He is some combat things about him.

-He is located furthest north from Thrallmar in a zone called Throne of Kil'jaeden

-He does an AoE Shadowbolt that does 2k flat damage. (Can use Shadow Protection, Same as the regular kazzak)

-He does a ????? Damage Thunderclap, don't really know the specs on this thing but I know it does a good amount of damage from what I could tell.

-He puts a Magic Debuff on his target that on every attack he does, he heals himself for 25,000(Dispellable by priests)

-If someone dies during the fight, he gets healed for 150,000 damage(Same as regular Kazzak but a bigger heal)

-He does around 5k-15k NON CRIT on Plate armor, so around 20k(one shot) Crit im guessing, we had a tank with Wrath Gear and some other varied BWL epics...so Im guessing we could use a better tank.

What I think is that he is REALLY hard for the type of gear the people have in beta atm, greens, blues, varied heroic/karazhan epics

At approximately 1 minute into the fight he enrages which does 30% more damage as well as hurls 6 volleys of shadow bolts that hit for 2500 if unresisted each. Consumables seem to be a must at the moment, although with raid buffed 98 shadow resist (mage armor ftw) I was resisting about half of each. It can be assumed that he will enrage at every subsequent minute.

The thunderclap hit me for 2300-2500

We took our flasked tank from killing High King Maulgar to go try him out and best attempt was ~65% w/out consumables before the flask wore off and called it for the night (only had 32).

My mob health had him clocked at around 1.2 million hp so with 40 people it'll take atleast 3 minutes to kill him, maybe less if you're pro.

He was hitting our tank for 5-8K regular hits and while enraged hit for 8-11K (tank in 7 dreadnaught, tier 5 shoulder). With consumables that probably could've been mitigated further (iron shield pot) but it was late.

It is my assumption that he will not be regularly 25 man-able until further along in gear progression, at the moment it would be best to take 40. Basically if anyone dies, it's pretty hard to compensate for the 150K heal.

One thing that hasn't been said about him is that he sometimes puts a 'Mark of Kazzak' on a person, which is undispellable. Mark of Kazzak reduces mana by 5% each second for 10 seconds. If that person goes out of mana he will blow up, dealing damage to everyone around him (and pretty much wiping the raid).
The key to this is make sure everyone has got more than 50% mana. If they don't, let them use a mana potion or have them receive an innervate.

I wasn't able to find an exact timer for the Mark of Kazzak, but on our last kill we saw 3 people get it.

Similar to the original Kazzak/Highlord Kruul, but more intense. You could kill them in 3 minutes, Doom Lord Kazzak really needs to be done in one.

Originally known just as Lord Kazzak, Doom Lord Kazzak is a level ?? (boss) elite demon located at the Throne of Kil'jaeden, a mountain on the northern edge of Hellfire Peninsula in Outland. Originally located in the Tainted Scar in the Blasted Lands, Kazzak found an artifact to reopen the Dark Portal and travelled through it to Outland, where he now commands the Legion war effort in Outland in the name of his master, Kil'jaeden. Lord Kazzak's replacement on Azeroth after the re-opening of the Dark Portal is Highlord Kruul, one of Kazzak's minions.

He hits decently geared tanks for 7000-11000, and anyone else doesn't really stand a chance.

Doom Lord Kazzak's are the same as those when he resided in Azeroth, just with higher damage.

* Shadowbolt Volley
o Shoots out an insanely long range volley of Shadowbolts that hits everyone in the raid. It will hit between 1500-2800 to everyone before resistance is applied. The volley totally ignores all line of sight issues; It does have a range, and can be avoided.

* Twisted Reflection
o Casts a magical debuff (on a random player in range other than the player with aggro) that heals Lord Kazzak for a very large proportion of his health (was 25,000 pre-Burning Crusade) each time he deals damage to the player with this debuff. This combined with the Shadowbolt Volley can ruin the attempt.

* Mark of Kazzak
o Casts a non-curable debuff (on a random player in range with mana) that drains the target's mana for 5% per second and explodes for 5,000 (pre-Burning Crusade) AoE damage when there is no more mana to drain. A living bomb. Lasts 8 seconds.

