This is one of the new Heirloom Items introduced in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. The whereabouts of Heirloom Rings is currently Unknown but most likely will be made available through random profession dailies luck. I feel safe enough saying this since our last Heirloom ring was available from Fishing.

The first Major patch of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm introduced new Heirloom items that were created to help Plate classes obtain the necessary defensive stats to properly Tank dungeons.

For players interested in obtaining the many Heirloom that are available, below is a table of how they can be obtained and the price associated with each one.

My apologies for some inaccurate information previously. This comment was made during the Cataclysm Beta and I just never got around to updating it. Prices have been fixed and it now looks sexier then ever.

Patch 4.1 Heirloom Update
All Heirloom items have had their bindings changed to bind to a single Battle.Net account instead of a World of Warcraft account. This change will let you transfer your items across factions, realms and even the other active World of Warcraft accounts on your Battle.Net Account.

Blizzard has also implemented Tanking Heirlooms with Patch 4.1. Please see above for their names! Links will not be live until the data is merged to the main Wowhead site.

With all of the +exp heirloom items, you can get up to a 55% increase in experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests.
Helm: 10%
Back: 5%
Chest: 10%
Pants: 10%
Shoulders: 10%
Ring 1: 5%
Ring 2: 5%

Plus, with the other ways to gain extra experience, you can get a grand total of 375% increase in experience!
Rest exp: 100%
Recruit a friend: 200%
Guild perks: 10%
Holiday buffs: 10% (like Fire Festival Dance)

If I'm not mistaken, the 100% exp bonus from rested and the 200% from Refer-a-Friend do NOT stack. You gain from the RaF's 200% when grouped appropriately, and burn your rested bonus of 100% when not grouped with your RaF buddy;

A: No. Although you may be linked with multiple accounts, the maximum increase you can receive at any given time is 300% —triple the normal amount.

It's actually possible to get over 300%, just not with any combination of RAF and Rested. Heirlooms -DO- work with RAF, multiplicatively, meaning, if you have the full 55% Heirloom bonus, and a 10% holiday bonus you should actually be getting a total of 495% - almost 5x experience, here's hoping it sticks around!

Great post Flux. Wish Blizz would do a decent job of explaining to people that the heirlooms change armor level. The first heirlooms I got were for my hunter, and weren't aware of the armor change, so I got the leather. Then someone told me about it after I couldn't return it anymore. Opened a GM ticket, and got them exchanged. Was told however, that the item exchange is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, they will not do it a second time.

While the heirlooms let you level faster, and give you the constant "yay I have a blue" feel, which is fine for those of all us that suffer from "been there done that" after years of playing, there are drawbacks to them for those that like to quest.

First of all, if you want to experience the game stories, and do all the quests in a zone, although the heirlooms will make it easier to get through the content, you will very quickly outlevel the zone and doing quests that are no challenge just isn't fun for most. With Cata you already get enough xp without the heirlooms that you outlevel the zones before completing them, the heirlooms add to this and very quickly you're doing green and grey quests. And you end up having to skip zones if you want any decent xp, which ruins the story part.

When you hit the upper half of the LK content (75-80), you will hit the item level restrictions as well (the "you must be this tall to go on this ride" rule) when you try to queue for dungeons. Heirlooms count as ilvl 1, always. At lvl 80, the stats on the heirlooms are similar to ilvl 166-176 blues - the highest blue you can get before hitting the heroic dungeons is 187. Because the items count as ilvl 1, you may not be able to get into the TOC 5-man, and the 3 ICC 5-mans, through the LFD system. On normal (non-heroic) setting, TOC requires 187 avg item level, and FOS and POS require 200, HOR is higher. To get into the original LK heroics you must have avg item level of 187, heroic TOC requires 200, FOS and POS require 210, and heroic HOR requires 219.

With the heirlooms, reaching those avg item levels require you to have non-heirloom items in your gear that are much higher item level than you would need if you didn't wear heirlooms. So if you want into the highest LK dungeons, you will usually have to replace the heirlooms with normal gear.

In patch 5.4 enhancing heirlooms was changed so that you can put high level enhancements on heirlooms and they will scale (down, but not up) with level.

It does seem like you can apply enhancements that make an item soulbound (Icescale Leg Armor) and armor kits that require level (Medium Armor Kit), but not armor kits that require item level.

Here are some item enhancements you can try on your legs:

Like the rest of the mail heirloom gear, it starts off as leather from levels 1 to 39, converting only to mail when your hunter/shaman hits 40.
