This spell alllows warriors to be very effective in tanking multi-elite pulls without CC. Combining Thunderclap and tab-Sundering/Revenge, you can effectively hold up to 4 mobs with enough threat to counter healer aggro.

However unlike the paladin Consecrate + Holy Shield threat generation, without a substantial threat-lead, you probably won't be able stay ahead of mage/warlock AoE, aka. the fast-fun-and-famous Shattered Halls Prot Pally runs, where every elite pack is AoEd down instead of CC-ed and single targeted.

Generally more useful for tanking than solo'ing or PvP'ing.

Creates strong threat for ~~up to 4~~ all nearby targets, as well as dealing some damage and reducing your own damage taken.

As of right now (since all of this is subject to change), you get get 30% more damage for 60% less rage in a 25% increased radius (which comes to a 56.25% increase in area). These benefits are conferred by Improved Thunder Clap, Focused Rage, Glyph of Resonating Power, and Glyph of Thunder Clap.

It doesn't just hit 4 units as it was before. In fact it hits the area around you and everyone in it.
"Blasts nearby enemies."
Excellent for tanking multiple annoying mobs like in Shadow Labs and Arcatraz. Sheep? Who needs a sheep if you can tank them all.

Does anyone know the exact range and AP conversion on this ability? Its easy to judge range in battle, but an exact number would be useful. And dmg caused varies by armor, so much harder to make a good guess, I think its 10% or less.

Yeah, back in 'ole TBC when you were type cast into only being able to go to certain raids because they needed you to take hateful strikes or to AoE tank. The good old days.

One thing I have noticed recently, and I'm not sure if its just me, but my thunderclap no longer applies a debuff image, so i wonder if that -10% debuff still applies itself. Time to go for a test I suppose... *hunts for victims*

Thunder Clap benefits 1 dmg for every (5 STR =) 10 AP. at least on my lvl 23 Warrior. That makes it:
Thunder Clap: Damage + 0.1*AP = total damage

The resource is rage. Are you just trolling? Thunder clap is a versatile talent that has uses for Arms, Fury and Protection warriors in pve and pvp.

Just because nobody mentioned it:
Thunderclap is blocked by silence effects. Remember about that when you encounter mobs with that ability. This can really cause some nasty problems. Especially when you realize that silence turn shouts off to.

Hurray, finally, a positive change for our beloved thunder-based aoe. Meaning it should miss less on bosses, and more damage on crits, should be a reasonable boost to our threat capabilities.

Even if this ability belongs to the Physical school, you still cannot cast it while Silenced. It should actually be a Physical + Nature spell (the so called Naturestrike damage school, hex value 0x9)

The Physical portion is when the Warrior slams his weapon into the ground.
The Nature portion is the percussion wave that radiates from the impact of the weapon.

At least enable the physical portion during a silence, like an instant Overpower (extra attack).

when I look at this spell in game it just says:
Causes damage to all enemies in the area, and slows their attack speed.

Thunder Clap can proc Crusader, however I believe it will only proc Crusader on your mainhanded weapon.

Fun Fact: A Pandaren Warrior (male Pandaren, anyway. I don't know about female Pandaren) using Thunder Clap doesn't stomp the ground...with his foot. He does a butt-stomp.

Now, this ability is rather useless and is a waste of rage unless in protection spec
No longer does it slow enemy movement speed by 33%, and decreases their attack speed.

we see a rather generic debuff, these "weakened blows"

like 10% will do anything. I reckon Blizzard got tired of classes being unique and decided to homogenize buffs and debuffs. Smart move, easier gameplay=more subscriptions, more $$ , and make classes retard-proof

Does ANYONE remember if this used to have a lower level requirement? I am trying to figure out when I first started playing WoW, but all I remember from it was when on my level 10 or so warrior (first toon) one day I logged in and EVERYTHING WAS DIFFERENT. And if I remember correctly I had recently learned this skill (yes it was back when you actually talked to the class trainer to learn skills) but when I logged in that one day it was gone from my action bar. And being the casual-player noob that I was I didn't have a clue of what was going on. Now this was probably 2009 or 2010 so I'm thinking perhaps cata release?

At some point during MoPandaria (or even Cataclysm), Thunder Clap was changed to do Physical damage instead of Nature damage (it always scaled with attack power) - meaning that heavily armored foes will now take a lot less damage from TC due to their physical damage reduction.

