Got one of these today when I harvested my striped melon.
Planted it, will edit this when it's harvested.
Gave me the Terrible Turnip vanity pet.
Ominous seed has a small chance to drop when harvestng any crop.
anyone knows how rare is this? i got mine on my first harvest and i got it from scallions due to quest
is what I got upon harvesting his seed. I got the seed after three days planting and harvesting.
Just got mine while harvesting Scallions. Seem the cycle is different, the plant is not "Growing", hope i didn't miss anything. I'll update when i have the result.
Confirm : Got the Terrible Turnip, so only had to plant the seed without anything else.
I got the seed from harvesting juicycrunch carrot. I decided to get some cooking ingredients while leveling as well so I have an easier time leveling my cooking. So you don't actually have to be level 90 to get this. I was level 88.
i hit revered with the tillers last night so thought i would plant 8 songbell seed, just got my Ominous Seed today after harvesting the 6th songbell plant. just wanted to confirm that it is possible to obtain it with the "rare plants" not sure if it has an increased drop chance.
Looks like I'll be farming for another pet...
Does anyone know if anything else comes out of this? I got an Ominous Seed when I first started my farm, got the Terrible Turnip too. I'm thinking it may be the only thing that comes out of it. Can anyone confirm other drops?
I just wanted to say that you do not need rep, nor do you need to be 90 to get this seed. I just got this seed on my level 88 pally from a cabbage plant. So if you are 'farming' this plant, use every toon you have level 85+.
For a collector of vanity pets, I have to say I was quite happy to see that this will give me a new one. I wasn't even sure what the seed was for. I got it today while harvesting scallions. If you are waiting to get it, don't give up. I am the first in our guild to get one, and there are some members that have 3 and 4 toons harvesting plants everyday.
Just got this on my lvl 86 belf paladin, off one of a quartet of white turnips.
...As a paladin, he is very suspicious of ominous-looking seeds. He shall plant it, pray over it, water it, and harvest it, and be ready to blast it with the holy power of the Light (and possibly some bug spray) if it looks the least bit dangerous at any stage in the proceedings.
Is this a one-shot, or can you get it more than once?
got this from scallions
You can harvest this more than once per character, so feel free to sell it while it is high. I have received 3 on 2 characters farming daily since the Thursday after Cata release.
I can confirm that you can get multiple of these and they stack. After farming since a few days after the launch i finally got one today. The next patch i cleared also contained one. So yes you can get more than one of these and you can even get them at the same day!
Anyone got a drop % yet?
This pet is a MUST for the avid battle pet collector, as it eliminates accidental killing by crits or triple attacks proccing, due to the use of
It can also be mailed and traded if you already have an one, so can be given to friends (as happened to me, 2 farms, both exalted Tillers, and still no seed).
To give full information though:

- Has no reputation requirement with the Tillers, so can be pulled up by any character able to plant things on their farm

that this can be pulled up multiple times on one character.
Just got an Ominous Seed while harvesting Jade Squash on my level 87 mage who is friendly with the Tillers. My hunter just hit exalted with the Tillers this evening, and in all her farming she has never gotten an Ominous Seed. It seems to be completely random as far as when it drops. Just happy I got one! :)
A friend is telling me you can get this pet/the seed for it from a Tillers Quest, that's how he got his. Anybody know of this quest and how to get it?
Just got my ominous seed by harvesting Witchberries, which Jogu the Drunk also stated would be in season today (November 3, 2012). The seed dropped when I harvested "plump witchberries."
Is ANYONE still getting these anymore? I have farming for weeks now daily trying to get one of these seeds. I am exalted with the tillers, best friends with ALL of them, all 16 farm plots open and planted DAILY and harvested DAILY and... nothing. :( Seemed to me I was hearing people getting these often before they changed the drop rate on the Cloud Serpent eggs and I was wondering if when thy changed that drop rate did they change any others? This is getting really frustrating that I STILL haven't come across ONE Ominous Seed.
Anyone gotten one recently? Thank you.
