This is one of the new Heirloom Items introduced in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. The whereabouts of Heirloom Rings is currently Unknown but most likely will be made available through random profession dailies luck. I feel safe enough saying this since our last Heirloom ring was available from Fishing.

The first Major patch of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm introduced new Heirloom items that were created to help Plate classes obtain the necessary defensive stats to properly Tank dungeons.

For players interested in obtaining the many Heirloom that are available, below is a table of how they can be obtained and the price associated with each one.

My apologies for some inaccurate information previously. This comment was made during the Cataclysm Beta and I just never got around to updating it. Prices have been fixed and it now looks sexier then ever.

Patch 4.1 Heirloom Update
All Heirloom items have had their bindings changed to bind to a single Battle.Net account instead of a World of Warcraft account. This change will let you transfer your items across factions, realms and even the other active World of Warcraft accounts on your Battle.Net Account.

Blizzard has also implemented Tanking Heirlooms with Patch 4.1. Please see above for their names! Links will not be live until the data is merged to the main Wowhead site.

With these new heirlooms your alts will be getting a huge XP advantage for being in the guild as well.
Helm=10%
Shoulder=10%
Cloak=5%
Chest=10%
Legs=10%
L Ring=5%
R Ring=5%
Total=55% ...... but with being in the guild and being rank20 (needed for helm) then you are guaranteed to have an additional 10% to that amount for getting rank12 in the guild which gives the bonus of 10% XP for kills/quests. So your wonderful new alt will be getting 65% XP normal, 265% rested (almost RaF #s) :D

So, here's my question. Do you have to be in the guild when they hit level 10, or do you suddenly gain access to it if you join up with the guild after they hit it. It'd kinda suck to join a guild but then be like, "Oh, you're already level 10. Well, I really want to be able to get the cloak, so see ya later."

Besides the +5% XP bonus this cloak has actually 4 additional stats:

+149 Agility
+224 Stamina
+99 Critical rating
+99 Haste rating

Numbers are for level 85.

Here are enchants I'd go with as a dps

Stealth - Eight agility makes it best for straight damage

Subtlety - Good while in a group or with a pet

I wouldn't recommend this for a tank over Worn Stoneskin Gargoyle Cape (Edit: Unless you're a druid), but if you use it, there are

Superior Defense

Stealth - After the change, this gives more avoidance than Dodge

For druid tanks the agi cloak is better then the strength cloak. But for plate tanks of course stick with the stoneskin cloak

My question is, will I be able to transfer these guild purchased items off a character in the guild?

My Horde guild is unlikely to ever unlock these, but they are real life friends.

My Alliance guild on another server is probable to get these unlocked quickly.

So will I be able to put them on an alt and server transfer them across? Can they be mailed to cross faction alts on the same server?

For those that are wondering the items Inherited Cape of the Black Baron, Worn Stoneskin Gargoyle Cape and Ancient Bloodmoon Cloak can be sent to all alts and the 5% bonues will apply.

I have an 85 in a level 10 guild and was able to purchase a cloak today and sent this to an unguilded character and was getting 5% extra XP when wearing the cloak to test a 2nd scenario, I sent the cloak to a character in a level 7 guild and also received the 5% XP bonus.

So, just bought this one and sent it to my alt when I realized that the armor value is way below what it should be for it's itemlvl. Anybody else find 92 armor on lvl 85 for said to be like 333ish itemlvl very low? It should be more like 500+ on lvl 85. Bug or trade-off for the other stats? Didn't see that on other heirlooms though. Any ideas? Filed a report btw just to be sure^^

Anyone have any updates as to why the "armor" to this thing sucks SO BAD! I can understand that it has "+5 xp" but this is a hard earned item, and thus should not be docked with &*!@ty armor!

So, haven't tested this with the other embroidery spells, and I'm sure it won't work if I transfer it to another character, but I did manage to get Swordguard Embroidery (rank 2) on this particular cloak. (Screenshot)

Seems to proc normally and such. Regular enchants still won't work. I bet the parachute cloak tinker engineers get would work though.

