All you have to do is right-click on your stack of scraps, and if you have enough scraps (5), it'll create a borean leather instantly. No more making scraps into leather the slow way and no need to be a LW to do it.

Knut was right on point with this. There is no better place to grind for Leather, plus if you just grind till all your bags are full you can easilly pull off 100g from trash drops as well. Another idea me and some of my guildies had was to bring someone that is lvl 75+ with you so that the free experience doesn't go to waist :) (Great for power leveling)

The best place I've found is a loop in Sholazar Basin. Just east of Frenzyheart Hill there is a place with a bunch of white, non-aggressive gorillas.

If you start at the area with the large pack, kill them all by your preferred method (me: L80 BM-hunter, so it's easy with pet), skin them all. Go a little north and there will be a black gorilla and the road. Kill him, skin him then head west up the road, but don't kill any gorillas on the way.

Continue up until you come to where you see a rock with two white gorillas on each side and a lone gorilla a little to the north. Start with him, work your way down toward Frenzyheart, then east and back toward the large group of gorillas.

The reason this works best is, if no one else is around, by the time you get back to any point in the loop the gorillas will have respawned. If you use a gorilla as your pet you can tank them all and take them down quickly. I use a cat since it can run between mobs and aggor many quickly, but it's personal preference really.

Was able to get enough borean leather to make about 25 heavy borean leather per hour. You also will collect tons of chilled meat as well, which sells pretty good in the AH.

However, arctic fur drop from gorillas is very low, but I think goes for every mob.

2 great ninja-spots for you guys I didn't see on this topic yet:

- Scholazar Basin, West of Nesingwary Base Camp.
Alot of people will be killing mobs here for The Great Hunter's Challenge or any of the Mastery quests, meaning alot of dead bodies all over the East and West side of the road leading to The Maker's Perch.

- Storm Peaks, East of Brunnhildar Village. (Valley of Ancient Winters)
Again alot of people will be farming either mammoths for Raising Hodir's Spear or worms who get in their way for Spy Hunter. Either way, alot of dead bodies again ripe for the picking :)

So if your too low level for the unending Worg-spot try the basin, or if your flying to the Worgs take a quick peek of the valley... if there are alot of people in the area you'll get alot of leathers fast, faster then you would at the worgs.

With the new patch as we are in now, 3.0.8!
They have changed the respawntime of the Cavedweller Worgs in the storm peaks (cave) Big time, and they give more damage.
Its been used for massive farming of borean leather, Not anymore.

If you still whant too farm here you can go down the cavern then up agian, too not avoid the respawn time.

" This is no longer a place worth farming unfortunately. :( " I disagree what vw86gti says, if you pull the first mobs at the entrance and kill them, then go futher in at a small pathway there are groups there with worms take them out, then go all the way in get those groups there, then get back too the entrance where they have respawn. :) The biggest worg in there might come unexpected toward with full hast, so be rdy.

Since the Worgs were nerfed, I find that killing the Rhinos in The Storm Peaks yield a decent amount of leather. Also, the Wyrms that fall from the sky are skinnable, so that's a plus.

An alternative to the Cavedweller Worgs, I found the gorillas in the Sholazar Basin to be wonderful. As a feral druid, i run into the packs and use demo shout, becuase they are not hostile mobs, so i can get the aggro. They I just spam Maul/Swipe and take them down. The Cords of the places I farm are:

66,78 64,75 61,71 56,75

You probably won't need to travel to all of these the respawn time is really quick.

My favourite place to farm these is the monkeys in sholazar basin. The trash that drops from them sell for a fair amount too, and when you've killed and skinned all the monkeys there, go and empty your bags at the oracles/frenzyheart base and by the time you get back they should've respawned.

As an alternative to the now fixed worgs and the aforementioned gorillas, I find that the Jormungar and Mammoths in the Valley of Ancient Winters are great for farming these. Just west of Dun Niffelheim, there is a valley which contains an abundance of Jormungar and packed mammoths. There is also a cave with a number of Jormungar in it. The best part of this area is that the Jormungar in the valley is heavily farmed for reputation with the Sons of Hodir via daily quests and the ones in the cave are killed off because they are in the way for another mob (which is neutral and does not attack on sight), also for dailies with the Sons of Hodir.

