Should always be up, use it like a warriors battle or command shout and don't let it down. Adds a large amount of DPS from both raw AP, and Critical Rating. Also adds a fair amount of Avoidance through Forced Deflection and raw Agility.

As of WoLK, this ability will be the equal of a Shaman's Strength of Earth, which has a flat boost to both Strength and Agility. The two will not stack, though the Shaman totem can become stronger with talent points.

Unless the Shaman has specced into Enhancing Totems (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=52456), then the totem will overwrite this buff.

As a raider I have Enhancing totems and I drop the 10% AP bonus talent (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=30811) so that the DK can use their Abomination's Might (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=53138)

Using this ability will overwrite any 30 minute Scroll of Agility/Strength buffs placed upon the deathknight or those partied with him/her. In end game raiding, this makes temp buff scrolls from Inscription completely useless.

Since 4.01 all scrolls are now considered "Elixirs" and as such now stack with Horn of Winter.

If theres an enhancement shammy in the group this is only necessary if mobility is an issue, as https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=58643 will provide more strength and stamina through the https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=52456 talent and also lasts 5 minutes instead of only 2.

Will be slightly changed to GIVE you 10 RP, but have a 30 sec cooldown. That means you can actually use it to GENERATE Runic Power instead of having to spend it.

Blizzard really broke the point of this spell.
It was designated as a "Battle Shout" type of spell for the party/raid so that Deathknights can bring more to the table than just damage.

However now, ALL DEATHKNIGHTS need this in their rotation and to use it every single time that 20 second cooldown is done for the extra runic power. There isn't even a point of getting the Glyph for this Spell considering that you wont need the extra minute duration anymore.

I do believe they will smarten up and return this to how it was before.
(Whats next? Giving Battle/Commanding Shout hand out 10 Rage?)

Having trouble casting Horn of Winter when there are other Death Knights that have the ability glyphed, and you don't?

You can use this macro to immediately cancel the other HoW and cast yours:

/cast Horn of Winter

If you don't know how to make a macro, type /macro in chat, click on the "New" button, name the macro, select the red ? icon, click okay and copy/paste the code above in the chat box. Drag the icon into your spell bars, click exit and you're done.

I have noticed, when used outside combat it doesnt generate 10, but 6-7 runicpower. Even I would count losing the RP outside combat, it should still give 9. Anyone else noticed same?

Why would you really bother with casting it yourself when someone else has it for 3min.
Only reason I can think of this is for the small 10 RP.

10RP per cast off the GCD, in your rotation.

I don't even play a DK and I see how this is a very good thing.

I'm going to guess because this buff has a 20 second cool down, lasts for 2 minutes, does not cost any resources and generates 10 runic power that it's beneficial to keep blowing the horn.

As stated earlier, if you have an Enhancement Shaman in your group (those goofy looking guys with the two weapons), you don't need to use this unless you want to generate that extra RP; Strength of Earth will overwrite HoW.

If you have a Shaman in your group who is NOT Enhancement, however, they should be using a different totem than SoE, because they likely aren't talented for the bonus to the totem. Try whispering or asking politely if you can have Stoneskin instead and give your reasoning. It will improve your party if nobody's using something they don't need. As a Restoration Shaman, I take out Stoneskin whenever there's a DK in my party, simply because I expect that they'll be handling the HoW's (and they should be).

I would just like to note that if you have the Master of Ghouls talent, your Ghoul will also benefit from this spell.

EDIT: Now that Master of Ghouls is an Unholy spec only ability, this is no longer true. The Ghoul no longer benefits from Horn of Winter.

I am here to talk about the Aggro this horn pulls. Because nobody said it on this site....like example: The tank in a 5man pulls mob to him as he is doing it, the DK uses his Horn of Winter....this aggro's the mob to the DK...then if it was a warrior tank he can just thunderclap and the mob is back on tank..... reply or add new if you find anymore ,IAJ

Considering the changes that happened to Blood DK (tanking) using this off cooldown is very viable, at least on live, so far.

The game is no longer "fill-all-GCDs" but "watch it!", and runic power will fuel runes, and runes will fuel runic power. That said, blowing it 15 seconds or so before you pull, right out of combat, and anytime in between is a good way to keep the buff up as well as acquire that extra RP which will help you get another Rune strike in there, and hopefully get a sleeper rune back from the coffin for more threat/survivability

It is. The 4.3.3 buff map is incorrect showing it as 10% AP.
