Yes, it does. Every time you kill one of the Booty Bay NPCs, you get negative reputation with all of the whole Cartel, with Booty Bay having the highest loss. The rep loss depends on the NPC

One interesting note about the phasing is this: A number of of have observed that, at about 400 into friendly, a full level 85 Bruiser will spawn randomly. I changed to heirlooms to keep it less expensive and followed him around as a ghost. He tends to spawn and linger almost in the water on the slope behind the village just under the Goodstitch brothers. (Very very approximately, 43,72) I've encountered him on Revilgaz's deck in melee distance and next to Seahorn.

After you hit 400, either switch to heirlooms and run back a lot, or confine your efforts to the edge of the dock where the boat to Kalimdor arrives and the roof of the auction house. There are NPCs worth 25 plus there. Don't go onto Revilgaz's deck if you can avoid it. Shoot at him to get him to run to you. If you drop your guild banner, do so on the roof of the auction house. You have three 25 NPCs and two 5 NPCs in range. I consistently get at least one respawn on the 25s.

ETA: It is possible to regain rep with the 4 goblin groups without losing your Bloodsail Rep. It is a long slog involving capping pirates at Fray Island, the beaches in Tanaris, and Venture Bay (don't recall if there's a fourth group) Interesting datapoints: During Christmas, one of the holiday quests will get reputation back with the four factions without affecting Bloodsail. The NPCs for the holiday are friendly. Another is that the goblins in Zul Farrak in Tanaris are friendly. They offer quests in there which, again, give positive rep for the factions that does not involve the Bloodsail.

More information: The Zapped giants quests given in Feralas just uphill from the elf stronghold do give rep for the goblin factions without affecting Bloodsail rep.That goblin is friendly and you can approach him. I tested this on two characters just to be sure. As I get my main back up to neutral, I will try to remember to confirm and report on quests that don't decrease Bloodsail.

More information: My main is revered with Gadget (yes, I am nuts) and friendly/honored with Ratchet. The questing for these little guys in Kalimdor appear to have no bearing on Bloodsail rep. There is a little guy in Durotar who gives two low level quests in the harpy canyon. Alliance can pick this up! It actually confused my add-on. Most of these quests do have spillover rep for the other factions, as well. So, you can pick quests in Durotar, in Gadget, in Ratchet, and Zul Farrak. (I have not researched further ATM.)

This is such a great guide, I was really dreading trying to get my Bloodsail Admiral title post Cataclysm. This makes it very easy, and rep stays the same regardless of reputation level, so if you wished you could farm to max exalted through this phasing. I grinded from 0/36'000 hated to honored this way and I couldn't be happier ^_^ (well, if hadn't farmed for the hyacinth macaw earlier maybe it would have been quicker haha)

I followed the guide. It was very helpful but a little bit incomplete. My question is, now that I am phased in Booty Bay, and "At War" with them, is there an easier way of going through here on the rep grind without aggroing all of the Bloodsail that I've managed to piss off with my treachery? i can't even get the Piracy buff from Yancey anymore.

When you get the phased space, you will see lots of Brashtide raiders running around. You will have to kill them or run past them. You can loot them. Someone got a hyacinth macaw off one, but don't hold your breath. Killing the Brashtide crew (all worgen) do not affect your rep with anyone. So, fire away.

Once you get to neutral with the Buccaneers, they turn yellow and will not engage with you. Once you are friendly, they are untargeteable.

Dunno if anyone else has experienced this, but I messed up and went past the "Return to Revilgaz" quest.

I figured I'd give the killing a whirl, and I started killing Booty Bay NPCs, but I noticed that my Bloodsail rep was going down instead of up(IE 30,000, then 30,012 or whatever).

Curious, I boarded a Bloodsail ship and started killing the pirates there. Each one said it was decreasing my Bloodsail rep by 25, but it was taking it the other way, and leaving my Booty Bay rep alone.

It still says it's giving the correct rep, but is doing the opposite when the rep is handed out.

Weird. Anyone else try this?

No idea how or why it did that. I'm assuming its a glitch, but don't know for sure.

