Oddly, this hits harder in my tank spec than my ret spec, which is odd if it's based on AP. How does that work for spellcasters, anyway?

If the target dies before the 3 seconds elapse the beam doesn't fire, which is bad if you were going to blast a large group and get overrun instead cuase the target died a second early.

Because this scales rather well, this is powerful enough to compensate entirely for the otherwise lack of offensive racials.

It's a lot of damage, as long as the target is alive it will deal damage to all enemies in range. It can one-shot leveling mobs quite easily, and deal heavy damage to questing mobs.

In comparison to the only other flat deal damage on a cooldown racial, Rocket Barrage, Light's judgement is so far above it you'd think Blizzard hates goblins, as the goblin racial is never worth using, and goblins instead get their dps boost from the 1% haste racial.

This is not like that, this will deal a ton of damage for a racial, and perhaps more importantly, it's generic enough to scale with a suprisingly large number of abilities.

Anything that gives a flat damage done to target or damage dealt by you will boost this, so Arms warriors get a big boost, while fury would get a boost if it hits while enraged. It's unclear right now if it matters more what your stats are when it hits or when it's cast, but I'd wager it's the latter, considering the nature of it. ((Edit: It might no longer get boosts from class damage scaling, I can confirm it no longer works with Ret mastery at least))

Don't write this off as another "deal like two damage on a long cooldown" Racial like some others have, this is your primary dps reason to be a lightforged.

Now that I'm done talking about it mechanically, visually it looks badass, and it really helps remind you that regardless of class or specialization, all lightforged know holy magic, but unlike Exodar draenei, they wield it to smite the wicked instead of heal the weak.

A note to fellow Discipline Priests: At time of writing, this spell does appear to activate Atonement on all targets hit. This alone could potentially make Lightforged Draenei a strong race for Disc Priest, particularly those interested in M+, because it gives us A) another strong nuke alongside Light's Wrath to use for burst healing, and B) a hefty AoE nuke to help burst down big pulls.

I've yet to find out exactly how hard it hits at 110, but when I do, I'll update this comment.

EDIT: At 110, ilvl 967, LJ's tooltip states it'll hit for 1.6 million damage. In practice it's hitting each mob for around 1.3mil, but oddly, I'm only getting about half the Atonement healing I should out of it (300k or so healing rather than a bit over 50% of damage, about 600k). Will continue testing.

EDIT2: Can confirm that, in niche scenarios, LJ can do some really insane HPS via Atonement. Will it ever be both necessary and in that situation? Prooobably not. The only case I've found in Legion so far is Fortified + Teeming M+ weeks in Maw of Souls, where there's a second Mariner on the deck of the ship--you can pull him and a bunch of other trash to cleave Atonement healing from, either with this or AoE trinkets like Terminus Signaling Beacon.

EDIT3: HEADS UP FOR BFA: At time of writing, on the BfA beta, the Atonement interaction with Light's Judgment is gone, along with trinket damage procs. While disappointing, I was expecting this given how hard Discipline can exploit this racial and AoE on-use damage trinkets. It was limiting Blizzard's design space and forcing them to balance/design trinkets around one spec out of 36 that could potentially exploit it. Have fun while you can!

Unfortunate thing about this when playing my MM hunter. The range doesn't increase with our mastery. So many times you have to move forward to cast and then back up again if you want to be a max range. A small inconvenience but it's something.

To clear up some confusion; this racial affixes a hidden debuff on your current target upon use and makes the target explode after 3 seconds, damaging the target itself and all enemies around it within 5 yard radius. It is NOT a target area placement ability and it does NOT stun your target.

This racial is also a fully functional Holy Spell and Damage Ability and therefore will trigger any passives your class/spec gets from unspecified damaging abilities and/or holy damage spells. For example as mentioned below: Works with Discipline Priest's Atonement (the healing part).

Its visual effect is the exact same as the Vindicaar's Light's Judgement ability.

Due to the mechanical nature of the spell, this effect's damage can still be lost before it triggers if Your target dies. So if you want to AoE down a group of targets, don't kill the main target too fast :)

I will also note that this racial scales with just about any flat damage/main stat increase buff in the game and scales extremely well. I've seen some insane numbers on my fury warrior, under perfect circumstances reaching as much as 80 MILLION damage to a single PvE target (LOL). And before you call me out on that number. This was under the effects of every single buff/proc I had access to at the time.

Some of which were:

Dragon Roar
Frothing Berserker
Mastery: Unshackled Fury + Enrage (This gets seriously high if you stack it)
Avatar
Concordance of the Legionfall
Unrivaled Strength (of which I had 8 traits at the time)
Not including trinkets as I don't even remember what those were sadly.