As lvl50 Prot warrior, my Thunder Clap hits dummies/critters for the exact tooltip damage (~550) while on instance mobs of my level it does about 280 damage, due to their armor reducing TC's physical damage.

I personally like Thunder Clap for its speed of use, but the damage and effect it does is lame compared to the amount of rage it takes up. The rage could be better spent on a Battle Shout and Heroic Strike or a Rend or something. Nevertheless, you can slow the attacks of four enemies and damage a bit, so even getting ganged up on doesn't seem so bad, until you die anyway.

HAHAHA! He says "Use Wisely" idk WTF he's talkin about...here's what I mean, he has Bloodrage clearly, so that means he's lvl 10..where the hell is his defensive Stance? well, I don't think I've ever seen an NPC his lvl look like that, so I';m guessing that WAS WHAT he had to kill for his warrior quest, never made a Horde warrior. hahaha My bad if it is. lol

If you spec Improved Thunder Clap then I heard this actually generates the same amount of threat on 4 targets as if you sundered each of them once. Couple this with the 20% damage (speed) decrease for 30 seconds, and this makes an excellent ability for quickly grabbing the mobs at the beginning of the pull before your other party members start pumping out the DPS and healing. Of course it breaks CC, but any good tank should be able to avoid that anyway.

P.S. Also great against rogues in PVP.

I love this ability, I made sure to grab the talets for it. Its awsome for soloing anything or pulling agro in instances. Its a must have for any warrior wanting to go on his own.

This spell is actually pretty useful in dungeons if u have the improved thunder clap talent. It actually does as much dmg as a whirlwind for less rage and only a 4 sec cd as opposed to whirlwind's 10 sec cd...poonage!

in my opinion thunder clap is a very good ability, 20 rage is not expensive for an instant attack that affects up to 4 enemies, and with improved thunder clap maxed out the damage it does is doubled, plus u get the 20% atk speed reduction to the mobs, when u use heroic strike you spend rage and you dont generate the rage you would if u just did a normal swing, i've been trying out 2handers, dual wield and shield, i think i kill quicker with dual wield despite the increased miss%, and when i charge in, cast demoralizing shout and thunder clap i already have some advantage, less atack power from enemy and its reduced attack speed, not to mention when thuner clap crits, it does good damage compared to my dual wield white damage and i save heroic strike for last, i like to work on generating rage rather than spend it all at too early by spamming heroic strike, dont forget execute but anyway, we all know if u are a soloing warrior and u are up against more than 2 enemies at the same time if u dont have potions well you'll kill some but end up dead, unless they are too low level for u, well that's enough from me, this is my first comment here on thottbot

Easy to underestimate this one because the seenisn't seen in the damage caused/taken numbers flashing about your head. Look at it this way though:

-10% slower attack speed is 10% less damage
Look at how much damage mitigation all that hard -earned armour gets you in a %

Think of it as a 10% bonus to your armour and it seems much more appealing. Throw in the AoE damage and threat and this becomes an excellent excellent ability, if a bit of a rage sink.

Improved Thunder Clap Rank 7(with 2H):

246 damage + 20% speed reduction on 4 enemies is way better then the extra 208 dmg the Heroic strike(rank 11) does. Remember, HS uses the white attack, and gives it 208 more damage, thunder clap does not use the regular attack, and still does 246 damage. So even if you're fighting one enemy, thunder clap is better to use then heroic strike.

So, go for 3 talent points in TC, and use that instead of HS. HS uses a white attack, and gives no rage. Thunder clap uses 16 rage, does more damage then HS overall, hurts 4 enemies, slows their attack speed, gives rage when used.

the 2H weapon has a speed between 3.5 and 3.8 most likely, and the CD on TC is 4sec, there is a difference.

208dmg/3.5 =~ 60.0 dmg per sec
246dmg/4.0 =~ 61.5 dmg per sec

As you can see, TC gives more damage per sec. The weapon damage on white attacks remain constant in these two cases. So TC > HS = imho :)

This skill is essential when tanking.

#1 it AOE aggro's enemies, #2 it reduces melee damage.

When you have people AOE'ing spam TC constantly to keep them on you while also spamming Cleave.

.....also do not forget to throw in the always needed intimidating shout which also draws aggro and mitigates damage.

Currently bugged in SoD. Spell benefits from some sources of "critical strike with all spells and attacks" (Valor of Azeroth) but not others (Equipped Items).