* Cleave
o Doom Lord Kazzak's Cleave can be avoided if the melee stand behind him. The range of the Cleave seems to be greater than the typical 5yd melee range attack, and seems to extend somewhere between 10-15 yards. The Cleave acts as a Chain Cleave and hits between 6,500-15,000. The dramatic increase in damage may be a result of the Cleave chaining, and increasing in damage dealt as it hits more people. Another idea is that the Cleave is limited in the number of targets it hits.

* Thunderclap
o A PBAoE spell, deals 2,200-2,500 nature damage. Slows movement speed by 60% and attack speed by 30%.

* Void Bolt
o A strong bolt he may cast only on the player with aggro, deals 4000-5000 shadow damage. Also reduces movement speed by 60%.

* Capture Soul
o When a player gets killed, Lord Kazzak casts this spell to instantly regenerate a large amount of health (150,000hp roughly 10%). Pets, totems or opposing-faction kills do not trigger this ability. *Opposing faction kills trigger this ability.*

* Enrage
o After 54 seconds Doom Lord Kazzak will enrage, increasing his attack damage by 30%. At this time, Doom Lord Kazzak will send out 6 waves of Shadowbolt Volley. Enrage is a temporary buff that ends after the 6th volley.

The introduction of Outdoor Raid Encounters in the most recent patch has added an entirely new dimension to the World of Warcraft. Players are now allowed to participate in high-end content without the time investment necessary to hack one's way to the bottom of the dankest dungeons. The addition of these encounters opens up new game dynamics, both good and bad. While we do not wish to detract from the positive aspects of these encounters, we feel it necessary to address certain negative aspects to preserve the gameplay experience for all.

In contrast to Outdoor Raid Encounters, dungeons have been created as instances to allow multiple groups of players to participate in difficult encounters simultaneously and without being hindered by the actions of other like-minded players. Outdoor raid encounters have no such allowances and as such, open themselves up to instances of player collision.

An example of this player collision can be seen with one of the Outdoor Raid bosses, Lord Kazzak. While we expect a certain amount of competition for such high-end creeps, some players have been abusing Kazzak's special abilities with the specific intent to harass other players. At this time, our In-Game Support Staff (Game Masters) will be taking action against players who do not allow other groups to combat Lord Kazzak as intended by the Development Team.

Below are some examples of what we will and will not be taking action against. These examples are broken down by PVP (Player vs. Player) and PVE (Player vs. Environment), as the differing rulesets affect our stance. Keep in mind that these are extreme situations used to clearly illustrate what we do and do not find acceptable. Not all instances will be as cut-and-dry as those listed below. Game Master discretion will be used in grey-area occurrences.

PVE Ruleset

When a group of players has engaged Lord Kazzak, any other players interfering in the encounter may be given a warning, regardless of faction, as in the examples below:

* A group of Alliance characters has legitimately engaged Lord Kazzak and a level 1 Horde character engages Lord Kazzak as well (Level 1 Horde player receives warning).
* A group of Horde characters has legitimately engaged Lord Kazzak and a level 1 Horde character engages Lord Kazzak as well (Level 1 Horde player receives warning).

PVP Ruleset

When a group of players has engaged Lord Kazzak, any same-faction players interfering in the encounter may be given a warning as in the examples below:

* A group of Alliance characters has legitimately engaged Lord Kazzak and a level 1 Alliance character engages Lord Kazzak as well (Level 1 Alliance player receives warning).

However, when a group of players has engaged Lord Kazzak, any players of the opposing faction interfering in the encounter are free to do so as a PVP resolution is available to the "victims."

When we did him we found him to hit 10K on plate, but that wasn't really our problem. Our problem was that horde were flying in and purposely feeding him so that he regains health. Now blizzard said in the last patch that only the people in the raid could feed him.. but its obviously not the caseas countless naked horde would fly in to feed this guy.

With the exception of the DPS warrior gear not much of what is dropped here is truly worth it. The equivalent gear can be found in Kara or Gruul and downing this guy is more about prestigue than any actual guild progression

Be careful of this guy when completing dailies from Magistrix Seyla. I've seen a lot of people get one-shotted when accidentally getting into his aggro radius. This can be extremely annoying when the only Wrath Heralds or Incandescent Fel Sparks (Or whatever they're called) are nearby him. So, try keeping your distance ~~stupid~~!

