You must have at least one pet that is eligible to participate in pet battles. Otherwise known as a battle pet.

This is a REALLY nice guide. I love it.

One personal suggestion - just my own taste more than anything so feel free to completely ignore - is that centering text can get a bit over done when used for the main content. People like to be able to read things easily and that can be a little trickier when the lines start in slightly different places. It's actually not such a big deal here because your text is very nicely broken up with images and other cool content but something maybe worth bearing in mind.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

I really enjoyed the optional sound events for the various sections. Most specifically the WRONG! or CORRECT! sound effects you added for the Pop Quiz. I like the attention to detail with those type of features.

Perhaps you could add some images to act as your separate sections listed in the ToC.

For example: Introduction. could be or whatever you would choose to make of course lol that's just something I made in a minute as an example. I think the eye-catching of an image header can help to break up the guide into more distinct sections.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##sas148##DELIM##

Battle Pet Creation:
Every battle pet starts with it's own 3 initial stat values:

Health: 100+(initial health stat x pet lvl)
Power: (initial power stat x pet lvl)
Speed: (initial speed stat x pet lvl)

initial health stat = ±50 | initial power/speed stat = ±10

A rare quality pet generally has better initial stats than a poor one.

Example:
A poor quality pet is created with an initial stat of 8.71 power.
lvl1 -> 9 power (±8.71)
lvl5 -> 44 power (8.71x5lvl=43.55=±44)
lvl25 -> 218 power (8.71x25lvl=217.75=±218)

A rare quality pet is created with an initial stat of 12.05 power.
lvl1 -> 12 power (±12.05)
lvl5 -> 60 power (12.05x5lvl=60.25=±60)
lvl25 -> 301 power (12.05x25lvl=301.25=±301)

You don't want to lvl up your poor quality pets!

The experience rewarded at the end of the battle is divided by all the pets alive.

If he has a lower lvl, he will get bonus experience.
If he is 5 or more lvl's higher, he will receive no experience.

Trick: Lvl up fast your newbie pet!

Start with your highest lvl pets and bring the enemy team on low health.
Let your high lvl pets die when the last enemy pet is on low health.
Finish the enemy with your low lvl pet. -> he will get all the experience+bonus.

Really nice to see a guide like this. Definitely want to see the Tamer battles updated, possibly listed with the different pets/types that each tamer uses so users can prepare for each battle. I actually started writing them out on my own, but I decided I didn't want to since someone else out there would do it for me. I can try to track down what I did write out, but it's not a ton of info, just some of the first few fights.

So what is the stat importance in combat, better to attack first or hit the hardest? I.e, when I choosing between my pets should I pick the one with Power 12, Speed 10 or the one with Power 10 and Speed 12, or is a few points Health better to have?

Is the combat like a chess game, with alternating turns to make a move/attack?

I like this guide, it answered a lot of the questions I had concerning pet battles.

You might want to add the information that you can see your opponent's stats by bringing your cursor over its portrait during battle. This will help evaluate whether it's worth capturing or not.

Pretty nice guide. But one of the things I'm looking for is things like: Chances to trap pet during combat.

Is a rare pet harder to catch?
Level seems to do a difference. Low levels seems easier to catch.
What is the initial start chance of capturing a pet? 20%, increasing to 55% -> 90%
Or is it calculated like 20% -> 27% -> 46.45% -> 62,7% etc

Another question for you guys then. How do you do to use a combat pet's 4:th, 5:th or 6:th talent? They are not included in my pet combat actionbar (only talent 1-3 are). How do I use them or swap them around?

Does anyone know how "qualityless" pets stack up? Rare finds like a Dark Whelpling or a Disgusting Oozeling do not have a quality rating with them. They happen to be my favorite pets too!..

I don't want to be disadvantaged by using them instead of a rare capture of a frog... =/

My friend your guide is great, I like it. You put some soundtracks from Pokemon, and a "Pokemon" like table of Technique effectiveness for "attacks vs pet families.". I my self played those games, it's great to remember the past a little. You should add a table with the kinds of pets each Master Pet Trainer has please, that will help a lot to the new comers.

You have a fantastic guide. I have been looking for a guide that shows the lvl of pet battles in each region. I often am not sure of the best place to take my pets to level them before the next Battle Master. I feel your guild would be more complete with this information.

It might be worth mentioning that trainer battles give a ludicrous amount of experience. If you fight them when they out level you (which provides a fun challenge) you will likely only have one pet alive when you win. The victorious pet reliably levels up on one fight with more EXP to spare.

It also helps that many of the trainers have a 'daily' version of their quest that allow you to rematch immediately(!).

This is avoids a lot of grinding. Once I was strong enough to fight trainers it was very rare for me to have to grind. My type set: Beast, Mechanical, Humanoid, and Elemental only struggled on Flyers and Mechanicals. If I had to do it again, I would have actively kept either an Aquatic or Magic Type leveled as well. Most of the time with tactics (and a bit of patience with RNG misses) you can blaze through pretty fast.

