Rats are just about everywhere in the game, and come in several different colors. They will probably be one of your most common 'captures' early on. When clicked, they make, naturally, squeaking and squealing sounds.

Commonly found as primary and secondary around Gjalerbron in Howling Fjord, levels 20-22.

This area is odd in that the pool of pets that appear in Gjalerbron is made up of "generics". Roach, Rat, and Spider are the primaries available. Those plus Rabbit, Snake, Maggot, Skunk, Turkey, Chicken, and Squirrel are the main pool of secondaries. They are infrequently joined by other Howling Fjord battle pets as secondaries.

In Ghostlands, the spawn points randomly create 1 of 3 critters, Larva, Rat, or Spider. If the critter you are looking for isn't the one there, kill it and maybe the respawn will be the one you want.

There is one tameable rat in Timeless Isle, as well, over on the north side of the Celestial Court near Cowardly Zue. As far as I've seen, it always spawns as a battle pet, in random rarities and colors. Its respawn time is around two minutes.

I found a lvl 25 rat on the Timeless Isle today, so that's the highest lvl rat you can trap. I only saw one near the camp with the inkeeper and the mail deliverer at The Celestial Court.