I'm still wondering what blizzard is thinking adding a questing area just under doom lord Kazzak. You will never be able to kill him unless you do it late at the night because someone will just run by and die from his volley or do something stupid.

I was doing the daily quests by him. A rogue, I think, was trying to kill the heralds in front of Kazzak and got too close. Kazzak 1-hit him with his sword. I was getting $%^&ed because I died a couple times, but that made me LOL.

I also want to add, that it is not a smart idea to be a spectator to a raid trying to kill him... His shadow bolts doesn't only hit the raid members, but pretty much anyone, that is within range... I found out the hard way -.-

I've never fought this guy, but I just about had a heart attack when I got to Hellfire and heard him yelling. A loud, unexpected voice roaring 'The Legion will conquer all!' is not the sort of thing you want to hear while running from a Fel Reaver.

Just a little comment on the description on the "Throne of Kil'jaeden" on this page. It says you can only access this area by the use of a flying mount, but obviously you can also summon a fellow player and use the teleport ability you get as a questreward at Quel'Danas!

Mark of Kazzak can be easily avoided when takeing these percautions.

1.Keep mana spring totems up at all times if a Shaman is in your group.

2.Since the mark only last for 8 seconds takeing away 5% of your mana per tick this totals up to 40% of your mana,Therefore I would try not to use below 50% of my mana,Or atleast so much that it couldnt be restored withen those 8 seconds.

3.Keep alot of mana potions handy for this battle.

4.If all else fails party members should go withen a distance from those with the debuff .

Tip for mages:Always keep a mana emerald equip for this guy.

Tip for hunters:If you get the debuff cast aspect of the viper,As of the new Echoes of Doom patch you gain mana from this per hit.

Tip for Blood elves:Use mana tap on him.

Rogues,Warriors,And the upcomning DeathKnights are good since they do not use mana ;)

He is in fact 4 man-able. We did him with an enhancement shaman, a holy priest, a BM hunter and a protection paladin (me).

Overall you have to make sure the group is healed alot. He hits around 3k on the tank. Most importantly; Depspell his thunderclap to make it easier despelling twisted reflection (you heal him for sick amounts of damage every time you attack)

We had the group fly in right side and tank left side. As a paladin I kept despelling. After about 2 minutes and 20 seconds he was down. Healing his enrage aswell as despelling are the major issues. Once this is up, enjoy a free 100-130g and 2 random epics for alts or AH.

We are all geared in Raid 10man items. A few 25man items here and there.

Just killed him with 3 people, disc-priest, warlock and a death-knight tank (me). The tank should stand with his back against the wall behind Kazzak. Deathstrikes helped a lot to save the priest's mana for dispelling his healing debuff (important!). Keep everyone standing apart, but ofc. within healing range.
Upon pulling him he'll also add several of the non-elite mobs down the ramp, be sure to AoE them down. With the healing debuff up they'll be virtually invincible.

After that it's just tank&spank until he's down.
If you want to save yourself a lot of trouble use non-mana dps-class.

I was wondering my healdin friend and I were trying to 2 man this and we had huge issues with him being punted or knocked back about 200-300 yds wayyyy off the stage even if he had something against his back. I also saw no mention of this ability anywhere or anything.

Do you know why hes being knocked back so far? Is it a bug? Is there somewhere we must stand so it wont happen? Am I doing something wrong as a tank? We are very confused.

Easily three-manned by 80s in tier 8-9. Easily 2-manned by 80s in tier 9-10. I should note that one of us was a prot pally, but a blood-tanking dk would probably work just as well. He drops several hundred gold and the BOE epics still sell for good money.

So, I just thought I would share my experience with this encounter, as it may be useful to some 85s wanting to down this guy.

First of all I'm a feral(tank) druid, with a resto offspec. Both specs have about around 350ilvl for gear(mostly cata heroic dungeon gear, with a few epic crafted/reputaion pieces).