Probably the best enchants for these heirloom cloaks:
Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense + 70 armor
Enchant Cloak - Dodge + 12 Dodge (this is the harder to find Ahn'Qiraj version, not the Lower City Exalted version which requires ilvl 35)
Enchant Cloak - Lesser Agility + 3 Agility
Enchant Cloak - Stealth from Ahn'Qiraj or
Enchant Cloak - Stealth from Cenarion Expedition Exalted
No good enchants for the caster cloak :(

"BEST" HEIRLOOM CLOAKS AND ENCHANTS

Physical DPS - Strength - Worn Stoneskin Gargoyle Cape
Death Knight, Paladin, Warrior

There are no Strength enchants, so Enchant Cloak - Stealth is the best available enchant for PvE, PvP, and questing, but can also be expensive or difficult to find (or both) since the formula requires exalted with Cenarion Expedition. Unfortunately, the next-greatest DPS enchant, Enchant Cloak - Lesser Agility, is vastly inferior. If you want a cheap alternative consider the defensive benefits of or Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense.

Physical DPS - Agility - Inherited Cape of the Black Baron
Druid, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman

Currently there are zero cloak enchants that will increase your DPS. As a result, the following are your best options as a caster leveling via...

...questing, Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense. You will be taking more damage from physical attacks, on average, and it yields the largest damage reduction versus other available options as you are leveling. Best of all: It's cheap! The recipe is bought off Lorelae Wintersong, a vendor in Moonglade.
...PvP, , as you take greater magical damage in PvP than you do a PvE leveling environment. It is disproportionately good at lower levels, as well. Also: Cheap and learned from the trainer!
...random dungeon finder, Enchant Cloak - Subtlety, as it will limit your threat in a group where the tank has no idea where he is going, and thinks "cc" means "carbon copy."

Tanks - Ripped Sandstorm Cloak
Death Knight, Druid, Paladin, Warrior

If you're using a Tank cloak, odds are you are not looking to level via questing, though you may enjoy some PvP on the side. The following are your best optionsfor enchants as a tank...

...random dungeon finder, Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense is going to mitigate the most damage, is inexpensive, and readily available from most any enchanter. That said, Enchant Cloak - Stealth will benefit both your ability to generate threat and gives you a defensive bonus, if you have deep pockets.
...PvP, , as spellcasters can really dish out some pain, and the enchantment will be somewhat helpful against casters in dungeons. There is no "best" choice here, though, and what you use will depend heavily on your style of play, as the prior two suggestions would also be excellent for leveling in battlegrounds.

So my cloak says ingame:

"Equip: Experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests increased by 5%."

But I've just tested it, and that is NOT correct:
Mining a Saronite Vein in Scholozar Basin as a level 72 Druid (with Heirloom Helm, Chest and Shoulders, while rested) I get 5.740 exp. But if I equip this cloak and mine the exact same kind of Saronite Vein, I get 5.944 exp instead (204 exp more).

This heirloom, along with all other heirloom cloaks, should say "Equip: Experience gained is increased by 5%." instead.

...Unless herbing and mining is considered "killing", and veins and herbs are considered monsters, of course ^^

The cloak says:

"Equip: Experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests increased by 5%."

whereas, the helm and the chest pieces say something like:

"Experience increased 10%"..

So. I'm wondering if the cloak gives an extra 5% xp in battlegrounds.. There's no question that the helm and chest give an xp bonus in bg's, but do you see why it is confusing because of the way things are worded?

This would be good to know because I would want to get a pvp cape if I couldnt get an xp bonus from this cape in battlegrounds.

In case you're an alt-oholic like me, THIS item, out of ALL the heirlooms, except for probably the trinkets, I would say is the most widely shared on my account.

Because it's a cape, and not Mail/Leather specific like legs, chest, head and shoulders, it's the only choice for dps or tank Druids, Hunters, Rogues and Enhancement Shaman.

I have 4, just to avoid mailing it :)