I've been doing these dailies everyday since four days after launch, and I just now got my first seed. So yes, they do still drop, but it seems to be rather fickle.
Just looted two of these in one evening. One on my main, one on my alt. Within 2 minutes from eachother.
I got this from harvesting either a White Turnip or Juicycrunch Carrot; I only planted the two of these, but wasn't paying attention when harvesting.
Either way, I'm a little overhalf halfway through honored with the Tillers. So, 8 plots/day. (Although I do have two 90s so technically 16 slots/day).
Just got mine from a White Turnip so...wasn't even trying any of the other seeds, just did the daily day before.
Omindous seed can be found when u harvest your crops and it have a small drop rate so its very rare.
Omindous seed will give you the companion Terrible Turnip.
I got mine when i harvested pink turnips.
i got this seed from some carrots its only like my 3rd or 4th harvest so guess im pretty lucky if the drop rate is small
Does anyone know if planting something when Jogu the Drunk says the harvest will be best that day increases your chance of getting this?
I received mine from a Plump Juicycruch Carrot. I think there may be a higher drop chance from plump crops. Can someone else confirm?
Just got my one off a Plump Juicycrunch Carrot plot. Looking forward to testing it out once it finishes growing...
Excellent, got mine this morning. Honoured rep with Tillers with an even mix of Stranger, Buddy and Acquaintance in individual rep.
Got a second today whilst harvesting some windshear cactus. Exhaulted with Tillers and besties with each individual rep.
This needs it's own patch.
Ever since 5.1 dropped I seem to get 2 of these a week farming on all my alts. I've become my guild's turnip farm.
I've been planting Songbell almost exclusively on two toons daily for quite some time. I've never looted a seed of any kind from Songbell. I've talked with others in my guild who also farm daily and their experiences line up with mine.
While this maybe anecdotal and there are some claims that it's possible to get the seeds from Songbell, I don't believe it likely enough for any serious consideration.
It seems more likely that the Ominous Seed drops more readily from other crops that have a good chance of dropping seeds (i.e. seeds used for growing vegetables that are cooking ingredients). I've also noticed while working on
that the high forecast vegetables seem to drop seeds more readily (You might be rolling twice as often for seeds since you first loot a x5 then a x2 for each plant you harvest). However, I don't have a large enough sample size to say for sure that high forecast days are better for seeds and if they are it may only be slightly.
At any rate veggies seem to be the most viable crop to harvest if you're after Ominous Seeds.
Planted 4 Carrots, as my first real harvest
( they took 8 hours, all were "plump juicy" don't know if that's an indicator of drop or not,
second batch is taking 20 hours.).
Picked them this morning and this dropped, status doesn't seem to matter as I am level 88. Little bugger is growing now.
Probably just odd luck, but I've gotten 4 of these thus far, in pairs of 2, back to back. Both occasions have been from plants that Jogu didn't predict.
1 full farm Songbell Seeds, 2 full farms Enigma Seeds - 4+ months farming it every day - ONE Ominous Seed (from the enigma seed). dunno if im just unlucky or if it's supposed to be this way. i think i'm just unlucky.
Terrible Turnip is pretty expensive since it's such a rare piece of crop.
I hate RNG! I have been farming a full set of sixteen plots every day since early November and had no seeds drop. I farmed in beta everyday for a good portion of the beta when farming was available and saw no seeds drop.
Wow. Had to come here to complain about this "drop" as well. I've got 5 toons doing all 16 plots and have NEVER seen this drop. Got one on the AH for 1k.
Got mine from a non-ripe non-Jogu green cabbage after months of harvesting enigma seeds.
Finally got it today i think, on my Warrior who is still working on Tillers rep. I have exalted on all my othet 90's and it never dropped before, go figure.