I can almost always find Jormungar dead in the caves on my server (US Medivh) and I find the packed mammoths good for AoE packs. The Jormungar outside are farmed by players above the Revered level with the Sons of Hodir and are often killed anyways because again, they are in the way for another one of the daily quests with the Sons of Hodir.

I have seen people selling stacks of 20 below the nominal vendor price. Nerubian Legguards sell for 5g 33s to vendors and cost 8 Borean Leather. This means the minimum AH price should be 13g33s + AH vig or ~14g.

The Scholazar Basin gorillas are definitely the way to go. They drop 1 Borean Leather each (guaranteed no scraps), and come in bunches of around 8, so it makes for great AOE farming. As an 80 Hunter, I went there with a gorilla pet, and just did the old Thunderstomp/Misdirect/Volley trick. Skinned around four stacks in 20 minutes, but I was held back by my slow mount, you'll definitely go faster if you've got an epic flyer. The Hardknuckle Foragers (non-agressive) ones are what you are looking for, they're scattered all around the lower-right corner of the Basin, but there's a few places where they are bunched together in groups of 8 or 10:

The last spot is a little out of the way, but the first four are close together, so you can do a really efficient circuit between those points.

As an added bonus, two of the points above are also near spawn points for the Loque, so you can look for him while farming.

The only negative is that they frequently drop Barrels, which stack individually, so make sure you bring plenty of bag space.

Sholazar Basin is a really good place to farm those, mainly because of the non-aggressive Gorillas there. Here is a map of the different spawn points, they are very near - so very little downtime.

For Borean Leather I like to farm at Argent Vanguard area. Pre-quest completion.

NOTE: If you have completed the quests there, the mob's will NOT be available.

1. The mobs have a fast spawn time.
2. Argent NPCs in the area will assist in killing attackers.
3. Cocooned NPC's can open a paladin who will buff and heal you, or yield another enemy to fight.
4. Good farming spot for arctic fur.
5. Good farming spot for nerubian chitin.
6. Good farming spot for Frostweave. Especially if you are a tailor.

If you don't mind moving much, the Gundrak Raptors in Zul'Drak are excellent for farming leather. First of all, a set number of mobs will be up at all times; if the population falls too low, the game will automatically spawn new mobs. Secondly they give 1-3 pieces of leather at a time, and as an added bonus they have a very small chance of dropping a vanity pet.

As a kind of compendium of the suggestions for leather farming:

Source 1: Dragon mobs in Violet Hold.
Pros: If you are the only skinner, you can get some easy stacks from just skinning the elites.
Cons: Finding a group for heroics.

Source 2: Cavedweller Worgs
Pros: Low-HP, spawns in pairs, Jormungar worms also spawn in the area. Also getting Worm Meat and Worg Haunch.
Cons: You end up very deep in a cave, sometimes the Jormugar worms damage the wolves to the point where you can't loot them.

Source 3: Gorillas in Sholazar Basin.
Pros: 3-4 good groups of mostly neutral apes, easy and safe to AoE down.
Cons: Highly annoying vendor trash, can sometimes get a lot of competition.

Source 4: Gundrak Raptors
Pros: Each time you skin them, you get 1-3 pieces of leather instead of just one. Also chance of getting rare pet.
Cons: Relatively spread out, cannot really group them up.

Source 5: Enraged Mammoths
Pros: By the time you make one circuit, they will have respawned at the start. Also getting Chunk o' Mammoth (sometimes dropping 2 at a time).
Cons: Technically a questing mob, sometimes humanoid pats will get in your way.

Personally, I pick the source depending on what else drops that I want at the time. If I want to refresh my stock of Worg Tartare, then I will hit up the caves. If I want to make some coin selling Chunk o Mammoth, I will farm the Mammoths. And so on.

One of my farming spots is Engine of the Makers in Storm peaks (it's sorta in the middle of the region). This is where I get my Leather, Rhino Meat, the occasional Icy Dragonscale, and the occasional Chilled Meat.

There are rhinos all over the place, mostly in herds, and dragons just a little bit to the east. There are two mines in the area as well, so if you're also a miner, you may find further use of this place.