An easy way to complete Swabbing Duty is to pay "Pretty Boy" Duncan 1g to do it for you - voilà, instant completion! :)

Note that you'll also need to do the quests offered by "Pretty Boy" Duncan (Cannonball Swim) and Garr Salthoof (The Bane of Many A Pirate) before you can advance to Attracting Attention

The only problem with this otherwise good guide is that it is only for people who have not completed all the quests in the zone. I did all the quests there prior to Cataclysm and now cannot use the guide.

I suggest getting a group if you are trying to do this achievement. First of all, THE GUARDS HAVE FREAKIN 464K HEALTH. And they hit you like a truck. Of course, you can kill the lvl35 guards, but that only increases 5 rep per kill, which takes about 38000 rep to get friendly with pirates(depends on how many pirates you killed). Second, people from other faction can see " Booty Bay is under attack! " From general chat. They will fly to booty bay from grunbish arena and gank you, especially with the guards help, you will be dead before you know it. Third, the guards respawn VERY fast. If you kill a guard, he will respawn before u kill the 2nd guard, and soon, you will be swamped by guards and die. And you will lose lots of armor durability. Repair fees FTW.

This is only considering if you are not a blood DK. ( lol jk, oh well, maybe not if you are insane blood DK soloist like raegwyn).

I found another NPC that gives you 30 reputation.
His name is Grizzlowe <Shipmaster>, and he is located at the end of the dock :)
He has longer spawn time then most of the NPC but he will be there every 5-7min :)

So a few weeks ago I decided to attempt as many achievements as I could, Logically I started with the Loremaster ones which involved finishing this quest chain. Is there any way to have the quest reset by a GM? Or will I be stuck using a slower method? Also what is that slower method?

Fantastic guide! Thank you very much. One thing I would like to add, once you are ready to go and do Avast, Ye Admiral! the Crimson Veil will be in the harbour beside the island with the goblin statue, not where it was when you did the quests at the start of your adventure. (Thanks to Braelin for this info)

Technically it's in both places, however as soon as you get ready to board the 'original' version of the boat all the npc will phase out and you won't be able to see/interact with them.

Is there any way to gain rep with Bloodsail if your passed the phased quest in booty bay ? I'm working on Insane title and any advice would really be helpful. Thanks to anyone that can help.

Thank you very much for this guide. Got inspired for this last night (no idea why).

Very casual player, with no effort put into rep. I logged into a 90 Pandaren Monk that hadn't done anything in Booty Bay. It took maybe 4 hours (45 min questing and then 3 hours of phased rep grinding). I didn't grind too hard, had lunch during and watched a tv show during. Just wanted to give a ballpark for the task as I had assumed it was going to take much, much longer.

Once I hit Friendly the phasing of The Crimson Veil was a bit screwy (it is off to the west). I went right out to sea, came back to the goblin island and hovered there for a few moments before the ships phased in.

Again, fantastic guide, much appreciated.

Grinding the Reputation in the Instanced area is very doable for a Level 60 Character. The only NPC who will give any trouble is Fleet Master Seahorn; at least to a Cloth-wearer, he hits like a truck. I found it most efficient to cycle between killing Baron Revilgaz and the two nearby bankers, Viznik Goldgrubber and Rikkle Goldgrubber. It went like this:

- Kill the bankers, then Privateer Bloads
- Fight Seahorn (since he will chase anyway)
- Kill Jutak if she is present
- Go into the inn, kill Rixxrax Fillamug, Whiskey Slim, and Crank Fizzlebub
- Skip Catelyn the Blade and kill Deeg
- Kill Revilgaz, then Kebok
- Rinse and repeat. Each round should give about 100 Reputation.

I decided Cate had too high HP for killing her to be worth the 5 Reputation points. Also, this is the path where you will meet the fewest Brashtide Raiders or Booty Bay Bruisers.

Works as of 6.2. Some of the rep values have changed but otherwise works exactly as described in the guide. There was another lv 100 Hordie doing the same grind while I was. Partied up and went from Hostile to Friendly in about an hour with crisscrossing patterns from one side of BB to the other.

Don't forget to poke around in the shops. Every named NPC (even the "corpse" in the inn) gives at least 5 rep points. For those on a normal realm, flagging PvP will allow you to kill the otherwise unattackable auctioneers for 5 points each.

For some reason I have no ability to kill any of the Booty Bay Bruisers. I should be able to one-shot them, but I can't attack them. I tried to enable PvP and everything but nothing works.

