Hemathion is a black dragon found by Ogri'la, a subzone only accessible with flying.

Morcrush is a large elemental in the eastern part of the zone.

Speaker Mar'grom is an ogre with a distinctive staff located in all of the zone's ogre encampments.

Hellfire Peninsula

Fulgorge is a worm that can spawn where other burrowing worms are found. You can tell when he's about to spawn because his pebbles will be deep red instead of white (like the regular worms) and fly higher into the air. Still, this is a tricky rare to find.

Mekthorg the Wild is a fel orc found either by Hellfire Citadel or Zeth'gor.

Vorakem Doomspeaker is a demon located by the Legion Front, Pools of Aggonar, and the Throne of Kil'Jaeden.

Nagrand

Goretooth is a crocodile found in any of the pools in the zone.

Voidhunter Yar is a large voidwalker by Oshu'gun.

Netherstorm

Chief Engineer Lorthander, is a blood elf found in several Manaforge caves.

Ever-Core the Punisher is an arcane annihilator robot found by Manaforges Ara, Ultris, and B'naar.

Nuramoc, also a hunter tame, is a purple chimaera that flies along several island ridges.

Terokkar Forest

Crippler is a bone golem that spawns in The Bone Wastes by Auchindon.

Doomsayer Jurim patrols the roads to the east and south of Shattrath City. Unfortunately, several friendly guards also patrol the same roads, so they can kill him if you aren't fast enough.

Okrek is an arkoaa located in several tribal encampments.

Shadowmoon Valley

Ambassador Jerrikar, a red satyr with an epic weapon, spawns in 5 demon-related subzones.

Collidus the Warp-Watcher is a disturbing floating eyeball that can either be found patrolling the northern ledge, the southern ledge by Dragonmaw Fortress, or in the center by The Deathforge.

Kraator is a burning infernal that spawns in 5 areas in the zone.

Zangarmarsh

Bog Lurker, a marsh giant, can spawn in three different locations in the zone.

Coilfang Emissary is a pink naga located at several naga encampments.

Marticar is a white Bog Strider that can patrol around several large lakes in the zone.

Abandoned Adventurer's SatchelFrostweave ClothBorean Tundra

Icehorn spawns by Death's End; can be instantly found after a server reset.

Old Crystalbark, a frosty ancient tree, is located in Coldarra.

Fumblub Gearwind flies around in a helicopter in The Geyser Fields.

Dragonblight

Crazed Indu'le Survivor is an insane Tuskarr who unfortunately paths by the Alliance flightpoint in Star's Rest.

Scarlet Highlord Daion spawns in Scarlet Crusade encampments in eastern Dragonblight

Tukemuth is a mammoth located in the center of the zone by Wyrmrest Temple.

Grizzly Hills

Seething Hate, an ugly fleshbeast, spawns by any three of Vordrassil's corrupted sites.

Grocklar is a stone giant located in the western part of the zone.

Syreian the Bonecarver is a vrykul huntress in the eastern part of the zone.

Howling Fjord

King Ping is a cute penguin located on the western iceblocks by Kamagua that can be found instantly after a server reset.

Vigdis the War Maiden is a vrykul warrior that rides an imposing black protodrake to the east of Nifflevar. She too can be found right after a server reset.

Perobas the Bloodthirster, a worgen prototype, lurks in the foothills in the northern part of the zone. He too can spawn right after a server reset.

Icecrown

High Thane Jorfus, a death knight, can be found patrolling The Fleshwerks, Sindragosa's Fall, and the courtyard by Icecrown Citadel.

Hildana Deathstealer, a val'kyr, floats around Ymirheim and Jotenheim.

Putridus the Ancient is a huge Scourge giant that patrols around the Bombardment and Icecrown Citadel. His hitbox is so big, you can target him from Dalaran.

Sholazar Basin

Aotona, also a tamable bird of prey, is a large version of the Parrot Cage (Hyacinth Macaw). It spawns in central Sholazar.