The area is big enough so you almost never seem to run out of rhinos or dragons to kill, but sometimes the dragons will come down and steal your rhino (the bastards). This area is also phased, so people who have progressed in the Argent Tournament won't be able to see or attack you (or vice-versa). Not to mention, a couple of VERY rare spawns fly over/around this area.

After about 20 minutes of farming, I have:

55x Borean Leather
1x Arctic Fur

26x Rhino Meat
8x Chilled Meat

3 Green items

40x Stinking Fur (3g 90s per stack)
10x Pearly Horn (~2g 50s)
1 Grey Item (~2g)

Edit: The Rhinos here are 78-79, and the dragons are 80. You might need to fly to get to this area - I can't remember.

Hibernal Cavern in The Storm Peaks isn't too bad if you don't one shot the Ravenous Jormungar. Worm Meat, Chilled Meat (from the bears) and Jormungar Scales.. pretty good deal if you ask me.

A word of warning though.. Do Not do the quest chain for The Sons of Hodir. There is rarely anyone in the cave, and most just rush through for the quest item and are gone.

Extremely Good Spot to Farm Leather is North of Warsong Hold Theres 15+ Groups of 4-6 Rhinos, with a few Hostiles Tossed in, You get both Borean or Scraps, easily farmed as a Bm Hunter w/ Tenacity Pet.

This has most likely been posted several times previously.. but in my opinion the best farming location that I can actually put up with, so to speak, would have to be outside Engine Of The Makers, The Storm Peaks.

There are small herds of Ice Steppe Rhinos that spawn at very short intervals, and individual Rhinoceros's plodding around the area.

Each Rhinoceros will yield a single Borean Leather if skinned, the loot includes Stinking Fur (81%(3 gold 90 silver)), Rhino Meat (52%(these are used during a specific cooking daily, I recommend selling them in units of four during the daily, or stacks)), Pearly Horn (19%(4 gold 95 silver per stack)), Chilled Meat (11%(10-20 gold per stack)) and random greys, greens etc.

Notes:
Stormpeak Wyrms will be killing and flying away with the Rhinos on the random occasion, so if your current target was just killed by said Wyrm, just loot the Rhino, kill and skin the Wyrm.

Edit: For all you guys who are looking for Time-Lost Proto Drake or Vyragosa rare spawns. I'd recommend spamming this macro:

I've been skinning Borean Leather for quite some time and I've found Sholazar Basin to be unmatched; but you have to skin the right area.

The entire area South, Southeast, and East of Frenzyheart Hill is infested with Hardknuckle Forager's and Hardknuckle Charger's. You can get mobs anywhere from 3 at a time up to 10 at a time.

It takes about 10-minutes to make one complete round; rinse and repeat from where you began you'll find they already respawned.

After an hour of skinning I got 220 Borean Leather from these primates. =)

If your looking to farm this stuff then follow these simple steps:

1) Empty anything you don't need for said farming session into your bank. The only thing you should be taking with you are bandages (unless you can self-heal) a hearthstone food/water and maybe a couple potions. If you have the mount with vendors or jeeves then more power to you.

2) Go to south eastern Howling Fjord where the dwarves are digging out another one of their shiny giants. If you're having trouble finding it then look for the camp where the hawk trainer quest line is. It's also near where you get the Friend or Fowl achievement. If you're STILL having trouble finding it, it's directly south west of the town who's boat ships you to Menithil in the Eastern Kingdoms.

3) Have your AoE's ready and go to town on the seals that spawn in numbers. Best to work your way west-to-east and round up about 2-4 groups (depending on your skills). Which is about 15-30 mobs per pull. Depending how gutsy you are.

4) Kill > Loot > Skin > Fly back to town when need be.

I've done this countless times for leather farming and this is what I usually get after about an hour (my dps SUCKS!):

120+ Borean Leather
8+ Arctic Furs
5+ Green items (sold)
And obviosely vendor trash that gets sold

All in all I get around 110+g selling everything (aside from AH profits from the leathers/furs) and I usually go until I have either 40 Arctic Furs or an entire bag is filled with Borean Leather.

