this is currently bugged. everytime your pet is reloaded, such as after a flight or zoning it will turn on cower. make sure you check your pet spellbook every time.

In case you came here to seek why is your tank pet "autocasting" this skill - remember that Growl shares cooldown with Cower, so it might look like your pet keeps using Cower while he's actually using Growl. I fell for that myself :p

Also if possible put Cower on your pet skills bar, pet abilites have the annoying habits of setting themselves back to autocast if you leave them in skillbook.

when your soloing, this spell is useless unless your trying to raise your expertise defense, because that's all you'll really get out of it.

in dungeons/raids, well there's better things that your pet should be dumping its focus on. and you hardly ever hear, if at all, your party members saying "turn cower on" rather than "turn growl off".

overall, pretty much a waste of space in your spellbook =\

Pet skill completely redesigned in patch 3.3.0. Blizz must've realized pets (without Growl on) won't really out-threat any tanking class :P

45 sec. cooldown
Your pet cowers, reducing damage taken by 40% for 6 sec. While cowering, your pet's movement speed is reduced by 50%.

The 2-pt. Improved Cower talent for ferocity pets only reduces the movement speed penalty.

This gives all pets a damage mitigation cooldown similar to the tenacity pet Turtle's Shell Shield; whether this is enough for wolf/devilsaur pets to tank the last 2% of a boss, time will tell.

But now turtles have a 2nd cooldown, hmmm.

In 3.3 the Cower bug is still alive and kicking in a different way now. It does not auto-cast. I'm reporting this to Blizzard.

It's off GCD, you can macro it with Dash or Dive if you don't have Cower talented.

Seems to me that Blizzard has made pets smarter and smarter at using their own abilities. Other than turning off growl when working with a competent tank, I generally trust my pet to use his talents while I focus on mine. That's how it should be, I think - tell your pet who and when to attack, but not blow-by-blow when to claw and when to duck.

I do keep Heart of the Phoenix on hot-key because pet can hardly make that decision, and I've added Rabid to my Scary Monster/I win macro so that pet will use it even when not under threat (e.g., working with tank again). Other than that, I let him spend his own focus while I spend mine.

If you put Cower on autocast (right-click it), it now autocasts when your pet has 40% health or less. Cower has a 31.5 second cooldown when you place 3 points in Longevity.

If you're using the Turtle pet, and put its special family ability Shell Shield on autocast, it will autocast when your turtle has 50% health or less. Shell Shield has a 42 second cooldown when you place 3 points in Longevity.

Combined, they make the Turtle pet into a neat little emergency tank with some very decent survivability cooldowns.

All you have to do is right click on it... this stops this (and any) ability from automatically happening. Then u left click it like any spell to use, or right click to toggle the auto on again.

this is the most useless spell ever for a pet in my opinion... you want your pet to tank for you not lose aggro...
and in the few cases you don't put growl off...
and if it is dying just use mend pet...

had it on my Crag Stalker and have tested it...