King Krush, a green tamable devilsaur, mostly spawns by the western ridges in the zone.

Loque'nahak, a gorgeous spotted cat and tamable spirit beast, can spawn in a variety of places around the zone, including near flight paths--making this very difficult to find.

The Storm Peaks

Dirkee is a giant mechanical supergnome located by several Titan temples. Rumor has it he's named after the GM of Nurfed.

Vyragosa, a blue drake, takes an elaborate flight path around the western part of the zone. She also shares a spawn timer with the Time-Lost Proto-Drake, which drops Reins of the Time-Lost Proto-Drake. Of course everyone wants that, so the zone is still farmed.

Zul'Drak

Griegen, an undead that can spawn instantly after a server reset, can spawn by the Reliquary of Agony in the western part of the zone.

Zul'Drak Sentinel, a large version of Voodoo Figurine, patrols the main road in southern Zul'Drak.

Terror Spinner, a tamable spider with a nondescript brown skin, spawns in several areas in the northern part of the zone.

Classic InstancesBlackrock Depths

Panzor the Invincible, a golem whose name means 'tank,' spawns in the Mold Foundry before the seven dwarves. He drops a decent shield for the level: Rock Golem Bulwark.

Blackrock Spire

Bannok Grimaxe is located in the lower-most part of LBRS, normally right before the spider gauntlet. A level 85 can take shortcuts to jump down easily, aggroing all the mobs and dying quickly if he isn't up. He drops the coveted Plans: Arcanite Reaper and a few neat blues like Demonfork.

Burning Felguard is a felguard every warlock wishes they could own. He drops Phase Blade and Demonskin Gloves but the real fun is enslaving him--great for impressing your PuG group. To access this mob, let the Scarshield Warlock cast Scarshield Portal. Mostly, these will be imps but occasionally the felguard will spawn every 5 minutes or so. It's got great AoE with Blast Wave and Thunderclap.

Crystal Fang, a relation of Mother Smolderweb, is located in the Skitterweb Tunnels. He drops Sunderseer Mantle, the basis for Exquisite Sunderseer Mantle, and Fang of the Crystal Spider, the matching weapon to Venomspitter.

Ghok Bashguud is good at bashing in skulls, if Hurd Smasher and Bashguuder are any indication. He's located at the top of the ramp next to Halcyon's Den and likes to lay down on the assorted floormats.

Everyone used to be excited when Jed Runewatcher spawned, but sadly his rares are obsolete thanks to heirlooms--Briarwood Reed was a powerful caster trinket in vanilla. Serpentine Skuller is still a great option for leveling casters. He's located in the main hall after The Rookery, immediately before you jump down to fight in the Hall of Blackhand.

Quartermaster Zigris is marked as a rare, but he's always up which is great since he drops a lot of neat things: Worg Carrier, Design: Black Diamond Crab, Plans: Annihilator. He's located in The Storehouse in Dragonspire Hall.

Spirestone Battle Lord is a commonly-spawning rare in Mok'doom that drops the sadistic-looking oversized razor The Blackrock Slicer.

Spirestone Butcher patrols the corridor to Mok'doom. He rarely drops Rivenspike, an jagged axe with a neat proc that stacked with Sunder Armor.

Spirestone Lord Magus spawns in Mok'doom and drops his signature glowing offhand with flavor text, Globe of D'sak, as well as some other loot for casters.

Gnomeregan

Located in the hallway going to Mekgineer Thermaplugg, Dark Iron Ambassador can drop Emissary Cuffs--the stat allocation is RNG, but if you luck out, they're great. Also drops the formerly stat-less Glass Shooter which has been fortified in Cataclysm.

Scarlet Monastery (Graveyard)

The Graveyard Wing has three rare spawns that can drop some great twink gear. If you don't see them upon reaching the Graveyard, kill straggler mobs which can force them to spawn. These rares can spawn by the two small tombs on the left and right of the main path, as well as inside the main tomb.

