Vaelastrasz is a really hard boss since you have to nuke down his HP (which is higher than Ragnaros) in three minutes. A buff giving you unlimited Energy, Rage and Mana will help you.

Fire resistance is a must in this fight since Vaelastrasz will be using a fire-based AoE doing ~600 fire damage every three seconds. Tanks must have at least 300 since apart from the aoe they get a flame breath doing 3-3.5k. The rest of the raid is ok with 150+. Fire Resistance Pots are not as helpful here as in raggy.

It's a guild-killer boss since it's common for guild to be unable to kill him which sometimes makes guilds tear up.

Tanks for Vael:

Go for 250FR. Have 7.5K HP. His stacking flame breath and fire based spike damage breath are the tank killers. Use your shield wall when you get burning. Make sure it's understood who the next tank is. MTT will still show you as the tank. If you're next up to tank, heroic strike occasionally. No more than 1 every 5 seconds. This helps ensure you'll be next.

Tank control is crucial.

Mages should seriously consider speccing into 5/5 IAM for this fight if your guild is having trouble garnering the DPS necessary to down him before healing fails.

5/5 AM aint really needed, if you renew it often it wont matter much due to unlimited mana, make them use the points in less chance to resist on arcane spells, simply cause newly guilds on this guy got fairly low +hit from gear

Vaelstraz's debuff, much like Gheddons bomb debuff in Molten Core, blows the guy who gets it, up. He will suffer death and also aoe in a 20 yard radius, to damage his team for about 4500 damage. Also when you get his debuff if you do, your casts become instant so spam like a CooCoo Clown ^_^

I love this battle because its a PERFECT example of how every class relys on each other. This battle requires little mistake and is pretty harsh if one is made. Classes are required to be in a certain position while engaged.

Lets say The Throne is the North:

Tank should be attacking by the throne so that Vael is facing it.

Other Wariors should be be to the west out of the way of DIRECT fire, hacking away and waiting for transition.

Rogues: should be in the opposite position as the Warriors (across from warriors) stabbing to their hearts content. When Agro is drawn from Rogues, Vael turns to them (AND HE WILL) they should Vanish so to avoid being flamed and being attacked. Note: When Vael is breathing fire towards the Rogues it will also flame the Casters that will be far east up against the wall. The quicker the Rogues Vanish the less deaths will happen. If done correctly Vael will turn back to the warriors.

Hunters/Mages/Locks/Druids/Pallys/Preists: Should be back towards the wall and spread out so to minimize damage taken as a whole. Shooting,Nuking and healing is all they need to do. It is important that the casters stay alive long enough in case they get BA for a chance to do some super DAMAGE. BA on a Lock or Mage is a very good thing because they will do a great ammount of damage in a mater of seconds.

I'm gonna go on a whim here and say Warriors are probally the most important class in this paticular battle. It requires practicaly error free Transitioning between the warriors when the Tank is about to die. If the warriors die too quickly then...Well...All hell breaks loose.

Also, when you are BA'ed, run to the designated Death zone so you don't blow up your comrades!

This is an amazingly fun fight, IF you can do it. If not, its definitly a gear check. If you have killed Razorgore, you are 3/4 of the way there. My only advice, and thats all it is, is to have a full, and balanced raid. When he does BA (Burning Adrenaline), it will randomly target 1 party member with mana. This causes their damage to go WAYY up, but they will die quickly. Every third BA will go to the one on the top of the agro list (your Tank). Healers should keep him healed, but at the same time let him die before he would blow up.

You will likely need 3-4 tanks for Vael, but more dosent hurt. Keep them from dying prematurley, and he will go down.

Edit: 2.0.1 The Warlock pet Felguards can be affected by BA. if warlocks are paying attention and dismiss their pets when they get it, it can easily save a member of your raid.

edit: In version 2.0, the Felguards CAN be hit by BA. If the warlocks are on top of it, they can dismiss the pet before it goes up, saving one member of your raid from a feiry death. very helpful

Everyone says this is a 3 minute fight, but that is only about 80% true. After the debuff (Essence of the Red) is gone, it is still possible to kill him, just more difficult since there is no rapid rage/energy/mana regeneration. In reality, you have about 3:45 to do it.