When you do have to grind, maintaining a high level Beast with Devour makes leveling a breeze because of the sheer amount of wild Critters. Beasts and Aquatics are common too, but Devour makes for little down time with the pet swap method mentioned in other posts.

Also, try to get to level 25 before amassing a collection. Much of the battle pets have higher leveled color equivalent with the same move-set. From there it is a leisurely gathering stroll of mini pets. Especially if you take the time to get a level 25 Terrible Turnip with Weakening Blow

They have updated the battle pet system a little and now you can see the rarity of a pet whilst you are in battle with it. So once you get into 3v3 pet battles you can decide which one you want to capture if two or so of the enemy pet are the same and of different rarity.

If you have trouble finding a trainer who will train you, try looking at the filter and check that "Available" is selected.

In the patch notes for 5.2, it states that "Elite battle pets" are going to be added.

They will be easy to spot, sporting a yellow pawprint in place of the standard green one.

Rather than taking the normal progression from uncommon to rare, followed by epic and then legendary, battle pets will leap from rare(blue) to legendary(orange) quality.

These pets will spawn alone against an entire team. The new quest, Beasts of Fable followed by the daily of the same name have been added to track progress as these new pets are hunted down. Completion will award the new Red Panda pet; the daily offers the satchel: Fabled Pandaren Pet Supplies, which may contain the Sunfur Panda, Snowy Panda, and/or Mountain Panda, as well as the standard satchel items. The Pandas share the same model but have unique skins. This is a very similar to the Pandaren Spirit quest and satchel items.

I have been hoping for higher quality capturables and am crossing my fingers that this addition goes live intact!

Q. when i am in Northern Stranglethorn and i kill mobs and i get my loot, i get a massage about 2 pets who are attempting? what and why? are they trying to lvl or get out or what? any one now what i'm talking about..want to put in a pic but don't now how i can do it...
And how do i get my rare to become legendary?

I found that taming a blue quality Shore Crab in Azshara and using that as my primary pet was idea. I always fought every fight with him, so he leveled quickly, and I filled the other two slots with my highest level pets, no matter what they were.

With damage reduction and self-healing, crabs are very hard to kill. Once I got him to level 25, I found two other crabs and leveled them. With three crabs, battles may last longer, but it's nearly impossible to lose as long as you keep the shield and heal up, even against flying pets (against which Crabs have reduced damage), and I usually end the fight having only used one of my crabs and he's at or near full health. The only pet that really gave me any trouble was frogs, since they have lots of healing, but they eventually go down.

You can take away the '?' the training is account wide. I spent the fee on my main server, but have the ability to pet battle on all 6 of my servers (3 H, 3 A).

Also hoping real life backs off soon, so that you can get back to the awesome things in life... like Pets in WoW. =)

UPDATE: To easily view the pet levels of each zone go to the game map. As you hover over the different sections the map will display the pet levels. This number is located at the top of the map under the name of the zone.

For Example:
Northern Barrens (10-20) <---Character level
Pet level (3-4)

Anyone know why u can't uncaged a pet that someone level ? my highest pet was lvl 13 a friend gave me 3 lvl 21 pets and i cant uncaged it, any reason ?

What happens when you have Three one One pet? Like... If you have Three Blue Moths can you do anything? When I caged one of them it said "Collected 2/3" Does something happen if you have 3/3? Or can you do something with that?

This may be a dumb question, however I have read many pet battle guides including this one which, IMHO, is the best so far. I am starting this using level one pets and never have played pokemon. Some say you can level "a" pet to 25. Since after level 7 (?) you battle 3 pets how do you level only one to 25? Thank you for the time and effort you obviously put in to create this great guide. lyta#1953

Thanks for the terrific beginner's guide! It actually answered some really basic questions I had (as a newbie pet tamer) that the more in-depth guides just glossed over (suppose they assumed everyone knows THAT). Very helpful and I love the maps and charts. Kudos for giving the credit to where it belongs (including yourself!), and for offering links to other guides that augment the information you gave in yours. First time I had a question answered in a guide without having to read at length or follow link-after-link to get what I needed... basic info. Love it!

Great guide....I've referred to it a few times already. I've got some questions about pets for users who have multiple characters. I can see that the pets are account-wide, but can different characters keep certain pets in the 3 battle slots vs. other characters? So, could my higher-level characters have higerh level pets ready to battle, vs. lower-level characters having lower-lever pets at the battle ready?

When is 100% hit chance not 100%, and why?

A number of times my pet has used an attack that lists 100% chance to hit and yet it misses, despite there being no factors that would reduce the hit chance below 100%. No blindness, no debuff, nothing. Yet it misses. Why is this?

Another time my pet got hit by an attack 4 times in a single round, and also got hit 4 times by a damage-causing debuff in the same round. These 8 hits, of course, killed him. What's up with that? Jeez.

So Rare pets get better (more?) stats as they level? There goes any plan of leveling the uncommon ones and changing them into rares. Rares or nothing I guess.
