theese fish dont seem to be fished from actual 'school's' but rather are the indiginous species to the area of howling fjord, 2 lakes for instance to the east and west of the northern area of howling fjord (co-ord's (43,21) & (64,20)) offer bonescale snapper at a high drop rate fished anywhere in the lake the only "schools" you will find ive only seen as 1 breed of fish there.
by the time i fished 60 bonescale i had about 40 artic salmon i think it was, and about 8 of a low drop fish.

Random fish that's not fished from a school is....you guessed it, random. It means nothing to keep posting about where you fished it up as long as it was consistent with inland waters, and not coastal.

There is no "sweet spot" to fish these, sweet spots are schools of specified fish. Just stick to inland waters and you'll be fine, the same as how coastal waters is where you get Rockfin Grouper.

The Decrepit Flow, just before the entrance into Icecrown/ outside of Dalaran; caught nothing but bonescale snappers.. which is much better than the "chance" to catch them and end up with a bunch of randoms. Requires 405 fishing at least.

Not a noob question at all. Actually a very good question. Don't know the fishing level required for each of the areas mentioned here. I do know some of the fishing spots in Northrend need 430 fishing. I caught Bonescale Snapper with fishing level 427(402 +20 (Rod) + 5 (Hat)), sry don't recall where. Gotta love Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat

Different areas have different ratios of fish for non-pool casts. These ratios are fixed, and with sufficiently large samples you can find these "sweet spots". For example, if you look at http://www.elsanglin.com/fish/bonescale_snapper.html you will find that Crystalsong Forest has a higher drop rate in their testing.

In old world fishing at least, these ratios could vary depending on sub-zones even, which means that particular areas in the zone could in fact be better than others. I don't know if Bliz continued this trend with Northrend or not.

This is not to say that "I caught a lot of these at X" is very useful to say however. Unless you are using a mod that keeps track of what you have caught and can post numbers for the zone/sub-zone in sample sizes getting into several hundred, it's probably not statistically valid.

For anyone who has caught a lot of these and is just going to vendor them, you might as well make them into Grilled Bonescale; a stack of plain Bonescale Snapper vendors for 1.6 silver, while a stack of the Grilled stuff sells for 60 silver. Nice increase for no extra work.

This fish actually isn't bad as pure HP/Mana food for the grinder/quester on the go. Since it makes Grilled Bonescale which is available to be eaten at 70: it beats vendor food in terms of regen rates. Coupled with the fact that it only takes up one slot as compared to two with 1 food & 1 water, you can have next to no downtime as you go with bag space to spare. That plus it's pretty common to be fished up - I'd consider this the WoTLK equivalent of Barbed Gill Trout due to how easy it is to fish up a stack of these.

Also: since they make Snapper Extreme as well - easily passed out in raids/groups for those of us who aren't hit-capped yet. I've given away almost 20 stacks of these fish to guildies to cook at their leisure.

In short: make about 2 stacks of these for an alt or your main and say goodbye to spending 2-5G on vendor food again. I'd imagine if it's so commonly fished up that the price of a stack of these on AH doesn't pass 3-6G. Also makes great fodder for levelling Cooking if you're new to Northrend.

Great spot, Howling Fjord around 68,81. There is a long shelf of ice you can stand on. It's on the coast right where the boat goes in the fjord at that entrance to the right. I've caught Bonescales 4 outta 5 casts. The others you'll randomly catch are the Glacial Salmon and Fangtooth Herring, less seldomly than the Bonescale. Both can be cooked into sellers. The Fangtooth is MP5 food and the Glacial Salmon is spell power food. And of course the occasional Pygmy Suckerfish will be caught.

Also, in this spot and to the left of that fjord entrance are Imperial Manta Ray nodes. TONS of nodes. To the left are about four that are usually spawned and to the right there is one that spawns about every five minutes or so. There are no mobs to deal with at all and no one is ever there on either side of the entrance.

I caught this at a very low level, probably about 68-70, with no bonuses or lure, just the regular lowbie vendor pole. I caught two of them around the northern lake in Howling Fjord where you go for the Winter's Edge daily.

This was on my warlock, Senith (Draenor US PvE).

Just fished one of these out of Rageclaw Lake in Zul'Drak with 137 fishing, so I do not know now if these guys really have a requirment of fishing level.

Finishing for 30 minutes in the Decrepit Flow in Crystalsong Forest w/ fishing skill of 575 (so no trash or missed casts), I got:

71 bonescale snapper
42 glassfin minnow
1 crystalized water
13 pygmy suckerfish
2 reinforced crates (which had 2 pieces of frostweave cloth each)

also- if you are going to fish here, walk a bit into the water to avoid "water too shallow"

Pit of Saron (at time of posting this) has a 173% success fait for casts. Um.... No.

Just a lesson in treading carefully when looking at drop rates / catch rates on this website.
