If your carrying 2 lower level pets with a higher level be sure to let them each get atleast 1 hit in during battle. they dont fight they dont level. Awesome guide pine89!

One question, if you happen to miss the first quest for the tamer from the pet trainer I think it is Aubrey. Missing that very first one and my pets are already at 8. How can I get that first quest from the trainer? I would like to do the entire set of tamers.

Great guide, but:

"If you want to skip The next section, you can check your Auction House for a level 25 pet and buy it. This will get you a jumpstart to leveling your pets. Just note that level 25 pets are not usually cheap."

You can't uncage a pet with a level higher than the highest level pet you already own. So simply "buying a level 25 pet" will not work.

Did I miss something?

Great guide. I have a more technical question, though. How do I get the higher level abilities to show up on the pet bar? I only have 3 (action bars 1, 2, 3), plus the 'change pet,' and the help/trap buttons. For level 15, I should have 5 abilities to choose from. What do I do? thanks.

Suggestion:
Make sure to capture Uncommon and Rare pets in wild battles between each Tamer quest. As this will help you gain more XP, increase your pet collection and pet choices when fighting Tamers.

I'd like to add that by capturing Uncommon and Rares encountered in wild pet battles, you can save yourself from leveling every pet. I love the fact that (at this point), I have a large and growing number of level 2-15 pets that I did not have to put in the time to level. So by capturing the Uncommon and Rares encountered, not only do you gain a new pet and increase abilities on your battle teams, you also jump a lot of levels for that particular pet. Even if the flag says I have a particular Uncommon or Rare pet, I look it up in my pet journal every time to see which one is a higher level. Of course, I keep the highest level Rare. If I find an Uncommon that is 2 or more levels above a Rare in my journal, I keep that too. You are allowed to have up to 3 of the same pet. So even by keeping the one Rare and one Uncommon, I can still capture a 3rd one encountered during wild battles and release the lower level one after that battle. Happy hunting!

The horde one needs MAJOR updating for gaps and editing many MANY writing errors. This one is sooo much better. I would roll a horde if I were you. :) Thank you. Now to find something cogent to read to help me as I am planning giving a lvl 25 Strand Crawler as a fabulous prize to a contest my guild is running.

Am I missing something here?

This guide to pet leveling does not appear to offer any actual advice for leveling pets. These trainer battles are great and all, but you'll still need to spend hours upon hours of grinding wild pet battles to even have a chance at winning these.

The guide smoothly glides over needing to be 12+ to even win the first batch of them listed.

Nice guide to the battle quest trainers, lousy leveling guide. Should be renamed.

I go to these trainers and they have no quests for me. My achievement has everything done up to Bill Buckler, but when I try to talk to Bill he only tells me he is drunk. No quest. Stuck and unsure how to proceed. Any suggestions?

I've started leveling my pets, but for some reason I can't get he tamers to acknowledge me. I went to the first 3 and for some reason it says I defeated them already, so I'm at Eric in Duskwood and can't get him to battle me. Anyone have any advice?

Nice effort, but the guide itself isn't really useful.
Anyway, you have to have at least 3 lvl12 pets for the first trainer for the eastern kingdoms quest, otherwise he will rip your face off.

My advice on leveling is to play with 3 pets, and level them in batches: the first one that reaches - let's say - lvl10 is removed from active pets, the other 2 each bump a spot up and your next pet for leveling is placed 3rd. Rinse and repeat.

Oh, and try going for wild battles with pets 1-2 levels above yours (do so when you can play all 3 slots).

There really needs to be a fuller guide for complete newbies with battle pets like me.

I've read hints of strategy in various places - talk of dailies from level 3 trainers - and significant pets to level - that own Pandaria at only level 10.

Can someone please codify the important points. After all once you get started with the Trainer - you are just following quest line - which is all very well - but doesn't help you understand the mechanics of pet battles any better, let alone the best and fastest way to level.

Something like this would do very well Pet Battles and You - A Trainer's Manual.

What I'd like to show is another easy way to lvl up your pets through garrison menagerie, which requires the quest where you have to defeat the diablo characters (as the XP for the other dailies got nerfed)

This guide is very misleading.
It should be titled "Leveling your very first pet 1-25"

as most of this cant be done to level a second pet. at all.

And you need a few pets already with some levels, to even start the quests.
So good try, but fail.

It's a good guide for people that haven't started yet, but pretty bad for people that are already in middle of leveling. I have many 13-18 lv pets and I'm even more confused about what to do now after reading this guide.

I don't know if things changed in Shadowlands, but Aubrey didn't have any of the leveling quests for me, so I started on my way to check if Julia, the Pet Tamer might have the next quest and as I was flying over Goldshire, I saw a quest mark on my mini-map and stopped to see what it was and the quest giver was named Marcus Jensen and he had all the pet levelling quests. He's behind the blacksmithing building that's across from the inn in Goldshire, behind a tree.

So i'm halfway to Taming Eastern Kingdoms achievement. I'm stuck, i beated Buckler (i think i did the return to ST quest) but now David Kosse ignore me. According to the guide i should've got two achivements and unlock daily, i didn't. No daily quests available anywhere. Because of warband i don't know on which character i did most of them. I'm lost.