For all the level 85 that are farming leather. Best place I found to farm these is in The Oculus.
All trash mobs to first boss are dragons that can be skinned, once cleared, get out reset and do it again.

Key points
Heroic can only be farmed once. Not really worth the effort since leather drop rate is still same with reg.
Just stick to reg.

If you kill first boss, you get grab drake mount to just fly back to start point instead of riding back in circle. It will last one hour. Which can also be used to keep track how long you been farming.

Town is very near so if bag full of grey, you can vendor it easy or if you have vendor mount just mount up within instance.

if you're a lowbie level 70 and can't get to sholazar basin because the mobs are too high then the shoveltusk packs in howling fjord drop decent amounts of leather, some scraps but it's unavoidable at that level.,

As an 85 your best bet is to solo Drak'Tharon keep. If you can stealth or camo your way to the Aviary where all the bats are. There's like 15 or so of them and they each drop 1-3 borean leather. Then fight your way to King Dredd killing and skinning raptors along the way, they also drop 1-3 borean leather. King Dredd himself dropped 6 for me. Run back out reset the instance, rinse and repeat.

I think this is a great way to get borean leather. Plus you'll have no competition!

I don't believe Gundrak has been mentioned here. I did it on normal and got 45 Borean Leathers in roughly 5 minutes = 225 leathers on 5 runs.

+ Skinnable mobs are in the very beginning of the instance - fast in, fast out
+ Each give 1-3 Borean Leathers, no leather scraps, scales or other "useless" by-products

- Instance lock if you reset 5 times within the hour
- Takes a while to get there

First boss can't be skinned and don't forget the vipers in the water.

As a level 85 warrior leveling LW, i needed a great way to farm this leather. There are lots of mobs in Northrend to farm but i find it easier to farm instances, since the mobs don't leash and you can pull large packs.

I tried a few place including Gun Drak and those places but i found Oculus to be the best.

the only mobs to skin are on the initial platform, so you get right down to business. At 85 as a warrior i can use victory rush to heal through all the damage and pull them all at the same time.

Three resets and i got:

100 borean leather
50 ish icy dragon scales Icy Dragonscale
and 4 artic fur

Now getting the icy dragonscales does down the ammount of leather, but they vend for 20g a stack, and you also get a few BOE greens that vend for quite a bit. This all took about 15 or so minutes and i ended up about 100g ahead.

Strategy is very easy. Enter, mount up, run to the portal to the first boss and kill everything that follows you. reset, repeat. Heroic just gets you more icy dragonscales it looks like.

I tried the aforementioned Cavedweller Worgs and was not dissapointed. At lvl 80 it was easy to kill the worms fast enough to let the worgs reset, and after two full runs in and out I was left with:

>Over 5 stacks of Borean Leather
>Less than a full bag full of vendor trash worth a total of 40g
>Over two stacks of Worg haunches
>And a stack each of Chilled Meat and Worm Meat

All of this took only about 30 minutes. Most definitely worth a stop if you need Borean Leather.

As of early 4.2, on a ilvl370 boomkin i farmed this in Oculus normal, clearing only first wing (up to the teleporter)

It is a good place. It takes 4min to clear it once and gives ~31 leather, along with greenies/trash drops and occasional Arctic fur. I think Arctic fur drop is standarised, in acquiring 700 leather i got 7 Arctic furs. Note that this is with guild perk.

HOWEVER.
Since it takes only 4min to clear it once and you can only enter 5 instances in an hour, that results in a LOT of downtime. 20min active skinning for ~155 leather and then 40min waiting for dungeon entrance lock to reset.

Also, on another negative side, 1/5-1/4 of the skinning drops are Icy Dragonscales.

These raptors drop 1-3 (maybe more with the guild perk) Borean Leather PER SKIN.

I stumbled across this one day after a guildie told me they dropped high amounts of leather. Tested it myself and after about an hour and a half I filled a 28 slot LW bag with Borean Leather and Arctic Fur. The trash loot was good, picking up lots of grays, greens, and I even snagged Gundrak Hatchling (which is a retardedly low drop %)

If you look at my link as well as the NPC's spawn link on the page for the Gundrak Raptors, all you are doing is just following the path of where they are. Just fly around in a constant circle and kill them until you get your required leather or are bored.

