This spell has 2 big problems:
a) It's magic.
b) It has a spellgraphic, a very unique one.

In PvE, this is kickass-awesome. In PvP, be very careful when to use it, and realize in 99% of cases it's more effective to play defensive in PvP even if you're specced/geared for damage. Hence, don't waste Forbearance on this if you know it'll just be dispelled/stolen.

I just think its wierd how the tooltip say nothing about giving you forbearence, they should update that.

Also, they should update the tooltip on the divine shield and blessing of protection to tell you about the avenging wrath.

Plus i would really love to see the forbearence be removed like archangel said. I am going to have to test that with a warlock friend of mine :-) (Thanks for the tip archangel)

Does this +30% apply after or before spell damage bonuses?

For example, you have 300 spell damage, and your Judgement of Command hits for a maximum of 504(stunned/incapped). With spell damage, that becomes a maximum of 633. Does AW change your maximum to 783(before spell damage) or 822(after)?

Great in arenas,everyones got to hate the Ret pallie in S1 gear killing you in your S2/S3 gear.
I hate how S3 holy pallies kill me with this but still great for evocation against the curator to do lots of damage!

I believe this spell is casted mostly just for look then actual use in combat. It does have a nice feature in combat for protection paladins and retribution paladins and especially helpful for a holy paladin fighting off a ganker or a mob. But, honestly, I seen more paladins cast this in cities and shout random things like 'Redbull gives you wings!' and several more dance with this. I have seen my fair share of paladins dancing naked with wings for the 'cool' look or taking screenshots.

after i geared up my retri pally and gained more survivability i have found myself to pop this more than my bubble....

in bg's i usually the <<resto druid burster>> judge with justice laugh at him as u run faster (+15%) than him in travel form and nuke his ass down

especially useful against healers like disc priest, resto shaman, and resto druid (ofc stunned in caster form)

bubble wont help u down a resto druid... with u will at least make him use his HOLY #$%^ button (nature swiftness)

as a mage, I like to steal it and buff myself and use a damage trinket and arcane power so make a nice crit by instant pyro abuot 10k on a player.... but its a very rare chance...

GC posted that Avenging Wrath might be buffed up in the next patch (3.1). That it will no longer cause Forbearance. Instead it will be on a shared small cooldown with Divine Shield (etc.).

I dont know if this has been said yet, but when things got super tough in hyjal and sometimes shiraz I would use

Avenging Wrath + Lay of Hands on the MT, 20-24k Heals really do save the day,

and with Wotlk and druid tanks having up to around 45k hp, this combo will see more use in raids when things go badly.

Since a very nontrivial amount of our DPS is Holy and not based off of weapon damage (SoB/C notwithstanding), and Hysteria only affects physical damage. That means we would only benefit from it for our white swings (and SoB/C by proxy) as well as CS and DS.

The only forms of non-physical DPS a paladin has is Consecration and any Judgement OTHER THAN Martyr/Blood or Command; M/B and Command are treated as Physical attacks, thus why they can be parried and blocked (run Recount or a similar program for a while and you can see this trend).

Except that if you have purify or cleanse in a convenient spot like I do, poison will usually be dispelled so fast that if you blink you'll miss the green wings.

As mentioned by almost everyone, this is able to be dispelled by everyone and their brother. That being said, if you want to use this in pvp and get atleast a global or so off (hopefully) macro it in with hand of salvation or freedom. The latter is not a great idea, but the goal is to get another "trash" buff onto you so that when people spam purge/dispell/spellsteal it takes them another global or so to get your wings off.

something like

/cast Hand of Salvation
/cast Avenging Wrath

should do the trick in bgs, note that in pve applications you may want to use the non macro'd version so as to not waste a salv that may be needed later by you or a group mate.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but each of the three Paladin specs has a talent to reduce Avenging Wrath's cooldown by 60 seconds.

When I noticed this I thought of the following query:
Wouldn't it make more sense to give Avenging Wrath a baseline 2 minute cooldown if all the Paladin specs are meant to have a 2 minute cooldown by the time they learn Avenging Wrath at level 72?

In my opinion, there is no reason to have talents that reduce the cooldown of Avenging Wrath by 60 seconds if Paladin's aren't likely to experience a 3 minute cooldown by the time they learn the spell. It is far more logical to have the baseline cooldown be 2 minutes and Paladin talents ignore Avenging Wrath's cooldown altogether.

While I tend to agree that currently this seems relatively redundant, the first thing to be noted is that the 60 second reduction is taken in 20/30 second increments per point for a maximum of 3/2 talent points. The second important difference is the variation of the talents. Holy (20pt req) > Prot (25pt req) > Ret (15pt req). These also, as indicated, appear at different tiers in their respective talent trees. Avenging wrath is the paladin's berserk and it's use varies under the different conditions, ie Holy paladin burst heal, prot threat gen, and ret burst DPS. It should also be observed that ONLY the ret talent changes the mechanics of Avenging Wrath by activating Hammer of Wrath above the 20% health "execution" point.

From Blizzard's standpoint, they may also have included the program line in order to tweak the mechanics later. Already the talent is effectively strongest for Holy as each point reduces the cooldown by 30 seconds, instead of 20 in the case of ret and prot.

Good observation though, I had not noticed this until reading your comment, so I uprated accordingly =D

I am surprised nobody mentioned this earlier, but here it is:
BEWARE: Dispel type: magic. Guess what that means? This spell can be Spellstolen by mages!
I personally as a frost mage love when palas pop this in arenas and give me a 20% damage buff - not to mention the look of a troll mage with a pair of wings =P.

For anyone stuck with the "Old Animation" Via the and unable to remove it Via Vanishing Powder:
I was running into a problem wherein the Glyph was NOT visible/removable but was still being applied to wings regardless to what talent i took.
To fix this, i bought a new glyph and applied it to Avenging Wrath and was then able to remove it from the spell.
Thus fixing it to receive the new wings animation.

For PvP, this is the spell to track for Ret Pally opponents' burst, so you know when to pop defensive cooldowns. Addons like OmniBar can be configured for this (Stoopzz has a video guide on it, EASY Addons That Will Improve Your PvP Gameplay.) Ret Pally's PvP talent Aura of Reckoning, aura Retribution Aura, or Holy Pally's talent Awakening also have the same "wings" effect, but don't last as long as 20 seconds.

For PvE, Avenging Wrath, now off GCD since 9.0, can be macro'ed to make paladin's gameplay less overwhelming.

1. Prot Paladins can combine this into Avenger's Shield. For instance:

/cast Avenging Wrath
/cast Avenger's Shield

Automatically pop the wings before shield toss, but can mouse right-click to cast shield toss without the wings.
Avoid accidentally popping the wings if no target or the target is dead.

2. Ret Paladins can combine this into Templar's Verdict and Divine Storm. For instance:
