I received this chest on several characters and was not able to receive a second veteren track piece even without opening the Special Assignment chest.The Special Assignment chest reward showed as Veteran on the world map but I received Adventurer on completing the quest. This was during week 1 of the patch. Other characters who did not complete this quest were able to still receive two Veteran pieces
where do I get more Carved Undermine Crests to upgrade all 3 pieces of loot? I'm all out after upgrading the first 2...

If you have a fresh lvl 80, you can go to all of the quartermasters and get all of the stones and crests from your renown and they will all be Season 2. They also don't count towards season cap either.
i have done every weekly quest i guess i got screwed only got 1 epic item Sadge