This is about what my guild does on time:
First 8 seconds:
Main tank goes in at 1 and start counting. Off-tanks will go at 2-4. Healing should start ~3. At 8 all DPS will begin.
By the time the first tank gets BA, Vaelstraz should be at 22%. 23 is ok, less is better. At 20% he is vulnerable to execute, so warriors go nuts.
At 2 minutes left on the buff, Vael should be around 18-20%.
At 1 minute left, he should be ~ 10-12%.
Hopefully he was dead when the buff runs out, but if not keep going. The last percent is the hardest.

One final note: this is the one boss which is easiest to wipe on for the voctorious guilds, only because BA is random. If all your key healers die to the first few BA's, its game over.

General Info
Vaelastraz the corrup is the 2nd boss in Blackwing Lair right after Razorgore the Untamed. Before the fight, Vaelastraz is sound asleep and everyone can roam freely in the room. The fight is started by talking to him. After a brief cut-scene the fight begins. Vaelastraz will now stay awake for exactly 60 minutes before he dies and despawns for 12 hours. While he is awake it is no longer possible to roam freely. Vael will attack anyone within 20 yds of his "middle". Since he's huge and ranged cant be made out accurately, as a general rule the raid should stay outside the inner "courtyard marked by the columns.

Abilities

Everyone in the room will receive this buff when the fight starts:

Essence of Rend
Restores 500 mana per second.
Restores 50 energy per second.
Generates 20 rage per second.
3 minutes remaining

Random ranged members of the raid as well as Vael's main target will get:

Burning Adrenaline
Damage done increased by 100%.
Attack speed increased by 100%.
Reduces max. health by 5% every second. --> down to 18% after 20 sec.
Deals 4375 to 5625 damge to nearby allies upon death.
20 seconds remaining.

Fire breath:
AoE fire that hits everyone in an approximately 90

Frontal damage/MTs
We need to work something out to prevent Vael's fre breath from killing the dps (just like onyxia)... now if they MT could be kept alive this would be no problem. However we have to feed up to 6 tanks to Vael before he dies.

The whole idea here is to make it impossible for vael to face the DPS by placing the 6 most hated chars (warriors) into strategic positions that direct his flame breath away from the DPS if a Tank dies and another one has to take over

Vael has 3 limited AoE and 1 Aura type damage abilities. The damage zones are shown in the picture above. Note that he has a blind angle just over his rear legs.

Pulling Vael is done by one warrior that runs through him from the wall opposite the throne. By that he turns him and makes sure he doesnt move. 5 seconds afer initial aggro the offtanks move in and fight for aggro. 10 seconds after initial aggro all dps begins.

Positions during the battle are as shown above with raid entirely in the blind angle. All tanks are on one side. When Vael is at 20% Warriors activate Recklessness and Execute for maximum damage. At 10% all Rogues and Hunters stop DPS for 10 seconds. Rogues use feint and vanish whenever available. If it is resisted they stop all backstabs until they can cast a successful feint again. Hunters have to be carefull with dps after a good aimed shot crit. Feign death whenever available is mandatory.

If a ranged char gets BA, he will immediately run away from his allies to one of the green zones (around the columns). Once he arrives there and is still alive he resumes DPS which is greatly increased. If possible he stays clear of Vaels Flame breath and within 40yd of a priest, but never at the expense of safety for the raid.

When the current Main Tank gets burning adrenaline he stays in position. The offtanks get ready to get aggro and immediately turn vael back to the tank positions. During the transition vael must not move. So it is important for tanks to always stay within melee range of vael. Occationally on the transition healers might get a tailwipe and a short gap in the MT healing occurs. To bridge that we have 2 priests flashhealing the MT.

Note: An observation in regard to Vaels flame breath was, that he only does it when his target is stationary. So should you ever see yourself targetted by Vael, start to strafe right away in order to turn Vael away from your allies.

Healing
Everyone takes damage, so the best solution is Prayer of Healing, which means 8 priests, one fore each group. If less than 8 are available, use druids with chaining renew+regrowth on all of their partymembers. But the easiers setup is 8 priests.