Before Captain Keelhaul will give you quest Attracting Attention, there are 2 other quests aboard The Riptide that you must do first. After you have completed Swabbing Duty head up to the main deck to find Pirate "Pretty Boy" Duncan who will give you quest Cannonball Swim this involves finding 6 cannonballs underwater. When you hand that in go up to the top deck, where the ships Steering wheel is and find Pirate Garr Salthoof, who will give you quest The Bane of Many a Pirate which will have you find 5 crates of limes from the small islands surround the ships. When you do this Garr will put in a good word for you, promoting you past the rank of Swabbie; and then Captain Keelhaul will have available for you, the quest Attracting Attention.

The problem I found in doing the Reputation grind this way was that the phased version of Booty Bay becomes permanent and the remainder of the quest chain up to Bloodsail's End becomes uncompletable. It would appear that in order to regain Neutral status with Booty Bay my options are currently to undo my work and talk to Bloodsail Traitor or the horrendous Southsea Pirate grind in Tanaris...

Ok, i think i messed up. I check my rep and it says at war (greyed out) but i can't kill anybody. All green to me. No bombing or anything going on. I turned my quests in before seeing the part about NOT doing that. Any way to fix this fubar?

Working on the insane achieve and decided to test this out to see if it's still viable on an alt. Chose my 110 demon hunter and started on 1/7/2017 (Legion 7.1).
The times on the left are when I took the quest, the reps mentioned were before turn-in except the final one.
I'm happy to report that this still appears to work, you'll just have to set your at-war flag and ignore all of the Brashtide Raiders around town.
Also tested logging out and back in and I'm still phased.

Those looking to this on Pirate's Day for the toy: you can't, annoyingly. Details of the Attack needs you to kill a bunch of Bloodsails that are not available on Pirate's Day.

Isn't this pretty much an exploit?

Wow defines an exploit as: "An exploit (known as "exploitive activity" by Blizzard) is a method of playing the game in a way not intended by the game developers to gain an advantage over other players." While it could be argued that following the steps in this guide doesn't gain an advantage over other players directly, it does gives an advantage over players who did not (or refuse to) use this guide and gain the title legitimately. There is no argument that it does involve playing the game in an way not intended to by the developers however.

Perhaps more importantly, this "tactic" makes life difficult for those players who are trying to quest in this area - specifically in regard to asshat $%^&*!@s who wait around to snipe quest-giver NPCs whenever a leveling character arrives to accept/hand-in a quest. Just saying. If you are the type to use this guide (regardless of whether it is considered an exploit, or not) don't be an asshat @#$%^&*, and pause to allow leveling characters to interact with the NPCs before you off them.

Don't know if this'll be useful to anybody still. But in the quest Swabbing Duty, where you have to mop the Deck Stains, I used a Macro of /tar Deck Stain, and then keybound my comma key (,) to Interact With Target.
That made the quest fast and simple.

Fleetmaster Firallon is at 47 95 to the south of Booty Bay, on the middle ship. He's below deck at the rear.

If like me you just got your rep up and want to buy the hat, head straight there: you don't need to do the rest of the quest chain. He'll give you a quest to kill 2 NPCs back in Booty Bay, job done.

Make sure you DO NOT hand in Return to Revilgaz! otherwise you will be unable to grind!
For those of you like me who turned in the quest, don't fret, all hope is not lost. Just go to your reputation tab and select At War with Booty Bay, then you just stick around that same area you turned in the quest you weren't supposed to and kill the Booty Bay citizens. Took me a couple hours maybe to hit Friendly, not a bad grind at all. NOW if you're just after the title, then once you hit Friendly and you're still phased, then just head to the Crimson Veil ship at 47, 95 (just south of Booty Bay) and do the quest Avast, Ye Admiral! and you're done! All of that info I found in the comments section so I just wanted to piece it all together in one place. Hope I can help a lost soul!

So if there's anyone lese like me who doesn't understand how the rep works - when hated with bloodsails it's meant to go up to 36000 then you reach the next one ( so dont be sad when seeing the bar go up not down )

But mainly this comment is about the achievement "Avast Ye, Admiral!"

as mentinoed in the guide theres a way to do it - what i did was getting a random person ( he was a 70 rogue) and he party synced me, then i just walked down the boat accepted quest, flew to booty killed and flew back.
no need to kite.
