Welcome to Wowhead's Phase 4 Best in Slot Gear list for Feral Druid Tank in WoW Classic Season of Mastery. This guide will list the recommended gear for Feral Druid Tank from raids, world bosses, dungeons, PvP, professions, world drops, reputations, and instances.
Phase 4 Best In Slot Gear for Feral Druid Tank in Season of Mastery
Below are shown two fully optimized gear sets for Feral tank players in Phase 4 of WoW Classic Season of Mastery. Both sets sample from all possible sources of PvE gear in Phase 4, including quest rewards, drops from both 5-man dungeons and raids, crafted gear, and BoE items. On top of these PvE options, the first set just below includes all available world boss loot and PvP gear as well, including Epic quality ranking gear and Battleground reputation rewards, and is therefore the absolute best possible gear set that can be assembled in Phase 4. As in Phase 1-2, Feral Druids who have the time available to grind out Rank 13 as well as Exalted reputation with all three Battleground factions will be rewarded with a massive power spike in both their Threat generation and survivability. Most notably, the 3-piece combination of the Rank 13 helm with the Rank 12 gloves and pants vastly outclasses all available PvE options in those slots, and will not be replaced until Phase 5! The second gear set below is a more accessible budget option for players who will not be able to put in the significant amount of playtime required for attaining Rank 13 or Exalted Battleground reputations. This set includes only Rare quality PvP rewards and requires attaining only Rank 10 in the Honor system, which is a much more accessible goal for the majority of players. The set also excludes world boss drops, which require a similar level of time commitment as Epic PvP gear to obtain. In this scenario, it is worth targeting just two pieces of the

The highly coveted

trinket (DFT) is the third most impactful upgrade for Druid tanks in Phase 4 (after

), providing a bear with 128 AP equivalent worth of TPS in a single item slot. Feral Druids who are fortunate enough to receive one of these rare trinkets will keep it permanently equipped until the very end of the game, as only

have it beat in TPS output. One downside of this trinket, however, is that the majority of its TPS contribution comes from Hit, which means that gear sets utilizing DFT are often forced to give up other high value Hit items (such as the

set) in order to not exceed the 9% Hit cap.
After DFT,

are the best Threat and mitigation trinkets in Phase 4, respectively, but you will unfortunately have to choose between the two, as they are both rewards from the same pre-raid quest. Both of these trinkets provide very high value for their respective roles (TPS/DPS vs. mitigation), so there is no wrong choice here - either option can be correct depending on your raid environment and tanking role. If you will be DPSing often in your raid group or are tanking for very competitive DPS players, then

is likely the better choice. Otherwise, for tanking specifically,
暴君印记
is the longer lasting of the two trinkets, as it remains situationally BiS for heavy mitigation scenarios throughout all of Classic, whereas
黑手饰物
is eventually replaced by superior DPS trinkets. If you opt for
黑手饰物
, then
浓烟山脉之心
is the best alternative mitigation trinket to use in lieu of
暴君印记
, but requires the Enchanting profession to craft. Conversely, if you opt for
暴君印记
, then the best alternative Threat trinket in Phase 4 is

but is unfortunately restricted to only Horde players.
Unlike the first iteration of WoW Classic,

is
not
a competitive Threat trinket option for bears in Season of Mastery. This is because the 400 ms batch window in original Classic meant that the extra attacks from HoJ procs could be queued as Mauls rather than auto-attacks if the player was spamming their
bind when the proc occurred. Due to the removal of spell batching in Season of Mastery, this interaction is no longer possible, and HoJ procs exclusively generate white attacks that do not benefit from the inflated damage and Threat modifiers for
.
Finally, note that when tanking trash packs that are chain pulled,

outperforms all of the above trinkets and should be permanently equipped. When you are either tanking multiple mobs simultaneously or progressing rapidly from one pack to the next, your average uptime for the

will be very high, and the resulting buff boosts both your TPS and survivability significantly. The trinket is especially powerful if you are able to get a proc on the final trash mob just before a boss pull, as the buff will then be active for a significant fraction of the subsequent boss fight.