My first strat was very unplanned. I didnt know the fight hardly, so I just went for it in my tank gear/spec. I remember hearing something about blowing up and taking fall damage, so I positioned myself under one of the spikes on the pillar behind him. And like previous posts, several adds came and joined the fight with the boss. However they dont have hardly any health so they can die with 1 or 2 cleave type hits, so at 85 they are nothing to worry about. I was taking very minimal damage, but he puts a debuff on you that lasts for like 45 seconds or somethin retarded like that, and makes it so that whenever he damages you it heals him. So i popped berserk and tried to just dps through it(dont try this, its a waste of time lol). The debuff however is dispellable. It is a magic debuff though so unless you're resto you wont be able to remove it. Now, with more than one person, this might be doable, but it heals him for a good amount so GL with that strat.

My second try I used the good ole' feral gear and resto spec idea. This way i would be able to hot up, and go into bear form to take less dmg, and dps him while my hots did their thing. This definately didnt help as well as it did back when i was soloing AQ. I was just not doin enough dmg as feral with resto spec, cause one hit after he applied the debuff and he was back to full health again. So i scratched that plan.

Finally i decided to just put on my resto gear and heal through the damage, while keepin as many dots on him as i could. This was the strat that FINALLY worked for me.

A couple of the things I had that helped me through this fight:

Nature's Ward - I definately dropped several times throughout the fight and this helped me not have to waste mana casting Rejuvenation on myself. I would just use a Swiftmend after that and get back up to full.

Corrupted Egg Shell & Innervate - As the mana regen in Cata has dropped extremely, I found myself using both of these as they came off cooldown to keep my mana between 70-90%(Also had potions I could have used but never needed to).

For the most part, the boss doesn't hit all that hard. The majority of the time I just kept up Lifebloom and used Nourish to refresh the duration on it. Also, keep up Insect Swarm, and Moonfire on the boss. Occasionally through the fight I decided to put up thorns for a little boost to the damage, but I wouldn't reccommend this as it costs alot of mana now, and may drain you if you try and keep it up. The fight lasted 4min 59sec.

Helpful hints: 1) For some reason as resto he never put the debuff on me that heals himself when he damaged me. So there is no need to dispell anything. The only debuff I ever got was a reduce to movement speed, but that doesnt matter as you'll prolly be standing in the same spot the entire time. 2) He won't put whatever debuff it is that makes you explode if you are the main aggro target, and if soloing, it takes out that mechanic of the fight. 3) If you stand back far enough on the platform, apart from the initial adds that come with him, no more should aggro throughout the fight.

Definitely soloable at 85. Did it as a Blood DK and used Death Strike early and often. Couldn't dispel the Twisted Reflection but it was okay in the end.

Kazzak still exists, I killed him today at ~5 a.m. server. Very soloable as a decently-geared 85 hunter. You cannot summon him, he spawns of his own free will. :)

Solo'd as a Sub. Rogue.

What I recommend is opening with Ambush and with Premeditation, and instantly start recuperating. Recuperate will help alot. Keep it up as MUCH as you can. SnD If you have some Combo Points up and Rupture is on him/Recup is more than half full. Kill the mobs that come in, I find that they can do alot of damage for some reason. A hemo should take them down each.

Once Twisted Reflection pops up, cloak of shadows. If you have cloak of shadows down, and that goes up, I recommend killing some mobs that come in and recuperating while your waiting for your cloak of shadows cd to go off. I found out about this in the middle of the fight.

And thats pretty much it. Solo'd in 4 or so cataclystic peices, no fear/vengence and no buffs at all. Dropped Hope Ender and Ripfiend Shoulderpads. Was pretty fun, gave the shoulder pads to a guildie and selling the Hope Ender for something around 3k.

Just solo'd as an elemental shaman. I saw him and decided to try it. Popped hero and my trinkets/cooldowns (I have Lifeblood as an herbalist and Gift of the Naaru). Basically just burnt him down and healed when I got too low. My gear is mostly just gear from the new heroics with a few pieces of raid finder.

Can be soloed as 85 Enhancement Shaman in 378 dungeon gear.

