It should be noted that, although this CAN be looted by anyone in the raid with the quest, it is my understanding that the quest itself is a followup to https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=13375, which itself starts from https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=44577 - a quest item dropping off Sapphiron in Naxxramas (Heroic), which only one person per raid can loot.

This Quest item CANT be looted by anyone, however the drop from sapphiron can. As long as you got the quest item from sapphiron several ppl can loot the heart of magic.

This is exactly as any other quest item that drops, Head of Onyxia/nefarian etc, except that this time you just dont turn it in, you accept the quest, turn it in at Krasus at the top of Wyrmrest Temple, he will then ask you to confront Malygos and from Alexztrasa's Gift after defeating Malygos in either 10 man or 25 man depending on which Sapphiron quest item you've looted you can then loot the Heart of Magic.

Completing this quest yields 1000 reputation with the Wyrmrest Accord.

Another important factor is that whoever loots the quest item from Sapphiron will have to be the one pulling Malygos all the time :)

Edit: About the pulling: Ofcourse by pulling i didnt mean getting agro etc:P i meant that you have to press the object to engage, loads of time for hunters / rogues to misdirect to the tank when he engages :)

The quest item to start the Malygos encounter does just that. Starts the encounter making Malygos attackable. After its started there is enough time for a Hunter to misdirect to your main tank. Therefore its more important for someone who is consistently going to be on to get the Sapphiron quest item then someone who can "pull" the boss.

Don't die during the encounter or you will not be able to loot the quest drop. Or at least I couldn't. GM will also not award the quest item if you could not loot it.

So, just to clarify -- is it true that only someone who has received the Heroic Key to the Eye of Eternity from Sapphiron will be able to complete this quest and receive the purple epic quest rewards?

If winning the roll on the key means also winning one of the best neck pieces in the game, it complicates the choice of who "should" get it a little? :)

Does anyone know if this quest can be repeated for a 2nd necklace? and i mean by looting a 2nd Iris from Sapphiron.

Should be noted that as of Patch 3.0.8, the quest item now spawns in a seperate blue heart-shaped chest, located alongside the "loot" chest. This is to solve the problem whereby if the first to loot the chest was not on the quest, they "destroyed" the item for the rest of the raid.

Only someone on the quest can interract with the heart-chest, and there will be as many as there are people on the quest. Much better all around.

verified, if you die in the encounter, you get no loot from the heart. happened to me in 10 man. have a ticket open which is still in there after 4 days of waiting.

edit: Took 8 days but the quest item was send via mail. As long as you bother to make a ticket, you should be ok.

This is indeed bugged. In consecutive weeks the same thing happened to a guildmate and myself. Died on phase 3 and couldn't loot the heart. Both of us had to put in tickets, speak to GMs, have it escalated to a specialist, who then mailed us the
quest item.

So if you die, and your guild downs Malygos at midnight - don't expect to be able to get your incredible neck piece until around 4AM.

Ok I'm at work reading this and a little tired atm, so I'm still a little confused. After reading some of the above comments, I'm not clear on one subject. I just recieved the 10 man key to EoE the other day. With that key, will I still be able to choose from the same neck pieces that a 25 man would after finishing the quest, or do I need to get the 25 man key to EoE?

Anyone know if it's possible to exchange the neck pieces? I think i looked at the reward given and i don't remember seeing an exchange quest anywhere.

For redbig, you need to get the heroic key from 25 man sapph then do heroic EoE to get the 25 man neck. Since you have the 10 man version of the quest you can only choose from the slightly lesser necks that are ilevel 213 equiv.

For herro, I don't think you can trade the necks in, but it would be nice with dual specs coming out, kinda tough choice whether i get neck for my paladins tanking set from 25 man and 10 man version for ret, or vice versa.

I died (on a drake) and waited until the rest of the raid killed Malygos, then waited some more while Alextrasza spawned and gave her speech. I then ran back and was able to loot this item without difficulty.

A GM confirmed after 3 days waiting for the quest item after killing Malygos about a month ago that if you die and release before the chests are spawned you cannot loot them, this is the misconception about whether it is bugged or not.

I just got the heroic key,
is it possible to have the heoric quest and loot the heart of magic on normal mode?
As very few people bother doing maly 25 anymore ;p

Just wanted to confirm that, as of 11/14/22, you DO NOT have to have the Iris in order to receive and complete the quest. You can trade the item, click it to get the quest, then pass it back to the original owner.

Just keep in mind that doing this will not grant you the Key to EoE, as the Iris is the key, doing this only grants the quest and the quest reward.

Note that it's not possible to kill the Boss, then directly accept this quest, go back to the instance and loot the blue hearth.
You will see the blue hearth and it will sparkle, but you won't be able to interact with the hearth.

Heroic Judgment at the Eye of Eternity

Krasus atop Wyrmrest Temple in the Dragonblight wants you to return with the Heart of Magic.

This quest can be completed in both 10-person and 25-person versions of The Eye of Eternity.

Description

Now that you have access to the focusing iris it's time to put that key to use.

As much as I would like to see Malygos brought back into the fold, that's just not going to happen at this point. With everything that's at stake, it is the judgment of the other Dragon Aspects that the Spell-Weaver needs to be put down.

<Krasus says this last with a great deal of trepidation.>
