S: An exceptional choice and valuable in nearly every situation, bringing strong throughput and exceptional survivability. Expected to be the most popular.

A: A very good choice, excelling in most situations, with maybe one or two minor weakness. These specs are expected to have at least a few appearing at the top of the leaderboards.

B: A solid choice, perfectly playable when used well. They may have a niche that will standout over other Tanks, but they ultimately have weaknesses keeping them from the top. These specs are expected to have one or two found at the top.

C: Below average but not unplayable. These specs usually suffer in throughout or survivability. These specs are likely not to see much play at the top but may appear with players who specialize in them. There are no specs currently listed here.

D: Far too weak to even consider. There are no specs currently listed here.

Blood Death Knight is receiving a lot of buffs going into season 2, as well as the hotfix to Dance of Midnight which came late in season 1. Blood Death Knight is currently dominating the leaderboard due to its high survivability and damage output. It also comes with all the DK utility that it always had, including double Death Grip.

A-Tier SpecsVengeance Demon Hunter

Vengeance Demon Hunter has received many buffs recently, increasing its passive survivability. Its main issue comes from defensive consistency due to RNG meta uptime from Voidfall procs and low self sustain when outside of Metamorphosis due to the rework it got going into season 1. However its damage contribution is currently the highest among tanks due to high personal damage and access to Chaos Brand.

Guardian Druid

Guardian Druid got a huge nerf to Lunation going into Season 2, effectively tripling the cooldown of Lunar Beam. The tier set is very nice for Season 2, increasing uptime of Incarnation: Guardian of Ursoc and opening up a new build that spams Mangle and Thrash. Guardian Druid is definitely still playable but will be a shadow of its Season 1 self. That said, druid utility is extremely strong and the other druids are not looking so hot on release so Guardian Druid may be a good choice regardless.

Brewmaster Monk is losing a very good tier set from Season 1 and getting an unfortunate rework to Celestial Infusion, making energy flow a bit more awkward. It still has a great place in physical damage compositions due to Mystic Touch and can survive high keys with some healer help. Therefore, we are leaving it in A tier.

B-Tier Specs

Protection Paladin received a large rework going into season 2, changing its damage profile to be significantly more healthy than season 1, as well as receiving 10% free damage reduction from Seal of Reprisal. However, Prot Paladins also lost 3 seconds on Sentinel after all talents, and took a huge nerf on Grand Crusader procs from Reflection of Radiance which will massively reduce defensive uptime. Protection Paladin remains an excellent tank for carrying lower keys due to its ability to solo interrupts and help the group survive, however late PTR nerfs have most likely taken it out of the meta.

Protection Warrior is getting small buffs going into season 2, but not much is really changing as it is still reliant on Spell Reflection to do competitive damage, so we are leaving it in B tier.

All of them are either S or A, but nothing below. Rarely a Tank in B tier. Like, what is the point in making a tier list for that, if you only use 2 lines to begin with?
