Captain Falric and Captain Marwyn were two of Arthas' most trusted men during the Third War. When Arthas decided to strike at Mal'ganis, Falric and Marwyn were amongst the soldiers following him to Northrend.

After Arthas had obtained Frostmourne, and claimed victory against Mal'Ganis, he massacared his soldiers, and made Falric and Marwyn two of the first Death Knights of the Scourge to serve him.

They are apparently still faithful to him, and will be the two first bosses you encounter in the Halls of Reflection.

The fear is pretty heavy damage, but is easily healed through after it fades. There is no group damage other than that.

The hopelessness continues to stack, to a maximum of 75% (heroic, maybe less in normal), which makes keeping the entire group up after a fear difficult towards the end of the fight. I'm not sure if it is timer based, or % based, but either way, make sure you have good DPS to get him down before everyone dies. :p

If you wipe on the boss, you have to kill the 4 waves of trash before him again.

To restart the encounter after a wipe, you need to step onto the circle in the center of the room.

After fighting him a couple times, I'm almost positive that tremor totem doesn't work. Sad.

Edit: 100%, tremor does not work; however, the effect can be fully resisted (extremely rare, only had it happen once).

Healers: Undergeared DPS are going to make this a nightmare for you. If you're looking at recount and seeing low DPS, it's a good idea to ask people to pop damage reduction cooldowns right before fear when the stacks of hopelessness are getting high. Divine Sac + bubble, barkskin, Icebound Fort, etc. are all good options and they will make your life a lot easier when you're trying to deal with a 75% healing reduction.

Tanks: The side rooms in the circle make excellent line of sight to keep the casters and hunters on you. Utilize them, especially if your healer is struggling. Have the DPS and healer stuff themselves into one of the corners while you pick up the adds that try to agro on them and you. This will leave a lot less chaos once the boss hits. If you see that the DPS is on the low side, save your cooldowns for those fears when the stacks of hopelessness are getting high. It will take a lot of stress off your healer so they can focus on keeping themselves and the DPS alive.

DPS: Do everyone else a favor and don't expect to be carried. if you're pulling less than 3k DPS, you probably should be gearing up, not trying the hardest heroic in the game.

it's 25% reduced healing and damage per stack on heroic. Warrior tank reported that he could not break it with berserker rage, but I found that it was possible to AMS it on my death knight.

This is a wave fight like VH or CoS. 10 waves 2 bosses. First boss 'Falric' after wave 5 with a small break after boss before the waves start again. Then 'Marwyn' after wave 10.

The waves have a mix of casters and melee. We pulled them back near the door (Note: do not go too far back at the start because a door closes locking you in the circular room).

Traditional AoE tanking methods for the undead waves before Falric (and Marwyn) won't work because

there are almost always two ranged attackers, and
many groups won't have undead-appropriate crowd control.

Normally as a tank I'd handle such pulls using line of sight to force all enemies into melee range so I can tank them, but there isn't anywhere in the round room or the straight hallway where line of sight is broken. Or is there?

Solution: Have everyone hide in the east niche (there are two tiny spaces, about one person's size), behind Marwyn, then trigger the event. As long as everyone stays hidden, each wave will come to the party. Once the wave is there the party can spread out a little bit (it's hard to see enemies when everyone, friend and foe, is clumped up on top of everyone else); just make sure to hide once each wave is completely dead.

After the fourth wave, Falric will come; since the party is in the east niche you'll have a few seconds to prepare for him. Once he's dead, switch to the west niche for the next four waves and Marwyn.

You can hide on the side of a boss to break LoS on the waves ;) makes it alot easier :P

If you wipe after Falric is dead you will not have to start all over again.
Upon reentry and restarting of the encounter you will start at wave 6/10.

To avoid fear run, place yourself on top of the urn/goblet/chalice/pedestal. It's somehow keeps you from running around, but you're still technically feared.

The key to surviving this encounter is making good use of breaks between the waves and bosses. Finishing each wave will take you out of combat for a few seconds which if your dps and healer take advantage of, they can steal a quick 8 seconds or so of drinking/eating before they need to start fighting the next wave. Alternatively, if they are extremely low on mana/health, they can continue drinking/eating as long as the tank keeps the mobs away from them. Finally, between the waves and their respective boss you will get approximately 20 seconds before the boss engages, which is a critically important time to regen.

