You'll be able to queue directly for Wintergrasp this week. It will become a part of the Random Epic Battleground rotation next week. Team did great job bringing this back. Enjoy! pic.twitter.com/LUXZ19mS43

At the top of the zone is Wintergrasp Fortress (marked in yellow), which houses the Vaults of Archavon raid instance and is the primary focus of the battle over Wintergrasp itself. The defending team will find they need to repel the invading faction to maintain control of the fortress, while the attacking team utilizes resources to breach the walls and capture the fortress.

Several regions across the zone (marked in purple) are home to elementals that flee when the Horde and Alliance forces prepare to clash, only resurfacing once the battle passes. During the battle, players may choose to fight in those regions but as there are no advantages given to either side in doing so, often times they are ignored in favor of more strategically important areas.

Active battle zones in Wintergrasp, aside from the fortress itself, are located across the bottom of the zone (marked in green). They fall under two general categories: workshops and towers. Gaining and maintaining control of a workshop increases a team's resources by providing vehicles toward the team's goal. Towers, on the other hand, increase the defenses of Wintergrasp Fortress, and when destroyed, increase the time provided to the attacking team.

"increase the time provided to the attacking team" should be "decrease."

Does anybody know what the open world state of Wintergrasp will be now, and if VoA is open to everyone all the time, or something like that?

Comment by Rocchio

Glad to see something like wintergrasp back! i would be happy to try it as soon as it would be live in my region!

Comment by TaliaKirana

I bet the odds are very good Ashran will return as an epic battleground. Maybe in 8.2.5?

If I am not mistaken they confirmed that long time ago :)

As long as they didn't change the music, I'm gonna be so happy playing this again!

The old Wintergrasp is still the same as Tol Barad, that means it is an open world zone where you can fly in and fight every hour for control outside the instanced BG version. So you need to get control before you can enter the Vault.

The Instanced version is based on the open world version. So when Horde is defending in the open world, the instanced version is the same.
Blizz confirmed that at the release they switch it from the same defender to a random attack/defenders.

Never mind ashran, people hated it back when it was an instant gearing right after ding, but what about Tol'Barad?

The damn que was long AF. Over 90 minutes for me on 2 different characters each. One was DPS and the other was a healer. Won both. :D

I never hated it, one of my favorite BG. Don't assume what you don't know.

I'm just chiming in to say that, I, too, loved Ashran. Though that was when spriest had the little bouncy ball attack. It was fun tagging everyone like that >:3c

I've also never done a proper Wintergrasp, so I'll probably try it out! Maybe when the queue isn't over an hour though lol

This is GREAT NEWS! I love Wintergrasp. Still I think would be better to have it like this, then part of epic battleground group. In this way, less player will be joining again :/
