The NPC we'll have to kill in this quest isn't a new entry,he's been around since the war of the ancients (wowwiki link http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Hakkar_the_Houndmaster ) , not saying anything directly about his whereabouts to avoid spoilers.

I found the 2 adds and then especially Hakkar very difficult to kill as a MM hunter on beta. He hits like a truck and the chances of pulling extra dogs while kiting are too high.

Changed 1st tier talent out of Lone Wolf and used a pet (specc'ed tenacity to be safe). It made the encounter trivial and boring :)

Give it a go if you're struggling with it.

This quest was very, very hard to do for me as a MM hunter (830 ilvl) until I found the right way to do it.

Hakkar had around 21 mil HP and hit my pet for around 100k per hit. I really recommend having a pet and a Black Arrow for this one.

Sidewinders kept hitting the other Felhounds around and this was the main issue as they are annoying, hit hard and have 2.5m HP.. Try starting the encounter on opposite side of where Khadgar is standing.and kite Hakkar up to the biggest portal (this one doesn't spawn adds) so you can be safe from accidentaly pulling them.

After that, it is easy with constant Mend pet and Black Arrow.

I don't get why we celebrate beating Hakkar, he's a demon, he'll just come back.

Khadgar acts like we did some incredibly important thing, but this was actually pointless.

Did this as a SV hunter. It's very easy to heal a tenacity pet through Hakkar's attack, and it even dodges the telegraph on it's on without player input.

Compared to what I see/read in other class campaigns, the hunter one feels very, very underwhelming and anti-climatic. Despite the massive precautions we did in the quests prior, none if it seems to play a role in the actual scenario.

Did this today as BM... ridiculously easy. Avoid all the ads... they will eat your face.
Take down the two mutts in the middle first to activate Hakkar.
I just kept him in the middle of the room and tossed the odd heal to my spirit beast (ferocity) and burned him down.
Avoid using multi-shot as to not agro any of the surrounding ads.
Wasn't difficult at all.

Goodday all

First, of all credits, for the person on the forrum, who said, go down the "hole" (little @ the left in the center) in Violet. Hall

After you killed the 2 fellhounds, or what ever they are called; go down in the hole. The other fellhounds wont be pulled.

I pulled Hakkar and when I was in the "hole" I called my pet (spider tanking). Then just fire arrows. If you're not sure use mend pet. I didnt get any agro and Hakkar went down very smooth and easy.

For any stupid people like me who ran around going "Where's this flare I'm meant to use?"

Because this is a hunter specific quest, the flare is the hunter specific ability, Flare.

You do NOT want to know how long it took me to figure that out.

I completed this as Marksmanship (Lone Wolf, no pet), ilvl 818. Two things:

- Keep Concussive Shot on your targets.
- Feign Death will completely take you out of combat and reset only the current fight, not the entire encounter.

I started the felhunter fight on Khadgar's platform, near the entrance, and stayed there. I used Wyvern Sting to CC one, and burned down the other. Concussive Shot kept it away from me long enough to do good single target damage. When it closed in, I kited it back and forth on the platform and unloaded, Sidewinders and all. I did pull one of the other normal felhunters, but the named one was nearly dead when it came. I ate the damage from the normal felhunter and used Feign Death after I killed the named one. The 30 seconds of CC from Wyvern Sting was more than enough time to kill it (and reset the other).

I killed the second named felhunter the same way (without any CC, of course). Hakkar will aggro when the second felhunter dies, but again, you can reset him with Feign Death.

I started the Hakkar fight on the platform behind him and stayed there. I kept Concussive Shot on him to keep him slowed, and did the same type of kiting I used for the felhunters, on the platform. When he stops to use his big AoE attack, you can use Sidewinders if he's not near the normal felhunters (and there were a few times when he stopped on the higher level stairs, for me). I took some melee and AE damage when going back and forth, but Exhilaration was more than enough to help. The fight was long enough that I was able to use Exhilaration twice, but it wouldn't hurt to have a healing potion or a healthstone.

I'm sure there's a cleaner and faster way to handle this encounter, but hey, all of the targets died before I did, and I can't (immediately) repeat the quest to try another method. So, I'll take it.