Azshir the Sleepless, an ethereal human rogue with an eyepatch, strangely drops great caster gear that can't be replaced with heirlooms: Blighted Leggings, Ghostshard Talisman, and Necrotic Wand.

Fallen Champion, an undead warrior in red plate gear, drops rares that are less useful if you have heirlooms: Ebon Vise, Morbid Dawn, and Embalmed Shroud.

Ironspine, a Scourge fighter, dropped rares that were nerfed in Cataclysm to prevent modifying them with high-level enchants: Ironspine's Ribcage, Ironspine's Fist, and Ironspine's Eye.

Shadowfang Keep

On normal difficulty, Deathsworn Captain spawns right after the 5th boss, Odo the Blindwatcher. He drops some stylish gear: the unique Phantom Armor and the epic-looking Haunting Blade.

Stratholme

One of everyone's favorite rares, Hearthsinger Forresten is a cheerful minstrel whose personality shines through even in undeath. You'll find him by entering Stratholme from the Living side, looking for his three spawn points in Festival Lane or Market Row. His most famous item is the Piccolo of the Flaming Fire, a trinket that causes everyone nearby to break out into dance, but his other items are funny too: the skimpy Woollies of the Prancing Minstrel, neon Rainbow Girdle, and unluckily-itemized Songbird Blouse, also notable for being a piece of armor that resembles a tailoring shirt.

Skul, located by Fras Siabi and Festival Lane, is an angry undead with several items named after him: Skul's Ghastly Touch, Skul's Fingerbone Claws, and Skul's Cold Embrace.

Stonespine, which flies around undead Strat, is a bat who prides himself on the above-average Stoneskin Gargoyle Cape, which served as the inspiration for Worn Stoneskin Gargoyle Cape. Unfortunately, this comment is not longer than the average article descriptions.

The Deadmines

Brainwashed Noble is located outside the instance portal and doesn't drop anything exciting, but he does use Polymorph: Chicken.

Marisa du'Paige, one of Van Cleef's most skilled mages, has a small chance to drop the BoE Walking Boots, the best caster boots before level 19 for Alliance. She's also located outside the instance and wears a strange hybrid version of the Lovely Black Dress.

Dire Maul

Tsu'zee is another reference to Siouxsie and the Banshees, located among the ghosts in Dire Maul West. She drops a few items for casters, most notably Threadbare Trousers which is how your armor feels after a bad PuG. She spawns near Magister Kalendris, who tailors might be farming for Pattern: Big Bag of Enchantment.

Maraudon

Meshlok the Harvester, an elemental near Poison Falls, drops Bloomsprout Headpiece which used to be a great twink item until the stats were reallocated. Also drops a nice chest and cape that can be replaced with heirlooms now.

Razorfen Kraul

Blind Hunter is a rare tamable white bat located pretty far into the instance--having a priest use Mind Vision will save a lot of time. He also drops a good neck for twinks: Stygian Bone Amulet.

Earthcaller Halmgar spawns near Overlord Ramtusk. It drops Whisperwind Headdress which used to be a great twink helm until the requirements were changed to level 30. If you don't have heirlooms though, it's still a nice-looking helm.

While not an elite, Razorfen Spearhide is a rare mob that drops Armor Piercer, another item that used to be great for twinks until the level requirement was upped.

Wailing Caverns

Deviate Faerie Dragon is located in a small room by Lord Pythas. It drops the Feyscale Cloak, which is nice if you don't have a heirloom cape.

Zul'Farrak

Dustwraith, a troll rogue, can spawn near most any boss. His signature item is the off-hand Desertwalker Cane, which is not just any off-hand. It's absurdly large and unlike other offhands, does not vanish outside of combat; it remains on your back.