Just got mine off of a scallion plant. :D
Just got one of these tonight, didn't even know they existed. I've harvested multiple hundreds of plants since MoP came out so it's obviously very rare.
got this seed from a reg witchberry plant after harvesting hundreds of crops on 2 different toons came on here to see what it was only 2 find more people with the same story and some bad puns as it turned out i had already bough the pet on the AH months ago well this certainly turned out to be fruit full
I just farmed this from White Turnips for the Golden Lotus didn't even know it existed! Been farming since MoP release and been farming constantly.
The odds of looting
appears to be vastly improved if you are currently harvesting the crop that was recommended the day before by
As you harvest the recommended crop you can get additional items of that crop, additional seeds of that crop, as well as several other random seeds such as
Just got this today, off a cabbage plant.
I've only been farming daily for about a month, (from first unlocking the farm to growing it fully to now). Had no idea what it was at first, which is probably better, since its a lot less mind numbing to get a surprise drop than to consciously farm something for days to no avail!
Exalted with Tillers, Best Friends with all the NPCs as well. And it was a regular cabbage, not a plump one I got it from.
Also, love how the icon is the same as Seed of Corruption. =)
For what it's worth:
I only received 1 in the past few months, but I am doing 10 4-plot farms 5/7 days a week. I got two seeds today on separate characters.
Oddly enough, I got one of these from my white turnip crop. I've been farming pumpkins for months, for my mage buff food, and this is the first one I've found.
Does anyone know what the drop rate chance is of getting one of these things? I've been farming religiously on two characters, both with 16 slot farms, and never gotten one. I have, however, gotten the Paper-Covered Rock 5 times now. I'd like to throw them at whoever is keeping my seed from dropping >:(
I seriously hate thsi thing. Been farming 3 16 plot toons at least 5-6 times a week since January. before that I used 2 16 plot farms everyday for 2 months. Have yet to see this drop.
I just received this from harvesting striped watermelons. I am only friendly with the Tillers, so I don't think reputation matters, I would think it is all about RNG.
I just got this off harvesting Witchberries. I don't know whether it was recommended by Jogu or not, because I'm not best friends with him and I didn't pay the 25g to check, but I previously have been harvesting
Songbells, daily, for about eight months on my main. Got this one on an alt, and it's only been .... two days of harvesting food mats.
So after reading this post yesterday I tried a little experiment. I have been tending 5 farms over various stages for the past 2 months and I have never harvested an ominous seed. My primary crops were Snakeroot, Magebulb, and Songbells for crafting mats. I asked Jogu what he thought and White Turnips was his prediction, so I planted 5 full farms of this crop. While harvesting a few minutes ago I pulled down 2 ominous seeds. The first one I couldn't confirm but the second one came from a Plump White Turnip. It may be RNG but I recommend you listen to the Drunk.
after 2 months just got ot today
Got it on my 2nd day of farming Pumpkins, from a Plump Pumpkin patch.
They must have increased the drop rate on these since most of the previous comments because I've gotten about 6 of them in the past 2 months.
I have received about half a dozen on these between 4 toons that are exalted with the tillers and none of them have come from the crop of the day. Just got one on my Priest today from Red Blossom Leek and on my server, not sure if crop of the day is game wide or by server, the crop of the day is Mogu Pumpkin.
I'm sure its just random but thought I would share my luck with this seed.
I've been farming for a long time on this game and come to the page to see what rate was. While reading up on it I harvested some cabbage and got it.
I'm farming retroactively with my level 100 goblin to get the Tillers rep. I grind out rare pets/mounts all the time and never have any luck (in fact I swear it seems to take longer than average for me with all the rare drops!). But low and behold the RNG gods were nice to me for once; I just got this today on my fourth day of Pandaren farming - which has never happened so soon before and will never happen again (to me at least).
Helpful info: I've asked Jogu the Drunk his prediction every day and planted accordingly. Yesterday he said "green cabbage" and (sure enough) the seed came from the green cabbage. I'm not saying it's definitely because of that, but being that others on here have noticed a correlation too...I'd say plant whatever Jogu recommends.
I planted this today and all that happened was that the patch of soil has vanished. No crop of any kind, growing or otherwise. No untilled or tilled soil. No pet.