I popped Bloodlust, Fire Elemental and Wolves right at the start, used Maelstrom charges for LB until he hit about 50% HP, at which point I started using them for healing myself up. Took a total of 2 minutes to drop him that way.

i was just flying from the hellfire portal to shatt when doom lord kazzak's emote/yell came up on my chat as well as hearing it. so you don't have to be at kil'jaeden's throne to know if he spawns, but everyone in hellfire will know. by the time i logged on to my main and got there, an orc was killing it and someone else showed up after. im hoping the 2 day spawn timer is right, ill be there camping it in 2 days. wish me luck :)

As an Arms Warrior, I engaged him using a PvP spec (accidentally) and experienced stance dancing. I used Enraged Regeneration at around 50% and followed this rotation:

Battle Stance > Charge |> Rend > Overpower > *Berserker Stance > Colossal Smash > Slam > Mortal Strike > Battle Stance > Overpower > Repeat from *

I downed him with 4% HP left, so it was a close call, but my gear isn't too good (iLv380).

Might be soloable on a Druid as well.

If you were wondering (like me) if he was removed from the game such as the Dragons of Nightmare, he was not.
He just spawned 7-21-12 at 8:15 PM on Undermine-US.
He dropped two BoE epics, Exodar Life Staff, and Scaled Greaves of the Marksman.

Soloable at 85, just make sure you DO NOT run out of mana. He'll knock you far away, doing fall damage and resetting the fight. Drops good transmog/twink gear, and depending on your server you can make around 4k per kill.

During the TBC launch event in January 2007, Kazzak's replacement in Azeroth was Highlord Kruul. He would show up at major cities on the server, as well as neutral cities like Booty Bay, and even the Searing Gorge, and demolish anyone who came near him, also had minions near the gates with him as well. He often got kited to throne rooms and usually ended up killing everyone in the entire city. Here you can see a video of Kruul showing up in Stormwind and letting no one pass. There was no way for players to enter cities without a flight path usually without dying first, and needless to say, was a very exciting event.

Initial spawn:

Tuesday Night, very late (~1-5%)
Wednesday Night (50-80%)
Thursday Night (15-20%)

Respawn:

2 days after previous kill (30%)
3 days after previous kill (40%)
4 days after previous kill (30%)

He yelled his /emote as I was leveling up skinning in Hellfire. Hoped on my shaman main and just beat another 85 to it. Popped all my cd's as well as hero and dropped him in 10 seconds. A complete joke. lol. A far cry from seeing this massive guy in BC. He stayed up for days at a time because he hit so hard back then on level 70's.

I just killed him today on my Shadow-Priest. I flew up to the Throne of Kil'Jaeden and was eyeballing him when I got to close and he aggrod. I flew up thinking to drop aggro and he didn't care. I landed to fight him and all the other mobs in the area came in and joined the fight. I thought for sure I was dead just from all the different mobs I was dealing with. Killed all the mobs and went to work on him. I did run out of mana because of his one debuff so I popped a mana potion. Then when I got low again I casts dispersion and then used my shadowfiend.

I am going to keep an eye on his area and see when he spawns again.

I got the Scaled Greaves of the Marksman and theExodar Life-Staff

Yes, confirmed he still spawns as of 5.0.4, however, the previous stated spawn times and percent chances to spawn during those times may be up for debate. Since patch hit, I've encountered Kazzak twice but not during the usual times I see him. Both times were early 5a.m.-ish spawns, one this morning (Tuesday) and the other was Sunday morning last week (Sunday morning is easier to explain given re-spawn times).

They performed rolling restarts instead of regular maintenance this morning so I'm not sure how that effects, if it does at all, Kazzak's spawn. But I will most likely be keeping an eye out for him in the mornings now too.

Today the Doom Lord spawned on Stormrage around 3:30 server time. I hadn’t seen him in years. Went for a revenge kill, and made an easy 500 gold out of it. I had thought that they nerfed the amount of gold he dropped.

I just noticed a weird thing about Kazzak spawn timer.

I killed him around 4 am on Wednesday on the Tanaris server, which then went down momentarily around 12 pm on the same day.