Then setup 2 druids or 2 more priests + 1 Paladin to chain heals exclusively on the current Tank so that at all time he has 1x PoH, 1x HL and 2x HT incoming on him. All priests who PoH, will also occationaly send a Flash Heal to the MT.

Buffs
5 Warriors will be dedicated tanks and buffed as usual. The surplus tanks will get BoS and join rogues for DPS. All other DPS will get BoS too as well as all healers. Rogues do not get Blessing of Might (to limit their DPS and crits so tanks can keep up) --> Essence of rend buffs damage, but not taunt/sunder armor.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, and I know this boss fight is rarely done anymore. HOWEVER, I have done it a few times with one of my previous guilds back when 60 was the level cap and I can tell you it's definitely a gear and raid coordination check.

The biggest problems we had as a guild coming out of MC were:

1. Didn't have enough DPS to take Vael down fast enough.

2. Our MTs kept dying too quickly even after we got the positioning down and could transition well between them.

3. Our priests and healers kept getting hit with BA too fast and we'd lose the tanks and/or DPS too fast.

Number three seemed like a case of bad luck, and sometimes there was nothing we could do about it except wipe and try again. The first one got better as we got more gear from MC, but number two was our biggest problem. After some investigating we found out why...tanks need to have huge FR numbers to take Vael's fire breath attacks, but that was the problem. The FR gear they were wearing was cutting into their other stats, since FR gear at the time really only offered Stamina and FR and little else. We also found out this was a problem with our DPS since they needed FR for Vael's fire nova.

After about two weeks of trying we came across a rather nice 'workaround' for this problem...FR buffs from the first spellcasters you encounter in Blackrock Spire. I forget their exact names, but we would have ten people go into the start of BRS and get two or three of them MC'd by our priests. Then, we would funnel the rest of the raid in and have the spellcasters cast an FR buff that gave a whopping 90 FR and it lasted for one hour! This allowed our DPS and tanks to wear more of their MC gear, which translated into more damage, HP, and threat generation.

We also found that using Power Word: Shield on the MT at the start of the Vael fight and having the tanks use Flask of the Titans (I think that was it) significantly reduced the chances of Vael screwing the tanks over with unlucky burst damage. It was a bit costly at the time, but finally beating a very tough boss and getting great gear and progressing further into BWL...that is worth any amount of gold spent.

So yeah, I know Vael isn't fought too much anymore, but if you ever choose to fight him with 40 level 60s, then I hope these few tips help you out.

Be careful trying him at 70 with a small group. Because of the speed at which he puts up the bomb, if you go in with 10-20 people, they will die to the bomb extremely quickly.

The Vael fight was definately fun and was sure a big adrenaline rush (hehe). The story behind him is that he has vowed to hunt Nerfarian until death. But during his hunt, Vealastrasz was injured and corrupted. When the raid enters the room, he is near full corruption but the sane part of his mind sees that your raid of heroes may have what is needed to finally kill Nefarian. He then uses the last of his good power to give your raid the Blessing of Alextrasza-Essence of the Red and corruption finally takes him over therefore making him Vaelastrasz the Corrupt. The fight is extremely fast and there is no room for mistakes. I'm not sure how easy it is to do this at lvl 80. The fight lasts for 3 minutes. This is because the Essence of the Red only last for 3 minutes and is needed to kill this boss since his HP is ridiculously high.

Has anyone tried this strategy:
when you're hit by adrenaline rush, immediately unequip all your weapons. This lowers your max hp by about 5-10% (alternatively, you can start the fight without any weapons). Make sure you have means to survive aoe from boss, say priests' bubble or even a potion of limited invulnerability. When there's only few seconds left on your debuff, equip your weapons back on. This will increase your max hp by a static amount about 1.5k. After the debuff wears off, you should still have those hitpoints and will still be alive (theoretically)...

Another thing to try is warrior's last stand / pvp trinket which increases max health temporarily.

