WoW Loses 100k More Subscribers, Subscriber Decline Finally Slows
2012/02/09 at 3:31 PM
The Activision Blizzard quarterly call was today and it seems like the subscription drops have slowed down for the time being. World of Warcraft is only down 100,000 subscribers this past quarter unlike the past three quarters where World of Warcraft lost
, and finally
800k subscribers last November
. Of course, this isn't surprising, given 4.3 dropped during this time along with the yearly subscription promotion where players got a free copy of Diablo III in exchange for committing to a year of World of Warcraft game time.
Keep in mind, however, this is still a disappointing result. Many people were anticipating a momentary increase in subscribers, but it was still a minor decline despite a large patch and a new localized version for Brazil.
Other points of note:
There are approximately 50 million monthly active users across Battle.

LFR Roll Clarifications
Dungeons & Raids
Players no longer benefit from a role-based need bonus on the second of multiple copies of the same item on a single Raid Finder boss kill. For example, a player who chooses Need on two set piece tokens or two weapons (and wins the first) will only automatically roll 1-100 for the second from that particular boss.
Dev Watercooler: The Role of the Role
A monsoon is coming. We will soon inundate you with Mists of Pandaria information, starting with the upcoming media event and everything that follows. It’s going to be a very exciting time for World of Warcraft, and we are all super impatient for it to happen.
But… we’re not quite there yet. I want to make that clear upfront, because this blog isn’t directly Mists of Pandaria related. You won’t find any announcements here, just a philosophical discussion that you may or may not find interesting. If you’re looking for thrilling announcements, you know what I’m going to say: Soon™.

Test Your Strength
There's also been a ton of blue posts recently, covering everything from PvP mage talents to phasing and account-wide achievements in Mists of Pandaria. Will be especially nice to know more about the new achievement system soon!
Last but not least, our awesome friends at WoWInterface have released their Pick of the Week addon--it's perfect for players who love reputation grinds, either for achievements or for completion's sake!
is a replacement for the in-game faction window. It can show you all factions, even those you have not encountered, and will keep track of your gains from previous sessions. You may order factions by percent to exalted or alphabetically. Additionally, each faction has a separate popup listing details about the faction and a link to its section on Wowhead.

Get Married In-game, Set a World Record
2012/02/07 at 10:27 AM
Over at ZAM,
the whole staff is participating in setting a world record on February 14th
on RIFT. Anyone who gets hitched on Valentine's Day in RIFT will be helping RIFT set a world record of the most virtual marriages in a single day in a video game. Five of the lucky newly weds will even earn some special accolades from the RIFT devs themselves.
The idea of a MMORPG being in the book of world records is beyond cool to me and so is coming together as a community on a singular day, so I'm all for it. You can even get married using a trial version of the game.

As an added bonus, comment in this post how online gaming has played a role in your relationship (or friendships, if you're going stag this holiday)! One winner will receive their choice of a Blizzard store pet.

News Round Up: Mists of Pandaria News Coming Soon, Bug Fixes, And More
2012/02/03 at 1:43 PM
We have a bunch of blue posts from throughout the week for you to read. It's been a busier week than normal, with Blizzard seemingly finally waking up and getting ready to show us the goods! With this week's earlier announcement that a press event scheduled for March, we can only hope February passes as quickly as possible, because I think we're all dying to hear more about those pandas.
And possibly their brews.
With all the recent posts turning focus back to Mists, what do you guys think--
when will Mists of Pandaria be released?
Do you think we could be leveling this Fall in the new continent...or do you think it will be further off than that? Or hey, maybe sooner?
Mists of Pandaria
I like your thread, Vorps! It's great to see some positive discussion and speculation about where this game is headed. :)
We're definitely very focused on opening the doors a little wider to new ideas to really grasp onto what will make this game as fun as possible. It's 7 years old after all. We're not going to reinvent the wheel in Mists of Pandaria, but we want to introduce new types of compelling content with meaningful rew