I cannot confirm at this current time if the drop rate is still the same, due to not being in game until next month, if anyone who is wanting to try this out could confirm that would be great.

I just tried the Oculus in Borean Tundra. Just the initial U shaped island and found it to be decent for a few reasons. First, I am an 85 Arcane Mage and spammed Arcane Explosion the whole way through for the most part.

Each run took 5-6 minutes to complete and reset.

On five runs I got:

139 Borean Leather
48 Icy Dragonscales
3 Arctic Furs
5 Green Items
2 Blue Item
36 gold in trash

and a bonus this month, the gave me Lovely Charms for the Love is in the Air event and would provide Grisly Trophies for the Darkmoon Faire quest.

I think Wildgrowth Mangal in Sholazar is a pretty good place to farm. The cobras and crocolisks are close to each other and there are lot of them. The only downside is they drop almost no greens at all.

By far the best place for Borean Leather is Sholozar Basin. I started at near the Maker's Perch @ 32.49, 38.24 working my way to 20.76, 60.03 killing the Shardhorn Rhinos and Dreadsabers, both lvl 76. I worked my way east to towards the Nesingway Base Camp and worked my way back to the start point. Worked this path 3 times and nearly filled my 28 slots LW bag. I also picked up a few green items along the way, and the gold from the trash make this the best spot for me. I tried the gorillas, but they are scattered to far apart. Hope this helps and happy hunting.

I decided to head out to Zul'drak since 3 different farming places were mentioned for the zone. I did Drak'Tharon Keep, Gundrak and the Gundrak Raptors as suggested by Sparqt. I spent 20 minutes at each location. This is without the guild perk.

Drak'Tharon Keep - 20 minutes gave me 2 runs from zone in to out. I killed all the bats and raptors, as well as King Dred. Being a shaman, I have no stealth, but ghost wolf was helpful. I still had to stop to kill several mobs that I couldn't sneak around.

Total after 2 runs -64 Leather, 5 scraps, 1 Arctic Fur

Gundrak - 20 minutes gave me 3 runs since I didn't need to kill my way in to the skinnable mobs. I also made sure to kill the random snakes hiding in the water.

Total after 3 runs - 144 Leather, 0 scraps, 0 fur

Gundrak Raptors - I actually killed any bats that got in my way, too, so YMMV. Only problem I had with these is that sometimes if you use dismount on cast and fly in nuking on a raptor, their health will dip and go right back to full.

Total after 20 minutes - 137 Leather, 0 scraps, 1 Fur

So I'd say your best bet is to run Gundrak until you hit the lockout, then just pop outside and farm the raptors until your instance timer resets.

as a 85 blood dk went to gundarak 3 runs net me 133 borean leather 2 blues 1 green and 105 gold of garbage. took about 15 min and im only pulling the first 2 rooms.

As a level 85 Feral Druid, I've found the best place to farm these is in Zul'Drak, over by Gundrak. The Gundrak Raptors drop 1-3 Borean Leather. Now granted, it's next to impossible to gather a group of them, but I still think it's one of the easiest ways to go. In twenty minutes, I can get 2-4 stacks, depending on the drop rate. Respawn rate isn't bad at all; by the time I've circled around and hit all the ones on one side, the other side has already spawned back in.

Baring that, the Stoic Mammoths in Storm Peaks also aren't too bad. If you can hit the herds with an AoE, and wipe them out like that, I can usually get 2-3 stacks every half hour. The respawn time on these is great; not exactly sure of the time, but by the time I wipe out one group, the next group has usually already respawned.

The gorillas in Sholazar aren't too bad, but other than the Hardknuckle Clearing, there's not a lot of spots where you don't have to run around, and get them together. They're scattered, making it hard to aggro them (at least as a Feral Druid in Cat form). This is definitely a last resort for me.

I found Violet hold most useful at lvl 85. Mobs can be taken down easily and bosses are not much. After just 2 runs i got 106 borean leather, 19 Icy dragonscale and 1 Arctic Fur.

Another good spot for this is just north of The Argent Stand in Zul'Drak (area centred around 37, 52).

