this conversation appears to foreshadow the coming of night elf mages in catacalysm, "The time may soon come when the kaldorei require the knowledge and skill we have to offer." the knowledge and skill he refers to is arcane magic, which the kaldorei have abandoned after the war of the ancients.

This means that Cataclysm is getting close seeing as 3.2.2 added him so 3.3 might be our last big patch.

ok, im probably wrong but, isnt he the mage that was in Naxx b4 they re-made it for WotLK (Naxx 40man lvl 60)

This guy is probably one of my favourite NPC's so far.

I do not believe admiration and wistful thoughts are against the societal norm. You were the one who challenged me for merely looking.

He really showed up that sentinel. He shows a lot of patience and integrity. I can't wait to roll my night elf (but I'll pretend to be a highborne. Closeted RP'er) mage.

I thought that highbourne looked like high elves. I heard somewhere that night elves that practice arcane magic would turn light pink, permanently.

Great, more reason for male NE to use their god awful casting animation. Never really saw the directed one much since the only classes that use it are priests and druids, and DK's if you count instant casts. And even then, those classes don't spend much time casting directed spell casts... But that's pretty much all a mage does. *Shudders* They should really consider redoing the male NE directed casting animation before going through with this.

during the time of the war of the ancients there was a night elf called dath'remar sunstrider, who had pale skin and red hair, there's a statue of him on sunstrider isle in eversong woods, clearly the high elves/blood elves are decended from him and other night elf highborne. i think he's probably the one who took water from the well of eternity and made the sun well

The return of the Highborne this could also serve to explain the new Night Elf hostilities towards "impure" races in Cat. (the highborn in the war of the ancients wanted to cleanse Kalimdor) As well as bring Night Elf mages forward.

There is nothing in the Lore that implies that NIght Elves are nocturnal. They don't really call themselves Night Elves, but rather, Kaldorei, which means "Children of the Stars." They only accepted calling themselves Night Elves well after the time after the War of the Ancients.

Trying to keep the amount of spoilers low...

A funny thing about night elves is that they actually called themselves exactly that - if you read the War of the Ancients trilogy - even as they were the only type of elves to exist. Yes, even before the appearance of some "time travelers" from a time when there were also high and blood elves, who would at least have a reason to make a distinction.

A philosopher at that time might have said,
"Why do we need to categorize ourselves,
When there are no other types of elves?"

It's like we would start calling ourselves day humans.

Not that any of the speculation as to where the majority, if not all exiled Highborne have been hanging out all this time matters.

It's called Eldre'Thalas, AKA Dire Maul. You know, the Shen'dralar Leapstryke mentioned earlier.
I'm sure most of you remember the library, where we would turn in the "book quests" back in pre BC.

The elves that went across the sea of course do not count, since they changed through their use of the Sunwell they created.

Before they went across the sea, there is really no reason to believe they did not look alike. They most likely looked like our pals in Dire Maul, in other words, like Night Elves.

All that aside, I'm really excited about playing a NE Mage. XD

p.s. Mordent straight up tells you he comes from Eldre'Thalas in the quest info.

Well, nothing to do with NE Mages, but supposedly, if you read some of the books in the game, the Naga and Trolls are mutated Night Elves after thousands of years...this is to the person who wanted more info. :-) Supposedly, some Night Elves were trapped within a sleep of some sort in the water and the Trolls are suppose to have crawled out of the water at some point between when they were trapped and today.

I can only currently recall the location of a couple of the books, they would be in Booty Bay, I can't remember the map location, and if I get it, I'll repost. Unfortunately, I don't remember the location of the book about the Trolls, or if it's in the same location.

There are also minor quests throughout the game (low level Dwarf Quests in Azuremyst Isle and in IronForge) that talk about the past between Night Elves and Elven Mage Magic. If there are other quests, I am unaware of them.

I own all the books and I'm anxious to read up on them myself and thank all the people who have jolted my curiousity further! :-D