Patch 4.3.2 Live Today
2012/01/31 at 12:11 PM
It has taken its time, but 4.3.2 is finally hitting servers this week!
A controversial patch, this one introduces gradually scaling zone buffs to
that recall back to the ones Icecrown Citadel had--a 5% buff will be added to the instance for raids who which to take advantage of it. There are also several encounter specific nerfs that aim to allow different raid compositions for the instance's final heroic modes and several class balance tweaks.
As Blizzard has said prior
, this will be the last patch of Cataclysm before a pre-Mists of Pandaria world event, so this patch also marks the beginning of the end for this expansion!
class="detail"><p>During the scheduled server maintenance on the week of January 31, the Dragon Soul raid will become enveloped by the “Power of the Aspects” spell, reducing the health and damage dealt of all enemies in the raid by 5%. This spell will grow progressively stronger over time to reduce the difficulty and make
New Site Feature: Same Model As Tab
2012/01/30 at 5:23 PM
We've had a tab that's shown you similar models on Wowhead for quite a while, but let's face it, it's been inconsistent. While helmets and shoulders have always been steadfast as they could be automatically generated, many accessories have had no such tab or have had a tab with incorrect data. Belts in particular could be misleading, because many belts had the same textures but ended up looking nothing alike; the same goes for breastplates and boots.
Luckily for you guys, though, we've been working on it--for a long time, in fact.
Since August, we have manually been crunching out thousands of items and matching them up every week. This has been a tremendous effort on behalf of all the content team, especially Perculia, and I'm really happy to announce that it's finally done and live on Wowhead right now!
In short, every item on the database should have an accurate same model as tab. From
Breastplate of Cruel Intent
Ancient Spellcloak of the Highborne
, we've gone through every item and matched them up
. You may have to refresh your cache and give things time to settle to see all of them, as the data push on the site just went live, but the feature is now officially launched--and we wanted to give everyone the good news! To check it out, just go to
50 Easy Elders: Getting the Lunar Festival Pet
2012/01/28 at 2:26 PM
The biggest draw of the 2012 Lunar Festival is the new vanity pets--but the catch is that the Festival vendors sell different ones to each faction for 50 Coins of Ancestry. However, the pets are BoE, so we'll show you the easiest way to get 50 Elders if you rolled an alt for the pet, but got stumped after ??-level guards one-shot you in Brill. Whether you want to sell extra pets for gold, roll a toon on the opposite faction to put the pet on the Neutral AH, or don't have enough tokens on your main to buy everything you want (like engineers), this guide can help.
This guide provides maps and tables organized by difficulty level for each faction. For Elders that are tricky or located far away from flight paths, I've also provided tips to reach them without dying, after personal experience on my 58 deathknight and 62 mage.
For the purposes of this guide, I will assume that you only have ground riding. Deathknights have flight paths in 1-60 zones learned automatically, so getting to 60 for a Flight Master's License is not that important if your'e that class. However, you will be able to get 4+ more Elders easily with flying.

News Round Up: World of Warcraft Cups, MoP Talents, BlizzCon Cancellation, and Addon of the Week
2012/01/26 at 2:11 PM
We have a lot of blue posts for you to digest today--from reminicising about Ulduar (and a blue subsequently explaining why Ulduar wasn't that awesome for everyone) to talking about AMPM cups, there's a little bit of everything Blizzard related. Zarhym even took the time to explain what Blizzard's thoughts are on that +intellect plate that always drops and everyone disenchants after their paladin is decked out.
Oh, and of course, everyone's talking about that BlizzCon cancellation as well.
Our friends at WoW Interface also posted their addon of the week. It's an amazing one. Have you ever wanted the encounter journal to have more encounters? You know, those pesky vanilla WoW ones and more? Well, thanks to the power of addons, it can be that awesome!
Check out CompleteEJ over at WoWInterface today
and let us know what you think.
The D3DB crew also has been tirelessly datamining some big Diablo III changes--check them out and the Beta Patch 10 notes
