Possibly the sexiest ground mount in game in my opinion. I'm sorry Spectral Tiger, move over.

This mount has a low drop rate from Alysrazor from all versions of the encounter (10 and 25 man, normal and heroic), as shown in this blog post and confirmed via comments on this page. The item on the US armory shows this as having a "very low" drop chance. Ashes of Al'ar has the same "very low" drop rate on the armory, and Wowhead currently lists the mount as having a 2% drop chance from Kael'thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep, so expect this to have a 1-3% drop chance.

Doubt it. Nothing will trump Al'ar.

Flametalon is a ground mount too anyway, I'd say it's on-par with Fiery Warhorse's Reins from Attumen in Kara. Since Firelands will be current-tier content come 4.2, you'll see a few of these around*, even though they will be extremely rare no doubt.

* - speculation on drop %, or what it's actually an award of - achievement, quest, rare zone mob, whatever, we don't know what it's from yet but all fingers point to low-ish drop rate - Alysrazor (or Heroic mode only low drop rate?)

Personally it's a little too bright for my taste..I'd like the Purple one seen on one of the above screenshot links.

Definitely a must have for any shadow priest, it gives it a stunning red/black look that in my opinion, is unrivaled by any mount. Just for the sake of common comparison, it beats the pants off of the Spectral Tiger for shadow priests, simply because a spectral tiger in shadow form looks like floating pieces of armor.

I'm fairly confident in saying it's one of the rarest, if not the rarest mount thus far from this expansion. The fact that the rag mount drops 100% for heroic kills makes it fairly common for top guilds on the server, not to mention the 1% drop rate on normal.

So I buy BoE PVP gear so my ilvl is high enough to queue for LFR / openraid.us stuff and my first FL25 run, I win this with a 99, 4 days after hitting 85 on my druid.

I think one guy was seriously considering dropping raid, transferring to my realm, and giving me a ton of gold for it, but I'll keep it :P

I won this mount last weekend. I knew there was a mount that dropped but, honestly, I never read anything about it. Since it was a low drop rate I never expected to actually see it.

I must admit I was very disappointed to find out this was NOT a flying mount. And some of the others in the raid who knew it dropped didn't realize it was a ground mount either. Its a very cool looking mount but I use my flying mount 99% of the time for things so I rarely use it. Oh well.

I soloed as a Ret paladin, i can confirm it drops on 10 man normal in 5.1 when in a raid group by yourself, i was skeptical at first encase only non mounts dropped as i thought blizzard said make it easier for people to farm gear.

I can confirm this drops on 10 man, I soloed this for the first time today and to my surprise it dropped. Took me about 15 trys until I got a good strategy. The pally below who posted did a great job, i followed his strategy. Good luck to everyone especially you ret pallies!

All of normal Firelands is soloable as a Blood Death Knight, so consider trying to farm for this mount :).

Soloing this (as en ele shaman) got to be the best solo encounter ive ever done, i strongly encourage any one who likes to solo bosses to do this, i was very sceptical to aculy being able to down this one but after a few tryes i could conclude that i just experianced the best solo encounter ive ever played.

Very easy solo on a Ret pally in 505 ilvl gear, although there are a few things to watch out for.

First off, took me 14 attempts to kill her. 12 of those were because she despawned, and once because I didn't handle the transition phase very well.

In order to make sure she doesn't despawn at the begining, wait until she gets to the end of her little run and takes off before you get your 3rd feather.

Also, if you get to far from her while flying around, she will explode and despawn, knocking you out of the air. This seems to happen if you are too far away when she starts her bombing run through the center of the arena. so make sure you stay close when she starts that.

The 14th attempt took 7 min 16 sec to kill. Entire time I spent in there was maybe 25 min or so, thanks to all the despawning. I got crazy lucky and mount dropped first go. Never saw it while in here as a 10 man raid, so all that work was worth the effort heh.

Soloed it for the first time yesterday as a survival hunter. I have 520ilv atm but the hunter video I used as a guide had lower gear guess the key part is having enough health around 500k. Its the fly only tactic.
The hardest part by far is simply surviving the tornado phase.

Consumables I used:大地精鍊藥劑, 堅韌符文卷軸 III(Stamina buff if you dont have a priest buff available) and Optional some Agi foods. The guy in the video also used also BoK
I only had health pots and bandage available no HS unfortunately.