When on the Hakar battle, keep a few things in mind and it should be easier for you:

-Do not kill the felhounds coming out of the portal after the initial 2 named ones. They will just keep spawning as fast as you kill them and overwhelm you.

-Position yourself down the ramp and to the right. No adds will get you there.

- Do not try to assist the rangers. They will not die in the scenario. However if you assist them you will quickly get overrun.

-Keep your pet healed constantly or it will die. You probably can't do this quest with the lone wolf talent.

Archmage Khadgar says: Let us leave this place, and celebrate our victory among friends.

Upon turn-in, Emmarel Shadewarden says:

With Hakkar dead, the citizens of Dalaran will be safe. Most will never know the threat they faced, thanks to your heroic actions.
You struck the fel lord down before he had a chance to terrorize the city. You upheld the oath we all took to watch and protect.
It would be naive to assume this is the last threat Azeroth will face.
The Burning Legion is at our doorstep, demanding to be reckoned with.

I REALLY overestimated this guy. Yes, the fight can be quite long but it is very simple and safe if you avoid the adds at all costs. I put the first hound asleep while I killed the second one and then got to the first one. After that, I backed up almost all the way back to the entrance and made sure my pet would tank him at all times. Set your pet to tenacity if you can. Heal it whenever you can and crank out the dps from afar. I did not pull any adds even with growl on to keep the houndmaster off of me. You may also find it handy to suicide once so the NPC helpers are more likely to go after the adds so they don't target you.

After completing In Defense of Dalaran a quest will show up by your artifact altar to empower your weapon with a 3rd relic. Hope this answers people's questions regarding the hunter's campaign for the 3rd relic.

Just wanted to add that if like myself you get to the point where you should be seeing this quest but have NOT done the previous Leading by Example quest (complete 50 world quests) you won't be offered this final step.

ok,I still can't seem to find this quest. I have done 67 world quests, honorable rep with all the factions needed. Khadgar is standing in the right place, but no quest, no portal etc. What am I missing? I am so frustrated. I have not done the start to Argus? Finish something else? I am working thru Suramar, is that it? All other areas are done. I have not had a campaign quest now for 2 days. Thx for any help

This quest becomes easily do-able if you go back to finish your class hall storyline for Legion Pathfinder once you've gotten a few levels in BfA. I did it at level 115, and it was totally manageable. Just FYI for folks like me who are a bit leery of being ported into dungeons.

Just did this at 120 and had to abandon quest several times before I figured out how to beat at high level. If I killed both hounds at once, only got credit for one. If I killed one then the other, only got credit for one. Success by doing the following as Stage 4 started:

-Ignore NPCs fighting demon hounds.

-Dismiss pet.

-BEFORE shooting off flare, go to double staircase under Hakkar.

-For me, it said to kill the hounds in this order 1) Czaadym, 2) Kreenam.

-Kreenam came down right side, so I set ice trap on right BEFORE setting off flare.

-Killed Czaadym by just smacking him a few times (did not one-shot him).

-Killed Kreenam.

-Killed Hakkar.

In case you are backtracking during Dragonflight, you cannot get this quest to advance the Hunter campaign until you have completed The Missing Vessel.

The "Khadgar" this quest talks about is the Archmage Khadgar in our class hall, the Trueshot Lodge. Do not go to Dalaran.

I have no quests left to pick up in the class hall. I thought I'd done all the prereqs but I'm unsure what I need to do to get this quest to become available

For anyone who is frustrated, like I was, because they can't seem to get this quest....it will not spawn until you've finished "The Missing Pieces" questline (which is done through the map in Trueshot Lodge.) Once you finish the final mission on the board, Emmarel at Trueshot Lodge will offer the quest. Hope this helps!

Enter the Violet Hold through Khadgar's portal, and defeat Hakkar the Houndmaster.

	Speak to Archmage Khadgar (1)
	Use the portal to the Violet Hold (1)
	Defeat Hakkar the Houndmaster (1)

Description

We have everything we need to set the trap for Hakkar. Archmage Khadgar will summon a portal to the Violet Hold.
