If you've already completed these quests pre-shattering, you may have trouble getting Sputtervalve to start this quest chain for you. I spoke with a GM who mentioned that it was a known issue, and that I should check back after each patch.

Note that the derrick/platform in the middle of the pond in the Sludge Fen is not the site for this quest. Even though there is a control room and everything else that looks as described in the Samophlange Manual, you can't interact with any of it. It took me a while to figure out I was in the wrong place.

Why Blizz did this is beyond me. The actual Samophlange is at a much smaller facility at 50.3, 25.7 on the Norhern Barrens map.

You do go up onto this platform to get the key for the quest "Ignition" Ignition, which you then take to back to Wizzlecrank's Shredder Wizzlecrank's Shredder nearby. He will then lead you west towards your destination for Samophlange .

This quest to access the control console 4 years ago had the title "Samophlange". 2 years ago with another alt the title was still "Samophlange". The next 3 quests in the chain have the same name too.

The quests I see changed are the new Samophlange Repair QID 14003, and Read the Manual QID 14006, which used to be called Samophlange Manual QID 3924.

The old Samophlange quest description before being changed was,

"The Venture Company set up a small research facility far to the north of here, southwest of the Sludge Fen. I don't know very much about what they're doing, but did manage to discover that they're experimenting with something called a "samophlange".

Now what the heck is a samophlange? Well, whatever it is, I want to examine it, so I need someone to go get it.

I obtained a copy of their control system operating manual, you should be able to figure out how to disengage the samophlange from it."