Talents used: 心曠神怡,強力射擊,獵殺快感,黑鴉獵殺
Glyphs Used: 動物情誼雕紋, 威懾雕紋, 誤導雕紋

Simply start the pull unload as much as you can, Serpent, Black arrow, Explosive,Crows and try to get a power shot off. Start picking up feathers and fly as close to her as possible.(after you are up use a Bandage or Exhilaration) Personally for the first half lap I simply focused on getting as many rings as possible, to make sure I got the Powershot casting time down as fast as possible. After she went for her first pass down I started fully unloading everything while still getting the rings. you have about 3 laps I believe and by the third one she should be around 50% or lower (I was usually around 46% or so) and that was with still trying to get the feel of the flying and grabbing rings.

When she starts the tornado phase, wait 4-5 seconds near the fire wall (entrance) and keep shooting. Important dont land outside on the rock yet! or be outside the ring yet this is IMPORTANT because else you simply wont survive. I had a lot of hit and misses here.(to soon/to late, agroing the birds etc) also important that you are at FULL health when you start this phase or its basically byebye. When you are at around 40/30% health Deterrence and Exhilarate and readiness. At this point you should be around 10 seconds left in to the phase simply deterrence again and Exhilarate again. (use a health pot or bandage or HS if you have it available) dont try to use all of them. When she crashes run to the side drop a snake trap, summon your pet. DO NOT summon it during the firestorm because 9/10 you aggro the birds.

Depending on your health feel free to use the remaining items available to you (bandage,pot or HS) aim for about 50% health if possible around 250k the higher the better tho so dont be shy using everything at this point. Because you will be receiving around 225k damage during this phase(without getting hit by the boss if you do, you might not survive).

When she comes running to you try to make her run over the trap (she actually missed mine during my kill). MD pet and send it in keep moving away from her because agro will stay on you. Blow your stampede (a gift from heaven)
feign death and stay down for a couple of seconds so she completely stays on your pets. she has to claw trough 5-6 of them so it will take so much time she lifts off again.
You either survive this phase with quite some health left or with a slither of health left no worries grab the feathers asap and get back up. Don't freak like I did :D avoid the clouds and try to grab some rings asap. Your first lap main priority is simply to survive (AKA dont hit any clouds or drop down) when she goes for her first pass down your bandage,exhilaration should be off CD by now use them and then rinse and repeat till she dies.

At long last, I finally got the mount I've wanted more than any other in the game for a long time. I've been two manning it as Frost DK with a lock for a while now. Probably logged about 15 kills on Alysrazor total between actual raids and farming. Had around 10 kills total farming and it finally dropped for me :)

Stay strong when farming and eventually you will be rewarded. Couldn't be happier about finally having the mount :)

44 kills, got this, mount #211, some of my kills were in groups in cata and mop for achievements and rep farming, a few months ago I started farming this on my main blood dk and arms warrior, 495 dps gear on dk and 515 on warrior. After I learnt the solo strategy better and also improved my execution on rings, I was able to solo this on my 2nd blood dk, item level 472, dps gear, without buffs, I saw it's doable in 448 dps gear as of mop, but that is using full buffs and since 472 is reachable even with extreme unluck on lfr in a lockout, I'd recommend just getting there and saving gold which you'd spend for buffs with less gear.

This guide is intended from low to average geared moonkins, so heroic geared toons probably won't need all the explanations.

I/ Trashs :

Getting to Alysrazor :

You shouldn't have any problem here, you just can go through trash mobs without any aggro, just be careful about burning dogs patrolling around the place.
If you're a night elf, you can insure your path with 潛行

Trash mobs :

You will face your first issue here. There are 4 different mobs :

2 烈焰先驅者 : they won't be any problem, just dps them down quickly when you get in the place.
2 蛋 : They will spawn at a fast rate many 悶燃幼雛, which can quickly overcome you.
2 熾炎巨怪 : They will awake as soon as 烈焰先驅者 will stop channeling to focus you.

As soon as you enter the place, use your dps cooldowns and kill these 烈焰先驅者, once done you should already some 悶燃幼雛 on you. Then mouseover the 熾炎巨怪 neck until you get the "mount vehicule" cursor, click. When you're alone, instead of getting control of the npc, you will be automatically dismounted, but the good point is that the little 悶燃幼雛 despawn at the same time, restoring also 蛋 to full health.

