BlizzCast #15 is out!
This episode is a Cataclysm feature, all about the big changes coming up next week (holy crap it's next week)! They also talk a lot about sound and voice acting on this one, an area personally close to my heart.
Official announcement is after the break!
Experience Reduced for Dungeon Quests
2010/11/30 at 4:19 PM
Looks like Zarhym just jumped on to post that
Experience for 1-60 dungeon quests is being significantly reduced.
We are applying a hotfix today to all level 1-60 dungeon quests for Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms dungeons which will significantly reduce the amount of experience they award.
While dungeons should remain integral to our evolving storylines, and great places to collect gear in cooperative environments, we need to make sure each player’s questing progress remains relevant as dungeon quests are completed. In many cases we’re seeing players enter dungeons to complete quests, only to come out ahead of the leveling curve for the zones they’re in.
This change should allow players the opportunity to reap the benefits of running dungeons, while not outpacing the leveling flow from levels 1-60. At this time there are no plans for making any adjustments to dungeon quest experience for Outland, Northrend, and level 80+ Cataclysm dungeons.
You can find a list of all of the latest hotfixes here:
I don't know about you guys, but I'm really happy about this. I love
Thottbot Merged with Wowhead Framework
2010/11/30 at 3:12 PM
We just received this announcement from ZAM and I wanted to pass it along to you guys since some of you are probably wondering about Thottbot's future.
In a review of our World of Warcraft community sites,
has decided to make some changes to the
Wowhead will remain unaffected
, Thottbot will be sharing some of the Wowhead technology platform. A key goal was to improve the data available to the Thottbot community while retaining the Thottbot styling, navigation and community.
The following changes will occur to
Thottbot will load its database information from Wowhead's database.
Thottbot will load its comment, screenshot, and video information from Wowhead's database.
Thottbot's blogs and forum have been closed. We will be setting up a Thottbot-specific forum on Wowhead for discussion specific to that site.
Thottbot user accounts are being deactivated. Unfortunately most of the accounts on Thottbot had no email addresses associated with them and Wowhead's technology requires an email address to register an account.
Cataclysm New Zones Preview
2010/11/30 at 11:50 AM
We're finally in the last days until World of Warcraft's Cataclysm expansion hits, bringing with it two new races (
which we covered previously
) and a ton of new zones, quests, dungeons, raids and more! We've gotten quite a look at the future of World of Warcraft with the recent patch, The Shattering, in which Deathwing brought destruction to the zones of Azeroth, changing our World of Warcraft forever.
The Shattering patch brought massive changes to all of the existing zones.
For those purchasing the Cataclysm expansion, you will see new zones being added to the game
. These new zones include 4 new zones for Goblin and Worgen races and 6 new leveling / endgame zones for players level 80 - 85. Check out our preview of these zones, from our
including maps, screenshots and even videos

page is once again open for business!
The Wowhead team is made of software developers, managers, writers, and artists, all of which—thanks to you—are fortunate enough to be professionals. It's a great job, and we are thankful every day for the opportunity to do it.
And now we're looking for someone else to do it with us!
We're looking for a C++ developer to join the Wowhead team. This is a
full-time, contract, work-from-home
position. If you think you're the right one for the job, check out the requirements on our
, and then send a copy of your resume to email@example.com.
Please include any relevant code samples along with your cover letter, resume, and salary history in a separate document.
We're looking forward to working with you. :)
Hotfixes and Mysterious Patch Download
2010/11/29 at 8:43 PM
We mentioned this on
, but I figured it'd be good to get this posted here as well: The Blizzard folks have released another round of hotfixes onto official servers, and a brand new patch download.
This download is not a new patch.
It's actually a re-push of Blizzard's
patch, because some people got an incomplete download the last round.
It's not a new patch, it's actually "re-downloading" data which will replace current files. It's intended to resolve a few issues including disconnects and 'pink squares'.
As it's not a patch, if you're extremely eager to get into the game (or it's taking too long) you can actually bypass the launcher and run the wow.exe in your game directory and play normally. You can then continue on downloading it later after you're done playing.
We've also had a bunch of new hotfixes deployed on live servers, as listed by Zarhym below. Check after the break to see them:
Reminder: WoW 6th Anniversary Begins Tonight
2010/11/29 at 5:58 PM
Just as a quick reminder—even though WoW's 6th anniversary was technically on November 23rd, the anniversary Feat of Strength goes into effect on
If you're on an EU server, you can already get the
WoW's 6th Anniversary
achievement just by logging in right now. US servers will have to wait until midnight before the achievements go live on their servers.
If our sources are correct, you should have until
to log on and get your achievement! Now that shouldn't be a problem for any of you, should it?

Pre-Shattering WoW Database Active
2010/11/26 at 10:31 AM
A quick announcement for people recovering from their overdose of various culinary delights:
we took a snapshot of our database right before The Shattering and have made this snapshot available for users!
Obviously, this archive will not see any updates whatsoever, but with all the reminiscing about how things were "back in the day", we thought some of you might appreciate being able to link to evidence of just how far up that hill you had to walk in the snow.
Both ways, of course.
You can access the archive site either via the "Archive" link in the top left corner of any Wowhead page or by visiting the URL below:
When you think of how things were back in the day, what do you remember about WoW?