3manned this with 1 prot paladin (me) and 2 rogues (1 mutilate, 1 combat) as soon as i (tank) got the burning adrenaline, i popped wings and got tricks to max my own DPS (a whopping 2400 ish) to about 11% ish, where i died and the rogues took turns evasion tanking it (the mutilate rogue took the adrenaline buff)

it died with the combat rogue standing and me and the muti rogue dead. tight fight but doable like that with those classes.

oh, and 2 shaman belts! wtf is with that : (

We managed to 4-man Vael yesterday. The setup was:

DK Blood (me)
Frost Mage
DK Blood Tank
Holy Pally (healer)

Pally did insignificant damage, Tank approx. 130k, I did 580k and Mage approx. 300k because he got BA first. He respecced to Arcane today and with stacking debuff he is confident he will be critting for 40k when he gets it next week. Will try it out and let all of you know how it goes.

Vael is for sure the hardest fight, took us 3 tries to kill him, a lot depends on RNG. Later we did all the bosses (minus Ebonroc and Flamegore) with no problem.

Every time I read strategy on this boss, it says he has 3 mil hp. But I've killed him several times, and all of the times hes had 999k. What's going on?

vael starts the fight at 30% HP (or something near that), so his actual health is around 3 mil but you only have to do 1 mil damage to him, like Murmur in shadow lab.

Successfully 2-manned this as level 80 Combat Rogue and Protection Warrior in early patch 3.3.

What we did is:
The tank used a few fire resistance items (179 FR)
Using Drums of the Wild and Drums of Forgotten Kings.

Rogue pulls, uses evasion first thing and starts tanking until first flame breath. Use Cloak of Shadows to resist it (should be fully resisted with the resistance provided from Drums of the Wild).

Next thing Warrior takes over aggro, around this time, shatter should be up. If the Warrior has difficulties taking over aggro, use a vanish. After this it's pretty much a dps-race. Use every damaging cooldown you possibly can (including Potion of Speed). Damage reduction cooldowns when applicable. I must say it was a close call in the gear we had (between 3000 and 3100 GS according to wow-heroes.com) but we managed. Prot Warrior had around 4-4.5k dps, rogue about 9k dps.

Had some Elixirs scraping around that we used, namely the 50 crit, also had some 30 crit well fed food that we used.

Also noteable is that the Warrior was a Draenei so Gift of Naaru came in to play (on himself).

Edit: Might also add: Everything up to Chromag is 2-mannable without heals in this setup (provided you have the Onyxia Scale Cloak). We made about 450 (pure) gold on bosses and trash, and got a couple of elementium ores.

How can you not love a boss that can go from "We got this!" to all 40 people dead in about 1 second because a random rogue or mage spiked in DPS? Thus...Destroyer of Guilds.

Did this the other day as enhn shammy and feral druid.

Shammy (me) took agro first and tanked him till I got burning Adre...I died, druid B-rezzd me. I got burning adrenaline again and obviously died in about 20 sec...then ahnk'd. At this point the druid got adrenaline....I popped a couple heals on him and myself. Then I got burning adrenaline again....I was spamming lightening bolts and right when I died I sent 1 more bolt at vael. I died...then the LB killed vael....as close as you can get to failing...w/o failing.

Since he starts off as a friendly unit prior to engaging, has anyone tried using Hysteria?
I had previously thought that Blizzard would have automatically made all bosses immune to the spell, but then I read this comment that some stupid DK cast it on Valithria Dreamwalker.

However, I'd imagine that Blizzard did think about this for a bit and that Vael is immune, but I'd love to hear a tested answer anyways =)

Well I Bad English But I Try Help Ppls Who Playing Pre-Tbc <3 :3 Yeah Its Rly Hard Boss But Its Easy To Kill. Tips. How To:
1) Whole Raid Must Stay In Near Each Other So 2-3 Priests Can Aoe Heal With Spell Looks Like Arcane Explosion. And Its Very Very To Kill. :3
When We Not Used That Tact We Get Wiped Rly Fast.:)

Yeah, This mob will kill most guilds in about 3 seconds on their first try. Thats 40 ppl in 3 seconds. Not exaggerating.

He starts off with Curse of the Red which gives all the casters (practically) unlimited mana for the duration of the fight. It also dumps rage onto the warriors at a high rate.