Sandarr Dunereaver spawns to the south of Gahz'rilla. It's a fairly common spawn (50% of the time) and can drop all the blues that were formerly extremely rare zone-drops--making them fairly easy to farm for some extra gold. They are: Witch Doctor's Cane, Brainlash, Gutwrencher, The Minotaur, Blackmetal Cape, Bloodletter Scalpel, Flaming Incinerator, the awesome-looking Troll Protector, Eyegouger, Runed Ring, and the troll-themed Spellshock Leggings.

Zerillis, located towards the entrance, is a rare I always hoped to find in vanilla for his awesome Sandstalker Ankleguards.

Hunter RaresPetopiaExotic BeastsChimaeras

The Evalcharr is a golden-green rare found to the west of Gallywix's Pleasure Palace in Azshara.

Nuramoc, needed for an achievement, can be located along several island ridges in Netherstorm.

The Razza, formerly besting champions in Dire Maul's arena, has since moved to southeast Feralas. It's a two-headed icy-blue pet with dark blue accents.

Devilsaurs

As covered earlier, King Krush is a rare devilsaur found in Sholazar Basin.

Shale Spider

As covered in our Deepholm section, Jadefang is both sought-after as a hunter tame and for its rare pet.

Spirit BeastsGhostwalkerKaroma

Arcturis, a spectral bear, spawns by Amberpine Ledge in Grizzly Hills. He's out in the open by a flight point, so he'll be easy to find.

Gondria, a light-purple spectral cat, spawns in five locations in northern Zul'Drak.

Loque'nahak, unfortunately needed for Frostbitten, spawns around Sholazar Basin.

Skoll, a lightning wolf, is named for a Norse wolf that in mythology, pursues the sun. It spawns in three places in The Storm Peaks.

Worms

Oozeworm is a bright yellow worm with a black belly located to the west of the Stonemaul Ruins in Dustwallow Marsh.

Beetles

Silithid Harvester, a green beetle, spawns in the Field of Giants by Desolation Hold in Southern Barrens reportedly on a 4-8 hour spawn timer.

Birds of Prey

Aotona, killed by achievement-hunters, is a brilliant blue and purple parrot that can spawn all around River's Heart in Sholazar Basin.

Olm the Wise has had his graphics updated in Cataclysm--he's now a neutral spectral owl (unaffiliated with the Cenarion Circle) that flies around northern Felwood.

Carrion Birds

Spiteflayer is a brilliant yellow carrion bird that spawns south of Nethergarde Keep in Blasted Lands.

Zaricotl is a distinctive white carrion bird with black-tipped wings that spawns south of Dustwing Dig in Badlands.

Cats

Shadowclaw, north of the Ruins of Auberdine, perfectly matches the Reins of the Striped Nightsaber.

Duskstalker, located in southern Teldrassil, perfectly matches the Reins of the Spotted Frostsaber and is on a fast respawn.

Pogeyan, a troll spirit, is a shiny orange cat that spawns by the Bal'lal ruins in Northern Stranglethorn.

As covered earlier, Sambas is a lion that spawns in Twilight Highlands.

Foxes

Ashtail is a cute silvery fox on a short respawn timer south of Mo'grash Stronghold in Loch Modan. It even does an adorable dance on its hind legs.

Gorillas

Tsul'Kalu, another troll spirit in Northern Stranglethorn, is a glowing white gorilla.

Scorpids

We already covered him, but collectors should check out all different colors of Madexx in Uldum.

Wasps

Rex Ashil is a rare black-blue wasp found in Hive Ashi in Silithus.

Zora is a rare orange wasp with blue wings found in Hive Sora in Silithus.

Wolves

Deathmaw has a unique light-brown skin and patrols eastern Burning Steppes.

Old Cliff Jumper, a grey wolf, is located south of Aerie Peak in the Hiterlands.