Other classes may experience different results :)

As of 08/15/2018, this ability is now reduced by 50% in pvp. Not exactly useless, but not entirely worth spending a GCD on it either. What's the reasoning for this?

First off as others have said, this is AMAZING for levelling. Just remember that whoever you target is, has to SURVIVE for 3s, especially in a large group it can be easy to lose track. I'd initially seen a lot of ppl saying that the usefullness of this spell takes a nosedive past lvl85 or so. NOT TRUE. My tankadin is lvl113 fighting other 113 mobs, and for normal mobs it takes off anywhere between 30-50% of HP (remember it's aoe, so that's like 40% off the HP for ALL mobs in area) - depending on how you time it with your other buffs etc. Rares and elites, ofc, it's about 5-10%. Which may not sound like much, but as a tankadin - Considering it's 2.5min CD, it's VERY comparable (even at 113) to DPS CDs from other classes/specs.

Frankly, i use it ALL the time, it's become part of my regular rotation, as if it were a regular short term DPS cooldown.

that being said, IT IS a bit wierd though - the actual effect can be VERY easy to miss especially in all the flashy lightshow that usually goes on with a large aoe fight, and MORE SO if you're used to (and keep half expecting) this to be like the vindicaar's ability it's clearly modelled after. AND the fact that it's targetting on person and not area can be you CAN certainly and WILL "miss" a good number of times (i.e. your actual target dies, while other mobs in the aoe zone may still be alive, but AoE doesn't go off anymore cuz target has died). Also note: aggro does NOT happen until the ability HITS.

I REALLY wish they'd make this area targetted.

After some testing, I found that there might have been some changes to this racial. It is no longer affected by buffs such as "+X% Damage Done", and is also not affected by debuffs such as "+Y% damage taken" on the target. Probably to avoid it being too strong to certain classes, particularly Retribution Paladins and Warriors in general.

The damage is decided by Attack Power/Spell Power. It can crit. Therefore, it's affected only by the following:

Main Stat
Versatility, I guess it works by changing your AP/SP internally? Idk but it works
Critical Strike
Mastery, but only if the mastery increases attack/spell power, such is the case of tanks.

Additionally, it doesn't snapshot your stats when you cast it. It decides the damage during the explosion itself, so you can increase your stats while waiting for the animation to end. While it's not affected by things such as Enrage or Mastery: Highlord's Judgment, because it's not affected by "+% damage done" buffs, it can still be affected by buffs that increase your damage indirectly, such as , which is particularly powerful for protection paladins (it gains the benefit from Versatility, from Critical Strike and specially from Mastery). You can also increase the power of this racial through usage of trinkets that grant those stats and using potions, such as Vial of Animated Blood or Battle Potion of Strength. I don't think t's affected by any buff that does not modify your character sheet, for instance Avenging Wrath: it says it gives you +20% critical strike chance as protection, but that's not added to the sheet. I was, however, unable to test this since it's on a 2.5-minute CD and to be certain whether it was working or not I'd need to use it a lot on a lot of targets. Looking through my M+ logs, which are as close to real-world usage as I have, it seems to crit at the same rate of the character sheet - which is around 30% with the buff up, and since I always make sure to cast it with wings and seraphim, it's very likely wings are not counting, but I can't be certain of that since I don't have a big enough sample size. I am certain that the Damage increase portion of the wings doesn't work, that part was easy to test since it's not RNG.

Here's a log to a Tol Dagor +8 in which I intentionally made huge pulls to take the most advantage of Light's Judgment:

A total of 1.57M damage, with 7 casts. One of those was wasted on the barrel lady because I hate her face. And one was wasted on last boss because the run was over when it came up. So there's a lot of room to optimize this further. I'm also undergeared and a newbie reroll, so probably someone who's more used to prot can do even better.

I think even optimizing a character for this doesn't really do much on single target fights, though having crits near 100k is not by any means bad, that's 10 seconds of tank ST in one GCD, but it's pretty darn nice for AoE. I always get sad when I see Lightforged who won't use their Judgment.

Secret passive on this, that i just found while soloing Nax for a transmog im trying to get. If you use this skill on a boss, and it kills said boss the cd resets on the skill. i tried it on the trash and it keeps the cd, so its not just elites its bosses. Not sure if its only raid bosses or if its any kind of boss but so far the cd has reset on each 10 man raid boss in nax. I'm going to try a few other instances and see if it works there and reply to this message.

Please note that neither Light's Reckoning nor Light's Judgment benefit from Mastery: Highlord's Judgment provided by Retribution Paladins.
Mastery: Highlord's Judgment only affects paladin-specific abilities and has no interactions with racial abilities.