On a seperate note, cleansing is extremely important here to ensuring the survivability of of your group. If you do not have a shaman it is paramount to down the rogue-type adds before any others or your dps and health will suffer greatly. There simply is not enough time for the healer* to manually cleanse four stacks of poison from two targets while keeping everyone alive

* for most healers, I suspect extremely well-geared, efficient healers could manage it

A handy thing I found in running it in the last few days is that if you set up in the alcove where Captain Marwyn spawn for the first five waves you can los pull the mobs to you helps the tank pick up everything quicker and avoid unnecesary hits on your casters/healer.

After Falric goes down the group moves to his now empty alcove and repeats the process for the next five waves.

... when we did it, it seemed stupidly easier than standing in the middle.

Falric. the place where Death Knights shine.
If you use Anti-Magic Shell you become immune to Hopelessness for as long as your shell lasts, so use it at about 10% when heals and DPS are becoming rather weak to give a 5 second burst of DPS on him to make him go down faster.

Found this little trick out by accident.

Is it just me, or are the drop rates just ridiculously stupid for this wing? I mean 30% for two pieces and 9%(thus far) for boots, what happened to an even shot at everything?

I've seen the wrist chopper and soul splinter drop every single time barring one instance where the chest dropped.

I think the drop rates need to be rethought for this wing, giving such titanic priority means it will just be a repeat of ToC, with every person clamoring for Marrowstrike or the tanking trinket and never seeing it, thus coming to hate the instance.

I've been running the normal version about 10 times a day for a week for the ghoulslicer and it still has yet to drop. So far, I've seen every other item he's supposed to drop multiple times while the sword supposedly has the highest drop rate.

Talk about bad luck.

Curiously nobody mentioned a little bit more lore on both of them from "Arthas: Rise of the Lich King" book:

Lothar, Khadgar, and a few more of the Stormwind Refugees were riding toward Capital City (Lordaeron).
Arthas was standing with Falric, commander of Marwyn, on the castle ramparts while waiting for them to arrive. ill quote from my book:
"...Arthas was standing up on the castle's ramparts, keeping Falric, one of the guards, company and handing him a steaming hot mug of tea. ..."
"...Falric smiled gratefully and bowed deeply in genuine respect..."
"Arthas: Any sign of them?"
"Falric: Nay, Your Highness, It could be today, tommorow, or the day after..."
"Arthas blinked. he slowly lifted his chin from his hands and narrowed his eyes. 'They're coming!' he cried, pointing. Falric was at his side immediately, the mug forgotten. He nodded."
"Sharp eyes, Prince Arthas! Marwyn!" he called, Another soldier snapped to attention. "Go tell the king that Lothar and Varian are on their way...."

This may have been writted by Christie Golden AFTER the instance, or for another reason, But I hope this amused anyone. Sorry for my crappy writing :D

This NPC can be found in Halls of Reflection .

The whole fight is made of an arena-style event. There are 10 total waves, in the 5th Falric will challenge the party.

Debuffs must be dispelled very quick to minimize party downtime and damage taken.

Abilities

Hopelessness - Reduces all damage and healing done by players by 20%. Used at 66%, 33%, and 10%.

Impending Despair - Causes Despair Stricken, stunning the target for 6 seconds, if not removed after 6 seconds. Magic effect.

Defiling Horror - Inflicts 2,500 Shadow damage every 1 second for 4 seconds, and sends all players fleeing in horror. Falric will not attack while the Horror lasts.

Quivering Strike - Inflicts 60% normal melee damage and reduces the target's chance to dodge by 20% for 5 seconds. The dodge reduction component is a magic effect.

Hopelessness - Reduces all damage and healing done by players by 25%. Used at 66%, 33%, and 10%.

Impending Despair - Causes Despair Stricken, stunning the target for 6 seconds, if not removed after 6 seconds. Magic effect.

- Inflicts 4,000 Shadow damage every 1 second for 4 seconds, and sends all players fleeing in horror. Falric will not attack while the Horror lasts.