He has an AoE, a tail swipe, a huge breath cone and Burning Adrenaline debuff. Combined, he can use these powers to pretty much wipe the floor with everyones ass in a very short period of time.

The burning adrenaline will give you instacast spells and unlimited health/mana for 10 seconds, after which you explode, instantly killing everyone in a 10ft radius of you.

Oh, and not to mention. Once you start the encounter you only have 1hrs worth of attempts to kill him before he despawns for 24 hours.

I can't discuss tactics for obvious reasons but massive FR is required for success and also lots of practice. Most players will only see this guy in screenshots. Hes designed for the creme of the WoW community and from reading the above posts, that dosn't include many people here.

You think this guy is possible with ten level 70s? We were having an argument and I highly doubt it can be done with 10 people. Because of the way he casts BA, he'd have to be killed within a minute, and that's if you're lucky. I dunno..anyone ever try it?

VtC is a much funner fight then the stupidity of the Razorgore encounter, and I applaud them for their design on the red dragon. However, I also would want to take a tire iron to their skulls for the Razor event. Go figure.

I feel sad for vael. Every week when the MT talks to him, Im rooting for him and hoping he will be able to resist the corruption of Nef. Each week, I cry a little when he is unable to and we have to kill him for his lewt. *sniffle*

No but seriously, the first 2 BA's are on random *mana* users (a rogue or warrior will never get this BA) and then the third BA is on whoever is highest on his aggro list. That pattern repeats itself.

maybe its late to clear things up about the BA and stuff:

He got two aggro tables, one for mana users and one for no-mana users, he BA strikes the #1 on each aggro list one after another. then u know that if u want for example mages to die before priests u don't give BoS to them, simple

if u have done the fight u should notice he strikes one mana, then one melee, and same rotation again and again...

it allso makes sence that blizzard wanna make it hard by killing the most healing guy and the MT all the time.

(tho i'm not 100% sure that mana aggro table is random or not but my opinion is still the same)

this guy was fun as heck, last night me paladin and 2 rouges and a warrior killed him after 50 mins, we only attacked him so we could return to town and restock not thinking we would win >.> was a funny thing to see when we finaly got him.

and for those thinking impossible i was on a private server but lvls were only lvl 60 65 70 70 so i still think it was good work.

Only been in BWL once, and that was by accident *Did the BWL Attunement quest in UBRS and had no idea what it was doing* Second I saw Blackwing Lair pop up on my screen I sloooooowly backed away.

Dissapointing though. Can't wait to fight this guy, even though I've heard he's a guild breaker.

*Guild breaker as in people get so frustrated with him that it actually creates arguments/fights which splits up guilds* When I heard of this, I lolrofled my copter.

One of the three hardest bosses in BWL
Everyone else has posted my guild's strategy, but one thing to know. Whatever you do, keep Vael from turning on your party. The minute the tank loses aggro, your party is in a world of flaming hurt. That's how you lose ths fight: Your party gets the crap flamed out of them. Keep good transitions for the tanks, When they get burning adrenaline, have your next tank ready to go on the aggro meter. KTM raid threat helps here. Don't worry tanks new to this fight, your suppose to die! Thank Blizzard for making a boss to make you pay nice repair bills. Don't worry! His gold oughta pay for your repairs assuming you down him.
Once you get the transition strategy down, and down Vael, you'll be able to do it every time!
Don't worry about fighting a boss harder than this until Chromaggus, then of course, Neffy.
One more thing, if tanks go down out of order, unless you have a lot of extras, your probably done. The minute the last tank goes down, within 5 seconds so does the rest of the party.
Difficulty: 8/10

I have a friend (Breann, lvl 60 Paladin on Kel'thuzad) who soloed Vael after his guild wiped at 3%. Vael is definately a hard fight, no arguments there, but if a person can solo him at 3%, it means one or both of two things: Vael's 3% is more like 1%, or the guy who soloed him has no life. Anyway, my guild recently downed Vael for the first time (me and my friend are NOT in the same guild), and we could not be happier. Good luck to all, cause as my guildies say, "He's a %^&*!."

the sheer fact that this boss drops Helm of Endless Rage simply sheds light on the fact that this fight is a warrior field day. Executes for 66% of the fight with seemingly endless rage (I out dps'd the entire raid and did 15% of total damage with the closest competition coming from a rogue who did 9%). Very nice warrior helm in my book (lionheart possibly out doing it for sheer dps capability), but then again i don't have to deal with pally's.

