The Weekly Marmot - Cataclysm Press Event
2010/06/16 at 3:42 PM
So much to talk about! This week I narrowly squeak by inside Youtube's 11-minute limit to bring you my thoughts and speculations on the massive amount of information Blizzard released at the recent Press Event. I hope you're ready for a lot of talkingreallyfastsoicanbesuretogeteverythingin!
If you haven't seen the info I'm talking about in this video yet, it's available

Obviously we've had some server issues today. This is a Bad Thing™, and our team is busting their butts to make sure it doesn't continue. There may be some intermittent downtime on the site over the next few days while we make changes and tweaks to our server structure.
Please bear with us—we'll get it all sorted out shortly. :)

There are some very interesting improvements to the Battle.net system coming up with Battle.net 2.0, but there are also some strange—and some would say glaring—omissions. Got some opinions on the subject? Let us know!

Naxxramas' Thaddius Encounter Remade in Starcraft II
2010/06/14 at 12:24 PM
Move over Cataclysm (at least, for now) -
is on its way! While not all Warcraft fans are Starcraft fans, I think more than a few of you may find this interesting:
encounter remade as a single-player scenario in Starcraft II! Created with the Starcraft II Galaxy Map Editor released a few months ago, this campaign brings a group of noble Terran in to face one of World of Warcraft's least "noob-friendly" encounters, complete with intense
action! Blizzard showed off an incredibly impressive demonstration of the Galaxy Map Editor's power back at last year's BlizzCon, and so far beta participants have created some pretty interesting Starcraft II custom scenarios (like
Supply Depot Tetris
). Check out the video after the break!

Exclusive Interview With Ghostcrawler!
2010/06/13 at 2:01 AM
"No, you can't have a pony."So last week I had the chance to sit down with everyone's favorite Systems Designer,
, and ask him a few questions.
I collected the questions using
, and presented them to GC in a one-on-one setting. Perhaps his answers will inspire you, perhaps they will infuriate you—Mr. Street is nothing if not controversial. But nonetheless, here are the answers, straight from the crab's mouth!
I have tried to preserve as closely as possible the conversational style of the interview, directly from the transcript. If we sound awkward, well...we're geeks. Cut us some slack.

Blizzard Office Tour Gallery
2010/06/13 at 2:01 AM
Along with the rest of the fansites, I was afforded the opportunity to take a tour of the Blizzard offices. Obviously I wasn't allowed to take any pictures of sensitive documents (despite my best efforts), but I did get a few fun shots of what sets the Blizzard offices apart from most other companies.
There are a lot of shots I didn't include here—most of them pictures of hallways or offices, things that every company would have—but I did try and take special care to get pictures of the things that make the Blizzard offices special. I included explanatory captions wherever possible.
I apologize, as usual, for my lack of a decent camera. All these pictures were taken on a very old iPhone. =/

A Personal Aside
2010/06/11 at 3:06 PM
This has nothing to do with WoW, MMOs, or Wowhead, but it's very important to me personally so I wanted to take a moment to talk about it with you.
Some of you remember my brother, William. He blogs here occasionally under the name
. He's also suffering from a chronic, debilitating, incurable illness called
Crohn's is an auto-immune disorder of the digestive tract. Basically what happens is that the antibodies in your digestive system go a little nuts, and they start attacking your body's own tissue. The results are abdominal pain, dietary restrictions, diarrhea/constipation, infections, and frequent surgery. William himself has been forced to have his intestines re-sectioned twice, at the age of 25.
Because of this, he and I are taking part in a fundraising walk this Sunday for the
Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America
. I mention this here because we are still looking for pledges and donations, and anything you can provide will help.