Now you just have to go next to one of the egg pile, and turn around them carefully avoiding 熾炎巨怪 bolts. They will easily kill both eggs and hatchlings. Just heal yourself with Rejuvenation and Healing Touch if needed. Do the same with the second egg pile, finish the 2 fire birds. Congratulations, the real deal begins now !

II/ Alysrazor :

Talents :

Wild Charge > Feline Swiftness : Wild charge will give you some time to get out of range of the two 貪噬幼雛, which hurt a lot.
Nature Swiftness : You can combine it with Healing Touch three times more frequently than Renewal, despite the fact it costs you a gcd.
/
Incarnation : Will help you a lot for defeating 貪噬幼雛 or Alysrazor after the tornade phase.
/
Dream of Cenarius > Heart of the Wild

This talent tree is my recommandation, you can of course go for different choices, depending on your burst capacities or your skill level. I found out Dream of Cenarius being a must for both killing 貪噬幼雛 and damaging Alysrazor during Wings of Flame phase.

Important notes :

I will sum up here the main non-trivial points :

熔火之羽 : these give you the ability to cast while moving, you need to keep 2 stacks of this buff permanently during the ground phase.
貪噬幼雛 : they hurt. really. I'll explain the way I handle them in a further paragraph, but there is one thing you need to know : you must kill them on the ground before chasing Alysrazor in the air. The 印刻 debuff you get won't work properly if you lift up from the ground then come back.
熾炎猛禽學徒 : you won't kill them for the entire fight, except the ones spawning before the 貪噬幼雛's for each phase 1 you go through.

Strategy :

Consumables : Food, Flask/Elixir/精神錯亂水晶 (my favourite for both the stam/int buff)
Eclipse : Don't go in a particular state.

Pull : Focus Alysrazor and move to solar Eclipse first, dps her and the first two 熾炎猛禽學徒 without proccing lunar Eclipse, take 2 熔火之羽.
Voracious Hatchlings phase : Most difficult part, if you handle them properly it's a free win. Put yourself in a pre-lunar Eclipse state, Healing touch, Rejuvenation 1 second after the eggs have landed in the middle of the room, Healing touch again, wait for their spawn, wrath one, Incarnation, put a Moonfire on each hatchling, then Sunfire.
Now they are on you, so use barkskin and try to kite them next to the 肥鼓鼓的熔岩蟲 to avoid their enrage (which would rape you for sure). Meanwhile, follow the usual dps opening, just don't use your Celestial Alignment, just keep going on the eclipse bar.

This is with no doubt the hardest phase to go through. The most geared you are the easier it'll be, so low/mid-geared people will eventually have to train a bit.

A/ Always refresh your rejuvenation when fading.
B/ Use NS+HT (instant Healing touch) as soon as you fall under 50% hp.
C/ Kite them while trying to avoid fire breaths from the plump lava worms.
D/ DoT both, but focus one at a time. Really easier mobs to handle when they are alone.
E/ Don't care about the initiates.
I believe I can fly : Get the third feather, and go in the air, initiates spawned until now and during the air phase will stop casting for the entire fight, even when you get back on the ground. Now you just have to go through your rotation but you need to be careful about one thing : you'll have a lot of haste once you have stacked the fire rings buff, that leads to the fact that you'll probably refresh very often your DoTs with the crit mechanic on your nukes. So to be the most efficicent, be sure to refresh only the DoT matching your Eclipse state.
Tornado phase : nothing hard here, damage is pretty weak, one single refreshed rejuvenation (with the +haste%) buff should make it. Try to refresh your haste buff at the very last moment before she fell down.
Burst phase : Here you go. Don't forget to proc DoC before DoTing her, and use all your cooldowns (CA, Incarnation should be ready to use a few seconds after she is stunned). Concerning the 2 druids channeling, you can interrupt one with the solar beam, otherwise don't bother, it would be a dps loss. Be sure to have your Barkskin ready for the 15s cleave once she reaches 50 energy.

Back to phase 1, the situation is quite identical, except that there's a bunch of Plump Lava Worms all around the room. I told you to use Incarnation during the burst phase because you'll probably won't need it. In fact, you'll kite your Voracious Hatchlings all around the room, they'll keep eating worms, making this phaser much easier than previously.