At 12:35 pm Kazzak spawned again, I have never seen or heard of him spawning twice in the same day so there might be something weird with his timer.

i was flying towards bt (for transmog) today when i saw an emote from this guy in chat, i checked him and he was actually up killed him in a few hits and got both weapons out of him. So if you see his emote make sure to check on him :)

Note, Crossrealm will not work on this boss if the region you are in is not full enough of players. Crossrealm will not work in this zone i.v tried it with my character on sylvannas it works. tried it with another on magtheridon i did not cross realm. i killed a mob in the zone to see which was my realm and then hit to join another realm group it did not change me and the dead mob was still there

Confirmed:

Spawns.
Spawns multiple times a week.
*All gear (excluding rings) are unique Transmogs except the following:
Exodar Life-Staff which shares an appearance with Staff of the Redeemer.
Ancient Spellcloak of the Highborne which shares an a appearance with Featherskin Cape, Darkmist Cape, Mystical Cape, and Spellbound Cloak.

Unconfirmed:

Multi-tagging.
If you don't have enough inventory space for the loot the loot will not be mailed to your mailbox and you will not be able to contact blizzard support or use item retrieval to get the lost item.

* Confirmed using in-game appearance collection. Leggings of the Seventh Circle Ripfiend Shoulderplates Gold-Leaf Wildboots Topaz-Studded Battlegrips Scaled Greaves of the Marksman are unique apperaces. Hope Ender seems to share an appearance with Spiteblade although wowhead doesn't have these linked and they are separated in game.

Spawn-rate is reduced immense with the current Patch. I killed him at 23:56. During the night i started to look about the Cataclysm-Worldbosses and found about 3 of 5 up on my Realm too. So i started to take Chars to all Worldboss-Spots to farm Transmogg and found Kazzak the 2nd time about 6 hours after my first kill.
Dont waste xxx-k of Gold for getting Transmoggs of them in AH, try to farm them! ;)

He has definately been affected by the recent 7.3.2 changes to spawn timers. I checked every 8 hours to see if he was up with no luck so I just sat at his spawn location and waited. Only took about 4 hours before he spawned. MY guestimate is that he is on a 4-8 hour spawn timer.

Re-spawns is between 3 to 4 hours (current earliest is 3 hours and 5 minutes and current latest is 3 hours and 53 minutes) (as of 7.3.2).
Spawn Time is longer than Re-spawn Time (spent 6+ hours waiting for him to spawn).

Unconfirmed:

From what I've gathered from camping for about a week and getting about 2 kills a day. Longest time he can respawn in is 6 hours, I've yet to see him spawn under 3 hours, the times ive killed him most respawn time has been between 4 hours and 4 hours and 30 minutes. Multi tagging is confirmed from what i've seen only with same faction of course. He does drop 2 items every time, and those 2 items can be the same.

Spawned for me at 23:11 on Monday in EU servers. Died in one hit and dropped Exodar Life-Staff and Gold-Leaf Wildboots. Hopefully this helps more experienced guys with seeing how spawn rates are for him.

Small update: Getting reports from friends that his spawn is really messed up in bfa pre-patch (8.0.1). One said he had 3 kills in 30 minutes while others say that he doesn't spawn all day.

On Shu'halo, me and a friend were leveling through Hellfire Peninsula and within the time of killing him 3 hours later he spawned a second time. Have no idea how this happened, as I thought he had a multiple day spawn timer.

Made the terrible mistake of going over while in Wrath timeline with Chromie. Got absolutely destroyed.
Went back after returning to present timeline but was already dead. Still spawning in 9.0.5. People still farming him.

So just camped this boss for eight straight hours a day for six day with warmode off and he did not spawn at all during those times. The sad thing was I never once went AFK and I was alone in the zone the entire time so no one snuck in and got him. Did this boss go back to only spawning twice a week? Some of the below posts are saying he spawns like 2-4 hours. It is crazy for a boss from like seven expansions ago.

Looks like Hellfire Peninsula is now zone reset, reset will occur if nobody is present within the zone for 15 minutes minimum. So much for farming on dead realms.

I think its time for this boss as well as doomwalker to just have a 5-10 min respawn timer. Make all the gear they drop BoP (since transmog is kind of a small market anyway) and lower the gold they drop to 1-2g.

