A great spell for a destro warlock. Most useful in raids/groups where there is a mage or elemental shaman present to really benefit the DPS of the whole group. The duration of the spell is another bonus because it usually lasts for the length of a typical dungeon fight.

The penetration component of the spell is really only useful in certain situations, as most world mobs dont have much resist.

This a good spell to cast on a fellhunter to banish it, the fellhunter has real high resitances, just spam this till it hits then banish.

Could possibly be used against a rogue in cloak of shadows, but good luck getting it to hit, and rogues normally vanish after CoS anwway.

In 25-man Malygos, after the platform is shattered and you fall and land on your drakes, have one Warlock fly close to Malygos and -- as soon as Malygos is targetable again -- dismount and cast Curse of the Elements on him while falling. This will mean one drake less to do damage, but the increased magic damage for everyone else may make this sacrifice worth it. Especially, of course, if that particular Warlock was incidentally slacking with stacks in phase 3 anyway. ;-)

Don't bother with this in 10-man Malygos, you will need all the drakes you can get.

Important note:
This does buff DoTs already on the target retroactively. Knowing this might change your rotation slightly in certain PvE and PvP situations both. You don't need to worry about getting this debuff on the target before putting down DoTs like Immolate or Corruption for them to take on the extra damage in the long-run.

(Other debuffs are also retroactive such as Haunt and Shadow Embrace, but buffs seem to not be retroactive such as Death's Embrace, Pyroclasm, and trinket /use effects.)

The DK and moonkin equivalent only give 13% more magic damage taken, but what about resistances?

Reduces Arcane, Fire, Frost, Nature and Shadow resistances by 165.

Doesn't that make this debuff better than the others? Or is that reduction so little that it won't matter in terms of dps?

The magic damage bonus at lvl 85 drops down to 8%, while it is now 13% coe, sad.

This is probably a stupid question, but bear with me as I am new to the class. Won't this spell, besides the nerfing of resistances, make your target take 8% more damage from spells such as shadow bolt, searing pain etc., as they are magic damage?

It's already been mentioned before that Master Poisoner (assassination rogue) also adds the 8% increased spell damage to the target as well. This DOES include spell damage from the rest of the raid. BUT keep in mind that is the only benefit from that spell "for the whole raid". I.e. there is no spell resistance debuff for the raid like there is with Curse of the Elements (ALL warlocks). Same goes with Ebon Plaguebringer (unholy dk) Earth and Moon (balance druid) Fire Breath (hunter's dragonhawk) and Lightning Breath (hunter's wind serpent). They all have personal buffs/debuffs for their class or else nothing extra at all. "NO EXTRA" raid debuff.

So this being said, the warlock's version is superior to the rest, and it can be casted regardless of their spec as it is a trained spell.