Depending on your dps, you'll kill her in two phases (maybe one if you're the god of owls, three if you failed a bit during the air phase). Now you just have to be patient until you finally drop this wonderful fiery Anzu !

been farming this since firelands came out not seen a single drop,and since pandaria i been farming it till this very day on 4 characters a week and still no drop, yet i see tons of happy-go-lucky randomers get it on the first try or people who dont even know it exists, sad really....i hope this drops soon as im losing faith that this exists

Some quick calculations on farm and chance:

Flat 1/47 chance of dropping. You could get it the first run or do it for years and still not see it.

Farm is assumed to be once per lockout a week, on one toon, with you not competing in need rolls with other people (which would easily double, triple, or, in the case of a full 10m, ten times the unlikelihood of you getting it). To solo Alysrazor yourself you'll probably need a spec with strong self healing Blood DKs, Priests, Paladins. If you want to see how its mainly done, check this youtube vid among others..... I suggest doing this with any other toons you can use to multiply your chances per week.

The following is estimated by binomial formula.

If very lucky within binomial 33.33% (1 in 3) you will get this within 19 weeks (5 months).

On average, people will get this within binomial 66.67% (2 in 3) counting 51 weeks (around an entire year).

If EXTREMELY unlucky, past 95.83% (23 out of 24 people will have gotten it before you), you'll have to farm this for a staggering 148 weeks (34 months or nearly 3 years!)

In other words, don't get discouraged, it will eventually drop, but it takes a ton of commitment. It will eat heavily into your life, so be sure you want it.

This mount dropped for me yesterday after i've been doing Firelands a few times. I went totally happy and hoped i won it but unfortunately i lost it :( My boyfriend rolled for me too, and sadly he didn't win it either.
The guy who won it, wouldn't even consider selling it so i just saw him afterwards, running around in the raid on this gorgeous mount like he was saying "#$%^ yeah!" which he probably did.
I could've punched him in his face, but.. I was happy for him getting it. He had wanted it for ages, just as i, but it was still very sad to finally see it drop, and then lose it.
I already have the Pureblood Fire Hawk, which dropped for me 2 days in a row on 2 diff. chars.

Btw - it was the first time i went there with my paladin. Never seen it on any of my other chars. (Think i've done the raid around 10-15 times overall, but i've wanted the mount since they released the raid.)

Dropped on Argent-Dawn around 20 o clock server time on my paladin Aythirin.
The Dwarf warrior named Rhimyr from Argent-Dawn were the lucker who won it.

I hope i'm lucky enough to the get mount another time and congratulations to all of you, who've been lucky enough to actually win this beauty!
I will continue my hunt for this mount and i won't give up until i get it! I am prepared! ;)

This mount does not award a feat of strength achievement.

Interestingly enough, the very similar mount Raven Lord which has the same drop rate and a daily reset instead of weekly reset does have a feat of strength.

Ok as a mount farmer when I saw this for the first time in Cata my jaw dropped. Needless to say I wanted it badly. Never got the chance to even see it drop in Cata as my guild was never that into raiding though we did clear out FL towards the end of the expansion.

This mount is indeed soloable by quite a few classes. To be honest the hardest part after patch 5.2 was getting to the boss with all the trash as a cloth char. The hardest part I found when I started soloing Aly was actually seeing the rings. I play wow on a pretty bad laptop with a graphics card that belongs on in the trash and hence my settings are on fair most of the time. When i started failing on the boss, I switched to good graphics in the menu and could see the circles you have to fly through perfectly.

As for the fight itself its pretty easy these days, but I did encounter problems especially on my main that has the legendary str dps cloak. The problem seemed to be that when Aly flys down towards the ground my cloak would start hitting the mobs there and eventually lead to a reset and my char being blow across the map. So I just figured out I'd stop dps for a few secs whilst it was flying below. This got rid of those problems.

Now after about 30kills or so (first time I get a raid mount this fast) I got the mount. So to those that are dishearted just continue it'll drop eventually :)

I've been soloing this for some weeks now on my Rogue (Combat). Trash used to be tricky but thanks to Celestials (cloak) is now very easy. Healing Poison FTW!

Let's see how long it takes. I have the Corrupted Firehawk and to be honest I with there was a corrupted version ot this.... it would look like such a badass set of mounts... specially for a class that is dark/shadow related :P

Been doing this on 3 characters a week for about 3 months (2 solo and 1 with my brother's character).. Just dropped on the character I farm it on with my bro and I passed for him... He only rolled 34! Already regretting it as i'll probably end up having to kill it another 100 x for it to drop again.