1) How much FR?
I'm wondering how much FR is acceptable for the Vael fight since I'm pretty much taking 400 dmg from the fire nova (or whatever it is). I'm on 87 FR atm.

2) AOE Heals?
Should priests use prayer once in a while to negate the fire nova dmg?

And for the record, Vael is 100x harder than Ragnaros. If you think Ragnaros is hard, then you're nowhere near downing Vael at all.

Prayer of Healing? NEVER use prayer of healing on Vael, if you are on this fight your priests will be good enough to keep the raid up without using that. If priests use Prayer of Healing on Vael it will cause then to get move way up the agro list and get BA, which is the opposite of what you want.

We got him to 1% 2 times in a row last night and would've killed him if the last trasition at 4% went smoother.He's definately a very hard boss to learn but you'll feel very satified with yourself once you down him.

my guild dreamworks redux did blackwing today , got about 20/30 eggs down and just couldnt handle the zerg of elites ,this is after the patch. Wiped about 3 times and called it a night

To the guy that said it has the lowest drop rate don't be ignorant....it's as much as any other class, but since only horde have it (since they are the only ones possessing SHAMAN) the drop rate is shown lower because of alliance....

The drop rate is either the same or higher.

We just beat Razorgore for the second time, and a flawless victory too. (no deaths at all!) So we were pumped and raring to go for this guy. Tank transition is the really hard part of this fight. It MUST go smoothly or it's all over.

Now, I've heard two ways of going about this.

What's worked best so far is when the main tank is burning, the next one THEN starts spamming hate to catch up. (we got him down to 15% using this)

The "staggered hate" method where all the warriors begin spamming hate in turn sounds more logical but it was getting us nowhere.

What tanking method is used by most of you?

That doesn't work. That method has been attempted by numerous guilds. The problem is, Vael's damage output is so massive, that if you go slow, he will burn through too many people with BA and his flame breath. The problem is, if not enough dps is kept on Vael throughout the encounter, he will BA healers, and if your healers go down too fast, then obviously you won't be able to keep the MT up, and Vael will turn on your dps and annihilate them.

This encounter was designed to be beaten in three minutes or less.

Oh, btw, Galadin. The energy regeneration from his buff is 50 per second, not 20.

Did u know that on realm Argrammar guild Novus Inceptum took him down last week. That is not too odd, but odd thing is the way they did it. They took him down to 1% and he killed them all BUT one paladin. Paladin named Helassity came to him,used divine protection,hit him with hammer of wrath and all spells he had. It seems that dragon had 1k health left so he died:)He eventualy died of flames but... Now they all call him Helasity The Dragonslayer. HAHAHAHAHAHA

You get the buff when you enter and gets the 500mana/20rage/20energi per sec

There is 3 faces in the burning addrenalin,

after 15 sec after fight is started biggest agro user with mana gets the debuff and will lose 5% of his max heahlt and will no matter what blow up in 20 sec
after 30sec the mana user with the biggest agro gets the burning Addrenalin

after 45 sec the one with most agro gets the BA which hopefully is your MT so you need a new tank after that

then it begins from the top again and 45 sec after a new tank gets the debuff

We just killed him tonight for the first time. He is harder then Ragnaros. The next logical step. Think of a ragnaros that move around and breath on people and loose aggro on the main tank very often to run rampant.

As a druid I paired my 2 HoT spells (Rejuvenation and Regrowth) and both buffed by restoration talents and gear.

Rejuvenation is useful to counter-act the aura while I heal someone else in the group. When burning, run to his back and smack instant healing touch on tanks and paladins

He dropped Bloodfang, Dragonstalker and Rune of Metamorphosis, boo (worthlessness)

is ur raid dosent mind wipes if i remember right BA make it so u go at incredible power what i do is keep wasting vael till like 10 sec left then u must have a speed pot switch aggro and use the pot run to the corner and blow up the damage u do with BA is insaine at lv 60 at 70 u could one hit most things but that what i do and the other OTs do and the extra DPS rly helps in the long run

I haven't done this event, and can't post on the WoW forums because my account has expired, but, reading the threads about burning adrenaline on the raid and dungeons forum, I think I have a pretty good idea of what causes it. (remember, no experience with it though.)