Zone Rares

Duggan Wildhammer, by the Crown Guard Tower, finds himself in a bit of a predicament. As he explains, upon reaching the Plaguelands: " An' when he did arrive there, what'd his dwarf eyes see? / A hundred crates of barley there ta' be makin' inta' mead! / But tha' mead was cursed with th' plague o' death, and now old Duggan, too. / An' surrounded by the Lich King's beasts, what could old Duggan do? / But though I feel the plague within, my hopes 'ave not yet sunk. / If'n I'm gonna be Scourge anyway, I might as well be drunk!"

Rares like Duke Ragereaver found riding around Stratholme and the Plaguelands are named after WC3 DKs.

Lynnia Abbendis, a retconned relative of High General Abbendis, a major figure in Wrath lore, has met the worst possible fate of the Scarlet Crusade--undeath.

If you have a heart, you won't kill Death-Hunter Hawkspear: he's neutral and runs away when you try to fight. His final words are haunting: "You choose my corpse over another ally against the undead? So be it."

The Unknown Soldier kneels before his own grave in Duskwood--a touching tableau.

Players familiar with the lore of Duskwood won't be surprised to see Eliza visiting her tomb.

Ambermill Spellscribe used to drop Black Tabby Cat in Ambermill; there's contradictory reports on his status after Cataclysm. Ambermill is initially covered in elementals, but after phasing, the town changes.

Lord Sakrasis is miles away from Shadowmoon Valley, but he still wears a Purple Trophy Tabard of the Illidari.

Dr. Whitherlimb, found in Ghostlands, drops several unique low-level items: Banshee Rod, Ghoul Hammer, Abomination Cleaver.

There's a family of worgen in southern Duskwood: Marus, Nefaru, and Fenros.

Narain Soothfancy is alive and well in Tanaris, but Twisted Reflection of Narain haunts his old location, next to the book "Evil Soothsaying for Dummies."

Lady Moongazer pays tribute to the fallen by Ameth'Aran in Darkshore.

Tame members of this cat family in Winterspring by Frostsaber Rock: Sian-Rotam and Rak'shiri.

Nal'taszar flies around the haunted Ruins of Eldareth in Stonetalon Mountains. It's a perfect location because of the nearby Highborne spirits--sprite darters are found all over Feralas near Dire Maul.

Giggler, another reference to the Lion King, is a good partner for Sambas. He's found in northern Desolace.

Fenissa the Assassin, a blood elf spy in Bloodmyst Isle, drops themed gear: Silvermoon Armor, Silvermoon Robes, Silvermoon Tunic.

The Arena in Dire Maul used to feature a rare spawn every 8 hours--it was one of the first encounters to feature rare spawns. Players would rush outside, once they heard the yell, to kill this mob for several blues, including the Orb of Deception. These mobs have since been spread around Feralas.

Varo'then's Ghost was a loyal general of Azshara and helped lead the Highborne to safety in the sea during the War of the Ancients, before Malfurion killed him. Lady Sesspira, a former Highborne, respawns near-instantly; she's good at keeping you company.

Just wanted to add a couple...

Blacksting - firefly in Zangarmarsh has a unique red skin. If I recall correctly, this guy is the object of a quest in the zone, but he is tameable. You can get the quest, tame him and go back and kill him with your tamed version.

some notes on jadefang: Dunno since when, but as of latest few days ya cant die under the ledge and fly up, you lose the mount once ya get intro the cave. or was it just me?.... but finally used the quest and sat there and logged off fer a while, when i got in? i took 1 min to put poisons on my blades and... SPAWN! YAY and really easy kill

How long can it take to find the rares in the Outland for the achievment medium rare i have NPC Scan but cant find them.

There are some awesome skinned wasps in Tanaris and there are basically hundreds of rares in total. I know that ur only mentioning rares not a full on 'I know all the rares but could u broaden the 'range' of some of ur topics?

Blind Hunter in Razorfen Kraul has been replaced by Groyat, the Blind Hunter.