I solo this weekly on my paladin (but have also soloed it on my 502 ilvl shammy)

Ive done 10 normal, 10 heroic and 25 normal.

Dps her as she moves through the field from behind, and then pick up the feathers. You need to take as many rings as possible, if your able to solo her before the "burnt out" phase, theres no need to do anything else than just fully nuke her down while collecting rings. I can kill her this way on heroic and normal 10. But i needed to do 25 a little different (and on my shammy).

If you cant kill her in just the air phase, do the same as before, collect feathers and fly up, collect 4 rings (first 4), by this time the eggs should be about to hatch, fly down and zerg the birds, they die pretty fast as you get a +damage buff (i have had it bug on me a few times and i dont get it, but it normally works proper after a reset). Then just fly up and do as normal, when the tornadoes come, keep collecting rings, then just blast her down. If you havent finished her off before she gains power again, you will need some self healing as she will hurt with her strikes. Once after that repeat 1st phase (you shouldnt need to kill eggs this time)

On heroic, the only different thing is she stays in the air casting firestorm instead of gusting through the field. So its actually easier as not as much flying movement :)

Just got this on my ilvl 562 Ret Paladin, Nexsa-Turalyon Horde.

I went to the BMAH for a change to see what was on there and this mount was there sitting at 40k, so I waited until time was shorter, and placed a bid.

Shortly after I was outbid and I bid again. This went on between me and an Alliance paladin. I stopped when he/she bid it to 147,900g and went to try and solo the boss on 10m normal.

First attempt, first solo kill and it dropped. I was like, "No f**king way"

I was so glad I got it and saved a ton of gold.

Tactic at that iLvl was to just start dpsing and picking up feathers as she first moved forward. Once she lifted off I grabbed the last feather. Stay close to her, and grab the rings that are very close to her. With my dps I was able to down her before she went to the burnt out phase where she lands.

Dropped for me today after about 30 runs total on my i530 mage (10N; she has about 38m HP). Beyond i525-530, I found it comfortable on both my rogue/mage to kill her before the first fire cyclone phase. Of course you should be flying through rings, etc, but my best advice is to stay on her ass for the bulk of the fight. If you're having problems with her resetting, it probably means that you let her get too far from you.

I solo this boss every week for this mount. All my toons are 530+ilvl. Get your 3feathers and fly through the rings. STAY CLOSE TO HER OR IT WILL RESET!

Scored Flametalon of Alysrazor today, my 52th attempt at it as a 583 Elemental Shaman, and upping my mount count to 232. (no other chars)

A very lovely and eyecatching a mount for sure!

I should make a note its easilly possible to run the whole way to Alysrazor's place without fighting a single mob. The trick is to go as soon you zone in, only briefly stopping to allow pats to move by you and you can get all the way up to her area. Dont wait too long or the pats becomes desynched from the easy starting pattern.

I wouldn't say easily soloed, but 6/10 difficulty on 3 different toons (Frost Mage 565, Ret Pally 552 and Fury Warrior 535), all done within an hour. Easiest strategy, as stated thoroughly, is to grab the feathers and follow her closely. Fly through the rings to maintain the buff, and pound her mercilessly. When she swoops down, make sure you stay on her as well so you don't get either blown off the area, or fall to your death (happened twice). Was able to down her once before the Fire Tornado phase, and twice while the tornadoes were active. Just keep flying and don't let up. First 3 solos, but no mount. Not too hard though. Thanks to the numerous ppl that posted that strategy; it works perfectly.

Very fun to solo Alysrazor:) Its a good challenge, and when the flametalon surprises you by dropping, you really feel accomplished and that you worked hard to get your mount:P And believe me, Firelands is lot more fun when you already have the mounts that drop.

Farming this mount on 3 week 7 characters.

Today it's dropped my 20th kill.

This mount is so easy farming. All my chars just 540+ geared. 2 hunter, 2DK, warrior, lock, pal.

Felt very fortunate to get this drop on 4th solo kill. Had it ninja'd twice in pugs over the last year or so. Thought I saw it flash by on the loot window but wasn't sure until I saw it in my bags.

Funny note: I wasn't aware that it is a ground mount so when I went out of the instance and mounted up by the summoning stone, I dove off the into the lava thinking it would fly ;-)