There are two quests to kill the mobs there: Zul'Drak Bat (Clipping Their Wings) & Trapdoor Crawler (Stocking the Shelves) - while running those quests (took approx 10-15 mins with a lvl 76 hunter which had the Bountiful Bags Guild perk) I got 55 Borean Leather and 1 Arctic Fur.

Spawn rate seems quite good too.

This is a favorite spot of mine that requires a high lvl character.

Location: The Oculus (located in the Borean Tundra right on top of the Nexus entrance and below the raid entrance for the Eye of Eternity)

Where to farm: The oculus is made up of what I call tiers/levels and where you want to farm is on the very first tier there are lots of dragonkin, both whelps and the full grown.

My recommended tactic: A requirement for this to be the best spot you've ever encountered is that you are at least lvl 85 and well equipped if you're like me and lvl 90 it's a cake walk.

Enter the instance and if you're not mounted, mount up and run through all the mobs of dragonkin pulling the whole tiers worth of mobs. Run to the end where there are three of the large dragonkin standing near a blackish light anomaly which ports you to the next platform. Pull those three and back track a little bit. Put out your AoEs and they drop like flies. With the newish AoE looting this is the best place by far to farm Borean Leather. Skin all the corpses and head back to the dungeon entrance, port out, reset, and go back in.

In one run which takes no more than five minutes as a 90 I get between 34-43 leather per run. And please, for those of you that read this and see how awesome it is, please don't post this all over the internet as it will most likely be nerfed to oblivion if Blizzards hears too much of it =D Cheers!

***UPDATE***
12/13/2014 For some reason the Heroic Difficulty has been nerfed really badly. I only got 8 leather on heroic but normal, which you can reset unlike heroic, still gave me 31 leather from one pull.

5 dungeons completed in 25 minutes (including 3 runs to the Nexus quest hub vendors)

194 x Borean Leather
34 x Icy Dragonscale
1 x Arctic Fur

~80g in grey/green vendor trash

Very fast way to gather the leather, max out my dungeon locks and spend the next 40 minutes doing my dailies until it unlocks again.

With the introduction of Cross Realm Zones, farming leather can be a little difficult. When I hit Borean Leather, I almost immediately headed for Sholazar Basin to try my luck there, stopping in Borean Tundra to skin a few of the neutral deer along the way to ensure my skinning was up to par with the zone.

This is so far, by far the BEST place to farm leather! Not only are there a bunch of beasts around to kill and skin, but so far it seems a lot of players are looting the corpses, and half the time I don't have to kill anything, which saves on time and bag space.

Be sure to come try your hand at farming this type of leather out in Sholazar, especially if you're a hunter looking for King Krush, Aotona, or Loque. :)

In my realm, I went to the Argent Vangard, just head to the Icecrown Citadel, then make a right. There's plenty of Borean Leather there; the Spiders are your source. Fast re-spawn, and plenty of work. I got 140 pieces of Borean Leather, plus, another 40 pieces of Nerubian Chitin, which if you're a leatherworker, you'll need that too!

If you have a lvl90 skinner trying to level leatherworking on an alt, I suggest going into Obsidian Sanctum 10m and clear it.

All it took was 30sec, just run in pop everything and go straight to Sartharion, the adds will come to you and simply AoE them down, I was on my 500ilvl DK alt if you are wondering.

I got approx 100g(vendoring items + gold bag), 3 stacks of Borean Leather(I have Bartering perk), 1 stack of Icy Dragonscale, 1 Arctic Fur.

All that took less than 5mins including flying there.

Can i just add that the rhino's and dreadsaber's can give up upto 5 lots of leather if you are lucky same with the rhino's no scraps at all

If you are leveling while skinning, the Whooly Rhinos are a good source, even though you mostly only get scraps.
At 70, the mobs give 1000-1250 xp, which, if you round them up in groups, could be 5-6k per group, and 5-10 scraps/leather per group. They are also not very spread apart, so farming them with AoE is easy.

They can be found in huge groups around Warsong Hold, but in the north they are least spread apart, though there are a lvl71 quest mob there as well, riding a rhino.

Currently doing this with my level 70 Shaman, and I've gotten 5 stacks of Borean Leather in 10 minutes, and a bunch of xp.

