the profession quests that grant skill points ARE repeatable, but would only grant skill points like once a week or so...

One of the new patch 4.3 Darkmoon Faire profession quests, you must have at least 75 skill in Fishing to see this quest.

Simply fish off the coast of Darkmoon Island and you'll catch Great Sea Herring in addition to regular fish.

Although it only takes 5 casts to complete the quest, you may choose to continue fishing for a chance at a Sea Pony which can also be fished up from the water around Darkmoon Island.

The profession quests can only be completed once during each Darkmoon Faire and will grant 5 skill points.

The nearest vendors to the Darkmoon Faire portals are Kuruk (H), Innkeeper Farley (A) for the Moonberry Juice and Shadi Mistrunner (H), Tharynn Bouden (A) for all the other trade goods. You'll have to collect the fossil fragments yourself. If you forgot to bring your fishing rod with you, Tatia Brine on Darkmoon Island sells fishing supplies.

Make sure you are not in a raid group when trying to complete this quest. Though you can cast a line and catch fish while in a raid, you will not catch any Great Sea Herring.

Seems bugged after patch 5.x. Fishing not at max and came down to get the yummy 5 fishing skill points, and I can't pick up quest up.

If you forgot your fishing rod, that's no longer a problem. A recent patch removes the need for the fishing rod when fishing. (The 'default' rod it uses if you don't have yours equipped looks decidedly homemade as well.)

Please note, if you need or want the bonus your chosen rod gives, you will obviously have to use that. Also, any fishing buff that needs to target a fishing rod won't work on the 'default' rod, so again, you need your preferred fishing rod for that.

With 5.2 they changed the type of fish caught on Darkmoon Island to be relative to your skill level, so if you have issues fishing in areas relative to your level (i.e., ganking), then you can safely fish here and level to your heart's content.