is the most important consumable for Feral Druids by a landslide, so expect to farm a ton of these over the course of Season of Mastery if you intend to raid competitively as a Feral. No other weapon comes remotely close in value, as MCP alone contributes
over 40%
of your total TPS!
MCPs are so efficient in terms of TPS added per time spent farming that it is preferable to use literally no other consumables but come to raid with a full set of Pummelers, rather than stacking every other tanking consumable with a conventional weapon.
For Horde raids without
, full MCP uptime should be considered a hard requirement for keeping aggro on raid bosses in even a somewhat competitive raid group. Alliance bears can technically get away without Pummelers, but should still always use at least one charge at the start of each boss pull in order to secure a solid early Threat lead and mitigate pull variance.
For most players, MCPs will be used exclusively for boss fights, as it can be impractical to farm and carry sufficient quantities for trash usage as well. As a result, assuming you are not Rank 14,

Counterweights are substantially better for bears than the alternative 25 Agility weapon enchant, whereas the opposite is true for cat DPS. Somewhat counterintuitively, the 3% Haste buff applies to your melee attacks while shapeshifted, and scales multiplicatively with both the 50% Haste from MCP as well as the three 1% Haste armor enchants. Counterweights are also quite cheap to craft, so it is actually practical to apply one to each of your Pummelers every week without breaking the bank. Because of this, taking the Blacksmithing profession can be a big quality of life boost for Feral Druids, allowing you to craft and apply your own Counterweights every week.

The only tanking Idol option throughout Classic WoW is

, which was available right at launch in Season of Mastery, compared to only Phase 5 previously. Be sure to pick this up as soon as possible after reaching the endgame, as it will be one of your most impactful item slots for TPS (after

I've seen people claim that

I've been doing a lot of dungeon tanking and pre-raid tanking on a feral druid and I've used this guide almost exclusively for pre-raid BiS and in phase two, but I have an issue with it, which is that it doesn't consider the 9% hit cap. Without at least 5% you miss A HELL of a lot in dungeons and it can piss off your dps or make your run go sour fast. It's quite normal to miss a maul and have a taunt resisted, or even miss multiple swipes. It's not as bad in 40m raids raids in which your group will actually listen if you say you need a few seconds to build rage/aggro. I think at least for dungeons (especially with good dps in the group), the

And of course if you have been doing PVP since launch and hit rank 10, that blue set is great for tanking.
PHASE 4 UPDATE: Have been doing a lot of raid tanking in MC, BWL and ZG and have to say that having 9% hit on your main set is even more important than ever for threat. And when you have to wear an alternate set for a boss like Ragnaros or Firemaw, you can compensate by using a

You're comments about the Hand of Justice are incorrect. You are able to queue up a maul after a proc, making your extra swing become a maul. Whether or not this makes HoJ worth including on the list/it's placement on the list, is another debate. But HoJ procs CAN become a maul, if you are constantly spamming/queuing maul. Which you are supposed to be doing if you are playing correctly. Even with KoTS/pummeler active; if you have the rage, your extra swing will become a maul, if queuing/spamming correctly. Anyone with HoJ can test this and also confirm this to be true.
Also, the comments about counterweight vs 25 agi to Warden Staff/Unyielding Maul: Those are mitigation weapons. If you are min/maxing your play, you would want 25 agility on those. Whether warden's or Maul is better, is another debate. 3% haste is irrelevant in a scenario where you are wanting the extra mitigation from one of these armor weapons. When you are equipping either of these, you are wanting to SURVIVE. You are wanting mitigation. We are able to swap weapons in combat. If you want threat from a weapon, start with a pummeler. If you want mit from a weapon or feel the need to have extra mit, mid battle.. swap to Warden's/Maul.. It's essentially like tossing on a shield. The moments in which you would need or want to use a Warden's Staff or Unyielding Maul, you are not concerned with nor will the 3% haste make any difference whatsoever. Not compared to the extra health/armor/dodge that you gain by enchanting these mitigation weapons with 25 agility. If for some reason we were unable to swap weapons mid-fight, then an argument could be made to use a counterweight.