I'll just add my 2 cents-
Just spent an hour skinning varmints in west Scolazar Basin, got 160ish leathers-no scraps, 1 arctic fur, 3 greens, a chest with a blue, and about 100 cooking meats.
A decent area as a 90, you can scoop them up 2, sometimes 3, at a time. I believe there's some quests in the area so you can skin other people's leftovers which is always nice.

The best place I have found to farm this in the Wildgrowth Mangal, pulling both Mangal Crocolisk and Emperor Cobra. There are several areas where they are groped together. You cannot AOE them. But if you fly low to the ground you can amass a pretty large group and then one-shot them if you are on a higher level toon.

My favourite spot to farm ~~Boring Leather~~ Borean Leather is in The Violet Hold
Imagine: This whole dungeon 15 waves of blue dragons. 2 boss waves and a final boss
The blue dragons are in waves of 1,3 or 4, and each drop about 1-3 Borean Leather
Also, 1 of the random bosses could be Lavanthor, which drops 5-7 Borean Leather
Last but not least, the last boss always is Cyanigosa, which is skinnable for 1-7 Borean Leather or 1-5 Icy Dragonscale

And now, the total points ( Plus, mediums and minus )

+ All the trash is skinable
+ 1 of the random bosses is skinable
+ The last boss is skinable
+ A lot of greenies and blues
+ It is a dungeon: there is no one there to steal your hides

Med: All the mobs are also skinnable for Icy Dragonscale, which can work both ways ( except Lavanthor )
Med: There is a chance to drop Arctic Fur

- There might be faster ways

WARNING: Do this on NORMAL, because on HEROIC a lot of the mobs/bosses don't give anything

As eschient said, Gundrak is an amazing place to farm this leather.

I've tried the other places suggested such as Violet Hold and Oculos.

Its a bit annoying having to run all the way up and down the ramp but the output is worth it. Pure leather, no scales or other crap. About 40 leather per run, too.

All you have to do is run across the bone piles, collect all the snakes up to second boss and that's all.

After trying all the spots listed in the previous comments I decided to try the Ruby Sanctum. Turns out that that was the easiest way I've found. After 5 runs I ended with just shy of 400 borean leather, 84 Icy Dragonscales, 117 Frostweave Cloth, and roughly 225 gold. It's extremely easy, fast, and painless. Yes it's great if you're a high level (or full Looms) and can go and solo Ruby Sanctum, Gundrak, Violet Hold, Obsidian Sanctum or Oculos.
If you're a lower level or just don't feel like soloing a dungeon/Raid here's a few places I have farmed in.

From lvl 68 to 75 just skin all you kill. Plenty of mobs in Borean Tundra / Howling Fjord and Grizzly Hills to keep you going.

Sholazar Basin - To the west side just by Nesingwary Base Camp 26:59 for the Shardhorn Rhino and Dreadsabers lvl 75/76.
30mins - Server-time 7pm - 42 Scraps, 88 Leather, 2 Arctic Fur, 19 Rhion Meat, 16 Chilled Meat & 16.38g in vendor trash.

On the South-East side near Frenzyheart Hill are Hardknuckle Forager's/Chargers lvl 76/77. These mobs go all the way up the slope right to the wall of the Basin.
30mins - 96 leather, 1 Arctic Fur, 68 Chilled Meat, 2 Greens and 33.26g in vendor trash.

Valley of Echoes right outside the Argent Vanguard 86:75 in Icecrown (this zone will phase!). If you have done the quests for the Vanguard Forgotten Depths Slayer & Carrion Fleshstripper ( lvl 77/78) will no longer spawn.
In 30min I got 88 leather, 15 Nerubian Chitin, 1 Arctic Fur, 11 Cloth, 20g in cash drops and 26.52g in vendor trash.

Gimorak's Den in Storm Peaks 46:55. Cavedweller Worgs & Infesting Jormungar lvl 79/80. 30min - 119 leather, 14 Jormungar Scale, 3 Arctic Fur, 31 Worm Meat, 17 Chilled Meat, 31 Worg Haunch & 25.50g in vendor trash.