(EU) Camped for 10hours, alone on a RP realm WM on. Never saw or heard him. This was a saturday from about 12.00 to 22.00 (UTC+02:00). I learned that Doom Lord Kazzak either: doesnt have a respawn timer below 10Hr or he is currently bugged. I used addon NPC time to track if i phased between layers ( i did not).
Update 2025/03/05: i found myself randomly in Hellfire Peninsula when Doom Lord Kazzak shouted his spawning lines, this was in a layer/shard/map with player activity for 12 hours and 20 minutes :D

Even if Kazzak isn't around, it's always worth farming a few Motes of Fire if you're around Throne of Kil'jaeden; for the first time ever, I had him spawn today a few minutes of farming some motes.

I should clarify that killing surrounding mobs does not increase his chance to spawn; rather, you might get some world drop greens and a few Motes of Fire if you feel like hanging around there for a few minutes; in turn, it could very well be his time to spawn!

Confirmed Spawn Pattern for Doom Lord Kazzak – Some Bad News (or Good, Depending How You Look at It)

I have some bad news, or maybe good news, depending on your level of patience, about Kazzak’s spawn cycle. There hasn't been a lot of activity here, but for any old-school completionists this is what I'm seeing in the current retail patch.

Here’s what I confirmed through firsthand testing:

I logged into Hellfire Peninsula at 6:12 a.m. local (5:12 a.m. server).
After a lot of flying around farming other rares in the zone, archeology, and other AllTheThings stuff, exactly four hours later, at 10:12 a.m. local (9:12 a.m. server), Doom Lord Kazzak spawned.
When I first zoned in, none of the PvP arenas were controlled by either faction, so the zone had clearly been reset.

From what I’ve seen and read in other reports, Hellfire Peninsula resets whenever it’s completely unoccupied. In this case, with a fresh reset and an active player present, Kazzak spawned exactly four hours later.

So if you’re just parking an alt and logging in every so often, that’s probably not going to work unless there are enough people around to keep the zone instance “alive.”

In other words, no players = no timer. You’ll likely need to stay logged in or keep the zone active for at least four hours after a reset for him to appear.

Not sure if this helps future farmers or just makes you sigh deeply into your coffee, but at least it’s a data point you can plan around.

Edit: If anyone else tests this and can confirm the four-hour active zone window, please drop your timestamps. Maybe together we can stop living in front of the Dark Portal like sleep-deprived NPCs.

Doom Lord Kazzak

This NPC can be found in Hellfire Peninsula (5).

Melee: between 7,000 to 11,000 on a decently geared tank

Shadow Bolt Volley: Shoots out a volley of Shadow Bolts. The bolts are not affected by line of sight, but range is limited and it can be avoided.

Twisted Reflection: Casts a magical and debuff on a random player in range other than the player with aggro. It will heal Lord Kazzak for a very large proportion of his health each time he deals damage to the player with this debuff. This combined with the Shadow Bolt Volley can ruin the attempt if not dispelled immediately.

Mark of Kazzak: Casts a non-curable debuff on a random player in range with mana. It will drain the target's mana for 5% of his total mana per second and explodes for 5,000 Area of Effect (AoE) damage when there is no more mana to drain. Lasts 8 seconds.

Cleave: Doom Lord Kazzak's Cleave can be avoided if the melee stand behind him. The range of the Cleave seems to be greater than the typical 5yard melee range attack, and seems to extend somewhere between 10-15 yards. The Cleave acts as a Chain Cleave and hits between 6,500-15,000.

Thunderclap: An AoE spell dealing high nature damage, and slowing movement and attack speed.

Void Bolt: A strong bolt he may cast only on the player with aggro, deals 4,000-5,000 shadow damage. Also reduces movement speed by 50%.

Capture Soul: When a player gets killed, Kazzak will instantly regenerate 150,000hp.

Enrage: After one minute, Doom Lord Kazzak will enrage, increasing his damage done by 30%. At this time, Doom Lord Kazzak will send out 6 waves of Shadowbolt Volley. The enrage will end after the 6th volley.

General Tips

Getting more than 1 enrage usually is a sign that your raid's damage is too low.

Both Thunderclap and Twisted Reflection should be dispelled as soon as possible.

Shadow resistance and absorption consumables help a lot.