I'm thinking that the main tank gets BA'd whenever he loses aggro for a moment, people have testified that it seems to go to the second person on the hate list. So, once the tank loses aggro for even a split second, that seems to trigger it to go on him, and then all hell breaks loose unless another warrior grabs firm aggro before the tanks died, but then hate is gonna shift around again and someone else is gonna get flamed.

I think the key to this fight is to not go insane with dps once you have the ability to- while BA'd or with that other buff. Because spamming slam/aimed shot/shadowburn/backstab/frostbolt any of that, the tank's gonnna have trouble holding aggro, and if he loses it, see above. The problem here is the tank's ability to hold aggro doesn't double, while the rest of the raid's ability to do damage does. The solution? Slow down, make an effort to not substantially increase your dps.

He 2 shot 3 tanks. 3! This guy is one of the hardest mobs in the game, I would say he ranks 6th. We had to kill him the same way we killed lethon

Get him to half health
Call in the rogues
Keep him stunned

Got some nice loot though.

After several victories against Vael, I was finally given Burning Adrenaline and got to instant cast Frostbolts until I died. It was beautiful. Best way for a caster to die.

Omg.. this sucks. My guild has had BWL on farm status for MONTHS now and only 1 netherwind belt has ever dropped...
we have 4 mages with full netherwind minus the belt

and priests should be spamming prayer of healing so they don't get the lowest on aggro list so they get BA

If youre having trouble with Vael and you're a priest here's how i do it:

(optional) get yourself the mod 'autobuff' and set it to do Shield to yourself (this helps speed up casting slightly)

target tank with aggro and do the following - FH, FH, FH, PoH repeat until dragon dies

thats pretty much it. u may have to chuck in an extra PoH every now and again but if the rest of the raid does their job properly its pretty straightforward

As you have probably read on the World of warcraft forums, The zone is insanely easy at the moment. Without lag, 4 attempts at boss 1 and 4 attempts at boss 2 before kills.

1. BA is not random, it targets the highest agro mana users every 45 seconds just like it does tanks.

Essence of the Red: This debuff is cast on the raid at the beginning of the encounter and lasts for three minutes. Restores 500 Mana per second to mana users. Restores 50 Energy per second to Rogues and Cat Form Druids. Generates 20 Rage per second for Warriors and Bear Form Druids. It essentially means players have infinite mana/rage/energy for the fight.

Fire Nova: Inflicts 555-645 Fire damage to nearby enemies. Fire resistance is a must in order for healers to keep the raid alive.

Flame Breath: Inflicts 3,500 to 4,500 Fire damage to enemies in a cone in front of the caster. Must be directed away from the raid by the main tank (MT). Every Flame Breath applies a stacking debuff (also called Flame Breath) that ticks for 1,000 fire damage every few seconds. It's maximum level, which is always reached by the time the MT is burning, ticks for 4,600 damage. This debuff plays a huge role.

Cleave: Cleave attack that hits for 2,000. This is a chain cleave, so if positioning is poor it can chain to the entire raid, even to behind him.

Burning Adrenaline: Damage done increased by 100%. Attack speed increased by 100%. Spells become instant cast. Reduces max health by 5% every second; eventually causes player to die. Vaelastrasz only casts Burning Adrenaline in two scenarios: He will cast it on random mana users throughout the fight and he will cast it on the current tank every 45 seconds. When the MT is afflicted, healers must be ready to transition to the next tank while keeping the old one up at the same time until the debuff kills him. Thus, the fight requires four tanks in a threat-building queue. When mana-using raid members are afflicted, they must move away to a designated area or bomb the raid with a 4,376 to 5,624 AoE blast. Non mana users will not be afflicted unless they are currently tanking Vaelastrasz.

Tail Sweep: Knocks back players standing too close to his tail.