All these animals are for a quests so you might get some 'free skinning', unless you get that person that sees you skinning so stops looting (you know who you are, shame on you!). Also don't be that d*ck that gets in the way of people questing.

Somebody mentioned clearing The Obsidian Sanctum on 10man and I wanted to elaborate on that since the Legion expansion.

If you're high enough level you can go in 25man.

Head right for the boss Sartharion and take it down; all the other mobs will come at you. Wait for most/all of them to get within AOE range then nuke the place. I skinned 50 borean leather in addition to some icy dragonscales in one minute.

I know its not a grind for hundreds of mats but it's right next to The Ruby Sanctum where many more skinnable dragons are.

In (Legion) Dalaran you can port directly to Wyrmrest Temple in Dragonblight and spank out two quick 25man normal raids for all the obvious rewards.

For BFA - Tried both Obsidian Sanctum and Ruby Sanctum. On 10 man normal, both yielded about 40 borean leathers, but Ruby was by far the easiest of the two to pull all mobs without pulling the mini bosses that would lock you to the raid and aoe down in one fell swoop. For heroic 25 man Ruby, I got about 50 leathers. I hadn't been paying attention to the amount of the icy dragonscale drops, but after two 10R and a 25H, I have 138. The loss of the Wyrmrest portal in 8.1.5 means it's a bit more of a ride to get there, but not too awful.

Also - after my own oopsiedoodles, I recommend pulling only half the zone at a time - otherwise, the bodies disappear before you have a chance to skin them all.

I did try Ruby Sanctum and i got what i would call a ok amount of Borean leather but also got Ivy dragonscale sadly even that you skin them in the packs as they patrol there is still several not skinnable because of despawn so decided try Gundrak instead. Dont kill any bosses but take the serpents with you by running into them up to last pack before second boss and aoe them down there. Run out and reset.
Gundrak gave me 384 Borean leather and 3 Arctic fur before i got the message "you have entered too many instances recently" so what i did was just skin outside while time went by to i could start over again.
I would definitive say Gundrak is a good choice and fast and you dont loose leather due to despawn.
Hope this can be a help to someone.

For those who try instances only to end up with nothing or close to it with all the empty skins, I have discovered a... very crappy work around.

Don't train LK Skinning.

Yeah... sounds absolutely stupid. But works. Was farming gold and appearances with a skinner that didn't have LK skinning learned, and every skinnable corpse gave leather. Of course it's only scraps, but it works on all the leather types (Leather Dragonscales and Chitin)

There is a patch of land in Borean Tundra at 63, 12, west of the crashed necropolis Talramas, that has 5 packs of Wooly Mammoths and Mammoth Calves.

They are a little bit spread apart (something like 40-80 yards between each pack), but what's good about them is that at least one pack will always be present - as soon as you kill the last pack, another one will spawn.

Both Mammoths and Calves are skinnable, and in the 10 minutes that I decided to record I got 140 Borean Leather, maybe a single Arctic Fur and some greens.

Note:

Do not pull/ kill the mini-bosses to either side or you can not reset the instance.
Pull and skin in two batches as pulling them in one group leads to NPCs despawning before you complete them all.
Very easy for high level character. Just enter mounted (if not a tank spec use the Comfortable Rider's Barding as mount gear to avoid being dazed etc.) then pull the left side NPCs, kill and skin. Then repeat for the right side and exit. Reset and repeat.
Takes 3-4 minutes per clear/ 30-40 minutes total, with AoE ability and Worgen or using consumable to reduce skinning time (no enchants worth for this older content).
Sufficient Borean Leather to make approximately 85 x Heavy Borean Leather
Arctic Fur drop rate is low so can vary a lot.

I farmed 80 borean leather in 15 minutes as a level 37 on the rhinos just south of Amber Ledge in borean tundra. Only the bulls are in red so it is an easy kill. There is a guy riding around on one that's more difficult so watch out for him

If you want to farm a pet at the same time, I suggest killing Gundrak Raptors around Gundrak. Sure it's a lot slower than the Oculus in terms of leather per hour but that battle pet will go for a pretty penny while getting 1-3 leather per kill.
If respawns are short, you can pop into the dungeon and kill the 6 snake packs and run out.
