What Makes Beast Mastery Special
Beast Mastery is the only ranged specialization that can do 100% of its damage while moving. Despite being ranged, most of their damage comes from their pets, which have to be in melee range of the target. The majority of this pet damage is controlled by the Hunter rather than happening automatically. BM Hunters are the only specialization that can tame Exotic beasts. In total, there are over
50 different pet families
that can be tamed, each with dozens of different looks. In Legion, Hunters have two permanent pets because of the Hati bonus from
BM Hunters excel in small group content such as Mythic+ dungeons because of their strong AoE damage, and the fact that they can bring valuable tools such as
(Blood Lust) or
(Battle Resurrection) which might otherwise be missing from a small group. They also do competitive damage in raids.
Hunters have numerous vanity glyphs:
Glyph of Stellar Flare
Glyph of the Goblin Anti-Grav Flare
modify your flare,
Glyph of Arachnophobia
summons spiders with Dire Beast, and
Glyph of the Skullseye
Glyph of the Bullseye
modify Hunter's Mark.
They can equip the legendary weapons
Thori'dal, the Stars' Fury
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
All of these items are sold by
in Sholazar Basin except for Fireworks, which is
Pet Training Manual: Play Dead

The Art of Concealment
Aspect of the Chameleon
Pet Training Manual: Fetch

Recent Patch Changes
Below you'll find the most recent changes to the Beast Mastery spec over the last few patches.
The only change this patch is that Cobra Shot will deal less damage at very low levels, as part of the patch 7.3.5 leveling revamp. There is no effective change to Cobra Shot at max level. There are also a few
to tame this patch.
Patch 7.3 & 7.3.2
Nothing noteworthy, but the gear section of this guide has been updated for the Antorus, The Burning Throne raid.
Beast Mastery gets a whole bunch of quality-of-life improvements this patch. Previously, 2 charges on Dire Beast/Frenzy was reserved for those with the legendary shoulders, but now everyone gets it. Improved range on Kill Command, and Hati using Dash will significantly improve target switching. The Aspect of the Wild change will make it so you can more easily spend the excess Focus granted by it.
Damage of most abilities increased by 6%.
now have 2 charges baseline.
now have a 40-yard range, up from 25 yards.
Hati will now use
when your primary pet does.
Aspect of the Wild
now also reduces the global cooldown by 0.2 seconds.
now has a 40-yard range, up from 25 yards. Now generates 24 Focus over 8 seconds (instead of 25 Focus instantly).
damage increased from 288% to 720% weapon damage, but cooldown increased to 15 seconds, up from 9 seconds.
Notes: The change to Dire Frenzy may look like a nerf, but it's really not. Dire Frenzy always had an issue with Focus capping, and this change helps eliminate that. Chimaera Shot is still lackluster and simply doesn't compete with the other options.
Jaws of Thunder
: Now has a 8% chance to trigger per point (down from 10%).
: Now increases Kill Command damage by 3% per point (down from 5%).
Notes: These nerfs serve two purposes: For starters, it's tuning to help compensate for getting an extra charge on Dire Beast/Frenzy. Secondly, it slightly reduces the value of relics with these traits, which should give you a bit more relic choice (though these are still among the top relic traits).
: Since 2 charges on Dire Beast is now baseline, these have been changed to increase all your pet damage by 5% for 8 sec after using Dire Beast/Frenzy. This is still a solid legendary, but no longer the best in all situations.
: New legendary chest piece with haste and mastery. Every time you cast Cobra Shot, you gain 1% damage and 2% leech, stacking up to 4 times. The high stat budget and 4% overall damage makes this one of the better BM legendaries available.
New legendary ring. It doesn't have a big stat budget, but it makes up for it by granting the
talent, allowing you to use 2 talents from that row. This is a good item, and likely one of the best if you're playing a Crit/Stomp build.
